There is a great section on different wood and what to use for what kind of job and a similar section for tools as well. The projects in it are things you probably would have a go at with clear instructions, pictures, videos and diagrams throughout. Great for a beginner/amateur wood worker.

Another plus of building yourself is to overcome the big snafu of a refrigerator that doesn't do the job; buying the up to date refrigerator first and then fitting the kitchen around it works best!
Try buying a new refrigerator for a space around which an old refrigerator was built. We did and spent a whole vacation day going to all the big retailers until we found an angel at Home Depot who was willing to search online with us until we found 2.
Refrigerator design and dimensions seem to be something that changes.
The amount of work and the finished product is super impressive. Be very proud!

Most people don't know what to do with this kind of design, so they just gut it. The kitchen looks fabulous. Much better than a lot of what I have seen on You Tube. Keep up the good work!

It makes me so happy that you didn't just trash the kitchen and put all new cabinets in and that you made the hutch into a kitchen cabinet. It really bugs me when people on HGTV shows smash all of the cabinets and bathrooms to add drama instead of mindfully rehabbing and reusing things that are already in the house.

I was a cosmetologist for over 40 years and although I loved my clients, I wish I could have worked in wood. Could have built furniture and remodeled rooms myself when I needed it done. The kitchen and the living room beams are my favorite! Not a fan of the foam rocks and electric fireplace but that's a personal preference. Can't wait to see the bathroom renos.

If I may give you one small piece of advice: Invest in an affordable mic setup, record a single voice-over track for the entire video, and process it to do justice to your lovely voice. It’ll enhance your videos big time.

Crazy transformation! Love that unique feel you made the kitchen. All I will mention is the front two legs closest to you, on the stove, you can turn the legs on the stove clockwise and it will level the front of the stove/oven with your cement counter top ;)

What a journey!! I am incredibly impressed by how much you achieved, and couldn't imagine myself accomplishing a fraction of that. The most amazing part for me was when you recycled and thought of a way to refurbish the cabinets. Not only is it cost effective, but it preserves the history of the original cabinet in that it continues to exist in the house post-renovation, but the cherry on top is its also a statement piece, by you, the designer. I absolutely had to comment on that. Saving what you can in always going to be a plus in my book!

Wow, that was an amazing job you tackled solo in that kitchen. Very impressed with all the changes you made as well as how much you were able to conserve and repurpose. It’s got a great look and vibe now. What about a chandelier over the breakfast nook? The Tiffany style one they left in the living room (they were popular in the 70’s) would actually look really cute there, add a touch of the original vintage to the more modern reno you did. The color would match too.
Exterior, I could see a pediment with two columns at the front entrance, good for when it rains and adds depth.

We bought a neglected lake home in northern Minnesota in October. We have been anxiously awaiting for the permafrost to melt so we can get electricity and deep well installed. Starting renovations in late May. We know it will be a lot of work but cannot wait to be in the woods working!! Great job!!!

Ok, I was disappointed when you painted the entire house grey, but I'm so glad you painted the door a vibrant color. It looked so nice with just that one pop of color.
The living room and kitchen both look amazing. I hope that fridge holds up. There's also a nice space above the fireplace in the living room for a big TV. Something that I notice with these kinds of renovation videos is that style is prioritized over practicality, and the living rooms end up not being set up for living room activities, like watching movies. It's good to see you probably thought that part through.
