I think this is one of the darkest and most disturbing stories you’ve shared. This time it’s not the violence, or criminal intent, it’s the extreme negligence and total lack of empathy. You did a fantastic job humanizing Greg and sharing his unfortunate story.
Yes, it is so disturbing how she valued the irresponsibility of her lifestyle way more than her obligation to her gross mistakes, the suffering she would cause that man, and even his very existence. =(

Its almost unbelievable. It's one of those stories that you hear and kind of laugh and think "yeah, ok. That really happened".....but it did. It's insane. How can someone think letting someone die is better than spending a couple years I'm jail if she would have even gotten that much?
@@lostineggsaisle I was wondering that, what her sentence would have been if she'd if she'd got him help and owned up. She would still have faced criminal charges but he would still be alive.
The scariest thing is that someone with this little intelligence and compassion could work in the medical field.
I wonder how many she let her patient die and just say sorry.
They know there's money in the medical field. That's the only reason the majority of them are there. Sad but true.

Nurses aids have one of the most difficult and underpaid jobs. As a nurse, I know they have to take a short course to become certified. They aren't allowed to dispense medication in the hospital. This girl is just cruel

The fact that this woman worked in healthcare is beyond frightening.
Nurses, and doctors need to pass a rigorous psych exam. If they fail, that is it, find another profession. Same with cops but they allow psychos onboard.

Harold Shipman, M.D. was a British G.P. - it's estimated that he killed well over 200 people, while in practice.
Anyone else applying for a position in healthcare (with strong, narcissistic tendencies - and that's not a doctor or a nurse...), will simply fly under the radar.

What a tragic case. Poor Greg did not deserve to die in such a horrific manner. Shame on all involved who did zero to help him.
To be fair, he was dead by the time the two guys were there and there was nothing they could do. Though instead of doing the right thing to call the police, they made the dumbest possible decision of aiding them to get rid of the body (and in an equally dumb method).

I agree. T-Fry (however that's spelled) is just as guilty for doing nothing and *LETTING* Greg die so horribly. The fact that she was given full immunity sickens me, because she is NOT a saint in this story. She's cut from the same cloth as her friend, she should at least see some jail time.
@alecdickens1042 That's a stretch. Active evil is always worse and more pure evil than doing nothing to stop evil. Saying otherwise is just a meme. It's used in larger political contexts to shame and peer pressure people into choosing sides, especially when they don't have enough information. It's part of the cultural force that is polarizing everyone to the level of the individual. Just like religion in the Middle Ages, and just like totalitarian Stalinism, this is part of the ideology that controls not only people's behavior but even their thoughts. It's a tactic of control-though-shame they exercise not just publicly but also privately. You've been so easily convinced that this is correct, that you willingly go out of your way to spread their evil, actively. Side note, this active evil isn't as bad as others, since you and half the country are not even capable of recognizing that you're actively spreading that evil. You're just hopped up on the usual feel-good self-righteous patterns as every other kid, while doing nothing bra,e and certainly nothing good, for something outside of your own dopamine reward system.
Thank you for giving Greg Biggs a voice by telling his story. He might have died alone, but so many of us who hear his story and grieve for him.

She didn't have a second of empathy for the guy dying and pleading for help next to her but she cries when she gets sentenced? Yeah, nah, she should rot in prison.
She cared more about getting possibly a DUI. Ridiculous.
A number of people cry when they’re sentenced because it finally clicked with them that they can’t get out of the mess they made and they’re going to have to face serious consequences. For instance, there are a number of videos in which someone in their teens or twenties breaks down when sentenced because it’s finally clicked with them that Mommy & Daddy can’t save them from this and they will actually be facing punishment for their actions (or neglect in some cases). When the judge reads the sentence and bangs that gavel, a lot of entitled people realize their parents/spouses/associates, sweet-talking, pleading, threats, etc. won’t save them; they’re not special, and not only will they have to face punishment for the first time in however long, but the punishment will be real, lengthy, and definite. I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m making light of this or trying to attack people’s psychological distress because it’s certainly not my intention, but I wonder how many of the prisoners who make self-harm attempts are the same ones who proclaimed, “I won’t spend one day in jail!” or, “Even if I do go to jail, I’ll be running the place!” and then learned that wasn’t the case.
@@karaoconnoraliasraidra Yeah, I spent 6 months in jail. It does take a day or two for the reality that your freedom is gone to set in. I always enjoy the videos of teens disrespecting judges. They find out fast that's one of the worst things you can do. I had to go before the judge to get off probation. Hell, I was scared to talk when he was asking me questions. I didn't want to accidentally upset the person who has control of my freedom. lol
Also I know the kind of person your talking about saying, "I’ll be running the place!” They're the loud mouth trying to put on a show, while hoping no one calls their bluff. In the jail I was in 95% of the fights were because of the TV remote. Someone in the pod would think they were gonna in control of the tv, instead of a vote on watch to watch. Eventually someone would get feed up and tell them to getting in the cut. where the cameras can see them. Seems like most would either not get in the cut and the few would did got their ass kicked.
The other 5% of fighting were from ppl accused of cheating at Spades...
@@fukkitful Oh, interesting! Thank you for the perspective. I remember an associate of mine saying he had to show up for a speeding ticket, and he was so nervous in front of the judge that all he could say was, "Yes, sir. No, sir. Thank you, sir." I guess the people who think disrespecting the judge will go well are so used to not getting repercussions for being a rude twerp they've become deluded, and those people eventually learn some very harsh lessons.
Have you ever seen the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Joker's Wild"? It began and ended with a dispute over the TV remote among inmates at Arkham Asylum (Poison Ivy: "Hey, I was watching that!" The Joker: "And now you're watching *this*!"). I had no idea that this was a main source of conflict in real life. 😲The people who think they're intimidating remind me of the preview for The New Guy (2002 film) in which the guy at the prison instructs, "You got to give 'em the crazy eyes!" and it cuts to people being scared of his crazy eyes. It then shows the protagonist trying to give someone at the cafeteria the crazy eyes and having someone throw food at him.

