      Nah, Intel just failed with LGA1700, not really fault of retention system which worked fine for couple decades. They made it longer without addressing increased stress forces. What I have seen mechanical drawings, AM5 is even sturdier socket than earlier Intel sockets while having similar size. For example socket frame bolts through PCB into same backplate as cooler, backplate is tied down with 8 screws. IHS is also significantly thicker and pins cover whole socket, pressure is spread out evenly. AM5 is mechanically superior, AMD wasn't pinching pennies with it.

    I wish AMD kept the pins on the CPU cause my 2011 Asus Sabertooth P67 has most pins bottomed down and a few broken ones and I haven't touched a single one, was simply because of having the CPU very tight for many years. I don't think this problem would happen on the AMD side because the plastic cover most likely would never allow for the CPU pins to make that much pressure on the bottom socket pins like my old intel.
    Also it's much stronger to bent a CPU pin and put it in place than a motherboard pin, on mine the metal is so fatigue that if I just touch them they break and some were already broken below the CPU when I removed it while a lot are simply completely bottomed down but I have a Sabertooth Z77 anyway so don't care 🙂
    For last it's also much easier to solder a CPU pin back in place than a motherboard pin. I have already soldered 1 pin on my P67 a few years ago when I removed the CPU to fully clean 1 pin was already broken but by then the rest was still OK, it lost the latest 2 ram dim slots. I could solder it and got the ram slots working again, but was a HUGE pain in the ASS and I don't EVER want to solder a single more pin on any motherboard FFS...

    • @ppjerry420
      @ppjerry420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It makes more sense to place the fragile parts (pins) on the cheaper component (motherboard). This design choice by AMD is smart and practical. Having bent CPU pins is far worse than having bent motherboard pins, as for most people, their CPUs will be more expensive and harder to replace than the motherboard. Sure, you can bend the pins back into place but, 1) you might break it attempting to do so, and 2) bending it back into place doesn't guarantee it will work - there are some cases of CPUs that cease to function after having bent pins.

    • @guily6669
      @guily6669 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ppjerry420 The pins on the CPU are much more durable also harder to bend or break and you can get away with just a pin inserted on the motherboard, trial and error until it does the connection...
      I also have some AMD from like 2005 in my drawer for so many years banging on metal tools and so on and there were only a few slightly bent pins that I just moved to their proper position even though I will never use the CPU ever again :).
      I have managed to solder 1 pin on my old Sabertooth P67 and NEVER I want to do it again, also from all this time just with high pressure from the cooler, the board is totally ruined, after removing the CPU the last time, a lot are simply bottomed down and others broke under the CPU on pressure relief, I don't think AMD PGA would have this problems over time with tight coolers (my P67 was used for 11years on a damn super tight cooler that even came with a wrench tool, hard to measure strength).
      And Motherboards are getting super expensive + if you have a very good motherboard, I guess it would be easier for people to later upgrade CPU only than CPU+Motherboard unless it's really needed while there's thousands of piles of broken motherboards out there being sold as parts and most are simply LGA pins broken or lots of bent pins...

    • @ravell2854
      @ravell2854 ปีที่แล้ว

      well, they are targeted for the enthusiasts, they pay top dollar for extreme overclocking anyway so no serious issue as you think. If you are one of the casual gamers on a budget then you should wait for the 650 mobos by the end of the year.

      As our boi said... if you know how good a 22+2 phases at 110 amps is... then this is the mobo for you
      If you dont then obviously those mobos will seem as unjustified to your eyes. these kind of mobos are more than some pcie5 slots and M2s and wifi, real overclockers dont care at all for those features. In fact they want to get rid of those to lower the price.
