I love how Zack the serial killer was the most normal person in this story
I mean, the entire cast is made up of serial killers, but still.
After all, the preacher did say Zack was the most "pure" one out of all of them.
He clearly has an innocence around him, he likes blood and violence like a demented child. He hates liars more than anything which is also very child like, I don't think he's mentally aged as much as he has physically since he first began killing, trauma can result in mentally regressing so it kinda makes sense.
He doesn't have any other motives, he just loves blood and guts.
He's straight with people - that comment about how he just kills people, no running around like Danny or Ray. He kills people because they remind him of his abusers, so it's for revenge and not sadism. Still wrong, but his motives are literally the least "wtfh!?"

Now, after all this... Zack really IS a good character.
Basically, he's kind of edgy done right. Kind of, y'know - a walking, talking *_satire_* of edginess, while also being a proper character.
And another interesting aspect is that he's not insane. He's naive and uneducated, and probably a lot of years behind in mental maturity - but he's decidedly *_sane,_* despite him being a killer.
So yeah, he definitely carried this whole thing. Though Ray redeemed herself a lot in the end too, and characters like the Reverend were interesting too.
Ani Ga So, what I take from this, Is that edge with a great big helping of moe af is the way to go if you want to do edge right.
Hmm, not really. I wasn't referring to some of the moe aspects to his character (though moe is simply the wrong word anyway).
I was referring to the amount of edge in this character; he's edgy to the point of clearly being a satire, *_BUT_* at the same time manages to still be a character with a proper personality outside of being stupid levels of edgy.
Which I call "edgy done right" because it's probably literally the only display of such high levels of edge that I was able to actually enjoy, ever. xD

For those who are wondering how many drinks you would've had to drink if you were playing the Peepers Drinking Game, I rewatched the whole series for you. Amazingly, the word "peepers" was said 47 times throughout the game. But if you count how many times Manly said peepers (outside the scripted dialogue), the counter would go up to 58. Rest in peace all those who played the Peepers Drinking Game #NeverForget

Okay, let's just step back and see, what did Zack survived through the game.
An electric chair, a poisonous gas, a nightmare venom injection, a slash of his own scythe, a few hours of bleeding, a fight with a snakes, a few bites from piranha, more bites from pitbulls, electric water, an explosion to the face, an exploding building, a ton of deathflags, a shitty toilet and a very hot(or just very spicy?) pizza. And he was shot 10 times or so. And then he also smashed a window, that reinforced with iron bars with his head.
This guy is really bad at dying.

I've been typing from beyond the beyond of the beyond of the beyond of the grave. I drank so much Stroh 80 that I died, then while I was dead, I of course continued to play and drank myself to double death, I believe it was called something like Nectar of the Wormbeing. Then I died drinking yet again, on a mixture of; Essence of Putrid and Essence of Decay. You do not accustom to the taste of Nectar of the Wormbeing or on that tincture of Vileness.
However it's the cheapest thing here in hell.
We probably had a lot more casualties than the last drinking game: the kotorobaki drink challenge (sorry for spelling it wrong 😣 )

I think what happened is that Zack became in charge of rays life and only he can decide when she dies, so he's basically telling her to live. until he kills her which won't happen for a long time I don't think, and Zack also has to keep his ass alive to look after rays life/death

I know I'm a year late but I want to chime in. I think Rachel gets more crap than she deserves. The story works because of the Zack/Rachel dynamic. I think Zack on his own could easily become a Mary Sue. Another Jeff the Killer unstoppable maniac thing. I think Rachel humanizes him and keeps him and the story grounded. At the same time Rachel's got an edge to her that people overlook. What she did to her parents and how accepting she was of Zack's killings. She wasn't trying to redeem him or 'save his soul'. She know what he was and she accepted it, that's kinda of unusual for her character type.

My very late thoughts, I agree. Their dynamic is one where they can respect and understand each other so easily. Like intuitively even if they don't show it outwardly, and that just seems so amazing to me. They really do seem perfect for each other, they don't need someone to fix them, just someone to understand and stay by them.

So.. maybe it’s just me not being able to properly judge characters, but I feel like Zack and Ray have that one specific character trope where they can sometimes sense what the other will do and react to that.
Like, maybe Zack will be on the verge of trying to smash something, and Ray’ll realize that and stop him. Or maybe she’ll be able to fight alongside him (what with them being on the run now) and she’ll be able to counter his weaknesses / make his attack stronger, and vise versa.

