That appears to be specimen of the extremely rare hexagenia gigantus. Found only in certain parts of southern Ohio and in the headwaters of the Potomac.
Thank you for great explaining about this reel. My chose for 2-4 weight rods will be Ross Colorado reels, they not so heavy and also not so expensive fly reels.
Looks really nice. Was thinking about picking up a Vaya for a "self" christmas present. Probably still go that route, but this is interesting for sure.
A fantastic reel to fish. I’ve started selling some of my older cheaper reels, keeping some nicer beaters for teaching or loaning “friend rods.” Once you fish a Ross, Hatch, Abel, Hardy, etc., it’s hard to go back.
I've always loved the San Miguel. I never understood why they don't make it in larger sizes. These would make perfect spey reels in larger sizes. Us spey guys are always on the lookout for reels that are on the heavier side to balance the long rod. Of course that would make too much sense and it will never happen. Ross hasn't made a good looking reel in a long time...this is one. This should be the aesthetic of their top of the line saltwater models as well. They should also offer it in other colors, like gold, but again, they probably won't do that...maddening.
Would love to see reel reviews with line and backing on them. There are not a lot of online photos of high end reels showing how they will actually look 👀
Thanks for checking with us but that's not going to happen here. Once a line goes on a reel, it can't be sold at retail. We do pretty well around here but not that well.
This reel will offset the balance on longer fly rods. If you fish a Sage X 597 the 4/5 will balance it perfectly with the RIO Single Handed Spey Line with the head out of the guides.
Did you have to pay Batman royalties for the music near 7:04? Inquiring mind want to know. Looks like a nice reel, but way too rich for my tastes, but I am cheap.
What size is the mayfly on the shelf to your left? It appears to be about 40/0.
Not sure, haven't asked.

Johnny Lightning Actually it’s not real. Just a carving. Art.

Both won "Best of Show". Pretty different animals though. Feel free to call the shop if they can help.

Thanks for watching. Something special about a finely crafted fly reel, that's for sure.

DragonGP Great reel but yes, very “trout” oriented. Us big/long rod guys don’t get the choices.

“Just like butter.” 👍👍👍
Could not have said it better. Thanks.

Any chance you will be going over the new Gunnison as well?
Send your request over to Brian at the shop via e-mail. admin@madriveroutfitters.com. Thanks.
Could the 4/5 swing up from a 4 wt to a 6wt? or would I better off getting the 5/6 and going down to a 4wt
Cody Naetzker Sounds like a question for the shop. Send an e-mail or call and they will be happy to help.

What about "backlash" of the spool when casting without the clicker? 🤔
It has a great drag, even when at it's lowest setting. it wont spin and surely won't backlash.
@@Madriveroutfitters Thanks! 👌

Johnny Lightning Could it be a clue? Brian has an alter ego?
Nice reel, but out of my budget. love the Batman interval
