Take a small radio with you to get broadcast commentary. The internet stream will be about 30-40 seconds behind what you're looking at in the distance. Broadcast rules.
Thanks
Hey man, love your channel. Was just sitting here thinking about how crazy it is what ETNZ have done, basically walked away from home advantage, alienated a huge amount of their fan base, but in the meantime they look about to grow the sport to new heights with the youth and women's cups/ac40s and just how good the main class is, taking it to Barcelona for more exposure and to make it easier for the other teams. It's a huge gamble but quite amazing what they have done.
Thought you could make a great video about it
It is a big talking point and I am sure a lot their kiwi fans will have an opinion.
Personally, I think the AC40 looks great, and am excited to watch the youth and women's racing. And obviously as a European having the Cup here is easier than Aukland... not sure I would feel the same if INEOS won then defended overseas though
I agree! Iys just so far from here in Auckland where we have walked around the viaduct checking out all of the bases at last cup.
Excruciating.
We can't even get a sail gp round in Auckland. Enjoy the vibe Mozzy.
Looking forward to your coverage.
@@crispyworks Yeah but to be fair Auckland is stuffed. The traffic is crazy and that's when there are no events on lol i think it sucks, they don't have a NZ round of sail gp considering they are NZ made boats.
e-scooters are a great way to get around Barca
Brilliant info / production Mozzy! Thank you for this. This clip reminds me of the days we used to walk around the Viaduct checking out all of the teams bases. My wish is for TNZ to defend successfully and bring the cup back so I could see and feel the vibe / action one more time.
One of the world's great cities, has it all, food, nightlife, great people, architecture and culture....and now the AC!
Highly over-rated imo. I live close to Barcelona and find the city rather dull, a bit grungy, overcrowded with tourists and a lot of very poor restaurants.
There will be an official RNZYS bar in Barcelona, the exact location hasn't been confirmed yet. ETNZ did say that the best viewing will be on the beach rather than on the water.
Nice one! Also just watch out for pick pockets!
Great insights Tom. I love Barcelona. Easy to get around using Google maps and the great bus services. Lots of relaxed outdoor architecture to enjoy including the Sagrada familia and Park Guell.
thanks for posting, have a wonderful time there
Wow Mozzy, thanks!
Hey, thanks for the good explanation. How much in advanced do the teams bring the boats into the water before start? 1h or more?
Will you be around in Barcelona during the cup the complete time?
What’s about a Mozzy channel bar
Cheers Tim
a folding eScooter would be a great way of getting around shoreside.
Great tips!
Hope to find everyone there
Well done! Great summary.
Glad it helped!
My tip would be to grab hire bikes. There is a great cycle path all along the beach, and it will slice your time to get from dockout to the start area.
Nice you both already had a trip to barcelona. ..
Having visited two of the team bases so far I´d say grab a bike and some binos and get pedalling as this allows you to cover both team bases and the sailing beaches with ease. The best fixed spots would be the World Trade Centre or the newly opened square on the water directly in front of Luna Rossa which gives a direct view of the Italian and French bases while covering the exit and entry routes for the remaining teams. From Luna Rossa you are 2 minutes from Barceloneta beach. The bar next to the America´s Cup Experience gives reasonable views of Ineos and is also 2 minutes from the Swiss base. The French and America bases are very difficult to view unless you are on the water in Port Vell.
great tips
We visited last week and I could hardly contain my excitement. Wife has given me a pass for one weekend in Barcelona for the cup. Which weekend would you recommend? Supporting Ineos Britannia.
Currently thinking 12th-13th October races
I travelled to Barcelona from Zurich Switzerland by night train twice, great experience. I am not sure where you end up now, probably at the huge central station Sants, may Francia. From both there are several ways to get to the beach. It looks like a short walk on the map, but don't be fooled ... nice video, thx!
Nice job, Tom & Rob. Can't join you out here, sadly. But great to feel the vibe, through your report.
Loved the video. I'm already booked with my family to be there. Would like to know where I can find the daily schedule with hour-by-hour listing of events/activities/ceremonies for the Thurs-Sun races (22-25 Aug). For example, if the races are starting at 14:00 (I don't know, but guessing), what could I do/see if I was down at the site from 10:00? Could I meet any team members by just going to their bases? Did you check out the simulator? Is it worth the price (or is it not up and running yet)? Do you think you need to book a time slot in advance, or could you do it when you're there? Any info would be great.
Nice one. Looks like I'll get a nice view from my super gin palace 😂
Amazingly, this might end up being a better venue than Bermuda.
it's more accessible, for sure
Hey i was sailing bay today
Just a pity it’s so bloody far from Sydney!
And Auckland. But needs must....
Hi Mossy, How is the switch one design video going!
Come on, the best way to go to Barcelona is on your own keel!
True!
Just mind the killer whales/Orcas that are regularly playing with rudders, spinning yachts and sinking 40 footers in the mouth of the med. Google "Atlantic Orca Working Group" and save yourself some heartache (and cash).
500 Iberian Orca interactions with yachts, 250 damaged, 4 sunk.
The Orcas play with the rudders
Don’t give up your day job. But great to see you pick up a few perks for your spot on analysis over the years.
So a 3/10 on the audition for a regular spot on Wish You Were Here! ?
My best advice is to drink a beer on Americas cup experience restaurant every thursday’s afternoon with all the teams members 😂
I did here that this had become a thing... need to book my flights a day earlier next time
Why don't they have a boat?
Ha, The French have taken over my old SGS office.
Will video analysis only be paid for channel going forward?
no, all my main videos will still be up on the channel (just waiting for French to launch and then will revisit the other boats again). However, I am putting up some additional content on Patreon and TH-cam Channel Members. These are early video ideas and thoughts, plus some smaller details
Just seen the French video. Looking forward to the others… who do you think is looking good so far??
Part 1 in the series; Boozy Boat Brit in Barcelona. ;)
🤣
Unfortunately, Barcelona has degraded into a tourist hub and many parts have totally lost their authenticity. I've been living in Spain 30 years now and the last 12 years in Catalonia, on the outskirts of BCN. It will I am sure however, put on a marvelous show for the AC37 (wind permitting).
Totally agree with you, a very over rated city with far too many mindless tourists.
Columbus discovered the America's cup. Sailing history reimagined.
😁
One of my very favourite cities. Watch out for the immigrant pickpockets. That the local police do fuck all about 🤷♂️
Oh that music... talk about culturally insensitive. Barcelona is in Catalunya, not Analucia, cringe worthy, as in "Hayling is like Hawaii".
Fixable?
Best view of INEOS dock outs are from the 5th floor terrace bar on top of the Museu de l'Historia de Catalunya. Plan B, if you are self employed, for 50€ you can join Tech Barcelona (100 startups next to the museum) and use their roof terrace.
Best food with view of INEOS at La Mar Salada. Order table by window on top floor.