I would've immediately snitched just for the fact that a "friend" cared so little about me that they'd invite me over, without my knowledge of their crime, forcing me to be involved. At that point, our friendship is over and I'm strictly looking out for myself, and maybe even saving a life as well.

She’s a true monster. Just unbelievably awful. It terrifies me to my core that someone could put someone through that and then be back to partying a couple days later like nothing happened. 50 years seems to light of a punishment.
might seem light but the bulk of her life would be taken from her, she would go out as an elderly.. of course it would be good if it was a life time, though usually a life time punishment would indicate an intent to cause bodily harm though what she did in respond to what happened is not excusable.. she was most probably worried about being incriminated for her use of alcohol and substances which led to the accident.. being in the medical field myself, i could never forgive myself if such a thing happened.. honestly i would have just called an ambulance and receive whatever repercussion i should be receiving.. because it would be going against my oath to society (hippocratic oath) and the punishment would have been much lighter.. though with that said, i would never drunk drive, with my family in the medical field as well as constantly being upset with those who do unnecessary damage especially like drunk driving that takes the life of another unnecessarily.. and its always young people who makes this kind of silly mistakes.. though if it was my family member who died due to such circumstances, i would like justice.. and at the same time its usually someone young getting implicated.. its just a horrible situation all around.. just dont drive under the influence.. parents and society need to push and get this inculcated/implemented amongst our youth, dont drive under the infuence!!

The person who ultimately turned Chante in was a girl who didn't like her and sought revenge. Nobody along the way cared about the actual victim, just "what about me?" how sad

I would have charged her as an accessory and not given her a chance to bargain with the court. There is enough physical evidence to prosecute and witnesses to obtain testimony from to prosecute them all successfully.

She walked into the situation blindly and even offered to trail behind chante to make sure she got home safely, she IS guilty of not getting him help though. Her first reaction was to scream at chante to call the police or ambulance. She should’ve have swayed from that.

Life's a bitch and then you die.. Growing up I had alot of friends and a family I thought loved me.. Long story short, my mom and step dad abandoned me and I moved in with my dad who started mentally abusing me for being depressed and not being able to function. Alot of people got offended that I would isolate and never reach out. Had a best friend of mine try to hook up with my girlfriend, found out my girlfriend was perusing a relationship with a married military man. None of my family ever reached out to me after I stopped coming around. Gave my life to Christ, met Christians who were more wicked than my atheist friends of the past haha. I onoy have two or three people I associate with in any capacity.. I had to learn that people are evil the hard way.. I rarely go out for any reason

Last time I heard someone equating death with no more suffering it was my sister who was on the verge of committing suicide. Please don't romanticize death. It's no more suffering, but it's also no more happiness, no more love, no more joy. It's no more nothing.

I was a Greg some years ago. My friends went out west to start families and careers after high school and I felt a bit alone.
I remember seeing this on the news. We really need to start holding our medical professionals to higher standards.

After watching this, I look it up, and almost everywhere says things like : "Mallard, then 25 years old, hit the homeless Biggs with her vehicle."
Describing Gregg, only as a homeless man, no description on him as a person. but of course - lots of information on Chante !?
Mr Ballen, however , describes Gregg's character so well that I almost forgot he was even a homeless man , the description of his optimism and good nature just shined through and became the core representation of him.

