- In this video we show you how to prune blackberry plants, as we undertake our annual pruning of the blackberry vines.
If you have been wondering what varieties of blackberries you can grow that are non-invasive, we share the variety we grow so that the blackberry plants don't become weeds in our Aussie bush.

If you are looking for the variety of blackberries we grow, we got them from Diggers Club WAY back. They are the Waldo thornless variety.
Thank you for that I was hoping to grab a few to start growing my own
Another great video.
Thank you for sharing how you go about pruning and I love that you tell everyone why you prune.
Thanks a bunch 💕 ☺️
Looking forward to seeing it's evolution ❤
Thanks Alison. Looking forward to sharing (and eating) the harvests ahead 😀
Looking a little chilly there. We are hitting the 30,s up here in Brisbane. Great video. Thanks
Sounds lovely Rowena. Still puffer jacket weather here. Looking forward to warmer weather ahead 🌞
Great video! I you mention you’re in a cold zone with a shorter season but I can’t find a reference to your average winter low temp to see how comparable it is to me in Northern New England. I know the hardiness zones are mostly a US thing, but our average lows are around -15F (-26C) and I’m a,ways on the look out for shorter season gardeners with cold winters. Our frost free season is typically the middle of May to October 1st.
Oooohhhhh.... you have us well beat on the cold and average temps. We are quite a cold zone for Australia, but our coldest month average is 4°C. Nights below freezing dip to -3°C on extreme nights.
I have very similar sheathed wire. I'm still using the lengths I cut from it 6 years later 😊
Oh that is wonderful to hear! I really appreciate your advice and hope ours lasts that long too 😀
This was so great, I have wanting to grow raspberry and blackberry in over sized lots but worried about the birds spreading seed. Knowing there is a tamer variety is ideal. As a renter I can't be building structures but will start planning something for them climb up. BTW I am doing first scraps stock this coming week having seen you 'how to' video, looking forward to the result. 🥰😻😻
That is really lovely to hear this share has been helpful Helen. It is great to be able to get yummy fresh blackberries, but know they aren't going to get out into the environment. And thats wonderful you are doing the scrap stock. It is great to be able to create something delicious from what often becomes waste.
I wish I was a bit closer, I’d be in that swap group for sure!!
The organisers have tried so hard over the years to keep it going and inspire people to go. I love the concept of sharing and swaping when there is abundance.
@@Bush_Edge_Homesteading_Aus So do I!! It’s such a great idea.
I wish there was something around here like that.
