Oh how well I remember the "no mate sock basket" and the nagging reminder that I had no mates for these socks! Late in the game I dealt with this basket and learned that it was ok to throw them away. The freedom from that basket is real! I still need to deal with other piles and you have encouraged me this morning to deal with those other nagging reminders!

I grew up in a messy house also so I can totally relate to you!!! And til this day I have a hard time keeping it clean and decluttered. My house currently is messier than yours, only because I have more stuff that needs to be donated and purged. I do the same thing with my laundry so I totally understand where you're coming from. I have been wanting to get my FlyLady routines done since our son was born in 2003. I have been fluttering ever since. However, just a few days ago I began my decluttering journey as well and am filming it to share too. I've been watching MyGreatChallenge with Sophia and she's so inspiring. Just wanted to put a comment to say thank you for your videos. Your simple breakdowns of the routines and strategies has helped me modify my mornings and evenings into bite size micro habits, so I can support my wife as she returns to school this semester. She’s still a bit worried that I will lose steam, but I really want to be better for her. She’s tolerating my reminder sticky notes everywhere. (I set up systems and then promptly forget them. Sticky notes are required.)
So, I just found you yesterday in a more recent video, and your house was so clean and organized that I was a little annoyed at you for calling yourself a slob. I decided to start at the beginning and watch all your videos, and now I get it!!! Your house looked like my house. LOL. My house never looked like this. I also grew up in a very messy house, so the 1st 30 years of my marriage I went the opposite way and had houses that looked like they came out of a magazine. Now, for the last 10 years, I have a home based business full of inventory I sell. It’s terrible. Disorganized. Cluttered. I know I have to get a handle on it. It makes life more stressful. I hope your videos help me! By the way. You are super cute and have a lovely personality!
You are not alone. I've been trying to keep a clean house for decades. I'm generally a mediocre housekeeper but there have been times in my life where it got out of control and then I had to work like a dog to put it to rights or if companies coming I shine the place from top to bottom. Now I'm just trying to get it sorted, get rid of unnecessary clutter, have it comfortably clean and keep it that way and I've been finding these fly lady channels. I've been following Diane from Denmark with the babysteps and I'm excited about the prospect of getting it under control and keeping it that way, once and for all!
I understand what you are going through, I started Flylady about 4 or 5 mths ago and Follow Diane in Denmark, she is absolutely the greatest as she is happy and inspiring. I didn't jump into the Flylady program right away, I started one room at a time, and decluttered a bit, and got cardboard boxes for separating things as I didn't want to spend money on storage that I will not need down the road. I am not done with decluttering yet, but honestly, the housework IS EASIER with less clutter. I don't have small children anymore, but what I do have is adult children clutter. My 2 kids have been married and divorce and they downsized and what they couldn't take with them, Guess who got stuck storing their stuff Yup you got it ME. So right now after living in one house for 30 yrs I am decluttering MY stuff, then will tackle getting them to get rid of theirs. It is so nice to get up to a tidy house, and it does start off the day with a better point of view. Please go on the Diane site and you will get inspired. Good luck and you WILL GET IT DONE but don't try to do it all at once. Regards
Thank you! It has been quit the year since i made this video, I will update you asap on how far I have come. I am just finishing a massive decluttering and it makes all the difference! I watch Diane all the time too, my mom showed me her last winter when i was just so lost in my messiness, she is so lovely. Glad things are going well for you. I did the 40-day challenge recently, and am going to try and declutter 1 thing every day. My big issue is a workshop full of tools etc, that my late husband had, so bit by bit I will get it done. However soon the garden will be a priority especially since I have huge gardens. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing! It is good to know that I am not alone on this journey. I grew up in a messy home too and I swing from cleaning like crazy to letting everything drop. So, I truly resonate with the term "Secret Slob". I freeze whenever the doorbell rings and I hate unannounced visitors! I found the Flylady System 6 months ago but I became overzealous with cleaning and ended up crashing and burning to ashes. I tried the Konmari method 2 years ago... got things done but was exhausted at the end. So much for Joy! Decluttering and cleaning is one thing but maintaining the results was another matter altogether.. so everything lasted for a few weeks and chaos returned slowly but surely. I know that if I take baby steps one day at a time, I will slowly see progress. I am looking forward to re-starting the Flylady Method with you!! I have the added issue of not particularly liking perfection but literally preferring a mess. How's that for crazy? My mom was a perfectionist & I rebelled against it But I'm getting old, semi-retired growing old and we need a nice clean environment to be old in so I'm doing it and it's going pretty good. Hmmm.. Definitely easier if you have less stuff, so decluttering.. And then just getting in the habit of putting it away. I am still training myself to do this as well!
I can relate. I have been trying to get organized my whole life. I have tried so many different systems. I start out good fir about be a week b and then I don't follow through. I was doing ok until my husband passed away in 2016. I didn't realize it but he was my accountability buddy. Now I'm on my own and so overwhelmed. I have ADHD and I need to get myself organized. The biggest problem is house cleaning. I hate it and I avoid it as much as I can. I do ok with laundry and dishes and the other stuff gets done when I feel like it. I too grew up in a messy, tiny house filled with clutter. When a person walked into our front door they came directly into the kitchen and from that kitchen door, you could see my parents BED. There was no door from the kitchen into their bedroom, because to get to my brother and my bedroom, or the bathroom... you had to walk into my parents bedroom! Talk about your "open floor plan"! LOL I shared a bedroom with my brother until I reached 7th grade and he was in 8th. Then my folks took the sofa out of our living room and replaced it with my brother's twin bed, and yes, you could see his bed also from the front door in the kitchen. But... if I had this house in this video, it would NEVER look like this! My brother and I were ashamed to let any friends in our house, let alone see the outside, and because we lived out on a little farm, it only happened twice.... when we each turned 13 my mom gave us a surprise birthday party and had invited our friends over.... horror of horrors! (It was sweet of her and we did have fun, but I always wondered after, what my friends thought of our house?) When I married and moved out, I wasn't the cleanest wife either, but I was 18. However, when we bought our first NEW furniture 3 years later and got a living room set, a table and chairs and a waterbed... all brand new, things changed, .....I think I polished that living room set daily for the first year and a half. I began making my bed.... to this day, my parents have had 3 NEW pieces of furniture in their entire lives, and they just celebrated their 63rd anniversary, and my husband and I bought the last piece of furniture which was a lift-chair for my dad. The other two were both recliners that wore out eventually. The kitchen table that sat in our tiny kitchen when my brother and I were pre-schoolers.... still sits in my parents tiny apartment today. My mom has never had a dishwasher in her life. What I am saying is that it shocks me that this beautiful house gets to this point and I can't imagine why? I think this gal in this video is super sweet and kind, no question about that, but my goodness!!!
I think most would think.... you have such a beautiful house... how would you allow it to become so messy? I always wonder what those who are living in a rental that don't have nice things, would be motived by in order to clean their houses? If when it is clean... it doesn't look like the fancy homes featured in videos like these? Not trying to knock your cleaning video, just wondering because I plan to teach a class at our local CPC, to clients, on how to start a cleaning routine. I had a client several years ago who had just had her kids removed from her home due to a dirty house, because she claimed that a former friend, who had got mad at her, turned her in to get revenge. She had another "friend" who came in with her for support who said she had then called SS on this other former friend, and turned her in for the very same thing! -- It IS a THING! Anyway, I have been browsing these videos to see if I can come up with an easy routine to help my clients in this area. But I keep thinking.... look at the homes of these persons, and should I choose to bring up a video for them to watch, would my clients tell me "Well look at these persons FANCY homes... if I had a house like theirs when I was done cleaning, it might be worth it?"
I still miss your videos so much that I decided to watch all of them all over again. While working on keeping my life put together.

