that's why I'm going MacBook from now on. I got the Hp omen last year, 2.4k laptop. Fuck the battery life on this thing. My trackpad stopped working and they replaced it for a shitty one. I got burned by windows too much now to consider using this crap again.
Don't do it. I had one as my first gaming laptop and it wasn't worth it whatsoever. There are way better laptops for way lower prices -- ASUS, Clevo, MSI, even Razer.
For 1200 USD this is undeniably the best laptop you could possibly get at that price point. Alienware absolutely outdid themselves with this machine, bravo to them. In fact, all the new Alienware laptops with 10-series GPU's are very impressive.
Dan Cho except at that price, you only get an i5. to get an i7, it is going to cost you more than the 15 inch with an i7 (due to the 15 base having HDD and 8GB RAM vs SSD and 16GB RAM in the 13)
I own this laptop with the Core i7-7700HQ, and it fell about 3 feet onto carpet, and I ended up with a small scratch on the trackpad and another on the edge of the chassis. Not a showstopper but annoying...especially the scratch on the trackpad because I'm always running my finger over it. Maybe it's because the laptop was open when it fell. I'm wondering how complicated it would be to replace those parts.

I own this laptop (with the standard display, not OLED), and it's amazing. I'm sure it would be even better with OLED, but that's not a necessary upgrade. It truly is built like a tank. It's surprisingly heavy for a 13.3" laptop, but that just means it's well built. The keyboard is incredibly easy and comfortable to type on. The speakers are really amazing for a laptop too. The advantage of this is that you don't hear it as much when the fans turn on. So many laptop reviews on the web. Some are worthless and skip the important things...some are way too verbose. This was one of the better reviews I've seen out of 50-60 samples. Thanks, Dave! I'll check out some of your other vids.
CamKap you can plug in equivalent alienware configs here and compare price. Aw is a bit better with this update but I'm pretty sure origin still beats them. And remember with origin you get support and a warranty with coverage. www.originpc.com/gaming/laptops/
Gentrit Biba Portability TBH this is good for a laptop but doesn't compare to a desktop experience in gameplay. Imo the best option is to have a light laptop (for school and just functionality on the go) and an op desktop. Even if it has way better price to performance, it's out of the picture for me because it doesn't have what I need in a laptop.
Because they are slimmer, lighter, more beautiful and have way better battery life. Regarding MacBooks it may also be because the person prefers macOS.
I've been waiting for this before I decide on which 1060 laptop to go with. Thanks!! But I can't find it for sell online yet.. any idea when this will be available? And for what price?
Iwert M I had the new Razer Blade with the 1060. It did not get hot at all. It has better thermals than even the thicker laptops. My cpu didn't get above 73C during gaming; the gpu was lower.
This tickles my fancy, but doesn't make the MBPs bad. They serve a different purpose. Longer battery life, lighter, smaller, etc. Think of it like choosing a car.
Sorry I don't game 24/7, but I do work for a much longer period of time. So I guess 95% of the time I am suffering from shitty battery life, bulky and heavy as f*** coffin, heat generator and an OS that's not so "work" oriented. They were made for different purposes.
I've been looking for a new laptop with 13' with great specs within a 1500€ budget! Guess I Just found my next acquisition. Thanks mate, really appreciate your review!! All the details in such a short video made my time and money worth! Love your reviews!
Zellio2011 I wouldn't call it a fail, the QHD+ Touch display on the Blade is phenomenal. It supports 100% Adobe RGB Color Gamut too. I suppose OLED would offer a bit more brightness, but a couple less lumens is definitely not a deal breaker for me.
And thermal throttle to death. The new Razer Blade runs at 93 degrees on just Overwatch. That's a massive problem dude. The pc will actually shut off on you if you're not careful. The thermals on this are 43 degrees.
Just found this channel, best laid out review I've ever seen, short and to the point, awesome graphical images in the end for a wrap up! New sub right here :D
there is no technology. The bezels are needed but dont have to be ANYWHERE that thick. I think its because with a bigger panel theyd have a bigger resolutino and eventuallly lower performance while gaming but In general I think its just for style althoguh I find it discunting
See? This is how a laptop should be built and priced as well. You can do video editing and play games at rich fps at much lower price. You know what i am referring to right? The overpriced shitty Apple MacBook. Apple are so greedy. I would love to see some other company dethrone apple and still would produce nice products which actually is worth every penny.
