      FYI - I figured out on my own to lean my torso forward slightly - for the criss cross only. If you look at others, many recommend it for crisscross.

    Finally got this today. After learning the side swipe the rope motion made way more sense (it's a side swipe except you 'step through'). Also, I found it helpful to lengthen my rope as I have a big gut in the way of my arms and the extra ballast on the rope helped keep control of the swing.

    • @JumpRopeDudes
      @JumpRopeDudes  ปีที่แล้ว

      yup. a little extra length can help when you are learning new tricks. Now dial it in and keep those hands close to your sides. This will help you speed it up.

    I recently joined the Crossrope community at the onset of COVID and am having a blast. After about a month I felt like it was time to switch things up and attempt to learn a few "fancy" tricks, shake things up a little! First off, I cant believe how hard this is, I get sooo frustrated! Second, my poor thighs were whipped into submission. I was about to get give up entirely when I stumbled across your video. Game changer! The slow motion is everything! Thank you for taking the time to share your skills and for producing such a great video. Respect!

    • @JumpRopeDudes

      So happy you found this tutorial!! Be sure to follow us over on Instagram as well as we'll be posting more slow motion videos so you can really see the tricks/footwork we're doing!

  • @TheMerryPup
    @TheMerryPup 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I would also suggest 2 additional things: 1) Limit practice time for new skill to 5 - 10 minutes (so you don't get frustrated). Before your main workout so you're fresh. 2) If you can't afford Crossropes yet try a beaded rope. The added weight makes the loops more stable and you're less likely to miss.

    The biggest point that got my criss cross down and smooth was:
    1. Thunmbs planted and pointed on the handle( not wrapped around my fingers) and
    2. Turn my wrists over as I do the figure 8's (inside of my wrists up when I pull the rope open and inside of my wrists down as you cross them over.
    For me, these really clinched my criss cross!

    I've been able to do a few here and there but not consistently. The one thing I finally tweeked was I decided to start crossing my left over my right (I'm right handed) Don't know why but that made a huge difference. Now I have been able to do them nonstop. Granted I'm bouncing four times and crossing at the five, but it works. I'll start scaling down the amount of jumps over time before I cross. Thanks for all the tips. 🤘

    Due to shattering my left humerus over the summer, I haven’t been able to work out at all. Until a few weeks ago, my wrist and fingers were almost completely paralyzed due to damage to my radial nerve. I just got up the courage to jump rope as a means to ease me back into being active. I started off just doing 5 minutes a day and gradually increased my time. I can bare about 20-25 minutes right now and it’s been about 2.5 weeks almost. Believe it or not, i have spurted with regards to range of motion in my shoulder, elbow, and wrist since starting this jump rope journey. And my grip strength has increased by more than 5x. I’m still not able to move completely naturally. Symmetry is something I still struggle with. But I’m getting better everyday. Today I attempted criss cross and it was NOT easy. But after some practice, I was able to do about 5 IN A ROW! Not amazing. But I’ll take it!
    I’ve only just begun but I thought it would be nice to share how you’ve impacted me thus far. Thank you so much for being an inspiration!!

    Thanks JRD! Newbie to skipping - never got a criss cross ever until today after watching this! Got it within 30 minutes, just really excited to share. Tried it with the 1/2 lb rope to start with but kept whipping myself (it was starting to hurt!) so switched to 1/4 lb, did regular bounce and just felt the weight of the rope, almost doing it in slow mo, and key for me I think was to watch my wrists and the rope cross over as I did it. Just kept doing it until I got used to the motion. Still need to watch my wrists as I do it. Really freaking ecstatic right now :) Getting down more tricks is really gonna change skipping for me 🙌

    Took me forever to learn how to do this. I managed to get the hang of it by running in place first. I think it probably is easier to do that way starting out because the loop only has to cross under one foot at a time.

    • @Jump15official
      @Jump15official 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can relate with that. I mostly use alt. foot when doing crosses.

    • @lamchop7
      @lamchop7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely a much larger margin for error when doing running crosses- but it took me forever to get the timing down! For the longest time I could do criss crosses and running in place separately, but not together! But once I got the timing, I mess up much less when doing running crosses as opposed to regular bounce crosses.

    4 months ago i started jumping rope which was 2 months of jumping with the crossrope and i must say it‘s definetly worth the price. And jumping rope is such an underrated cardio segment in your training. Since then i don‘t want to run anymore and i‘m staying lean just with the Crossrope Jumprope. The best part of jumping rope is the satisfaction you get, when you learn new tricks and you get better day by day.

    I know, without analysis of my "style", the way I move, there won't be a good answer, but perhaps you have one.
    Swinging the rope backwards, Criss Cross is no problem, is fun, alternating the top hand, etc.
    Swignign the rope forward, Criss Cross are the horror. I seem to have problems to keep the rope under "tension".
    Any idea?

    Thanks 4 the amazing vid! Thanks to your video I was able to achieve this within a single day and can predictably do about thirty criss-crosses. It was so bad at the beginning I was tying myself up and taking slashes from the jump rope to my neck for nearly an hour. I even thought I might need safety glasses.

    Any tips for when the rope keeps hitting the back of your head after you've made the initial jump through the cross?

    • @JumpRopeDudes
      @JumpRopeDudes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      slow down. practice practice practice… your rope is hitting your head because it's too short... it's not TOO SHORT, but where ever you have your hands is wrong. you need to put them in place where the rope length won't be changed. follow?

    • @TheAndrewScandal
      @TheAndrewScandal 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JumpRopeDudes Thanks! Yeah I follow. Honestly I was just excited to have made the initial jump through the cross... One thing I noticed is that your arms don't even really go down, they seem to go more out to the side. I know, it's like teaching someone to drive stick... You can only describe it so much and then one day it just clicks... I guess when you flick it back around, you're sorting back-handing it over?... I guess I just gotta position it so I'm maintain tension on it... Thanks for the great video!

    Question! What cross rope would you recommend for learning to do the criss cross and side swipe? I use an older Rogue SR-1 short handle rope, and I'm proficient in high knees, butt kicks, run in place and double unders.

    Hi JRD, I decided to learn the criss-cross today and I managed to do it a couple of times (I was happy and smiling with joy) after I jumped higher and bent my shoulders forward, is that good? Or is it extending my arms past my hips and really crossing my arms directly in front of my belly? Maybe I should adjust my rope to be a little longer so I can skip more easily. I know it takes practice, after all, Rome wasn't built in a day. Thank you for your lessons (you taught me how to jump) and greetings from Bosnia :)
