My Husband’s entire family live on Pine Island. All of the bridges are gone so there is no way off or on the island except by boat. A friend picked up my Mother and sister-in-law in his boat and got them off the island then we drove down from Charleston SC to get them. I am so grateful for all of the people that brought food, water and gas to help. Thank the Lord that everyone is ok physically. Thank you for your message of support. God is good!

@@Tammy121111 if you don't have flooding or wind damage just be grateful! Take a look at all of the devastation that Ian perpetrated over much of the Florida peninsula with millions of homeless people and well over 200 people dead.

Glad you all are safe from the storm. Excellent call on leaving the campground when you did. I drove that same route 2 weeks ago in our class C and that tunnel is tight! We would not have made that tunnel in our 38’ Class A. If you don’t already subscribe to Ryan Hall Y’all you should check him out. He has excellent coverage of the weather during all storms. We also have the Radar Omega App which is a great tool to have when your home is on wheels. Watching JJ broke my heart and Kensley warmed it 🥰. As Ryan Hall always say’s “Don’t be scared, be prepared”. When we bought our first motorhome I asked a friend who had a motorhome for his best advice. He told me “never get into a situation you can’t get out of”. I0 years later I still use his advice. I always scope out gas stations, Campground entrances and exits before arrival. When seconds count, having an escape plan is key. Safe Travels 😎

Hey guys, Glad you made it out and back safe. I have a friend and his family, fulltimers. Who were running from the storm and flooding in Ft Myers Florida. He and his family own a 5th wheel pulled by a dually and as they were leaving, driving on the highway, the water was so deep and was coming into the truck and the 5th wheel was floating off to one side. Luckily it only happened for a few hundred feet and the trailer tires finally hit bottom and lined back up. They made to higher dryer ground, driving all the way to Lake City Florida.. Good Luck and God Bless

Thank you for your support of Hurricane 🌀 Ian victims. We live in the Daytona Beach area that was hard hit by historic flooding and wind damage too! No where near the wiping out of barrier islands like Sanibel, Pine Island, Fort Myers Beach and much of SW Florida. We have many friends and relatives who have been profoundly impacted by the second deadliest Hurricane 🌀in the US behind Katrina.

Great video. Brought back memories of June 1998. My sister lives im Deland FL. We were down for her wedding. Wildfires everywhere. Driving down 95 and 4 with both sides of the road on fire. Had to run from 2 campgrounds and spend the night in a rest area on 4 near Orlando. I'll never forget the smoke.

I live in south Florida, on the SE coast. I was without power for 5 days and felt so fortunate that my house was standing. I’m a reptile keeper and a very good friend of mine has a reptile facility in Punta Gorda which got hit hard. The devastation there and Ft Myers is incredible. My neighbor and I just got back from Ft Myers. We took our travel trailers over with tools, phone chargers, infant supplies and MRE’s with us. I absolutely can’t sufficiently express how devastating the destruction is. I saw the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew and this is worse.

We have been in southern West Virginia camped by a mountain stream as Ian's remnants have brought us rain since Friday night. We live on the coast of NC and know the area you were in. We usually ride out hurricanes in our "stilts and sticks" but this was our first tropical system in the Airstream. Very thankful many came through this one safe and sound, but prayerful for all those who did not. Samaritan's Purse is already at work in SW Florida and is a great steward of donations for disaster relief.

I agree. A class C is very sketchy in high winds. If you’re not paying attention you’re in the next lane in a heart beat. I have a Lance travel trailer I tow with a Tacoma now. It’s not bad but if there’s a high wind warning I stay put. I spent two extra days in Grand Junction Co last April because of high wind warnings in Nebraska.

I can't imagine being on the road in an RV during a Hurricane/Tropical Storm. We were in it's path indirectly. It was a rain event and a wind event. Most people lost power for at least and hour. Glad you were able to avoid most of the terror associated with the storm. Having small children is always a concern maybe not so much as a safety issue but how they handle the stress situations emotionally. As adults we may not show the tempest that we feel inside. But living in NC as I do we know the potential for this time of year. You just have to plan. I just made sure that all my outside stuff was done Thursday and just hunkered down inside for Friday.