Rachel's sad backstory was pretty much what I expected - she knew what she had done & sought forgiveness. Her deception continued until she realized she only needed to forgive herself. Zack tho was my favorite character & absolutely heartbreaking. By the end, this game & Zack had me crying.
They were able to keep their faithful vow to each other, until death us do part. And tho they might have lived, I feel more sure that jumping out the window resulted in their deaths. But I like to think they are finally happy. And Dr Peepers Danny lived on for a sequel.
The moral of the story came from Zack - be your own person, "...grab life by the balls! Take control, dammit!" You decide your fate - not your parents, not your circumstances, not your religion - just you. Wonderful job of playing & voice acting, MBH - you made me love the game. :)

Honestly, what ultimately made this game entertaining was Zack himself. He pretty much carried the story with his character development throughout the game, and without him this story would have gotten boring fast. Rachel is not an interesing enough character by herself, even with her fucked up and rather generic backstory imo.
I agree wholeheartedly. Zack was the backbone of this whole thing. I would've stopped watching with just Rachel's boring ass self. Zack carried this entire thing. He's great.

i think he is the true main character of the game and ray is there to emphasis his traits. in my opinion, the title refers to him more than ray.
Also think that he was the true main mc and not Ray I totally think it would have been a lot easier to make Ray background a lot more fucked up so you would actually feel connected to her something like a crazy religious sect that adored a "God" and killed in thats God name then she just totally lost it and killed everyone and that would make her obsession with needing a "God". Or something like that but no they just used the same old script for these cases.
So it's what Grey implied, this is all Ray's fault. Sure Danny wanted her here and Zach did kill a couple of people, but he did it for Ray's behalf, she was the catalyst. If Ray didn't exist they all would have been strangely content on their own floors as their life time prison cells, kinda like Dangonrompa before the memory wipe.

Wow, I'm surprised it was a rather happy ending. Anyway, this is what I understand (and I'm sure others will see it differently): Zack is a murderer (a proud one at that). Ray isn't (she killed the dog because it bit her (a reaction any child with no education of right and wrong would do) and her father in self-defense). I don't think Ray was psychotic (different but not crazy (a lot was a coping mechanism to protect her own fragile mind)). But rather she was brainwashed (most likely by Danny since he probably used her naivety and insecurities to his advantage--the preacher helped Danny by giving her a 'purpose" which she wanted because he wanted to play god and see how far people will go in their beliefs (basically he helped Danny for giggles).). Aware but not of her actions (Aware she was killing people but didn't know that was wrong--if she questioned it, Danny, as a mental doctor, could have easily reinforced the belief that those people "deserved" to die to make people "perfect".). I don't think she actually lied. She said she lied because she wanted Zack to kill her which he probably wouldn't have done due to the bonding they had so she had to push him just to be sure he would (Danny most likely reinforced the idea that Zack had to die during Zack's wandering). I'm glad Zack was to reach the "real' her. I do think they committed suicide by jumping out the window together under the pretense of him killing her (though some can see it as they go on a Bonny and Clyde rampage together (her the brains, him the muscle)).
Zack is definitely the hero in the story. Ray alone wouldn't carry the weight because she wasn't the heroine which we were initially led to believe (similar to a red herring--not a textbook definition but close enough). I like both Ray and Zack. A stark contrast in characters. As for Zack not swearing at all during his speech, I thought it was fine. He's a character that gets to the point. Most people are like that. Normally swear like the Dickens. But when something demands your full attention and you have to pick your words carefully, you tend not to swear as often and therefore not "clutter" what you're saying and ensure the meaning is driven home. I'm like that.
All in all, I really love the game. This is what a game should be: endearing to the characters. Care about them and their plight. Great moral too. There was some cliches (like Ray's story). Though the usage of the word "peepers" was so annoying, I gagged (which was probably intended so you would hate the "real" bad guy). I never want to hear that word ever again. Not even at my funeral when I die. I am glad it ended the way it did. As I said, Zack being the true hero, he learned an equal valuable lesson: he learned that he isn't a complete monster and that it's okay to care about someone (even though he said he desired her death, I don't think he really did--his first lie because he wanted to see a true genuine smile from her (aka his real wish).). I'm sad to see it end though. But as the saying goes: all things must come to an end.

I feel like if it was just her it would be boring yeah, but she's boring and emotionless for a reason. if she was the expressive one there would be no point to Zack's over expressive and edgeyness. there characters kinda help each other out. and personally I don't think Zack's personality would shine as much without ray. he would just be the generic edgey serial killer that teenagers wanna bang. they balance each other out.also I ship them. idc.

Obviously, Zack was such a great character in this series, Hes flawed but at the same time he's literally got nothing to hide. he's a murderous open book. I think this lp is gonna be one of my faves that manly has played so far, not for the actual game mechanics. but the story itself was a cliche, however it's one of those cliches that are just too damn good to skip over. As for the ending, I really like to believe that Zack and Ray made off and escaped elsewhere then later on carried out the oath, but it would be done on their own time after they'd bond some more and enjoy their lives for a bit longer together. (because I'm a sucker for happy endings in horror games). Finally! thanks to manly for playing this game, your voices were awesome, especially Zacks, I look forward to seeing more videos in the future!

I marathoned the whole thing today. I couldn't stop. The writing and the characters were so good. And the acting for Zack and the other male characters helped get me into it. The relationship between Zack and Ray made me feel both happy and sad. And when I found out why Ray was the way she was, I wanted to hug the crap out of her. She came from a broken home and she didn't know what to do. I hope in the end Zack didn't actually kill her. I feel like their bond became too strong for that. I'm going to go and try to process all of this. Feeling too much right now.