The way that man died has got to be one of the worst ways a human death can go down. Alone in a pitch dark garage, hurt badly, in agonizing pain, and knowing that you've been left for dead while hearing people mill about other parts of the home. I would have less contempt for Chante if Greg had been killed on impact, as bad as it would still be. Putting him through that is unforgivable IMO Greg's son Brandon is a better man than me I guess.

The amount of pain you see in MrBallen's face and voice while telling this particular story made me feel differently about poor Greg. Typically I can feel empathy or sympathy for the victims, but Greg's story LITERALLY broke my ❤️. 😢 R.I.P Greg Biggs 🙏
As an RN and a mother .. this caregiver, letting a man die like that is horrific. Any individual that did that or similar to my child … would be forgiven, after they suffered the same. That would be my peace and my moment of insanity. People say revenge doesn’t solve anything but it certainly would if you are a parent that has nothing left to lose.

Now, aside from this psychopath people need to think about society's fault in this in general. Specifically American society. He did mention in the beginning that Greg would be able to find friends but they would flake on him so he was even more responsive to others next time around. Now, as an immigrant living in America for a while now, I can definitely say there's a trend or a way that Americans interact with each other and treat others. I'm not going to sugar coat and be completely honest. Americans from my experience of course are generally flaky, insincere, and self absorbed. The amount of flakiness, not following up what they say they are going to do and just general disregard for others people feelings is staggering. I've heard that from other immigrants as well. There is a trend. So, the situation with this man was set up by your own society, not first hand, by definitely second-handly. Not sure how much of this will get through their heads.

I remember this case. I was astounded at the complete lack of empathy involved. She just plain didn't want to get in trouble for drunk driving, so instead, she'll spend the bulk of her adult life in prison.

I remember this in the news. Seems like he was alive for a couple days. I recall during thr trial Shante screwed her boyfriend, and afterwards she went into the garage to apologize to Greg because she knew that he heard them.

@@Impostor39890 I mean the guy who kept in contact with his son even though, as stated, he had mental health issues. I have worked in mental health my entire career and it is an extremely difficult life and he stayed connected to his son. An admirable quality in my opinion.

I do agree that at the point where he obsession with the cow was destabilising his son's life he owed it to him to smarten up, though. He got done dirty, but he owed his kid better.
Chante is straight evil. The fact that she had all of these resources, and even being medically trained to save people, is disgusting. I bet she would’ve gotten a suspended license and a few months in jail or something just by getting him help. Smh RIP to Greg.

I live in Dallas and remember when this happened. Up until now, I believed what the news portrayed. They portrayed him as being some homeless bum. Sometimes we forget that people are all worthy of our love, compassion and respect. Thank you for sorting it out and showing his side.
The media really misrepresented the whole story. Even now, if you google this story, you mostly get inaccurate reporting. It’s a shame.

Nature, society, outside influences, free will, personality traits, learned and acquired behaviors from outside influences and life events determine a large part of what someone's kids will turn out to be. All parents can do is love them and support them, and when they break your heart, you love them and support them even harder. That's what family does, the love each other and cause pain to each other. We often hurt those we care about the most when we're in pain because we know that they will forgive us and continue to love us. Family is a very intricate paradigm with constantly evolving dynamics

I can see the shock and panic she must have felt, but her capacity to ignore the pleas of that man is beyond cruel. Even if I could have gotten in serious trouble, I still would do whatever I had to do to get help for the man. I couldn’t live with myself knowing his death was my fault.
I can't express enough appreciation for Mr Ballen introducing Greg Biggs as a father who ended up in tough times due to people exploiting his kindness but despite those hardships, he was eager to fix his life as much as possible just so he can spend more time with his son, as opposed to be just a homeless person who became a "plot point" subject to a manslaughter incident.
100%! That is one of the reasons I think Mr. Ballen is probably one of the greatest story tellers on TH-cam. Little to no corner cutting with research and is always honoring and respectful of the people affected - not glorifying a murder case.

The moment anyone drives under the influence, any sympathy for them goes out of the window. No one gives a shit about them endangering their own lives but they're a danger to others too. They should pass down some legislation that automatically gives the maximum punishment for anyone who kills someone while driving under the influence.

