    I didn’t realize how much I had missed Lemont until I started watching these older videos.
    He didn’t have Dean’s charisma, but his knowledge overall on fish was comparable to Deans.
    You, Dean and Lemont sitting in a room talking fish would be pure gold!
    Love to all at the Coop!

    Such an old video but I’ve been hunting down all your goldfish videos because I’m goldfish obsessed. I think you should do more goldfish stuff this year (2019) 🙂. I feed repashy gold, repashy soilent Green, saki hilari, some North fin, brine shrimp, emerald green, blood worms, daphnia, and my goldfish love spinach, peas, and broccoli. Think I’ll try some cucumber bits tomorrow.

    This video demonstrates the reasons I subscribed to your channel. You are so thorough yet still realistic when it comes to fish keeping, while staying non bias. At least from what I can see. I've been keeping goldfish for 24 years and I'd say your info was very accurate and It even caused me to question all my fish food choices.

      Anthony's Outdoors Hi I hope you don't mind me asking but what is the largest tank you keep for a goldfish? Two years ago a carnival and a ping-pong ball brought us Bernard. He has grown huge. I'm told a goldfish will always outgrow the tank. Do you find that to be true? We need to move him out of the 10 gallon tank but we would like to be able to get a tank big enough that he can live his life in. I am understanding one fish equals 40 to 50 gallon tank. But will he grow too big for that tank? Just wondering what your opinion is. ❤️🌞

    I feed my goldfish depending on the water temperature/ season. The feed packages I buy normally last about a month. So, for example, in July and June when the temperature is usually 26+ I give colour-enhancing feed with 45% protein. In August when it's cooler and in January when the central heating is at maximum, making the temperature around 24-26 degrees, I give regular tropical feed with 40% protein. In May and September when the weather is cold, but the central heating isn't working, dropping the temperature below 22, I give fish food for herbivores with 30% protein. When the temperature is 22-24 degrees, I give regular goldfish feed with 35% protein.

    I feed a mixture of saki hikari, hikari lion head, hikari wheatgerm, frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, assorted veggies depending on what I have and nutrifin flakes (as filler to make my feeder work properly when I need to use it). This mixture seems to work well. My fish have grown quite larger and have started spawning a couples times each spring.

    My Oranda ate so much it was upside down but fighting so hard to right side up. I put it in a fry net with a large Anubis. It was able to take a break wedging itself between the leaf and net wall. It was smart because it stayed there. Next morning it pooped and I didn't feed it two days because I was concerned of muscle or internal damage. It's all healthy now buddy as cute as it is I'm not feeding it. Got it from King Discus in Tukwila. I look forward to seeing you guys in the Seattle area.

    My room temp here in Sarasota Florida is 78-ish... That's inside the house with central air conditioning... With a lid, light and a sponge filter or air stone(a lot of my tanks have no filter, only an air stone and tons of plants), my water Temps are 80-81... I have zero heaters running, there was 5 days this winter that I had to pull out a heater for my 125 in the garage... It houses my clown loach collection, the biggest 4 are at the 6" range... They're quite chunky...! Anyway, with my warm water Temps, goldfish have have done well for me, I have only purchased some feeder comets for an outdoor 900 gallon pond for duckweed consumption, but I have acquired a 4 pack of black moors and they stayed constantly un-well until I sold em to a local store... Another pair of some dumb looking "fancy" goldfish acquired from someone else with same results... I'm not really ever interested in any of the "fancies", I do kinda like the concerts though, since they can actually swim like a fish should...! Thanks for more free education though...! Keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...!

    Good info! I've had my FG for about 6 weeks so I'm still learning. I've been feeding mostly Repashy gel. I also tried making a homemade gel food out of broccoli, kale, canned pumpkin, canned salmon, garlic, paprika, probiotic. They loved it but I didn't add enough gelatin so it was very messy in the tank and I tossed it. I will be feeding more brine shrimp, bloodworms, and veggies now.

    Omg! I already love you guys for being so informative, but for me this video came at a perfect time. I’ve never had goldfish being a planted tank kind of grrrl, however I recently adopted a 4 year old male fantail goldfish that was living in a tiny half filled tank in a community college library. He just came home two days ago. Before bringing him home I purchased Omega One GF Flakes because I couldn’t find anything else. This information has been sooooo helpful to me. I’ve researched diets for fantail goldfish and was getting incredibly frustrated. Now I know what to feed and important things to look for. Thank you both so much!

