    (Update) After a year and a half the ford style socket fell apart just like the old one. I switched to the GM style Dorman #85830 socket and it is working much better.
    I am sick and tired of having nonfunctional blinkers so I think it's about high time I finally fix them. The problem started one night when the left front blinker decided it wasn't getting paid enough and decided to jump ship. The left turn light was stuck on the dash when the headlights were on even though the actual turn signals were still off. When you flick the turn stalk to the left, it also didn't blink but rather just stayed on. I found out later that my socket shorted out so I needed a new one.
    The driver side front blinker started acting up when the previous owners splice job started coming undone. That just needed to be connected a little better.

    I have had issues with the sockets going bad in almost every XJ I have owned or worked on. Mostly the rears for some reason. Thanks for the vid. I think mine is actually the fuses. But i won't know for sure till I replace them. Thanks again.

    Haven't tried that yet! it's just weird that all my electrical problems, i.e., alternator and turn signals all surfaced after I changed waterpump and radiator and replaced bad thermally controlled fan. After that all this. I check your lead and see. Thanks

    Ive seen cars with a wrong type of bulb pushed into the indicators and cause all sorts of madness, some people just dont look at things correctly :-/
    I fixed my mates peugeot 307 hdi diesel indicator problem last week, the front indicator bulbs sit in little plastic top hats with bits of tin making the contact, well supposed to make contact, i drilled two small holes in the back and soldered wires in, it wont play up again lol :-)

  • @TheAmericanUhate

    Hey NickInTimeFilms Do you remember what part number that socket was? I'm having the same issues with mine, on the same corner as well. Also having the blower/blower resistor problems and electric fan problems too lol. I got tired of messing with the fan so I put it on a toggle switch on the dash and it stopped over heating now. Waiting on parts for the blower stuff. About to go buy the parking light socket. Thanks too!

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheAmericanUhate I'm not happy with the one I used in this video. It broke the same way the old one did after a year. The new one I used is much better: Dorman part number 85830. It is a tighter fit and the connections are much better.
      The Electric Fan is fun because there are a few system to check but it looks like you have that covered. The relay and coolant temp switch are the first things to check. My Radiator was full of gunk so the temp switch never got hot enough to turn on. A good flush, new relay and socket, and everything is good again.

      +NickInTimeFilms Thanks for the reply and information too. My XJ sit up for 12 years and I've spent the last few months trying to get it all back together and running. It's a lot of work but I enjoy working on it and making progress for sure. Had my front right brake lock up on me today while test driving lol, is an easy fix for that though. Thanks again!

    What exhaust are you running?

  • @MovieMakerZT
    @MovieMakerZT 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's my situation on my 89... it has upgraded headlights since I bought it. Whenever headlights are turned on, the right blinker indicator on the gauge cluster stays solid. When I engage the right turn signal, the light on the dash blinks as normal. However, the front turn signal is very dim and appears to be the running light blinking. With the headlights off, it works fine. Everything is synced when I turn the flashers on. So, it looks like possibly it could just be the socket. I mentioned upgraded headlights because I thought maybe it was possible the previous owner did some weird wiring job. I hope it's the socket.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, that was what my issue was. The dash blinker staying solid is a tell-tale sign of the blinker socket shorting out or whatever goes wrong with it.

    • @MovieMakerZT
      @MovieMakerZT 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sweet. Gonna try to replace today. Another thing with mine is I can't turn on just my running lights. The first click of the headlight switch turns everything on, second click as well. Previous owner must've screwed up wiring. I don't even know where to start looking. Any ideas?

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a little odd. I don't think the sockets would be able to do that but i'd replace it first and see what changes. Possibly a burnt out headlight switch as they sometimes burn out or melt.

    • @MovieMakerZT
      @MovieMakerZT 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, replaced the socket just now and it fixed the turn signal issue! Praise the lord! It looks like they may have spliced into the sidemarker wire when wiring the headlights. I can only presume that is the issue I'm having, causing the lights to turn on with the running lights.

    • @NickInTimeFilms
      @NickInTimeFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would make a lot of sense, especially now that you have the relay harness the wire hasn't burnt up by now

    • @NickInTimeFilms

      Are they not blinking? You'll need load resistors for that. Or check and see if they blink with the 4ways on. If so then replace the blinker flasher with a 4way flasher
