I used to work at a good will like most jobs the people were great at a store level but policies placed at a corporate level are very out of touch. While working there I could tell when someone at a market level saw a big thrifting video or ticktock because we’d get guide books on what to look for. The worst part was that if they thought would were “purposely” placing high value “online items” on to the floor they could discipline you for profit theft. It was a joke I never enforced it. The worst part is that the people evaluating items online weren’t educated on value at all. I was a lead for my location making $17/hr and while I was there we had a 200% profit, but I couldn’t get a small raise.
You would think the amount of "good" games and merch being given to goodwill would decrease now that its popularity has risen so much. The fact that good will gets so many good gaming items, to then seperate and sell at a premium, is only the fault of the original person who gave it to them for free. If goodwill uses the majority of the proceeds towards charity, versus paying staff and business expenses, I think it's fine. If 90% of the funds go towards staff and running a booth and online presence etc, it's stupid. The days of finding gaming treasure at goodwill for $1 are over. I'm ok with that so long as goodwill is doing what it originally set out to do.
This has been a “policy” in my area in the south for years. Even before the pandemic there were zero video games unless a PS2 slipped into the DVD’s by accident from experience. I asked an employee and they showed me the poster of all the items they have to look for and put to the side. This was probably 2018-19. Tragic, lol.
Goodwills inflate prices in their city/suburb stores while small town locations maintain low prices. They've had to close stores in order to raise those prices and restrict the flow of FREE product they receive. they'll continue closing stores as we've seen them integrate the impulse-purchase method in order to maintain their monthly budget mentality. Although, i'll occasionally find great stuff >_
Yeah most goodwill are no longer carrying video games in store and just selling them online. Which kinda sucks as they will sell them at market or sometimes above market value instead of a flat 3-4 dollars like it used to be. Plus that Celeste is the retail version
The problem is all those TH-cam videos from people going in and showing how much they would be flipping them for, so honestly you can’t blame them for wanting a piece of that pie.
Every time I go to Goodwill there are tons new cars in the parking lot and people inside with carts full of stuff. They're clearly not shopping for themselves. They are mostly resellers.
Goodwill stores are on ebay selling goods at market or above price for stuff that's usually average condition or worse. This is a non-profit donation store so everything they intake is donated and they don't pay taxes.
We need to get that Stardew Valley box set! Also there actually WAS a car that had a record player in it! For like three years (I wanna say late 50s I think) Chrysler had a record player as an add-on option for like three of their models…..wild.
Hey Guys. I'm not an avid viewer of your channel (I'm not a gamer), but I have seen a few videos. I first subscribed when Dallas told me to a couple years ago. Now I run into you (virtually) at Retro Ricks con. I can easily see that your videos have improved quite alot since I first subscribed. You're doing a great job. Keep it up!
A bunch of Repro games all at market values is insane.... I think i saw them at Socal as well and they were doing the same thing! Shame... people who dont know are gonna get hurt! Great video as always! Miss you guys!
To be honest, it does suck that Goodwill is selling anything game related online nowadays. I did win a couple of auctions for their online website, and one of them included some very notable, high dollar PS1 JRPG games. Other than going after lots on their website, you will be paying above market value for games. The items in the $40 mystery bag were great! Celeste for the Switch is a $35-$40 game, so it is well worth it!
I stoped donating to Goodwill years ago when I found out that they take DONATED items and put them online to get top dollar. Back in the day you donated stuff you don’t want/need for others without a lot of $ can get things they need/want for cheap.. now it’s a lot of junk. I now only donate to Lighthouse and Salvation Army… really disappointed in Goodwill.
Goodwill a company that is given their merchandise for free , pay their top executives millions of dollars, and yet pay their workers below minimum wage, specially the "special needs" workers that they boast about giving work too but take advantage of. The company is now price gouging on items it gets for free, but was once a place where low income families could pick up items it wouldnt normally get at a reduced price.
This is just more of the same with Goodwill. They started sending most of their donations that were collectible to their online auction site years ago. In fact I bought an Atari 800 computer from them 6-8 years back.
