Torb, as a retired master lapidary, award winning designer and hand fabricating goldsmith, I know that there is a world of difference between “precision” and _precise_ precision; that there is a difference between “good enough for public consumption ” and true mastery of a craft. Thank you, my friend, for the chance to watch the latter in action. Very nice work, indeed!
Little wonder why I and so many others repeatedly watch your videos because you are such a marvelous artist craftsman. Your work is beautiful as is the result. Congratulations Torb on another beautiful video. You are the Master.

When I was about 10 or 12 living in Penny,BC Canada I had mowed laws help cut peoples wood for a whole year to buy in the late 70's a German chip carving kit with two oil stone kit from Lee Valley. The one you made totally reminds me of those that I still have a use. Very nice work you will inspire me when I have my forge up and running again in a year. Thanks for the share.
Hey Ben, just read your comment and thought... this guy likes to watch people make stuff! I just started building a stand up paddle board out of plywood and thought you might like to follow along! th-cam.com/video/hPWi1gfqZKI/w-d-xo.html
I don't understand why so many dislikes, the only negative comments I see are about the handle but that follows pretty closely to the euro style carving handle so I think people just don't understand that it's a purpose built knife. Anyway, Love the fact that you made this from the drop off another knife. I'm always looking for ways to minimize material loss and this nails it. Beautiful knife, flawless execution as always. Kudos!
I like your slow and deliberate way of doing things. Its more precise and shows professionalism and care than some super speeded up thrill fest maker video.

a sharp knife is a safe knife, but that carving demo at the end had me sweating. your technique of off-setting the handle on the lathe is brilliant. great work, as always!
It may be a little knife, but there is such a lot of engineering knowledge and artistic sensitivity to make such an effective and beautiful product. As an engineer, I cannot help appreciating and admiring the knowledge about the metallurgy and the heat treatment phases that this gentleman takes that small volume of metal through, to finish up with the required effective metal zones to fit the purpose of the knife. As for the wooden handle, the shape and length and grip circumference and length of knife with respect to the handle length, this gentleman has it all so well balanced with applying the lever principle in the right proportion and moments. Sir, congratulations and well done. What a pity that many schools/educators do not appreciate such a high level of intelligence. In my time 80 years ago many children went by the wayside because their intelligence was not appreciated by their teachers who regarded reading and writing as the epitome of education, memory was preferred from logic, reason and rational thinking and a lot of dexterity and processes controlled by an intelligent mind. Memory is not intelligence.
Lovely to see a small functional knife here on TH-cam! It tends to be a lot of big, bulky, cool looking knifes that makes for nice thumbnails. Thanks for bringing something practical to the table 😊 #Everybodylovesagoodcarvingknife 🐝
That's an eminently elegant way to shape the handle. Very nicely done. I love the reflection of the light in the grain of the wood as brought out by the linseed oil.
That may be because the long sleeves are gone before he starts the lathe. I wasn't sure about his dust mask and eye-pro though? I like a full face shield for wood turning just in case.
Superb to see what effort it requires to craft such classic tools like this. I have several knives like this, in different sizes, which are the mainstays of my toolbox for making musical instruments. I shall value them even more now!
I agree in many belongs: You get what You pay for. But there are some rare exceptions - and owning a knife very similar to this is one of them. There is a high quality carving knife on the market that (imo) delivers more than You pay for: The Morakniv 120 has a blade of laminated Steel that keeps sharpness long and is esy to resharp on a bankstone(*) and it's prize is amazing. (* normally I do 2-3 pulls each side on 1000 grit, sometimes finish with 6000)

While your such a talented blacksmith and turn out stunning work, as you were wood turning you did a trick I last saw my father do, when he was alive, you lated the back of the chisel on the turning piece to hear if it was rounded or not. It instantly brought back memories of my dad, thank you for that
Now I've begun carving and this is very interesting to me as I've gotten into Blacksmith for wood working tools and should be busy with making chisels and gouge and knives Thanks for teaching 😮😂
I would love to have the knowledge you have about blacksmithing, in addition to your forge, which is not only functional but also beautiful. Really, very good job.
Always as clean as it can be. Beautiful job. Just one suggestion: if you need to make another hidden tang knife, try to use a syringe to push the epoxy all the way down. I use also a heat shrinking tube (the ones used to cover electric wire junctions) attached to the tip of the syringe to get all the way to the bottom, pulling it out slowly as i push the epoxy in. Easy and cheap way to ensure the whole cavity is filled. That being said, you made me want to go hammer, turn and carve something. Your channel is so addictive! Thanks for sharing your incredible all-around craftmanship!
Why, sir, the beauty of the "small carving knife" handle equals that of the blade ! ( 22:55 ) A perfect complement to each other. Bravo ! I could rub linseed oil into that beauty quite regularly !