This is one reason for many that I like the idea of full-time RVing. I am from Northern California. I have watched too many close to me lose everything from the forest fires. So, I left Cali and moved to the South to realize it doesn't matter where you live there are going to be seasons where scary things happen. In an RV I can be in California in the Wintertime when it is cool and there are no fires. Then I can go north and east in the summer where it is cooler and less likely to have major fires. I can time my travels, but even if I get into a place and I see a hurricane forming on the coast of Africa, I can bugger out to safer grounds in advance. Oh, I am autistic, so I study any kind of science. It just fascinates me! Since moving to the South Hurricanes fascinate me. I have taught myself to read the weather maps and watch for the storms forming and growing in both the Caribbean and off the coast of Africa.

I can’t believe you all are heading to SC with the wind coming up the east coast! The effects are being felt as far north as the Jersey Shorelines. Yikes! The Holland Tunnel in NY goes underwater along with the Lincoln Tunnel and the Queens Midtown. It’s amazing to me (having been away from the east coast for quite some time and not from NY) that there are whole buildings used to house the ventilation system for them. The Brooklyn Battery Tunnel holds the record for being the longest continuous underwater vehicular tunnel and was built in 1950. Amazing testament to man’s ingenuity and have always been kinda scary for me but it wasn’t until about a year ago I realized I had claustrophobic tendencies. So there’s a history lesson for you. Kind of. Stay safe!! God bless and keep you in His care. Marissa you can have my share of Chik Fil-A.

Nathan, I felt your pain when you drove the Bay Bridge and Tunnel. It is very stressful. Glad you all are safe. I expect Hensley has a new pair of pink boots on order (that fit). JJ was stressed. It's contagious from parents to the kids. We got caught in a huge thunder and lighting storm when our daughter was about 3. We were in a campground in Yellowstone NP. We kept reassuring her that were knew we were safe and we should enjoy the storm (several times). Prayers to all impacted.

So glad you all made it safely! I live in North Carolina and we always prep for hurricanes although we live two hours from the ocean. My in-laws were flooded out during Hurricane Fran and they were an hour west- away from the ocean- from Greenville. It may have been the same river that you were parked near. They had to live in a FEMA trailer for 10 months.

I am so happy you guys are safe. My sister and her husband’s campground in Port Charlotte (Harbor Lakes) looked like a bomb went off. They were unable to get their camper out as they were home in Maryland. She got photos today of their camper and the fact it is still standing is a miracle. So many lost so much, we are just grateful they were not down there yet. Love you guys and you all made the right call. Safe travels.

@@LessJunkMoreJourney we returned from Port Charlotte after spending 8 days of clean up. Her camper was totaled but we were able to pack most of it out. Because we could not completely open her slides (fear of them falling out it the whole camper tipping over) some things were left behind. But, as tough as it was, her camper fared even better than many. We saw fifth wheels and class A’s on their roofs with windows all blown out. I just can’t even imagine. And that was just at Harbor Lakes. Thousands and thousands of Families have had their lives turned upside down. You guys witnessed this kind of disaster when the tornadoes ripped through Cookeville and Middle TN. I pray everyday for all those affected by these disasters ❤️❤️

Whoa I was shocked when you said that the Airstream was hard to control in wind. I was in a tropical storm with 60mph gusts going home in 2013 to Fort Myers from St. Augustine FL towing my recently purchased Airstream with a Curt hitch (no sway control) and it was straight on through it all- straight blows, side blows, etc. There was a box trailer en route that was blowing all over the road. Even semi truck trailers were running to the side with their rears in the left lane. It was bad. The wind just rolled over top the Airstream and I was not blown around towing with a half ton too. I had major headwinds at times that would drop my speed 20mph. After experiencing that, I said I would never want a box trailer.