Jesus, saw a review from "awe of tech" I couldn't stand his voice and had no idea about the specs because he just talks about what he see's visually, this is an actual review video with intelligence in the review, so refreshing, very good review.
in theory, but many of the parts are propreitary so if something breaks(or it shipss broken) you need to send it into dell for repair. it's a nightmare. look into the origin laptop computers instead. I have one I use for editing and stuff and it works great and has better specs.
to be honest if you have watched Dave Lee a lot, you can remember that he made a video on the Alienware 13 r3 called something like GTX 1060 Gaming Performance Benchmarks so if you see that the gaming performance is amazing !!!
Tbh i love alienware designs and the specs they put in their laptops, unfortunately i had a bad experience with my current laptop. The mobo went through, and another time the cmos battery reset and i had no knowledge how to reset it. Another time my battery upped and died. Thanks to warranty everything was fixed but it's gonna end in november (i took 1 year only). If any of you buy an alienware be sure to take warranty fellas. I know my case is isolated but it still can happen to you. (Alienware 15 r2 skylake owner)
you're not the first that i've heard have mobo issues. it can be like a care model, too bad these companies are liable after the 1 year warranty and they don't do recalls like care companies.
Great Vid Dave!! I've been waiting for the release of this to see how it would fair in comparison to last years model 13, Unfortunately for me i caved in February this year and purchased the Skylake I5 model on sale@$899 from Dell and now I'm all tears!!! Price for performance for the new model is plenty adequate for even the base model, People can say what they want about Alienware but there is nothing but quality in the build of these units heat/ventilation distribution are top notch and make the those complaining about the weight re-analyze why there is heft in such a small package!!
This is the first time I've ever seriously considered buying an Alienware product. It reminds me of the 11 inch Alienware from 2010, but with the performance of your average mid tower PC. The look of the machine is finally understated enough to the point where I find it acceptable to use it in public, and it looks easier to carry around than the previous 13-14 inch Alienware laptops.
Great reviews imo. I'll be looking for 2 lappys for different purposing for either. Will revisit you once I've narrowed them down. Keep up the great work! Been a pleasure watching what I've seen from your reviews .

alienware and affordable whhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat ?
first name last name since macbook pro 2016
Tony Anderson gotta compete somehow
first name last name eh, don't get confused. The higher end model that Dave used on the review is priced around 1900 usd. So yeah, not that affordable once you put the oled display and ssd capacity upgrade. Still, it's a very very intriguing laptop, moreso than MacBook pro.
first name last name Not really affordable. Go build it on their website and for the model that Dave has it costs over 2 grand. The cheapest version which is 1200 you get i5 and 8 gig of memory
though the one he showed was 1400 or 1200 mb i didn't know it was 2,000
I remember when this video first came out, I was so interested in this gaming laptop because of OLED. Sadly couldn’t afford it back then. Now 5 years later, I still can’t afford it.
Lol
I just found it for $400 and I think is a good price, I want it, do you recommend it?
@@sweettooth5962 is highly recommend it if your looking for a smaller size laptop with hood thermals, just be careful not to get duped or scammed mon
Hearing a price like that I can only assume there is something wrong with it out someone is trying to scam ya with a product they don’t really own
Be carful when browsing second had site, especially EBay, the amount of time I ordered something that never got delivered to me and I wasn’t even able to get my money back via dispute
Maybe the security & customer service is better now and days thou cuz it’s been years since that’s happened to me and I still use eBay
All I have to say is if you found a price tag like that online or locally then my guy just hit the triple 7 jackpot on investment, even if it needs a few parts to work although bare in mind some parts might be hard to come by now & days & swapping parts in the back takes a lot of disassembly & trouble shooting so just be 100% ya know what your buying
I just ordered one with the OLED. Thanks for the review! I'm not expecting huge battery life, but as a content creator I think Im going to love it.
This was a great review, really thorough and professional. You earned my sub, looking forward to more review content from this channel, keep up the great work!
