Very sad, i have 3 Avalon’s in my life time, the 2004, 2009 and currently have the 2020 Avalon Limited. Most people don’t understand how great and reliable the current Avalon model is. This is probably the best sedan on the market, sure it doesn’t have the power like the dodge but dodge will be never be reliable like this one.

Such a shame, the Avalon was always a great road tripper. I think Toyota finally scared off its loyal Avalon customers with the touchscreen, and those horrible tiny heating & ventilation control buttons. The Ford Taurus was no longer after 2019. It had the title of Car Of The Year one time. It was outselling Honda and Toyota sedans. Later, the Tauruses had issues, one being the transmission. The V6 Vulcan engines in them, were solid and durable. New cars are way too expensive today. We're paying for the technology they have now. It use to be if you had cruise control and a DVD player in the dash, you were a modern day driver, that had the modern luxuries. Not anymore. Today's New cars technology can be somewhat difficult to understand. The Avalon owners still have a good car. Even though it is being discontinued.

Just bought a 2023 Avalon from Hertz, had been looking to replace my 2003 with 256,000 miles on it. Apparently a Hertz renter did something to the front end, which wasn't visible or noticeable until I took it on the road. Problems! Knowing the build and longevity of this car, I knew something has really happened to it. Hertz went to fix the issue. The more I thought about it, the more I knew I would not ever be completely sold on this vehicle. Went back to Hertz, and they honored the 7 day buyback without any issues. I asked were they going to repair the car, and I got an honest answer, once repairs exceed a certain amount, Hertz does not repair or sell the vehicle, but it simply goes to the auction. Sad, I drove the car about 20 miles and it drove like a dream and that 301hp engine was a beast even in this heavy vehicle. So, I didn't get a new (used) Avalon. Hats off to Hertz for doing the right thing. I am saddened that a renter damaged this car to the point that it goes to auction. That Avalon deserves better than this! Thanks for the video. I am not 80, and I still enjoy traveling in a sedan that is dependable, and rides great. I guess I am much more into reliability than style or what the average American wants, currently a monster SUV or a huge truck that when you park beside it, it looks like a billboard, not a vehicle. Guess I have some sour grapes.

This is why I wish the ES never existed. It's a gross anomaly in the Lexus lineup that consumed the beastly GS and the "wise man's Lexus" Avalon.
They could've poured that Lexus tech into the Avalon and made bank from people who believe they're getting a bargain due to the Toyota badge on the front. That would've left the performance, handling, and higher-luxury-minded customers a RWD midsize sedan to call their own with the GS.
But NO, they just had to kill two potential golden gooses with the radioactive ugly duckling ES, and it's slowly killing the LS and IS too! How can Toyota possibly tout themselves as a "full-line automaker" in good faith without a full-size normal sedan and a mid-size luxury sedan? What a joke.
Kill the ES before it consumes all other sedans in its wake. Please.

You're exactly right. The writing was on the wall when in 2013 the ES and Avalon began sharing a platform, it was only a matter of time. Avalon could've gone all hybrid, like the Sienna has done. The price difference between the base Avalon and top trim ES justifies the price difference but Americans are so spendthrift that they believe paying for a name in the ES garners them a vastly superior product.

The interesting thing with my sitch was at the time we were shopping for a hybrid Camry, but didn't like anything on the lot at this one dealership, and we had other dealers to check out their stock. To keep us in the house, so to speak, the manager offered us an Avalon that had 3k miles on it for the same price as their Camry XLE hybrids. It was technically a loaner vehicle, but it was surprisingly loaded and in absolute mint condition, including brand new tires. We couldn't turn it down. And obviously no regrets at all.

Toyota put it on the road to its demise when they decided to try to make it a sports sedan. The 2012's were big and comfy inside and easy to see out of.
Also the pricing scheme made the car unattractive depending on how one configured it. It could be either too close to Camry - or ES in price.

I certainly won't replace it with a Charger. They are two entirely different vehicles. The Avalon has a smooth, quiet ride yet is competent in turns. I can drive long distances without physical fatigue, something I not been able to do in any car in the same price range. If Toyota thinks that the Camry is a good replacement, they don't ride in their own cars. I'm not likely to pay more for a Lexus when the extra features aren't important to me. Here's hoping another manufacturer starts making a true road car. BTW, my Avalon Hybrid averages over 40 mpg on regular gas. The Charger can't come close.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Stop making sedans and make every car a lift back. The conventional sedan with a trunk is outdated and nobody wants it. There isn’t one reason to choose a sedan over a lift back especially since you can keep the same body lines

Maybe it would've done better if it had a bigger grille.

I love my Avalon TRD. I’m 6’2” and 225 pounds and wanted something big and comfortable for real world driving that provided a bit more handling precision than my SUV. This car fit the bill perfectly. I was going to get the touring, both for the aesthetics and the Adaptive Variable Suspension. But I ultimately decided on the TRD trim. I know it’s subjective, but I think this car looks beautiful. Pictures do not do it justice! The tangential vents, and the aero kit is all fully functional; 0.27 coefficient of drag is better than average. Lowered 0.6 inches, thicker bracing underneath, stiffer springs, beefier breaks, makes this car an absolute pleasure to drive. Oh, and that Cat-Back exhaust sounds fantastic. I don't drive like a maniac, but if you need to drive aggressively, you can. This car handles so flat for such a large car. I have no problem getting up to speed in any situation with the reliable naturally aspirated V6. I can pretty much drive what I want, but I chose the Avalon TRD over the Lexus ES, and cost was not a factor in my decision; I paid cash. 2021 is the last year they will offer the TRD trim, so if you are thinking about getting one, jump on it, you won’t be sorry.

I'm three Avalons in ... 1995, 2003, and 2013. First one had bench seats and a column shifter. Current one (2013) looks and drives like new and has a dope Focal sound system. I'm a fan. My next car will probably be a 2019 ES.

I liked the 2005 version the best with the full size spare tire. Nice buttons, ride, engine, everything.

RIP Avalon. This was a model I had been coveting as my new car buy for at least two years now (I made up my mind after watching Joe Raiti review it haha). But then even I, a lifelong sedan simp, realized the practicality of an SUV/Crossover and now I’m more inclined to get a RAV4 or maybe now the 2022 NX.

I would always get a sleek sporty sedan over a crossover

Very sad, the end of an era in a great car. Makes sense though, as the ES is just few grand more for a far better car, much better dealer experience and a the cache of a luxury mark.
