Absolutely love the pawn shops for buying video games, when I was in middle school I would take my little money and buy almost new game for next to nothing. Also get the best deal, don't settle for low-ball prices that's nonsense the game if brought new weren't cheap.
After seeing these makes me realize how little you can get for older games. They don't even try to be competitive when they know some games are worth more than others but yet they see them at the same price when buying.
Because everyone wants to make maximum profit. The person trying to sell the game. The person who bought the game to resell at a profit. If you find fault with this practice then you should have a problem with phoenix as he stated just this when in GameStop of looking for games cheap that he knows he can sell for more. It’s how you run a business
Because you can find most of the games anywhere. Not like they are limited game this is why I don't collect them. And I doubt they care about the how a game is worth.
In my experience, GameStop will sadly usually give more cash, but other game or electronics stores will usually trade more stuff. To clarify I wasn’t trading poop, the last thing I traded was a barely used ps2 with the hard drive and adaptor and a bunch of unopened games like armored core and a bunch of others I didn’t know were worth a lot. GameStop wouldn’t take most of it, but one of the local game shops/electronics stores traded me a brand new 360s and a small tv and a 3ds and a bunch of games I wanted. Let me let you in on a lil secret of those people whose time you clearly don't care about because they're "paid by the hour". I used to work at GameStop and while yes I was paid by the hour, my continued employment was based solely on what I could move, Trades, Upselling, Memberships, Pre-Orders, Etc. Oh and we weren't allowed overtime, so if we were stuck doing trades for people who decided it wasn't enough money after 20-30 minutes of keeping me from cleaning the store then that meant I was working 20 to 30 minutes off the clock after we closed because the store was to be spotless for open the next day. Hate the corporation all you want but the way people like you act are the reason me and my co-workers were verbally abused almost every fucking day by people who though WE were to blame because we were getting paid by the hour so clearly we were profiting off of the price the corporation set.
@@Greg7791 TO elucidate on my previous response, the fact that you can read about the experience my coworkers and I had and blame us instead of the employers who exploited us, makes you an asshole
@@Greg7791 I don't even work in that field any more, I have a cushy desk job that pays above average for my area. But I know that corporations will continue to abuse employees and customers aren't much better usually which was my point. His wasting their time because they are paid hourly is a shitty thing to do. Also in certain states they don't have to provide a reason, they could say that you were not working out with their culture and that would be that
@@Greg7791 if its minimum wage that's just how it is they trample over you and if you even try to stand up for yourself you'll just get the bare minimum hours and fucked over in the long run, that's what corporations do to prevent people from really unionising
Honestly the other 3 were based on corporate and what they can do, so still really great offers. But if you're selling to a guy who owns the place, then that's really good marketing on their part. 1. You're getting stock items even if it's not the greatest seller. 2. You just gave a returning customer store credit to spend in your store. Yes, store credit is that they don't have to pay. However, the customer is 10x more likely to come back and spend more based off of the relationship that was built. But keep in mind the longer you have known the boss then that may play into the greater the deal.

Jesus fuck gamestop I went there recently and they were selling left 4 dead 2 for 40 dollars just because it's backwards compatible I saved money going online and buying one for 12 dollars free shipping
@@caelvm133 You must be a GameStop employee
Ever heard of something called supply and demand?
@@Yeshua_is-Cool you could also buy it in Xbox 360 games online
@@caelvm133 im sayin lmao. ppl be comin up with paragraphs of str8 bullshit for whatever reason
I sold all my video games on ebay. I usually get 50% to 60% of what the game is exactly worth when I bought them. I sold 10 games and got about $300.
i love that he will go into detail on the things we all think about but don't ask youtubers ever. the financial side of things and how he is able to make this a business.
Great job PHOENIX RESALE It’s great to see all the differences from going to multiple stores and great to see your goals. I wish you all the best in accomplishing your dreams and making them true especially purchasing your dream home.
