    Wow great video.. so I’m thinking of pulling the oil filter housing when I do my timing belt in my ‘13 TDI CJAA sportwagen , I figure since I’m draining the coolant I’d tackle the thermostat and I was looking around for a way to pull that thermostat housing out especially since that crossover pipe is bolted to the block behind the oil filter this video has made it clear that I don’t need to deal with service position to pull the oil filter housing/cooler and thermostat. Great video you always have great details too.. keep the TDI videos coming 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

      @@wawayltd The video really helped. I did the cooler and housing replacement, ironically I only battled with the bottom dipstick plastic clamp. The head sheared in position, but other than that, all went well. What is amazing is the car is now running about 94 deg Celsius from previous was 105, which is 11 degrees cooler on the freeway.

      2015 1.6tdi should be very similar setup (if your engine number starts with "C"). Of course I can't say what exactly is wrong with your car or if oil cooler change will solve the problem, but if you oil temperature is always too high - there is a big chance that something is wrong with the cooler.

    Great Video Mate and excellent explanation. Can you help me please? I have a Skoda Octavia 2014 1.6 tdi its a Taxi and it has just over 200K miles. Basically as you mentioned in some comment also my coolant has turned into black/dark coolant. I just changed the expansion Tank recently and flushed the coolant properly and after a day or two i can feel the coolant is greasy. So that would suggest there is some oil in the expansion tank. I have researched allot about it but i think you know more than many people out there. Do you think i need to change oil cooler because of this problem? And other than that my car is loosing coolant very slowly so after doing like 1K miles i have to top up coolant so keeping that in consideration also do you think i need to change the oil cooler? Is definitely not the headgasket because the temperature is always 90 degrees ALWAYS and the car never over heats or anything like that. Please reply thank you so much. And another advice i need. Is it worth just changing the oil cooler or with the full housing ecc? And could you suggest me where to buy it if i am not in a hurry to get the oil cooler delivered. Thank you so much my friend

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for the nice words, but first of all, I must say - I'm not professional, so please don't take my advice too seriously.
      If you are getting oil in your coolant, think where they can meet. Probably, that would be oil cooler. Maybe there are some other places, but I don't know, as I said - I'm not professional.
      If you do need to change cooler, and if price is not too much different - I would go for together with the case.
      I had slow coolant leak in my 2016 Skoda. When some real professionals were doing some work on my EGR, DPF and turbo they pointed at leak somewhere inside EGR cooler. That's why tthe leak wasn't seen anywhere outside the engine. I got new unit, but it was still leaking somewhere, so I applied a little bottle of coolant leak stopper/sealant and it's not leaking anymore... but occasionally throws me an error about heater support pump.
      I think your engine has a different setup. Probably it's like the one on my Sharan (this video). Therefore, probably, not everything I said is applicable to your car.
      As for places - if you're not in a rush, try AutoDoc, or some independent local VW parts shop.
      Good luck 👍

    Two comments from me yay. So after getting under the car. I nootice that on the other side engine closest to firewall I have pool of oil splash everywhere. From side of oil pan cv axle side of the block and up. No oil on the pulleys or front of the engine. My oil consumption is about half quart every 5000 miles. Sorry American here, what do you think it could be? I'll do some more poking whenever it decides to stop raining but my oil consumption rate and my two leaks one by oil filter housing and opposite side don't match the amount of oil I am loosing. 2014 b7 tdi.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, common place to leak for these engines is from under rocker cover.
      Initially when I started having leak, I couldn't figure out, so just took it to a mechanic. He told me to sort out rocker cover seal first.
      For that job injectors had to come out, I don't have experience with them, didn't have much spare time either, so I bought seals - one that goes around and 4 around injectors and took it to some specialists...
      To my disappointment it was still oily. So then I decided to replace this oil filter housing and make a video. After this job, I cleaned up and run the engine for about half an hour - no leaks! Yay!
      Next day few oil drops under the car. Took it to the garage - similar situation as you described. I also can't figure out where it's coming from. Turbo seems to be happy. Maybe those guys that did rocker cover didn't do it well?
      I must say - I'm not as clever as I pretend to be in my videos 😁. So maybe I need to find time to take it somewhere who can point the problem.
      I'm sorry - lots of text and no valid answer. Just wanted to share what happens on my side.

The cap is brown, not alot but its brown. The oil is not brown. I have feeling this is where my coolant is going. When I drive the car I can smell it burning. I park the car while the part comes in. Hopefully its just the assembly and not blown head gasket.

    Hi mate, i have dark coloured coolant, i changed the coolant about 2k ago in miles, because it had gone dark in colour.
    As we all know, coolant is always bright in colour...
    Anyway, probably just over 2k miles on it's back to the same colour again. I'm thinking that the oil cooler is leaking vapours into the coolant through a seal that's blown somewhere in there?
    It's a 09' VW golf mk5 1.9tdi, I'm about to change the oil pump bearing shaft so I'm thinking get it done while I'm out there with my tool's out and in the zone.

      I have same problem with my Sharan - dark coolant. After replacing oil cooler, then I think I've replaced cambelt + water pump, still dark. Don't know what's causing it. I don't drive that Sharan much recently, otherwise I would dig deeper. Therefore, I don't think I can help you there, sorry. Maybe I didn't drain it properly and it keeps mixing.. As long as coolant doesn't get into oil - so far I'm ok. Would be nice to hear from you, if you find the reason.

      That can happen if you don't flush the heater core properly (dark coolant).
      But I know i did and the coolant did look nice and bright...
      So 2k later it's back to how it was, I do know that the oil cooler hasn't been changed since new, the car is 13 year's old, only on 106k miles but still, 13 year's will see rubber gaskets erode away.
      I'm positive that that is the problem, I'm sure i have a aluminium type heater exchange and oil filter housing type, so I'll buy a new heater exchange and oil cooler housing gasket, that should do the trick.
      Also I'm going to fit a new hex balance shaft bearing in the oil pump while I'm at it. Hopefully it'll sort the problem out.
      I checked the water pump is working, which it is, albeit weak looking but it is still working.
      Crazy to think, that the water pumps go before the timing belts do where my car is concerned, the belt was changed on 74k it's just over 30k in and looking like it's struggling.
      Oh well. Car's and the faff we go through.
      Thanks for the replies 💙👍

      Hi again, I meant the temperature gauge on the dashboard inside the car, if I turn heater off gauge goes up to 90 turn heater on and it cools down to 70 or 50 and only blows warm air not hot, I recently changed the thermostat I also did a vacuum refill on coolant to avoid airlocks, people say the heater control valve can cause this to happen, with temperature gauge going up and down rapidly, wondered if you experienced the same on your car

My heater control valve was also unresponsive I replaced that first it has like a little motor it was clogged I took the heater core out and flushed the hell out of it I was too cheap to buy a new one lots and lots of browny orangey crap came out before I put it back in I flushed the car 2 times with just water and more brown crap came out.
