    I'm in my 50's and trying to learn how to jump rope again for weight loss, and just got my Crossrope yesterday. Fortunately I appear to have remembered how to do the criss cross from my childhood. Even my husband was surprised and impressed!

    Genuinely one of the best online coaches I've ever seen. Super calm, great phrases to explain what you need to do, helps you to remember what sequence actions take place.

    This is by far the best tutorial on the crisscross. Suggestion to hug your body is a gem. But, even after a week of trying I'm only getting one in every now and then. It seems I have to wait just a little more before I jump. Otherwise, I'm landing on my feet and the rope hits it. This takes some serious coordination, I'm not born with it :(. I'll keep trying though.

    Dear Mr Hunt, thank you so much for this most excellent tutorial! Having been rehearsing the Criss-Cross for the past three days whilst on lock-down in the U I just changed from using my dominant (right) hand to my left. all my issues have gone! Now I can work on the speed. Many thanks again from a most grateful UK fan :-)

    Stumbled on your channel today and was very curious on what you were going to say about the criss cross. Well explained! Thank you! I never really had watched someone explained the process. It was just something to do growing up during recess time at school (in my time) and I’ve been jumping rope since grade two (I’m 56 F). Criss cross (single, double or triple) is my ultimate favourite, front and back with alternating foot. I can’t tell you how many people (young and young at heart) at the gym over the years who would come up and ask (or for some who are shy would just look and “stare”) how I do it. I was just glad to tell them my story. Thank you

    You are an excellent instructor. Not as hyped as some of the other youtubers. You've taught me the boxer step and the heel toe step. Working on criss-cross. I use jump rope for cardio/warm-up and the skills help to not get bored while jumping. What about a video aimed at combat sports footwork/hand-foot coordination?

    I have a 9ft speed rope and a slightly shorter weighted rope... Sometimes the speed rope is easier to do the criss cross because the extra length gives a wider margin of error, and then sometimes I feel better with the weighted rope because I can whip it into shape and control it better. But either way it's coming along :D

    • @adamcolbertmusic
      @adamcolbertmusic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fellas at Zen Dude Fitness said it's kind of like holstering a gun when you cross and drawing it when you uncross, and I find this imaginative tool to help feel into the physics of it. But then sometimes I bring my hands too close to my hips (like a gun holster), so you don't wanna take it too literally.

    • @adamcolbertmusic
      @adamcolbertmusic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anyway once you get a good feel for the rope, you can see the 3-dimensional figure-8 shape of where the rope is slicing through the air, and you keep awareness of the location and changing of that shape, and then hop through it. Or at least that's what I do when I get into the flow :D

    • @Crossrope
      @Crossrope  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      great to hear! Yeah that's why I recommended moderately weighted ropes for learning new skills

    I recently reached the milestone of doing 3 crossovers in a row (keeping arms crossed 3x in a row), and I'll do 3 basic bounce to 3 crossovers, back and forth, and I can keep this going for a good few rounds! I find that when I'm crossed over, the key to keeping the momentum going is to keep my body completely and evenly tensed up, that way it keeps me from getting "noodle arms" and losing the swing. And just as when throwing a punch in boxing, a strong foothold delivers power through the punch, so do I use the energy from the bounce to be transferred through my shoulders to "push down" on the jump rope handles to help whip the rope around, and fine tuning it with my wrists (actually this is what I do for regular bounce too).

      That's some great progress, Adam!

  • @Jelly-Mack

    Great tutorial. Would you recommend learning with a heavier rope as i have a 1lb rope and very light cheap ropes but they always seem to tangle up around my feet. The heavy rope however is tough due to the learning curve of stopping all the time. I have managed 2 crossovers though thx to your vid on my 1st day.
    Oh and i am amazed how slow you can do it under control.