Ninja streamer hear form the same amount of time when ya pretty much left this comment🤣
Although I may sub once I’ve more funds to invest in computing, love Dave2D’s tech reviews, truly a strait shooter & not some payed of tech sponsor just trying to push products
Despite a lot of the corporates trying to get a product review outta him, I’m glad he doesn’t front about the pros & cons
I really wish Alienware would bring back the M11x
Like a re visioned version??? Because that would be cool.
Yeah same, M11x was like my dream netbook haha. I don't get why they couldn't refresh it tho, I mean the new pascal GPUs are smaller and more power efficient so it shouldn't be difficult.
The Nightman I will tell you right now, I owned one and it and the heat output throttled the shit out of everything.
I still have it lol
how do you feel about it? I am thinking about getting one for school and light gaming. How transportable is it?
Watching this on my Alienware 13 R2. God damn, I found my next laptop. This shit is SEXY!!!
lmao i have a 13 R1
Epicwallzdan You getting this upgrade too? I'm trying to return this model to Alienware for a discount.
***** Good choice. It's not as sexy looking, but the power and thermal management is unbelievable.
Dragon Ball shit himself, just like his show corny.
What hace years old your laptop
This is so much better than the Macbook Pro 2016..
As always Dave is an amazing reviewer
surprised not more subs to this channel
I bought ordered one of these models up sale for 3k(limited edition and all that)in Dec2020, revived it in Jan2021, upgraded the Ram to 32G & SSD to 2TB & I gotta say @Dave2D
Haven’t regretted it since, you truly know your tech and good quality where it lies, finally got it running on the graphics Amp with an RTX3080 & the computing is unstoppable
I know there be tons of models that can put preform it easy but for one of the smallest gaming laptops truly the best thermals, you would think it would be prob to over heating a lot being so small & compact but especially with a fan stand pad attached to it no laptop can compare IMO
& I didn’t even have a Tube account before I looked into this & got everything running 100% so I’m back to tell ya that you are most defiantly correct about one thing for sure, it really can handle the heat
Solid machine. I just don't like the looks. :P
Well gaming laptops do not look nice in general. except for Razer's
I personally like how the MSI GT62VR looks. XD
+Biondi Wiyono Alienwares look the worst. even though Asus laptops are bulky they still look nice.
Alienware design at its best as always. Ugly brick.
Nigga said *IBM computer* now that's fucked up
Might as well buy an Alienware over the Mac
Razer blade gtx1060 please
The Star of China it already exists mate the 14 inch blade has a 1060, the 17 inch pro has a 1080 and the blade stealth has the core
Ralph Atkinson There is no review for them here yet.
Hyungjoo Afellay Jang yeah I misunderstood his question
it is almost the same but it costs like 700$ more, razer is just more portable.
Beautiful design but the thermals on that machine is UGLY!
You even included the desktop wallpaper link. You are amazing Dave :) :D
So many laptop reviews on the web. Some are worthless and skip the important things...some are way too verbose. This was one of the better reviews I've seen out of 50-60 samples. Thanks, Dave! I'll check out some of your other vids.
I think Alienware nailed it. There are no other 13 inch laptops with a quadcore cpu
wrong, MSI did it years ago
Wrong, clevo and Sager did it like 5 years ago
You mentioned the hours of regular use. What about hours of gaming?
If it's anything like previous generations don't count on more than 2 hours of heavy use... and that's before the battery begins degrading.
around 1.5 hours? and you're getting pretty steep frame rate drop. Gaming on batteries is never really a good timeon high end laptops.
Dave Lee is a cute daddy
But how about when it comes to regular tasks like, microsoft word or just youtube?
chuckolatte He mentioned it in the video.
This is the best gaming laptop xD
WRONG! go look at MSI, Origin, Digital Storm, and Iron side computers. Now realize they are speced higher for less money and have better support.
how much less send link?
CamKap you can plug in equivalent alienware configs here and compare price. Aw is a bit better with this update but I'm pretty sure origin still beats them. And remember with origin you get support and a warranty with coverage. www.originpc.com/gaming/laptops/
yes it is the best
others have no oled oled is life
Found you channel today ........Just loving your videos
Thanks for bringing back the 2D drawing visuals for Specification call-outs. :) Thumbs up
why would anyone buy macbook or microsoft surface book over this?
