- Some say that carving wood is a really satisfying activity. There's only one way to find out. First, I had to make an appropriate tool, though. It was a fun project!

I found you on Reddit I will follow you :))
Nice! So reddit was good for something after all!
👍🇸🇦
I know its just a simple tool, but it was nicely done and came out very nice. A tool that should serve you, and your children's children, very well. Oh the chips it will make for years to come. Good job.
Thanks!
Great result with simple tools . Keep up the good job
Thanks, I’ll try!
You do very nice work, mate! You should post more often!
Wow, thanks! It‘s an honour to hear that from you! I am planing to make more videos again in the future.
Awesome
That’s a perfect little blade that would be a great EDC KNIFE 👍
Perfect! A lot of manual work, only a lathe as a machine. That's great.
Thanks!
Hello, nice little carving knife you made. Thanks for taking the time to show how you made it.
Thanks for taking the time to watch it!
Finally someone using a hack saw instead of a fuck’n mini-grinder, bravo!
Finally someone appreciates it. Thanks!
Nice job, I love that you are still using hand tools
Thanks!
In my humble opinion, I believe that true craftsman are a dying breed. Not saying that people who use power tools aren't craftsman, just saying that doing it by hand brings a certain essence and quality that tools just doesn't. Pride of ownership and craft are on the way out in our country. Sad but true...but I'm gonna keep on being old school as long as I can. Thanks for the video. You reminded me of why I do things how I do them. Much appreciated
how does bro have a lathe but not a drill
Really beautiful work, dude! It looks amazing!!! 😃
Happy new year! And stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! Happy new year to you and your family as well!
Beautiful little knife, ive got a few file tails hanging around my shop as well as tons of small cunks of steel, definitely going to be making myself a few carving knives soon
Yes, do it!
Great looking knife. Very well done!
Thanks!
Awesome! Geronimo would be proud of you! 🏹
Thanks!
Great knife. Thankyou for posting the video.
Thanks for watching!
This is a simple video of a great work.. Love it..
Thank you!
fantastic build, I will have to put this on my to build list, lol....
Thanks! Enjoy making your own version!
I've had a quick peek at all your other videos. I would LOVE to see you make a scorp.
Good idea. I’ll keep that in mind! Thanks for watching!
A nice small little cutter! Ash is a (very) hard wood, so I can’t believe that plug was merely cut into two with a kitchen knife. It would be impossible even with sawing movements, no matter how sharp the knife was and what magic steel , it was made from. You need a saw to do that.
Haha, well spotted! 😀
Hand filing a hand file with a hand file 🔥
That‘s the way to do it!
Hehehe kinda like a tongue twister
"hand filing a normalized hand file with a hardened hand file" it is
Great Job ... really impressive how you did it ...
Thanks!
Wow you gave me an idea to make a wooden knife!
Hella dope knife, @imadethischannel!
Thanks!
This was really fun to watch.
Thanks!
I'll have to try that too when I get my hands on an old file.
Nice work and keep going
Thanks, and yes, get an old file!
Thanks for your answer. How long did you anneal the file to get it soft? is it then just cooled down to room temperature?
@matthiasjakub512 I just heat it until it is red and let it cool in air. That usually works.
Thanks for the advice!
LOVE the Mallet!
Haha, yes. I borrowed that because I have previously broken handles with heavier ones…
@@imadethischannel you were fortunate to have a friend who would loan you such an instrument!
Yes, totally.
Excelente trabajo. Muchas gracias por compartir.
Thanks for watching.
bro used a file to file a file
thats a very nice knife thanks for posting
Thanks for watching!
Nicely done.
Thanks!
Nice and clean work done by you... 🙏
Thanks!
beautiful street scapel .
thank you for your comment ,i really enjoyed watching your skills making it.
Skillfully made indeed , rest is up to the artisan how this tool is used.
Yes, may he burn many sausages.
