Does the cardboard loss it shape or warp. Sometimes I find it swell etc?
Terrain even my broke a** can afford to make! Thank you! XD
Have you ever used flocking on these? I think I'm going to try that asap.
I followed this tutorial with my son - turned out so much better than I had expected. Thanks for the tips!
So I got some acrylic felt and attempted to make a kind of muddy look. Unfortunately, it turned out rather hideous. However, I made quite an important discovery about fabric battle mats after my mistake. They are WASHABLE. I think you'd need to avoid the mat finish as I didn't get around to that. I think if you avoid the mat finish, you could potentially have infinite designs on a fabric battle mat, including water features or maybe a bit of frost! I also think it could be interesting to make a modern or future city style battle mat out of grey felt. Roads would be a lot trickier, some experimenting with tape might be a good idea.
Thanks for the upload! Your 'wood texture' on carboard is a great idea.. and in my many years of making scenery, it's one that ive never though of. So i'm now trying it on Graphix Medium Chipboard (thick carboard) which is the same thickness as coffee stirrers, which works great and much easier to cut and shape etc. 👍
Only recently found your wonderful channel. Lots of inspiring stuff. I'm glad to hear you're doing better personally Selrahc, your perspective on crafting has been a great breathe of fresh air and its really inspired me and my friends to get more crafting done for our games. Stay strong friend
Depending on your diet, the texture paper could even come pre-textured!
I like the composition of your pieces and your use of graphics medium chipboard. :)
Another set of great ideas just when I need them. I'm running a 5e homebrew (written by Monty Martin and Kelly McLaughlin, published by Ghostfire games) set in a ruined city destroyed by a magic meteor, so all the Mordheim inspired terrain helps me a whole lot. I've got a question. Your builds have a wonderful scorched, sooty look. How are you doing that? It looks amazing!
Wow! If more people were as open as you have been in this video, there would be fewer mentally ill people trying to hide the misery they live with and reaching out for help. Fellow life-long bipolar person here. Not properly diagnosed and treated until I was nearly 50. It's a long, hard road, but hang in there. Reach out. (Yes, I know that's really hard.) Ive been fighting the down slope on the rollercoaster lately. But, like you, the hobby has been a lifeline. Making terrain, learning how to be a good DM, playing D&D. This is my connection to the word. Bless you for putting yourself out there. And please do your mental health series. Your honesty is refreshing!
2nd of your videos that I really need right now - old druid temple. Hoping that scanning your channel will find me some foliage.
I was actually cruising for menhirs and cardboard trees when this video caught my eye. Took less than 2 minutes to like & subscribe. I love watching Wyloch and Black Magic, but getting a lot of what they use is tough in my small Mexican town. I even have to glue 2 layers of cardboard to get double corrugated most of the time. 😂 I'm off track! You've made elegant, affordable terrain from exactly the materials I can get easily. Encouraging ×100! Many thanks for keeping it real.
You’ve discovered something unique, I’ve watched loads of videos and you are the only one I’ve found with this method. Brilliant. Thank you for sharing, can’t wait to try it! (You inspired me to save some tissue paper someone was going to throw away from a gift and I can’t wait to use it for walls!)
I love that you have discovered these methods and share them with all. You are kind. I wish you the best!
Nice work
Wood.. Textured.. Card stock? Why have I never heard of this before?!
I have oathmark elf infantry and elf cavalry minis I'm planning on using for a silmarillion-themed army (early Middle-Earth history). They're also made by north star, and have a lot of the strengths you've described. I'm really looking forward to using them.
Not quite on topic of this video, but you can get airdry clay in my local dollar stores for $2 Can/lb. So if you want to work with clay for modeling, it can be done very cheaply. I like to mix mine 2/3 clay to 1/3 plasticine - it's less brittle that way. I use it for bases and terrain, but you could probably use it for making largish or less detailed miniatures too. I don't think it would work well for gapfilling. Without plasticine it shrinks a bit and tends to crack when smeared over cardboard to hide the edges, but I haven't tried that particular thing with the plasticine amended stuff yet.
Ah, so this is how you do it! Nice. I want to try this.
where are you finding your cardstock? It looks thicker and nicer than cereal box material I tend to use.
Nice attention to details, beautiful and realistic furniture/treasure chests!
Your technique for stone with glue and paper combine perfectly with corrugated cardboard to make fantastic modern ruins. I often make and donate them to my local game store, and it's a great feeling to see them as centerpieces in tournament boards. Thank you
I have such a love/hate relationship with your content. I love how creative and resourceful you are, but I hate that I no longer have the excuse of not having supplies to make stuff 😅. Great work as always!
I love it. Nice work! 🤙
Love this, very well made stuff, and the words of encouragement are great. I'm just sorry I didn't see the video until the day after you put it up.
just discovered your chanel today with that video, and trying to understand how to get wood textured cardboard I browsed you other videos. Your approach to make terrains is really original and I like how you present it. Simple, straight to the point. You really amaze me with what you build with such low-budget materials. Congrats !
I made a video about it last year called Terrain Techniques - Wood Texture Cardstock! If you check my videos and sort by “popular” or “most viewed” it should be one of the first few ones! BUT BASICALLY, you get some cardstock like from a cereal box or other food packaging Then scratch it with a not too sharp knife until you’re happy with how it looks
🔥🤘❤️ love the work
I’m not a perfectionist either, and that’s what I appreciates about you
Your videos have been so helpful! I'm starting a game of Curse of Strahd and I've been making of ton of black&white walls and such to help the ambiance of the fights. I'm really looking forward to making some tables/chests to plop down on maps too. I really appreciate your vibe, you're like the Bob Ross of cardboard.
These turned out great! I have been looking for some tutorials for inspiration on creating some modern style furniture terrain for Zombicide! I like the "Chaotic" approach to building comment too. Totally Relatable!
I dig crafting terrain to the chill island/surfer vibes 🤙
check out Black Magic Crafts here on TH-cam. He just did a MASSIVE building and in the prosses learned a new way to do would with a wire brush at the end that gives it the grain, depth and highlight after painting and doing a wash to the real wood. I am learning SO much.
Have you ever tried making cloth from stripping paper off corrugated cardboard I think it could work people use new paper from craft stores the only difference is it would be recycled
That works great. Have done it many times. And if you only peel one side it makes log cabins & corrugated metal roofs.
Love the details!
Where do you buy double sided wood textured cardstock? You vid is confusing so I stop watching, but I will reframe from a thumbs down. th-cam.com/video/lJMiih_8qcg/w-d-xo.html
He makes it. It was in a previous video.
very cool.
Can't believe how good these look. The chests look like something out of Kingdoms of Amalur. Very fanciful.
Really great stuff, definitely want to incorporate bookshelf ladders into a few buildings. I might make some of the tables from a mix of stir stick and card for the metal bits but that’s just because I already have the best part of 1000 stir sticks from before I knew the power of paper 😂
I've been making a lot of things I see in your videos. Another great one, by the way. Anyway, this was the first one I've seen to show fire damage on wood. Nice techniques.
These are awesome! You can mix your brown with black and whites at different variants to get darker and lighter browns. You can use this to create grain textures into the wood. Handy if you don't have wood stock card. A yellow wash can add further detail
This is very helpful. The comments about not being overly concerned about perfection and scale were good to hear.
How about some books for the book case?
The shelves and tables remind me of Skyrim and now I want to make a Skyrim scenery thing
Great content as always, thank you 👌
Thank you for watching! I appreciate you saying that
Nice work
Thank you!
Awesome video. Loved the longer format.
Thank you! I liked the longer format as well, I was worried I wouldn't have much of anything to say, but I think it worked well