I have the added issue of not particularly liking perfection but literally preferring a mess. How's that for crazy? My mom was a perfectionist & I rebelled against it But I'm getting old, semi-retired growing old and we need a nice clean environment to be old in so I'm doing it and it's going pretty good. I tweak flylady for my disabilities and it's working for me.

Mine is always a mess!!! We never put anything away!!! Do you have any tips on how to put stuff away better? For me and the while family!!! Hahah! It's a daily battle here!!
Hmmm.. Definitely easier if you have less stuff, so decluttering.. And then just getting in the habit of putting it away. I am still training myself to do this as well!

I can relate. I have been trying to get organized my whole life. I have tried so many different systems. I start out good fir about be a week b and then I don't follow through. I was doing ok until my husband passed away in 2016. I didn't realize it but he was my accountability buddy. Now I'm on my own and so overwhelmed. I have ADHD and I need to get myself organized. The biggest problem is house cleaning. I hate it and I avoid it as much as I can. I do ok with laundry and dishes and the other stuff gets done when I feel like it. I too grew up in a messy, tiny house filled with clutter. When a person walked into our front door they came directly into the kitchen and from that kitchen door, you could see my parents BED. There was no door from the kitchen into their bedroom, because to get to my brother and my bedroom, or the bathroom... you had to walk into my parents bedroom! Talk about your "open floor plan"! LOL
I shared a bedroom with my brother until I reached 7th grade and he was in 8th. Then my folks took the sofa out of our living room and replaced it with my brother's twin bed, and yes, you could see his bed also from the front door in the kitchen.
But... if I had this house in this video, it would NEVER look like this!
My brother and I were ashamed to let any friends in our house, let alone see the outside, and because we lived out on a little farm, it only happened twice.... when we each turned 13 my mom gave us a surprise birthday party and had invited our friends over.... horror of horrors! (It was sweet of her and we did have fun, but I always wondered after, what my friends thought of our house?)
When I married and moved out, I wasn't the cleanest wife either, but I was 18. However, when we bought our first NEW furniture 3 years later and got a living room set, a table and chairs and a waterbed... all brand new, things changed, .....I think I polished that living room set daily for the first year and a half. I began making my bed.... to this day, my parents have had 3 NEW pieces of furniture in their entire lives, and they just celebrated their 63rd anniversary, and my husband and I bought the last piece of furniture which was a lift-chair for my dad. The other two were both recliners that wore out eventually. The kitchen table that sat in our tiny kitchen when my brother and I were pre-schoolers.... still sits in my parents tiny apartment today. My mom has never had a dishwasher in her life.
What I am saying is that it shocks me that this beautiful house gets to this point and I can't imagine why?
I think this gal in this video is super sweet and kind, no question about that, but my goodness!!!

I think most would think.... you have such a beautiful house... how would you allow it to become so messy? I always wonder what those who are living in a rental that don't have nice things, would be motived by in order to clean their houses? If when it is clean... it doesn't look like the fancy homes featured in videos like these?
Not trying to knock your cleaning video, just wondering because I plan to teach a class at our local CPC, to clients, on how to start a cleaning routine.
I had a client several years ago who had just had her kids removed from her home due to a dirty house, because she claimed that a former friend, who had got mad at her, turned her in to get revenge. She had another "friend" who came in with her for support who said she had then called SS on this other former friend, and turned her in for the very same thing! -- It IS a THING!
Anyway, I have been browsing these videos to see if I can come up with an easy routine to help my clients in this area. But I keep thinking.... look at the homes of these persons, and should I choose to bring up a video for them to watch, would my clients tell me "Well look at these persons FANCY homes... if I had a house like theirs when I was done cleaning, it might be worth it?"