Remember when gamestops motto was "power to the players" but never helps gamers with deals instead tried scamming em
honestly I value the cases themselves at more than a dollar a piece if they're in good shape, especially the for ps2 or gamecube
This video gave me so much nostalgia, some of the old games and seeing you go into these old game stores just made me relive my childhood.
Thanks for doing this. Considering what these retail for, it’s sad that places lowball so much
Haha! Always stoked to see Neil show up XD
They be cappin. They know damn well they gonna be pricing them games $10 each at minimum.
You gotta take into account how long they will sit on the shelves. Not everyone is looking for a Spiderman 2 for the ps3. Lmao
(Needed the small tv cuz roommates were complaining that I was using the tv in the living room for gaming) I had a ps4 at the time and that’s what I had been playing on the tv.
Dude Crackdown 360 is an amazing game and so I checked, it’s selling fur about $14 used on Amazon, surprised no one caught that
Ive only watched two minutes... I know this is gonna be a big episode! Loving it Pheonix!
Oh my god I love that UP mortgage plan. I came here for games, not for my heart to warm 😭. Rooting for you guys!
I used to buy games but as I got older I changed my hobby to coin collecting I noticed how the price of my coins go up in price every few years.

@@achosenone44 yeah ok. 😆
Probably best to just have a yard sale. You'd likely get double what any store is willing to pay you
Bro I did this in my local city with 50 games and ended up selling them for 125
A bunch of ps4 games and Xbox one games I had at a local pawnshop.
Your channel is goated!
I like this idea. It was a great video. People get quotes from contractors all the time that end up not getting the job because the bids are too high.
Honestly I wanna see you succeed.
No bro, you are looking to flip that cash.
I still think he's nice, never judge a person that quick man when you don't know if they actually meant it or not
I disagree, I thought it was a good representation of genuine customer service dawg. Most people are dicks in my neck of the woods
Man what a great video. Along with renix psale and videos like this I'm enjoying the behind the scenes and goal oriented content. I love the support your local game store message...I always tell people local mom and pop shops always seem to pay out best. So good to see the proof in visual form. Can't wait to see you fill all the balloons and get the dream home and warehouse office space you deserve my dude. Great video and spanky is pretty awesome too, love these recent videos caleb.
Thanks for adding the Goof Troop music for my nostalgia!!!
i really hope that these games go up in value later in the years
Based on this scientific experiment, I would buy from Matt all day long :D
Just give it to charity, kids will love these.
@@Greg7791 So I was just supposed to get fired then with no degree or potential jobs lined up? Piss off
@@Greg7791 TO elucidate on my previous response, the fact that you can read about the experience my coworkers and I had and blame us instead of the employers who exploited us, makes you an asshole
You should have went to the labor commission for those unpaid hours
Honestly the other 3 were based on corporate and what they can do, so still really great offers. But if you're selling to a guy who owns the place, then that's really good marketing on their part. 1. You're getting stock items even if it's not the greatest seller. 2. You just gave a returning customer store credit to spend in your store. Yes, store credit is that they don't have to pay. However, the customer is 10x more likely to come back and spend more based off of the relationship that was built. But keep in mind the longer you have known the boss then that may play into the greater the deal.
260 was a dubious lick, he played it cool as a fan too lmao
Hey Caleb I’ve just started re selling video games on eBay a couple weeks ago and it’s so fun! Your videos have helped me know what’s good to get and there so fun to watch so thanks so much and ignore all the hate because your amazing.😎
Good luck on the sales!
Good luck
Thanks guys!
Love your channel man. I really hope you and your wife get the house of your dreams, you deserve it
Spencer is hilarious LOL 🤣 awesome to see him in the videos, Caleb! :)
PS awesome video as always! Also those Woodwick candles are amazing!! I have a few of them myself! :)
I’m normally one for championing smaller stores, but the last local games place I had near me was actually a nightmare for lowballing you for literally anything
Going to Matt's game shop today, I used to live in Lexington for 4 years, driving 3 hours to go there today. Didn't know that place was there lol. Thanks.
Matt's Games is great! They always pay way more than anywhere else I have tried!
