Man you are doing good work putting accessable terrain on TH-cam for those of us that have very little hobby funds so thank you from the bottom of my heart
I think you're right! And it also might work better given the corrugations in my cardboard are running vertically as well so it doesn't highlight them as much.
I was actually cruising for menhirs and cardboard trees when this video caught my eye. Took less than 2 minutes to like & subscribe. I love watching Wyloch and Black Magic, but getting a lot of what they use is tough in my small Mexican town. I even have to glue 2 layers of cardboard to get double corrugated most of the time. 😂 I'm off track! You've made elegant, affordable terrain from exactly the materials I can get easily. Encouraging ×100! Many thanks for keeping it real.
This is fantastic. It’s a lot of work but, if someone has more time than cash, this is definitely the way to go. Well done, Sir! When you got to the first application of paint with the black and then the off white, the results up to that point reminded me of some of the vitrified stone ruins you might find in Scotland and other north European sites. VERY cool!!!
I love that first drybrush to finish priming them, I will definitely look up some pictures of those ruins you mention. And honestly the amount of work really isn't that much, especially after you've made a couple. Once you have a bunch of bricks and stones cut out, the build stage on them probably takes less than 15 minutes to make a whole bunch. I definitely recommend doing them in batches
I can’t wait to see your channel blow up…only 1.6k subscribers. Unbelievable. You offer great content and so the growth of your channel is inevitable. Looking forward to your future content and thank you for your work! I now have terrain thanks to what you have posted!
Who knew cardboard terrain could look so awesome? I guess you did. 😀 I love the technique of using tissue for texture while hiding the corrugation edges. Awesome work. Thanks for sharing.
If you glue two sheets of cardboard before cutting your bricks you can give the chonkier look from XPS. Amazing and amazingly underrated video, as per usual.
That's an interesting idea! If you give it a try I'd love to see, and I may have to try it myself for something that could use a chonkier look like a big castle ruin
@@selrahcmoonandstar I did something else for my castle ruins because I didn't wanna wait for the glue to dry. I sandwiched a piece of cardboard in between layers of bricks. I really liked the chonk. Where can I send you the pictures, mate?
@@selrahcmoonandstar will dust off my Instagram account and do that. Gotta publish some fucking commissions anyways. Swear to god, I love being an indie artist, the social part of it is the bane of my existence, tho.
Great video, love your stuff. These ruins look great! I know you said you can't stand editing but this is very well edited. Looking forward to the next video. 😊
Love it! I usually make my terrain (and even my minis) out of literal trash, so I know the power of cardboard well-but the texture paper on it is a stroke of genius, and I'll be stealing that idea immediately.
Niceeeee I'm starting work on making some miniatures out of cardboard and paper too! Monsters especially, I think a cardboard dragon could be really fun and I have a friend who wants to try making one too
That'd be awesome! I want to see your cardboard dragon, if you do one. I have a few videos and shorts about trash-bashing minis and custom figures. Feel free to harvest any ideas you find useful!
You inspired me to make some terrain pieces using cardboard and TP. Thanks for sharing your art and techniques and for making the process even clearer in this video.
Fantastic video! You are the second terrain maker after Ravenstead that really clicks the idea of simple builds with simple materials and simple techniques yet goes with banger results. Subscribed!
Yes, on the final highlight you use vertical strokes, preferably downward, to simulate how sunlight tends to hit from Top down. It helps make the piece look a little more realistic.
Once again, you work wonders with corrugate, tp and paint. Great info on convincing arches, plus the multi-function of good old popsicle sticks. Thanks. btw, I work on that same cutting board (Every time we get new board, I get a new hand-me-down work surface). Thanks for the video. cheers from BC
Thank you for watching and for your comment! I'm really happy with how the window arches are turning out and plan to keep using the popsicle stick as a template in a lot of builds going forward
I love your cardboaqrd focus. I also do the vast majority of my terrain in cardboard. I've started on a cyberpunk project and am having a hard time getting a good concrete texture. I'm mostly fallen back on printing texture images on cardstock and cladding my builds with it, but it's a hassle and I'd love another option akin to using texture paper like you do for stone effects.
I haven't tried it yet but I bet the same texture paper (maybe with some fine dirt strategically applied) could work well for concrete too. The painting would probably make a big difference as well, like not painting it a uniform grey but different shades like how real concrete often ends up.
Also, have you tried contrast/speedpaint/washes instead of the acrylics paint? Seems like the black with white dry brush would lend itself well to those products.
I have not tried any of those aside from using a thinned down dark brown wash as a base shade on some projects, it worked really well because they were my rock and stone hills (video forthcoming). I bet it would work well with speed paints and would love to see someone try it and hear their thoughts
The bricks I use in this one are from a double corrugated cardboard (I think it was a banana box I got from the grocery store), but if single corrugated is all you have access to then it would still turn out great! Or if you wanted it to be chonkier you could always use two offset layers of bricks
I am shocked how expensive store bought stuff like this is. I just made like 30 trees from some sticks, sponges and hot glue. Cardboard bases with sand. Yeah it has been a lot of work, but it saved me probsbly hundreds of dollars and to ve honest, they almost look better than the professional store bought ones
Thank you! I've gotten better at recognizing it and these days whenever I'm having a manic episode I try to focus it on something good like cleaning or crafting

I followed this tutorial with my son - turned out so much better than I had expected. Thanks for the tips!
Vertical strokes might be to help simulate the natural lighting effect of an overhead sun?
I think you're right! And it also might work better given the corrugations in my cardboard are running vertically as well so it doesn't highlight them as much.

Right?! It's because there's a clear dwarf bias in the TH-cam crafting community. It's hard for an elf out there.
So true, it is hard for an elf out there but that means a lot to me to hear you say that! I would love to see any terrain you've made!
That intro, man 😅. Way too relatable
A bit too real haha
