Max pro is the best combo you can get with 110 bucks. I’ve had it for 2.5 years and still works like a charm.

I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

Huntsville Alabama has been rough so far this year fishing. It will be nice for a few days, and then a storm comes through bringing in the cold front. I typically get a few good days of fishing every two weeks. Randomly today winds up to 24mph.... Not wanting to cast in that lol. What an absolute tank you caught. Largest I caught so far this yr was a little under 5lbs

This was my first baitcaster. Still use it from time to time. Its a good combo for the money and looks sick. Once you get into more expensive rods, this one seems much too stiff and heavy. But great for beginners with a low budget.

Might have to get a couple of those combos. I have a couple black max combos and they are ok. I just got the lews lzr pro combo and the drag on it sucks. I had a 3 lber pulling drag like crazy on it.

Btw the reason you was getting those light bites before you caught the 7lber is because that was a bedding area. They was just picking it up and moving it. That big girl looked full of eggs and hadn't spawned yet. Our Alabama weather has been strange and threw off some of the spawn this year lol

can you do a tutorial on how to cast a baitcaster without backlashing im a spinreel guy and i wanna get into baitcasters
Mine works fine except recently when I have slack and I try to give the handle a good slap to reel in slack sometimes it will rotate and make an awful click noise but when just reeling in normally and even catching fish it’s normal, just weird little mishaps

Wow I got to try the rod and reel before Larry 😂 personally I like it. My first abu Garcia combo, love it, but it feels so bulky compared to my lews speed spool combo. But it’s SOO smooth and I hardly ever backlash it. Definitely a combo I’d recommend to people who want to try baitcasters🤷♂️