I think they left the ending kind of open like that so it could be satisfying for both sides. You know, some people would be more satisfied if they fulfilled their oath immeidately, while others - like me - prefer to think they lived out their life together then fulfilled their oath later - perhaps when they're both old and on their death beds anyways. Ray would set up a timed trap to kill zack after zack slashes her and so they'd die together like that or something. To each their own. Loved this game and especially the way manly did it

Yeah this game ended really nicely, I do agree that Zack mostly held the whole story together which is actually surprising because at first I thought he was going to be a discount Jeff the Killer.
Thing is I would say my biggest criticism isn't on the game itself but its translation. I could be outright wrong but a lot of dialogue feel... engrish in its grammatical structure. Its just really stilted and clunky in certain scenes to the point I had trouble comprehending what the characters were trying to say. That's... very not good for a game that is basically 95% dialogue driven.
That aside I honestly think this game could be made into an actual anime series because it is that good, the flaws the story and characters aren't too extreme and could easily be resolved with some minor tweaks. Perhaps someday that may happen, I mean One Punch Man started as a very unprofessionally drawn webcomic so its certainly plausible for a RPG maker game to become a series.

This was the best possible ending I could ever ask for in a game like this to be honest. This game is definitely one of those ones I wont be forgetting anytime soon. I'm so glad I waited for Manly to play it and didnt get impatient when waiting for the next parts because it was a great experience.
A touching love story between two sociopaths. Even killers are human in the end.
Manly has officially made a Kool-Aid call (good for one use) which makes any ending in a game have a cliché that involves breaking/busting something down.
For anyone out their interested this game actually has a manga adaptation called Satsuriku no Tenshi or Angels of Slaughter. I think it can do exceedingly better than the game if done right and highly recomend people to go and read it if your a fan of this. Its really well made and looks gorgeous.
Hydration challenge:
Every time you get dehydrated, return to this Let's Play series and take a sip of water for every time the word "peepers" comes up.
Safer than a drinking challenge, and you still get the bonuses of participation and hydration.

Yep. Like I said: This is like a twisted rom com except it's about killing. Case in point, I find it hilarious that most of this chapter, Zack was like "Don't you die on me. We're going to get out together so I can kill you." It's just hilarious that it all ends in death, but they're more worried about who will do the killing. Overall, bad pacing, great soundtrack, and a good game.
I know you already have a game waiting on the sidelines, but I do hope, some time in the future, you'll do a let's play Danganronpa 2. I've been debating buying it, and I've been trying not to spoil it for myself, because I loved your let's play of the first one so much that I'd rather watch you play it. Until then, I await the next game. :)

Ah, okay. Interesting thought. So in a way Zack was trying to bring Ray to her own personal definition of happiness. That's pretty sweet, in its own way. It's strange because the wish is death, but I'm sure that brought a real smile to her face in the end.
I guess Ray let out the biggest smile she ever made and thus Zack killed her and carried her body? I know he was bleeding on the head over his eye but I doubt that much blood from the window would come from that.

Depends on how you define "platonic." Some say "platonic" and "romantic" relations are entirely different things, but the way people use these words, it feels as if people think that the only difference between the two is sex and sex only. Let's say you have a long-loving married couple and they simply didn't have sex. Would you feel that is weird? Because that'd be "platonic love" with all the aspects of a romantic love, without the sex. A lot of people just can't seem to imagine that, which I feel is baloney. You get what I'm saying?

This was a really good game. Story wise of course. it had an interesting theme and had sort of a twisted shoujo anime way of telling things. i really did love Zack as a character and loved the quirky dialogue between him and Rachel in some instances like when they were talking about the traps. Didnt think Danny would last this long. I wonder if there are anymore survivors of the drinking game. The reverends experiment seems so weird, well his motives were complex XD
This game really had good dramatic moments. The way it was ending actually did make me think of how you would see the endings of wadanohara with the whole dialogue between her, samekichi and sal. somewhat emotional for me too.
Really loved how it ended. it was realy enjoyable and ends with giving the players some room for what they think happens after the escape

The ending personally left me a bit unsatisfied. You know, since the ending is up for interpretation. On one hand, people believe that they are just going to live life to the fullest together and that Zack will kill her later. But will they? They're on the run and I have no doubt that they can lose the police. Heck, Zack did that for a long time, but being on the run and constantly hiding, is that going to bring Rachel happiness? I mean, I guess so, since she has Zack (the first true precious person in her life), but that still leaves me on a bitter note. I honestly and personally would have found more closure had he just killed her on the spot.

Saw someone mentioned about an extra episode in the earlier movies so I thought I should talk about it. It's called Episode NG, but it's not playable. It's a movie released by the creater in NicoNicoDouga, so it's fully in Japanese. Not sure if anyone translated it though, but it was fun to watch. It's about how things went wrong during the "filming" of the game. It has zero relation to the real plot but just for extra fun to aid our sense of loss after the ending xD (ps there's a reason why Zack can't open the washing machine)
