Thank you for the information. Going to give it a try. My biggest question is why would both door not work at the same time. The truck sat for about 3-4 wks and then…. Neither door will open. I thought maybe a computer clitch or child lock issue or even a fuse. Why would both go out at the same time.
Anyone else have both go out? Thank you

Thanks for the question... neither back doors open? The back door operation has nothing to do with electronics, they are all mechanical. Sounds like you had some bad luck and both cables failed at the same time. Both of mine have failed over time, but not at the same time.

Mine failed with a week of each other. Top on one, bottom on other. Panels off, caught in rain now! I’ll have to get some of those parts you ordered or picked up at the auto store. Great vid

both of my suicide doors cable I guess (haven't fixed yet, just looking for info. on how too. Mechanic want's $500. Is he cray cray? i don't think so. Therefore I'm here. BOTH DAMN DOORS within hours of each other. I've not gotten far, so perhaps they are on the same line? IDK...seems like it should just be a hatch like the main doors. THey prob. connect via cable system also. I know my nxt vehicle won't have that lol. I've a dodge ram 1500 fully manual, including windows. Love it, not probs. NO major issues. It's a 93, new off showroom floor. Best truck I ever owned. Regular maintenance is all I've done. Tune up's and the likes...sorry. I get gabby.

Typical of Ford and all other major auto manufacturers for that matter. They use a part made of plastic because it saves them a dollar per truck, knowing that it will break, because then, their dealer network gets to charge a customer $500 to repair the problem. ADP, otherwise known as "Additional Dealer Profit". Over 90% of a stealership's profit per year is produced in the service department and parts department, not from selling vehicles.

I hear you, my opinion, auto manufacturers design vehicles these days to last 100,000 miles with no maintainability built into the design. Modern vehicles are so difficult to work on and start to fall apart after 100,000 miles.

Great information on both Top and Bottom cables - Thanks for that! I do wish you had shown the attachment of the new aluminum parts to the cables/housings. I'm sure I can figure it out but, that would have been nice.

I am about to start this job. Looks like mine are broken in the bottom as well. It’s not both doors. I called around a few shops and they said they could do it but would have to look at it first. I’m just nervous about getting into something I might not be able to get back together or breaking a piece of old plastic… maybe I should set a day aside to try and get this done. Appreciate the video!

There were a lot of zip tie fixes online as well but it did not work for me. Seems that black sheathing is just loose and sliding back and forth. Was that the case with yours as well?

    • @DrivingIntelligence

It’s really not that bad. As you said, the rubber pieces are sliding around. Where are you located?