Celeste is a great example of why physical media is not dying. Another example is Allan Wake 2. Celeste was originally a Limited Run Game. The only way to buy it physical was to have made a preorder in the tiny window of time. However. Now Fangamer sells copies of the game, and anyone can buy it physical. Why would a smaller dev even bother, since digital is supposedly king, and anyone who wants a physical copy can hunt down a LRG copie? Because Celeste must have seen a value in somehow partnering with Fan Gamer and releasing physical copies via mass production. Then there's Alan Wake 2. A game the devil said they weren't going to do a physical copy for. Then the digital sales weren't doing as well as they thought. Guess what gets announced, a physical copy long after the games release. Why would a bigger studio even bother? Especially since digital trumps all these days. Imo physical has made either a huge resurgence, thanks to collecting, or it's never gone away like everyone who says digital is king would like use to believe.
Why is it that retro games seem to be so scarce at this cons you’d think there would be more of it. Also prices at this cons can be a little scary sometimes. Looks like I might want to check goodwills website a bit more sucks they do bidding I don’t really like that much. I also still prefer so much more to buy in person online shopping is just not as fun and not only becuase I can’t record it lol but is just not the same I can’t touch it and smell. Also I would have to rely on them being diligent enough to take good and enough pictures. that mystery box was well worth it pretty cool!
Great video. Kind of odd goodwill being at a Con but they are a business so why not. I think we all kinda feel a way about paying market value for anything from goodwill right? 🤷🏿♂️oh and pizza tower is Soooo good!
Btw i asked my Goodwill why they dont carry as nany ganes and i was told most video game stuff is plucked from donations vecause they usually are worth more and then sent to auction sites. Honestly this makes me mad and proves that good will is greedier
Did your silent Hill 2 vinyl have the red & black swirl or the silver color? I have the silver colored one and I guess that's the rare one to have. It randomly came up to my door step without me ordering a copy. Til I found out that a friend got it for me 😂😂😂 but I love it and I play it every day
I am in huge support of Goodwill auctioning off their video games. Those games were about to be thrown away and neglected by people who don’t care about video games, but instead Goodwill makes it possible for games to get back in the hands of people who will appreciate them. And yeah, they get them for free, but no one is being forced to bid for their auctioned off items. People are willingly spending money on their online items so I don’t see anything wrong with it.
Can someone explain to me why the people at the donation centers or stores even care about what they put out? I have never heard of anyone being paid well at a goodwill and never heard of benefits being even good. Why do the people working at the stores care enough to look for "quality" items and send them to the online store? If they got some kind of bonus I would understand it but to get just slightly over minimum wage in whatever state to make sure you're corporate overlords make the maximum profit is bewildering to me.
I think one small factor to this, and this is by no means an insult, but goodwill employs many people on the spectrum, autistic or Asperger's type individuals. statistically people on the spectrum actually show very high levels of trustworthiness, very rule following type behavior and very little deception and can sometimes be very particular about being Precisely trustworthy.
@@andrewanderson4555It wouldn't bother me if they actually got bonuses for finding the gold in the garbage. They could very easily offer bonuses to employees based off of the revenue generated from the good sent in by that store.
We included links to our products in the video description, but the gist is: Gopros and Rode Wireless mics while hunting Sony ZV-e10 and Rode Boom Mic at home
So long short after covid and the games boom goodwill was bought up and a new sector was created for profit non donation based sort of speak. This covers anything nostalgic retro of large profit margin. In gaming you have goodwill computer store the nerd block and goodwill retro. These are all for profit stores like a mom and mom game store. Just fueled by donations of the charity sector slightly abusing loopholes. They are then later sold on goodwill auction online which is just a daisy chain for all stores to use but generally only the private sector sees the profits or money vs traditional stores. You also have good will brown stores which is where all the nice fancy clothes shoes and other items go to be sold at reseller or close to retail used stores. Sadly here in NM we only have the high end clothing stores an auction house and a bulk buy pallet store branch of goodwill which some require a paid member ship to be a part of. This may vary region to region.
It bugs me, does Goodwill get that many games to even push this initiative? Also something that bugs me more is when I think of Goodwill I always saw it as this store to help those less fortunate who cant afford brand new items. So they get all there inventory for free, so its all 100% profit, but now they are stepping into major retail competition, how does that make sense? What does that mean for just the average person is it even fair then to call it "Goodwill"?
Hate to say it, but smart on GW's end so long as those funds are helping the community. The good ol days of hunting GW have been over, now it's only good for hunting clothing.

I'm surprised it took goodwill this long to do it!
those glassy plastic red cups are so nostalgic. I need some now lol
Goodwill selling at Cons is interesting to me….all that Fan Gamer stuff looks so awesome!