    Just found this video as I've got a new Fancy Goldfish. I also wonder how much of the issue with floating foods is feeding pellets that are too big. I'm going with smaller pellets, hoping that might mitigate/prevent the issue in my new Goldfish. Trying to figure out what to feed. It's a little more confusing for me as he's out in my tub pond and it will soon be Winter here in California. I'm doing my best to feed him properly for the season. I looked at a lot of koi and goldfish pond resources and they say a wheat germ based food is best for colder water temps, so that's what I'm going with. I've got Hikari Cichlid Excel and Hikari Goldfish Wheat Germ for now. I may try Omeag One Wheat Germ pellets too. I'll try to branch out with other foods in the Spring/Summer. So far, I'm concerned about sinking pellets dropping out of sight and getting lost in the substrate of my tub pond and not getting eaten.
    Many years ago I rescued some badly treated fancy goldfish. The Ryukin ended up with horrendous swim bladder issues from his prior neglect. I cured them all with homemade gel food, because Repashy didn't exist. My parents thought I was nuts, cooking for my goldfish, but everyone with thrilled and impressed when the fish stopped floating upside down. Veggie jar baby food and gelatin plus some blanched frozen peas. Eventually I got them on frozen Emerald Entree and they did really well. 😊

    i love seeing videos like this, i'm a pet nutritionist and care about every pet's nutrition whether it's a tetra or a great dane! personally my goldfish do really well on Omega One pellets, API algae pellets, and Repashy soi lent green, and i'm so with you on Aqueon being a shit food hahaha. i don't get the hype with New Life Spectrum, it doesn't appear to be a very high-quality product, considering it uses a few fillers as well as anonymous "fish meal", but hey to each his own

In the wild they are destructive. but i did not know brine shrimp were a laxative. do you know how long of a process it is to chuck peas lol I thought i knew a lot about goldfish but wow i was wrong. • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AQUA NUT Usually you'd just use frozen peas and when thawed, you'd just smush the pea insides out into the tank. As the shell itself isn't good for digestion.

    • @AQUANUT
      @AQUANUT 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah we make a batch at a time. That's what i meant by chucking the shell. We make up batches of our own home made fish food. our goldies love it. We use all fresh organic produce fresh Tilapia It lets us control what they are eating. Most people wont go that far though. But if you mix it in with quality food like we do im sure its a lot more healthy for them then flakes or pellets all of the time.

    • @AquariumCoop

      +Aquarium Co-Op Ah, I think Aquari-yum is out of business in the food industry though, and might have sold their gumdrops to San Fran Bay since they have the gum drops (the bubble looking brine shrimp) and their normal square packaging of frozen brine shrimp.
      If it was the gum drops type (bubble packaging) and they did sell their brine shrimp brand to San Fran, can I expect San Fran quality from the bubble ones?

    Cory do you know if frozen foods can still carry parasites which can come back to life and invade the pond or tank? Like parasite eggs that maybe dormant while frozen. What do you think? I want to be very careful about what goes into my pond and tanks when it comes to frozen foods. One of the other TH-camrs thought they could still get diseases from frozen foods but I don’t know for sure and if there is ANY chance of this.. maybe I will cook it before feeding it to the fish?

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, there is a chance this can happen. Far more likely that the pond being outside will run into animal droppings for parasites before frozen foods.

    • @graphicsforever2
      @graphicsforever2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know right! Ponds outdoors in the open get exposed to all kinds of bad things, mother nature takes over the life of the fish. My pond is an above ground pond in my large screened in room, it has roof coverage. I made it into a relaxing oasis with tropical plants and water fall built in. The roof and screen works well so no rain, bugs, birds or snakes get into it but it’s still outdoors. I do have to supply lighting to it and the plants though. I think I will cook the frozen foods for them LOL! that’s how paranoid I am LOL! over protected I guess LOL

    I know this is an older video, but I'm currently feeding my goldfish New Life Spectrum Thera A+ and Hikari Algae Wafers. I usually just throw in an algae wafer in for the day and New Life Spectrum twice a week. Thoughts? Suggestions? He's still a small fish (about 2 inches).

    I know this is an old video. I've had cichlids for over 10 years and I recently decided to start a goldfish project. What do you think about feeding goldfish algae wafers? (They're crap Wardley brand but I can't find a better brand in my town).

      I think you could find a better food, but goldfish will eat anything.

    Maybe using a food for tropheus would be up some people alleys

      +Rico Suave Sure, but in general I think tropheus are over fed which leads to bloat as opposed to them "needing" spirulina flake only. I've bred a few different strains of trophs and I always use the same pellets I'd feed mawali cichlids and never have run into bloat. I think the bloat stems from over feeding cause tropheus won't stop.

      i was trying to focus on high quality food with high quality ingredients that people would feed their wild caught tropheus so they have an alternative to the goldfish food thats lesser grade

      Sure, in general yes high quality food is high quality food. But a lot of troph guys also feed their tropheus HBH spirulina flake, which has been bought out and isn't the same quality it was etc.

      Have you done quarantine meds on it? Something like a deworming such as general cure?
