Its the same with all hobbies/professions really. Take playing pool for example. You can become a certified beast with just a bar stick but if you're competing in league or especially on the professional tour, youre gonna spend 3 or even 4 figures on a pool stick And just like musicians. The price of their instruments often reflect their professional level. A guitar
I was a photographer and started second shooting for video and hybrid wedding coverage a handful of times the last couple years and decided to start doing it on my own this year. I was really surprised how much different I have to think about the whole process from actual "pre-pro" planning to the editing being totally different. It's been super fun but I thought the photo to video transition would be more like "siblings" to each other but it's more like distant step cousins

I got my canon EOS R8 with a RF 24mm - 105mm F/4.0-7.1 lens to take good photos, and am very interested in making videos too. Just need to come up with something!
I love how the YT Algo lead me to Joris, and this dude is right.. you learn while you start putting yourself out there, regardless of the gear you currently have.- and this is what I am going to do.
there is useful info and then there is the delivery of that fabulous info. and this video has both the ingredients and much more. thanks for being you.
I’m glad I learned on simple equipment. We had cine cams in the local college. But they were to complicated for beginners. We used them but they set them up each time. My current camera is way too complicated for beginners.
yes for me its the same, making videos for yt has given me a kick in the bud also. It’s super cool to have that death-line every-week to upload. I'm learning a lot about videography making these videos. But I miss the part how to tell a story with video, thats super difficult for me. I also want to learn more about how you got in to YT and stuff, but i want to talk with a beer in ours hands 😁 some time in the future.
Thank you for your timely tutorial. God bless you. I have a canon 60d with 15-135 zoom lens for video. Please which lens should I buy next. I'm considering 50mm prime lens. Will tha help me? Thank you.
Trial and Error and sometimes you find something that works that you didn't expect, don't be afraid to fail that was the best advice I got from my Photography Mentor years ago.
Start now and make mistakes. So true. I have been videoing for 8 months and my settings are causing all kinds of problems for me. Especially video skipping and lagging sound using GoPro cameras. My mirrorless camera is more forgiving! Slowly getting it right and close to publishing videos. Frustrating, but it is experience and learning.
This is a great video as I’m getting back into videography after a few years not doing it I’ve been watching so much content to refresh myself on everything
Great advice Joris!! Great information and a great inspiration!!! Your beginners information is so helpful to me. I appreciate your time to put a TH-cam video together. Great job!!
Wow good, honest, no bull crap video, just what I needed right now, well I will start in editing videos, bc right now I don't have money on buying a camera😅, but I think I will camp on your channel from now on
Hi, your video is so informative! Thanks for sharing. I just wanna ask what lense should I use for my canon m50 and I’m using it for videography(for camping) thank you.
And what do you think instead buying a few lenses, should I mayby buy a fimbal? cuz all my videos that I trying to shoot are very shake and in my opinion to buy an 30mm lens if you on a budget its can be not enough
Hi Joris, how can I reverse the text when recording or livestreaming the text looks backwards and that is really frustrating I have my screen reversal on but that didn't do it. I use a Canon EOS m50 Mark ii. I primarily use my camera for livestreaming. Thanks a million appreciate your help Gary
Hey Newbie here just curious what is the name of that hand held looking strobe light? I do photography and I'm really interested into getting into the videography side of things.
Haha, I clicked on your video because I'm new here and I typed into the search: "learn videography". After just a few minutes I found you really good. 5:39 I used the free version for more than a year, a year and a half, two years even I think or three, maybe four I'm not sure. I believe it was five. No six, six years... or seven?
Good afternoon from this side, please i tried creating an account on motion vfx and after doing that, i was instructed to pay $89 s0 my question is, is the $89 for subscription or just to buy a particular LUT
Depends on what you want to do with your camera and your style. Even though I think it looks amazing, I only use mine once every two or three months...
I am so confused by all of this. I really don’t know where to begin even though I’ve watched so many TH-cam videos and been to countless websites - I still don’t know what to buy. I am obviously starting out, and I need a camera & lens (on a tripod) to shoot in front a green screen that I’ve built at home. I have great lighting, DaVinci Resolve and the tests filmed on an iPad Pro (to me) look great, but now I am ready to buy a real camera & a good lens with a budget of £1,000 GBP. Do you have any recommendations for me? Thanks 😊
For your needs the Sony ZV-E10 would be perfect. 💯💥 Just be aware that there's a croo when shooting in 4k 30p so if that's what you need, go for a wide enough lens.
@@JorisHermans Hey Joris, thanks for the recommendation. I've done nothing but look at videos and websites all day about the ZV-E10 (I'm exhausted!), and I think you're spot on so will be buying one this week. I'm going to learn to use the kit lens first to see if it's useable because it's a 16-50mm, and even though I am a complete newbie, I have already learnt enough to be convinced that will do the job even if it crops (I will be using 4K 25p). Once I understand more about filming with an indoor green screen and expanding my knowledge with Resolve, I will know what to look for when upgrading lenses. Thanks again 🙂
@@JorisHermans Update on your reply. I spent so much time watching videos about the Sony ZV-E10 after your recommendation that I was convinced you were right and so decided to buy it. It arrived last week, and I’m just getting to grips with it now. I’ve not used it on my green screen yet because I want to learn all of the features and its settings first, but so far I think it’s an excellent product. Thanks so much for replying because I would probably still be walking around like a headless chicken 🐔 You should contact Sony for some commission! Cheers🙂
I STRONGLY disagree with the lenses.. There are professionals who use literally only 1 lens for most projects. If you are just starting, a kit lens is more than enough. Investing in lenses comes only after you figured out that you actually want to get into the business and already have shooting experience. What difference does it make if you have a 25mm, 35mm, 50mm etc... when you dont even know what you gonna shoot, or how to shoot, or how to adjust aperture and iso and when... Learn how to handle a lens and learn all its limits...only then you will know the difference when you buy another one.

What lenses do you already have?
I use the 15mm and it’s kinda not good to film especially at low light conditions
is that the 15-45mm kitlens?
Yes it is. I’m thinking of shifting to 50mm f1.8. Is it good also for low light conditions?