Well done very nice little diy carver NGL I'm jealous
Thanks!
Better than Maigret thoughroly enjoyed your craftsmanship best wishes Rick. 🇹🇹🚣♂️🇯🇴🇺🇦💕
Thanks!
Great looking knife 😉😉
Thanks!
Great work. Someday I'll try something like that. ❤
Thanks! And yes, do it!
id like a anti slip groove or gourd on mine
and prefer a indexing shape so you can know the knife side with out looking
Beautiful😊
Thanks!
😂 like the ending
Thanks!
Nice video, very entertaining.
Thanks!
Beautiful project 🍺
Thanks!
What I liked was the "mini lathe" Do you have a video of how do you built it?
Hey, I didn‘t actually build that one. These were sold by a company named Wolfcraft. I‘m not sure if they are still sold.
Bravo Mastery...😊😊😊
Thanks!
I saw your work and I was jealous. I mean the sausage.
Well, the grilling results from this video were not really worth the envy ;)
Just got yourself a new subscriber
Great!
really nice....all hand tools
Thanks for watching!
I love it 5hank you
Thanks for watching!
Very nice
Thanks!
Nice knife
I would have melted some silver solder at the base of the ferrule at the blade just to fill it in.
Did it shave hair after the last water stone with final strop ?
Good idea with the solder! And yes, it was very sharp in the end.
Thank you for your video I learn haw to make by my hand
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
Awesome, very beautiful video!! How many time did you spend to make it?
Thanks! It actually takes quite long because of all the filming. Just the knife could probably be done in an afternoon.
Martín Fierro, a classic Argentine literary character by José Hernández, claimed to have the facón (gaucho's knife) made with a flat file.
Hey, thanks for your comment. I‘m not sure I understand what you mean 😀
Very good.
Thanks!
very nice job.
but i have a question . is the inside of the file carbon steel. because i think they only add loose carbon on the outside of the file and harden that. or am i wrong and is it all carbon steel. i mean does it hold it sharpness for a long time?
Thanks! This one was all carbon steel. But I have had files that were only case hardened. It took me a while to understand why I could not harden them. Now I try to harden a piece of a file before I use it for a project.
@@imadethischannel ok thanks for the answer i was just wondering. keep upthe nice videos
I need to mention that thinning on your Atoma flattening stone will make it wear out quick. I used to use my atoma for lots thinning for about 6 months and now its slower than an 800 grit diamond stone. Only use it for flattening, that's what it's made to do. For lots of grinding and thinning I tend to use either sandpaper (I usually wet my atoma and stick the sand paper on top, it's perfectly flat and has a great grip) or I use the "Sharpening Supplies" Grinder stone. It's an 80 grit water stone and works FAST. You will need some loose silicon carbide grit however, such as 60/90 tumbling grit. Other than that there is "THE BEAST" (this is it's real name) 50 grit diamond stone that's pretty cheap.
Also to make annealing easier (and softer) its nice to have a little pot full of burnt ash. When work is hot, stick it deep into the ash. It cools down very slowly and it's very soft afterwards, this is what most blacksmiths do.
Ok, thanks! Good to know!
Nice ❤❤❤❤
Thanks!
i love this videos (your)
Thanks!
Next time burn the tang into the handle - you will get a better fit...
Yes, true. I sometimes do that as well.
Didn’t you ever watch forged in fire where they always cringed when the people did that? Geez. I’m kidding, but they always did.
@@dang6832 Still gives the best fit I know of...
Bravo
Thanks!
Tutorial on how to sharp knives please 🙏
I don‘t have immediate plans, but I might make one!
Quedo chingona ...
I bet you do :)
Thanks!
Man, what saw blades do you use? How long does it typically take you to saw through stuff like files and threaded rods?