Gentrit Biba portable and battery power
Gentrit Biba
Portability
TBH this is good for a laptop but doesn't compare to a desktop experience in gameplay. Imo the best option is to have a light laptop (for school and just functionality on the go) and an op desktop. Even if it has way better price to performance, it's out of the picture for me because it doesn't have what I need in a laptop.
OneDerscore One
Bdon Ism ... Yes?
Because they are slimmer, lighter, more beautiful and have way better battery life. Regarding MacBooks it may also be because the person prefers macOS.
Official Alienware Definition - A Dell with lights
Krypto nah, Dell+MacBook but built like a tank.
Quad-core with HT?
just bought it. Great laptop. I love it. Mine was around $1400. I got the one slightly above the base model.
I always love the blueprint style at the end of your reviews. I'm really curious how to make them.
Could I use this like a desktop and hook it up to my monitor via HDMI? Then plug a keyboard and mouse in and have my own little gaming setup?
Finger Circle yes
I've been waiting for this before I decide on which 1060 laptop to go with. Thanks!! But I can't find it for sell online yet.. any idea when this will be available? And for what price?
consider Razer Blade with GTX 1060 too
Dave said it's starting at 1200 bucks. That's a damn good price tag!
does it cost the same??
nah, razer has some trouble with getting hot due to its thinner chassis. they look pretty but id rather go with AWs quality
Iwert M I had the new Razer Blade with the 1060. It did not get hot at all. It has better thermals than even the thicker laptops. My cpu didn't get above 73C during gaming; the gpu was lower.
So...those new macs huh?
Yeah, I'm disappointed too.
I was gonna watch a bunch of reviews but u did an excellent job my friend. Thanks
You gave us the desktop background... I love you.
who else is watching the video while scrolling down the comment section?
meh
Can you not
This is the ultimate fuck Apple laptop...
Jarl Ballin' This is as coffin, not a laptop LOL
This tickles my fancy, but doesn't make the MBPs bad. They serve a different purpose. Longer battery life, lighter, smaller, etc. Think of it like choosing a car.
Jarl Ballin' How? Apple doesn't even make gaming laptops.
They aren't competitors, they don't even have the same audience.
Sorry I don't game 24/7, but I do work for a much longer period of time. So I guess 95% of the time I am suffering from shitty battery life, bulky and heavy as f*** coffin, heat generator and an OS that's not so "work" oriented. They were made for different purposes.
1200 dollars !? damn ......so cheap!?
I've been looking for a new laptop with 13' with great specs within a 1500€ budget! Guess I Just found my next acquisition.
Thanks mate, really appreciate your review!! All the details in such a short video made my time and money worth!
Love your reviews!
Very cool! Great video Dave
could the alienware 15 r3 with an i5 6300 and a 1060 do some video/photo edit?? (not any heavy work)
NatePlays yes
It has an oled panel i5 may not be the best but it’s decent. The gpu could most likely handle element 3D
This or New 1060 Razer blade?
Blade > A13 R3
New Razer Blade doesn't have an oled option, instant fail
Zellio2011 I wouldn't call it a fail, the QHD+ Touch display on the Blade is phenomenal. It supports 100% Adobe RGB Color Gamut too.
I suppose OLED would offer a bit more brightness, but a couple less lumens is definitely not a deal breaker for me.
Nathan Reyes That isn't the only advantage of oled. Near 0 input lag and perfect blacks
They're both very nice, but for me the pros of the Blade outweigh the pros of the A13.
Razer would have been able to fit in 6 Titan X's, 2 Xeons, a truck, a fat mexican and a camel in that chassis...
And thermal throttle to death. The new Razer Blade runs at 93 degrees on just Overwatch. That's a massive problem dude. The pc will actually shut off on you if you're not careful. The thermals on this are 43 degrees.
Northgate Games do you mind giving me a source for that claim
Ali Boran don't forget separate vapor chambers to cool all of them
I'm just takin the piss. I don't use laptop for gaming.
Ali Boran This doubles as a laptop and a desktop. Best of both worlds.
I subbed this channel deserves 10000000000 subs
Just found this channel, best laid out review I've ever seen, short and to the point, awesome graphical images in the end for a wrap up! New sub right here :D
Why gaming laptops always have huge bezels?
Cuz they are gaming laptops not MacBook or xps13
Rock GamingTV But why they need to have those damn 5cm wide bezels? In this case Alienware could've fitted at least a 14" panel to the same frame.