Thanks for sharing the price differences. Provides a good perspective. Also, Spanky on the videos is great!! Can't wait for big things to happen in the future
Remember, you literally don’t have to sell it to them. They aren’t ripping you off, your decision to sell to them, rips you off.
With that logic, nothing is ever a rip off hahaha. No one can ever force you to buy or sell anything, so its all your choice.
Man. This sounds like so much fun but yet nerve wracking. I would enjoy doing this.
Omg.... At 10min.. That audio background is from UN Squadron on the SNES. All time favorite childhood game. You triggered my nostalgia
How come they say 2-3$ a piece when you're selling a total of 100 games, and yet they STILL give you lower than 100$?
“We sell them for 2-3 a piece “ so they can’t pay more then a buck
Stores need to make profits to survive. If they sell products for the same price they bought it for, they'll be selling at a loss.
I was so close with GameStop. My bet was 12 dollars and I even told myself they probably won’t even take all the games.
Dont think that this is strictly “scientific” considering that matts games is a business partner and friend on phoenix
The up house idea is so awesome!!!
4:52 +1 like for how honest and true this is. seeing this.. I wouldn't even dare sell my video game collection knowing everything is worth a measly $40
Congrats Caleb! Wishing you all the best of getting into the bigger home to grow the business!
So excited for you both. Love your content!
Very happy to see you both having an amazing target! Sending all the luck, you can do this!
Ahhh a fellow lexentonian. Hats off to you sir. I immediately thought something was up when I saw Dan's Discount
ive been watching for so long and im just realizing you live in my home city and that matts games was literally 5 minutes away from my house,i hope i can meet you one day.
"These people are paid by the hour..."
Wasting someone's time is not excusable. Some of us that own a shop also run it.
My shop gives 1/3 of current retail on commons and up to 1/2 of current retail on better titles depending on condition.
I own Budget PC and Retro Games in Eldon MO.
Charge by the hour if they don't accept your offer. Appraisals aren't free.
THANK YOU. Finally a voice of reason. I am not in the gaming industry but I can only imagine the level of disgust you feel for this guy for doing this. He was completely out of line for saying "They are paid hourly." without considering the other factors of operatoring a gaming store. It's clear this guy hasn't worked a day in his life.
You should do mystery boxes for each different console
Cheering you and your wife on with your goals!
So funny, I grew up with a “Matt’s Game Exchange” - super combo of the stores!
As someone that usually buys consoles a gen or two behind, it's always hard to find some games. It hurts to know when people give games to Gamestop, because they simply throw out stuff.
Damn I would have given you a dollar for each game and taken them all.
Would’ve given them 5
Hey Caleb, out of curiosity, how do you approach games that you see are rising in prices but aren't really worth it to pick up yet when at stores? How do you decide when to take a risk or not?
Having your friend walk around with a scanner (because you don’t even know your prices) while you take up the employees time sifting through your trash… so you can then walk out not selling anything while purchasing decent games you can flip.
Way to support your local spots. Lol
Get a job, and get a life.
Just discovered your channel through Retro Rick. Awesome stuff! Keep up the great work!

“Alright folks here’s the game plan”
great pun 😂😂
People don't always think long term enough. Give it another 20 years and most of these games will increase in value all over again. My holy grail is a complete set of first edition of the first generation of Pokemon Trading Cards. I remember about 2005 I was only offered 2500. I am scared to get them PSA tested through the mail and will only allow the testing in person and in my presence. I've done research and bids start at 125k but with the popularity of Pokemon, their value will only increase. I would love to tell my children that I paid for their college with Pokemon cards 😆.
Whats the song playing at like 2:15?

Bro as soon as I saw the game exchange on the outside I knew exactly where you were. You live in my home town!! Holy crap! I'm in that game exchange at least 3 times a week.
I don't wanna say the city for privacy purpose but I'm at the mall all the time lol that's crazy.
You should have went across the street from game exchange to half price books, they have a big section of games too. But they won't give you as much as Matt's
I love that you buy as you sell
SaGa Frontier 2 is the kind of game I would be excited to find. That's a decent game with really nice sprite work and music.