These are standard saw blades and the time depends very much on the thickness of the material. Treaded rods and files are pretty quick, though. Check out my router plane video if you want to see some serious hand sawing workout ;)
@@imadethischannel thanks for the reply man! I’ve make that my next watch. I love the atmosphere (or vibe if you are like those kool kidz) that your videos bring. It reminds me of the opening credits from the movie Napoleon Dynamite, minus the singing haha.
@B_COOPER hey, thanks! I have to rewatch that.
Like for hand tools!!!
Thanks!
Great Job. Thanks for showing us. Can you talk me where I can buy a lathe like yours. Thanks again.
Hey, thanks for watching! The lathe was made by a company called Wolfcraft. I‘m not sure if it is still sold. I can also not really recommend it. It‘s not rigid enough and it feels kind of unsafe to use.
@@imadethischannel I would remove the tool rest when you're not using it,no chance then of getting fingers caught in the gap
Carefull! Don´t burn the sausage!
Haha, yes. I overdid it a bit:)
Is that "lathe" home made or can you buy that?
That is something that was once sold by a company named Wolfcraft. I am not sure if they still make it, though.
I had a knife like this, a long time ago it was called belly cuter.
Oh, what‘s your line of work?
@@imadethischannel Relax. I’m not a maniac. I need this knife for cutting bellies of fish, before cooking.
I dont get it, how is it he able to cut a file with a hack saw? Is it normalized/anealed?
Nvm, I appearently skipped the few secconds with torch..
You need to put the hotdog on point insert long way. That’s the way to not break the hotdog and lose it to the fire:)
Great job on the knife, good to see people actually using mostly hand tools to make something looking awesome. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! And I‘ll work on my hotdog technique!
Buenos muchachos.
I would love to have that carving knife … how much if your willing to sell or maybe make me a custom one ?
Hi, thanks for your interest in my knife! At the moment, all the projects I do are one-offs and I don’t sell anything. But this may change in the future. You can write me an email (see channel info) or leave your contact in my patreon so that you can get notified if that should happen.
Best
Thanks!
Step one grab your file and start filing your file with the file until it gets filed enough until it looks less like a file. Lol
Exactly!
mmm, sausage...
👍👏👏👏
😊😊😊
You blow torch a piece of metal then casually just pick it up like it's nothing
Allowed time to cool
There is some minor editing in these videos.
Thats something us in the industry call: Editing
But how long does it take to achieve cutting edge with a 1200grit wetsone? HOURS?
It depends on the thickness of the blade before you start and the angle of the bevel :) it was a 1000 grit water stone and I didn’t take hours. But yes, the whole project is not geared towards time efficiency…
@@imadethischannel yeah ofcourse... i asked this spesific project, i saw you left a good chunk of steel on the edge(1,5 to 2mm thick maybe?) when hardening... i mean i know its necessary to leave some to prevent conflicts on hardening state but still its a nightmare me to grind hard steel 😂😂
@goonstuck haha, yes :) I don‘t remember exactly but it was definitely less than a mm. But it is a tradeoff. I tend to err on the patience side because I have had to redo stuff many times where I tried to cut corners…
@imadethischannel 🫡🫡 same same... years of failure but I still don't learned my lesson 😂😂 trying to find minimum still
Very funny
Bro stop telling him what’s not right and telling him what he’s doing wrong like watch the video and enjoy he’s telling you how to do it
Thanks 🤩
That is not a “piece of ash” ! Is wood 😂
Ash is a type of wood. There's an ash tree, ash forests and and ash wood axe handles
Haha, thanks for stepping in 😀
@@imadethischannel Ash is my favorite ❤️
Mine too. Especially for handles. I always try to keep my ash tray well stocked.
i can do all the same with a cheapest kitchen knife
Sharpening a stick and burning a sausage?
,👍
WHAT IS THAT LATHE?? I WANT ONE
It was made by a company named Wolfkraft. I’m not sure if they still make it. It’s not that great, though. It’s pretty scary to operate 😀
Mega
Danke!
como te gusta la salchicha
It was a bit overcooked 😀