Has to be cuz of some technology inside.. That took that much space
there is no technology. The bezels are needed but dont have to be ANYWHERE that thick. I think its because with a bigger panel theyd have a bigger resolutino and eventuallly lower performance while gaming but In general I think its just for style althoguh I find it discunting
Lequu Something about bleedback or something.
Why am i watching this I can't afford a 500 laptop let alone a 1300$😂😂😂😂💔💔💔😂😂😂💔
same as people keep watching Lamborghini's video when they can't even afford a $50k car.
Tech Lover X Just pay monthly, its like 60 bucks a month for this alienware
i feel like his cost more like 2000$ lol
Let alone 1900USD
Basil hilmi X im watching cuz im getting one on my birthday
Jesus, saw a review from "awe of tech" I couldn't stand his voice and had no idea about the specs because he just talks about what he see's visually, this is an actual review video with intelligence in the review, so refreshing, very good review.
Next do Alienware 15 R3 please.
Awesome channel btw
who else is watching on an alienware laptop?
is this good for editing?
in theory, but many of the parts are propreitary so if something breaks(or it shipss broken) you need to send it into dell for repair. it's a nightmare. look into the origin laptop computers instead. I have one I use for editing and stuff and it works great and has better specs.
Don't listen to the haters. Just do some research yourself, and if you like it than buy it.
It has good storage and decent ram so ya
It's too THICK!!
choked on ... milk (not dick)
T H I C C
Your realize that theres a whole graphics card in there right?!
Nicholas Ten that's what she said
Its a gaming laptop. Not a notebook.
very much appreciated!
very nice work done. loved it. the gameplays during the benchmarking was the best part. Best of luck😊
Man I should have waited a year, this is an amazing breakthrough for 13" laptops.
Whenever I see an Alienware I think of Fisherprice
Is it only me, or is this really a thick, heavy and incredibly ugly computer?
no, you are right. And it's not especially powerful compared to other desktop replacements.
I mean it rly does look like a nice laptop but I do wish that the keyboard was individuallly lit for this price point
to be honest if you have watched Dave Lee a lot, you can remember that he made a video on the Alienware 13 r3 called something like GTX 1060 Gaming Performance Benchmarks so if you see that the gaming performance is amazing !!!
Only you
Holy crap, Dave. Beautiful corner condo. Look east and you might see me waving from the suburbs.
I've been waiting for the release of this to see how it would fair in comparison to last years model 13,
Unfortunately for me i caved in February this year and purchased the Skylake I5 model on sale@$899 from Dell and now
I'm all tears!!! Price for performance for the new model is plenty adequate for even the base model, People can say what they want about Alienware but there is nothing but quality in the build of these units heat/ventilation distribution are top notch
and make the those complaining about the weight re-analyze why there is heft in such a small package!!
One of the best tech reviews I have ever seen. Subscribed
this guy really puts a lot of work on his videos. So professional ! i subscribed !
Thanks for the Video Dave - always a crisp and clear review. Awesome!
Great quality reviews! I'm on the market for a higher end laptop and luckily I was able to watch some of your awesome reviews. Thanks!
You make amazing videos, and I love the "drawings"/animations you make. Keep up the good work :)
Dave is spoiling us with two videos today
This is the first time I've ever seriously considered buying an Alienware product. It reminds me of the 11 inch Alienware from 2010, but with the performance of your average mid tower PC. The look of the machine is finally understated enough to the point where I find it acceptable to use it in public, and it looks easier to carry around than the previous 13-14 inch Alienware laptops.
Dig your videos dude. Straight to the point, no nonsense and informative. Got a strong sub from me!
Dude you are doing a great job here, very professional. It's the first video I watched from you and I like it. You just a won a new sub! :D
Love your laptop reviews because they help me pick out the right laptop for me :) Thank you!
wonderful review mate, very professional and helpful
Great reviews imo. I'll be looking for 2 lappys for different purposing for either. Will revisit you once I've narrowed them down. Keep up the great work! Been a pleasure watching what I've seen from your reviews
.
Love the effort put into this. Nice.
I want to be your friend! :p
Keep up the good work! By far the most in depth but simplified reviewer on TH-cam
Beautiful wallpaper. Thanks Dave Lee.
