I hope the potty study went well Mary. I’m so glad there are people like you to help disabled kids at these tours of events. As someone who has unknowingly been disabled my whole life, I know what it feels like to not fit in and to fly under the radar with no one there knowing you are struggling. So thankyou for helping her in such a caring and empathetic way, I know you understand that feeling too, you are the kind of person everyone needs at camp ☺️.

I’m about to go into hospital for a bit because my nutritional state ain’t good (like, the losing 15 pounds in 6 weeks kind of ‘ain’t good’ - and this with my J-tube in), so I totally get concentrating on cookie pedagogy to ease some of the weightier things right now. Hugs x a million to y’all.
(Also, aww, the whole accessibility thing just warms my heart - I grew up visually impaired (no vision in my left eye, and without my glasses, my right eye is just blur), and I loved going to VBS - and I generally ended up partnered with someone like Mary (at least one of them was actually also named Mary 😂) to make sure I could participate to the fullest extent my eyes would let me. So, to know that that’s where your heart lives, Mary, gives me such joy! You’ll be remembered, and with a warm heart, even when that kiddo is nearly 40! ❤❤❤)
( 13:36 - having had a CVC yanked in IR, oh yes do they ever have the tools to dig it out of you while awake - I was pregnant when they put the CVC in, and so had to be awake for that, and it was tunneled, so aggggggghhhhh, the pulling - and I also have an allergy to -caine meds (so, that freezing they put in so I wouldn’t feel it as it was happening, was actually worsening the entire situation), though we didn’t realize it then, so afterward, I was in horrible pain *and* recovering from a big ol’ allergic reaction *and* had my son onboard - my partner literally was reading me Romanian fairy tales to distract me while the nurses were calling the doc and going "Uh, she’s in 9/10 pain and crying, please can we give her something for the pain?" - - I think that may be why any time I hear the words "interventional radiology," I start getting the thousand-yard stare…)
15:23 - Oh, that look. I know that look. Yeah, "you might be a little sore," is a GIGANTIC understatement - they realize how many nerves you can hit in the chest, right? Also, that was literally what they said about my CVC tunneling. I’m really glad you’ve got a good surgeon, and can be under for the port replacement.

I need to get my port removed. I’ve had mine since October 2013. I was in pain when it was place. That lasted for a couple months. My port is on the right side of my chest. A perfect location. Can someone get a new port placed in a place where you’ve had one previously? That my concern for later in the future. I like where my first port is located. If I was trained and allowed to access myself I would 100%. I know the process and protocols from watching and talking to my chemo nurses. In the state of California, I don’t know if patients are not allowed to do self access or it’s strongly discouraged to the point that medical staff don’t even mention the idea. My bets lie more in the first thought. In a way I understand. A port is there for life altering treatment that is necessary. You don’t want a mishap and end up messing it up or injuring yourself. All us port buddies and temperate PIC line users know how deadly import proper sterile procedure is. That line goes straight to your heart. Those are my thoughts and feeling. I understand Mary’s genuine fear of getting her 6 year old port removed. At Stanford, they would be removing my port under full sedation. That is something they will not budge on and I’m grateful. They won’t even entertain the idea of having the cath lab remove it. I want to do my port removal surgery at my local hospital and clinic network that my mom works for. I got all my cancer related treatment at the Stanford Cancer Center, but that’s 3 hours away. I have an aunt that lives 15-20 minutes from Stanford, but I kind of want to be close to home. Be able to get home right after with little discomfort. I also get VIP treatment when I go into the hospital for anything. For instance, when I got my port placed, the DIRECTIR of registration for the cath lab walked me through the entire process and procedure. She got me right up at the front of the check in line and got me in and done with my placement a lot faster than average patients. That was a simple procedure. With this one I definately want that level of attention. Call me whatever you want but wouldn’t you want access to insider help if you could easily get it? If you made it this far, thank you for reading my rambles. This procedure genuinely scares me. Im not afraid or nervous with medical things but this one scares the 💩 out of me. 10 years with my port pal… ouch… I’m scared guys. I’ve been putting this off. And still am…

I hope the portacath study goes really easily (well as much as it can go). Digging it out of your chest sounds heinous. Not my idea of tolerable either. OR, as long as it’s not a huge health risk, is better. That said, make sure you take the risks seriously and stick with the best long term outcome. I hope you don’t even need a new one but I know it’s been in a crappy placement location soooooo maybe it’s time to upgrade to a more comfortable location. You can work it out if needed with care and all and the recovery will be ok. That’s why God made pain meds. Lol. You don’t have to be any more uncomfy than you can tolerate. And if the nerves are too much, do ask for a night before anxiety medication if your newer baby is sleeping thru the night Mom life is hard eh?
I don’t have kids but these details make me appreciate not having them but truly I’m so happy for you guys. Wanted to take that journey myself but was unable to. Learning a lot about kids and chronic illness juggling with you tho.
Hang in there and I hope it was good news only. If not, you have so many people who care and I know that doesn’t take away nerves and pain but truly you have gotten through so much that this will be a short term problem only I hope. Just another hurdle. I wish you didn’t have these but as is, don’t forget you are an overcomer. You’ve got this, Mary! Sending Oreos and choc chippers for recovery. Xo

In Peter's defense... He left a sandwich cookie sooo if one splits said cookie maybe ... one can say it's 2 cookies with tiny bit a frosting. Or sorry, brother . I'd keep a spare bag .

When we were kids we always got lots of snacks. However one day my younger sister showed me, our mother had her own peppermint patty hidden stash. Don't think Dad knew about it either. Just saying, nothin wrong with your stash. 😂

@@annettepurtle3757 fair enough! Although I can understand it may be hard for them to record while out and about with Eli, especially now that they have a baby too. I think they’re still adjusting to life with two small children, plus Peter working again and Mary’s health. Give them some time to adjust to this new season…I’m sure soon enough they’ll be back to posting their usual content. Have a blessed day! ❤️🙏🏻

Very hard to do when Peter is working full time. Mary is dealing not only with her medical needs but their son. And a new foster child. That cannot be shown except from behind.

I think that you guys need to improve your cookie purchasing techniques. There should always be a brand new package of Oreos on hand. So, as soon as you open a package, you need to get another package on your grocery list. Problem solved! ha ha ha ha ha!

Oh man, the single crumb of a snack left in container on multiple or most occasions has me seeeeeeeeeething. My housemate just had to shout down his mothers husband for doing it all the time because it turned out he did it on purpose. He didnt want to be doing "womens work". He would rather leave packages on the shelf/cupboard and make his 70+yo wife clean up after his 50+yo self - and he'd bible thump his way into shutting her down over his repetitive, intentional behavior. He does it "less" now since her son got into him for it. Sorry Im not saying its what's happening here, but UGH it sure reminded me of it...
