STAR WARS TRILOGY ARCADE - COMPLETE PLAYTHROUGH

  • I posted this video to bring all of you, a little bit of joy and nostalgia, during this sad era of boring and downright bad Star Wars movie sequels, mediocre video games, and TV shows, (except the Mandalorian of course which is good but not great...not yet but it tries hard), in order to help us remember that there was a time not too long ago, when developers took good care of our iconic movie franchise. They threw everything that was great about it, into their video games. It also shows that, what still works even today, is that this game portrays and lets you play through all the iconic scenes from the old trilogy. Its still a short but fun and thrilling roller coaster ride from beginning to end. This is still one of my favorite arcade of all time to this day, along with Star wars Atari 1983. Sadly this game was never ported to any console or PC. So the only way to play this today is through emulation. So here it is enjoy ! - Star wars trilogy arcade almost perfectly emulated on supermodel3 version r614 (with some minor sound issues unfortunately). Again this is an «almost» perfect playthrough of the game, on easy with twin triggers enabled, running with the new3dengine = 1 option manually entered in the .ini file, so you now see the Endor moon in space on the death star II level at the end. Enjoy !

They had this as an arcade game on the cross channel ferried between Dover and Calais where I used to work back in the late 90s. We used to work 15 days of a month at sea and it turned out that if you could prove you were out of the country a couple more times a month, then you could claim all your income tax back at the end of the tax year. So I'd take a day trip to Calais twice a month (on top of my working days), buy a chocolate bar in the port and keep the receipt. And on the journey back and forth, I played this arcade game. Constantly. (didn't need to see the rest of the ship as I worked on it!) I remember that it cost £1 per life and I ended up being able to complete it, after lots and lots of practice, in £2. Still the best Star Wars game imo.

This game was legendary, one of the best arcade games of all time, as a young Star Wars obsessed kid this was my favorite booth to see in an arcade. Kids would gather around to watch each other play. I remember how hard it was to target with that spring-loaded joystick constantly pulling itself away from where you wanted it. But not frustrating, just incredibly fun and the perfect blend of difficulty. Wonder how many tokens I donated to this machine over the years...

It's probably my nostalgia talking but this is probably one of the best arcade games to come out and one of the best Star Wars games as well. The actual cabinets came in a variety of sizes and builds but the best version was always the one where you sat on a cockpit seat with loud speakers, a huge CRT monitor and joysticks with vibration and locking mechanisms. It really made the whole experience immersive. All the sound effects during the on rails sections and the lightsaber mini games actually making your joystick feel like you're deflecting blaster bolts or locking lightsabers with Darth Vader (16:56 the part where you have to block Vader's downward slash in particular felt really good to block.)--it truly is a blast to play and I insist if anyone manages to come across the arcade cabinet to play it. I spent who knows how much money or hours playing this arcade game in my youth and even now I still haven't had my fill.

Wow, its funny...I had a SNES, but starting with PS1, I generally had Sony consoles, while my friends had Nintendos--point being, I never owned a Wii, but I played it a bunch. After the initial thrill of playing "Wii Sports", it seemed like they mostly used the motion as a gimmick, or to prop up very minimalist, simple, boring games, and I remember thinking the whole thing had been a mistake and they should've just focused on making a new 'regular controller' console. What I never considered, though, is that they could've used what they'd built to either adapt for home console, OR commission sequels etc to the countless classic arcade games out there--"Star Wars Arcade" just being one among countless greats. I mean, "House of the Dead Wii", anybody? Shit. Wasted opportunity.

I remember playing the trench run in Rogue Squadron back in the day and it was nothing like how it was, even compared to this. You flew down the trench, but then you had to make 90 degree turns every so often, which defeats the whole purpose of the trench running the equator, then the guns never stopped shooting... and it was just a mess. At least this got the right idea.
Also, the Hoth run: "That armor's too strong for blasters!" *blows up the AT-AT cockpits anyway*

It has been YEARS since I used to play this in the arcades. I had this game (Jedi) mastered to where I could complete the game on 1 credit, following a strict pattern where I knew exactly which enemies would appear and where, giving me the ability to pop off a perfect kill shot or deliver the uninterrupted series of multiple shots that gave the bonus (indicated by the x1/x2/x3/x4/etc) for a near-perfect 100% shooting accuracy. I even managed to get perfect sync in waiting to ignite my lightsaber with Vader's when he ignited his (the duel level).
I took out almost every foot soldier, enemy fighter, tower turret cannon, Star Destroyer generator/cannon, AT-AT & AT-ST walker, Wampa, etc. My strict pattern would not allow for even one missed target (wherever possible - some targets were too many and required too many shots before exiting the screen) - otherwise, if I missed any "easy hits", the remainder of the game would be a wash for me (accurate shots would fail to be very accurate). Failure was not an option. ;-)
It was like I was in perfect harmony with the Force or something, lol.
I miss that game so much. It is great seeing it again!
I hope one day to PLAY it again, and see how accurate I still am after 20+ years in "retirement"!!

Used to love playing this game when I was younger back in a mall about an hour away from me. Along with this, they also had the Episode 1 Racer game in the arcade. Over the years though, the Episode 1 Racer game machine apparently broke, so it sat there for a few years, unused (I think it might still be there, I dunno. Haven't been to the mall, much less the arcade, in a while). I remember sitting in the chair of this game and being blown away by the gameplay and the sounds, god this game was so loud. I'd usually make it a point to play this game at least once every time I went to that mall.
Eventually, they put the machine away, which sucked. It wasn't until the night Episode 7 came out that they brought the arcade machine back out, placing it in the movie theatre's arcade instead of the actual arcade (yeah, the mall had two arcade's for same reason, you could basically just walk to the other one within ten seconds. Dunno who's idea it was to place two so close together). The joystick was a little broken, and they removed the chair so you had to play it standing up, but I had a complete blast playing it while my family and I waited for the movie's showing time.

Very fun indeed, but calling it "best SW game" is rather exaggeration. There are many many examples of really great and groundbreaking games: "Jedi Knight" series, "Knights of the Old Republic", "Shadows of the Empire"... In terms of flying there is nothing better than attacking ground targets and dogfighting in "Rogue Squadron" trilogy and "X-Wing Alliance" 👍