Poor Greg, struggling with life in general but feeling optimistic, then he crossed paths with this woman.
Her lack of empathy is horrific. Unimaginable. She and her friend shut the garage door and went elsewhere to sleep.
It is possible to feel both remorse and an extreme sense of self preservation (which is kinda important to anything that lives) which can make someone both regret what has happened and not want to then effectively end their own life by ending up in prison

I was living in Dallas at the time this crime happened. It was a HUGE story in the DFW area, but there was little mention in the national press. Sadly, one angle the defense (and the media) played at the start was that she was this confused "saintly nurse" while the victim was just a bum whose life was not worth anything, sort of a Healer versus Homeless-the story didn't fly in the courtroom. He was a hardworking decent man who trusted the wrong people in his life; all he wanted was to keep working and improve his life. Such a sad story, all-around. I feel sorry for her family, and for that son to testify his forgiveness proves his dad did leave a positive legacy in this world. Don't do drugs, y'all-when the fun wears off, the outcomes will not be a success. (PS This story was the basis of an episode on the TV show CSI years ago; it was chilling to watch and to know it was true.)
I would have hated to have been her defence lawyer, duty-bound to make her seem innocent and vilifying the dead man
I remember that episode and thought that there was no way someone would do that. The real story is so much worse than the made-up version because the real victim was such a good guy on bad times trying to turn his life around. I think the made-up victim tried to commit suicide by vehicle.

The common theme of the murderers just living their life normally after taking someone's life is chilling.
It's not just that Chante did nothing to help this poor man, it's that NONE of the people involved helped him. That's horrendous! But what Greg's son said at the end brought me to tears. He is a bigger person than I am.
you can heal if you forgive if you hold the pain in it only hurts longer and you can't go on...that's why its sometimes a blessing because you can come to peace faster...sad story rip

It’s better to except what is not right or fair... holding onto anger and hate is a lot more destructive and it took me half my life to figure that out.
The thing that gets me the most is not only the chain of negligence... but the fact that both of the girls would have the basic knowledge to have helped him themselves and not just leave him there to suffer.

However our body and mind are amazing as we can heal from both visible wounds and traumatic events, it just all takes its time. Trauma, memories and the scars that's been caused by those we trusted never fully go away but we can learn to live with them by finding happiness again and making sure that nobody will hurt us again. If you are hurting, find self love, put your self first, do things that make you happy, find new hobbies and always eliminate people that don't have good intensions. You can do it, you matter and you are amazing...don't let anybody tell you different. Trust me I've been there

I agree. It makes no sense to give her immunity when she could've easily called the cops on Chante immediately. She ratted her friend out regardless, but at least she would have been somewhat of a decent human being. She should be in prison as well.
Totally agree. The two men became involved AFTER Greg was dead and received 9 and 10 year sentences. So... One of the two people who could have saved Greg's life walk away scot free. I guess gender does have privilege.

The pure selfishness of it all. She would rather let a man slowly die in agony than to call for medical assistance. She chose to kill him to avoid the risk of identifying herself. The irony is, if she had’ve just done the right thing, he would have survived and she would never have been charged for murder - at the most she would’ve been given manslaughter. Instead, a man is dead and multiple families have been affected.

It was a husband and wife. The young woman was a neighbor from another state they used to live in and they actually treated her like a grandchild. She shacked up with this piece of garbage and he brought out her garbage side even more. If I remember correctly, the husband had told other people that he got a bad vibe from the guy. The older couple heard movement downstairs, at night, from their office and found some checks missing (they let the younger couple stay a few nights with them). I believe the swine got a third person to help them kidnap the elders, steal their money and take them out to the woods at night. They were buried while they were still alive. The most horrific part for me was reading the medical examiner’s report and the amount of dirt that was in both of their mouths, throats and even lungs. When investigators recovered the bodies, I can’t remember if they were holding hands or cradled together. I do know that it was a hauntingly sweet gesture that showed their love and devotion to one another and the overwhelming need for them to comfort each other at the end. Those killers are pure garbage, not even human.

Absolutely not, a nursing assistant vs a registered nurse is apple and oranges. Nursing assistance take a 6 week course. Registered Nurses (RN) have bachelors degrees in nursing attend college/university for 4 years, and those who have an associate degree in nursing go to college/community college for 2 years. Then all nurses are required to pass a state board of nursing to obtain their license to practice nursing in their perspective states. There are also licensed practical nurse (LPN)/licensed vocational nurses (LVN) who attend a community college for 12-18 months and who also must pass a state board examine. A LPN/LVN scope of practice is limited compared to that of a RN. Because of that limited scope of practice, most hospitals in my state do not hire them very often. A nursing assistant assist the nurses and performs most of the unskilled patient care such as taking vital signs, baths, bed making, transport of patients. The women discussed in this video who shamefully hit this man, leaving him in her windshield to die was a nursing assistant and regardless to anyone’s occupation or education level, we all are human beings and should care for one another. I only attempted to point out the marked differences in education preparation , training and scope of practice. A nurse is no more of a doctor just as a nursing assistant is in no way a registered nurse or a licensed vocational nurse, but they all are in the business of taking care of people.
