The Undertale Multiverse is literally a different fandom from the Undertale fandom, as someone in both, they do NOT mix Sans is a species at this point
Yeah, I kinda get it but.. Why is it always Sans?? Why not Toriel? Asgore? Frickin' ALPHYS? Bro I want a take on Underfell that goes into the life of people like Gerson and the Temmies
I was there, I saw it happen live on Tumblr. I witnessed Error, Fresh, and Ink transform from being Sans to original characters. I saw Underfell rise and fall, Underswap explode into its own complicated AU’s. It was a hellscape
@@Biscuit_gamer34Agreed. My favorite is Parchment. It's about this Eldritch being that fused with Papyrus before it knew what morals was and the poor guy just wants to make things right. @@theunfortunatewonderer5018 Omg I never heard of Parchment before he sounds cool. One of My Favorites is Chronicle. He's an outcode in a similiar vein to Ink but instead of bad memory he has narcolepsy and his whole deal is that he has the stories of every single AU and character in a Giant Library. His story never got finished unfortunately but he's still a cool one. Some other ones I really like are Delta, Cross, Epic, Abyss, Ganz, Handplates, and Playbacktale which stars Papyrus and Flowey becoming this fused being where Flowey gets to feel again but Papyrus loses the ability to feel. Super underrated aus. Ink will always be one of my favorites though cuz Artist who can't read a room XD. I feel really bad for Flowerfell though, poor thing just wanted to be a nice story only to be burnt at the stake by shippers and anitishippers.
I wanted to tr to defend Ink when he said that Ink was the antagonist behind X-Gaster, then I was like... "you know, if you think of what is Ink's job, he is technially a muse... so him just doing his job, even though it has no bad intent... is what made the other perfectionnist guy lose it... kinda ?" But, I still want to defend Ink as he is my favorite and in itself, the only reason it went south is because X-Gaster is a perfectionnist, not beause Ink is "the dark mastermind behind it all" or something. (Ink is a dumbass, he is too stupid for this)

Undertale was the story about a lone developer who went to the mountain top and screamed "INDY GAMES ARE HERE TO STAY" then set the world on fire. A unforgettable classic.
The way I see it, there are two ways to do AU characters really well. 1. The Thought approach. Re-create their original personalities as perfectly as humanly possible. Inverted Fate is also a good example. 2. The Error approach. Make them truly distinct characters with their own personality, backstory, quirks, and abilities. Xtale is a personal favorite in this category.
@@Jokes_Aside122 Its a comic, in which Sans gets a thought about killing frisk near the door of the ruins so they can get their happy ending early and without the human, and then shit hits the fan. It's completed you can watch it as a dubbed movie. Its a pretty cool story
Underverse was not made by Camilla (nor did Camilla even work on it) and its actual creator (Jael Peñaloza) is not a bad person. They’ve already been going through a lot. Please do not make it worse. Edit: Problem has been resolved. The part was edited out.

One thing that I really, REALLY like about XGaster is his actions. He represents an author, a writer (which I can relate to). Honestly, as many have said, one of the biggest issues with Undertale AUs, if not Undertale as a whole, is the "Sansuration" as I call it, in which Sans ended up being _the_ most popular and interesting of the monsters for a lot of people, leading to the nearly decade long span of AUs and projects that seem to focus primarily on Sans, or if not that, give him the lion's share of development and relevance in the plot... even though Sans himself _doesn't_ have that much relevance in the plot outside of judging you before reaching the king and informing you of the status of the Underground based on the choices you made, and the optional boss fight if you choose to kill everyone. There's so many other characters you could explore, but outside of the skeletons or Gaster, there's barely any exploration outside of Dreemurr Reborn, Growthspurt, and a couple others whose names I can't remember. Hell, for all that it gets hazed these days, Glitchtale managed to tell a story where Sans _isn't_ the main focus... it's not a _perfect_ story by any means (Season 2 hit the DIAA so much I prefer Season 1 since that was actually good), but at least it does something with the rest of the cast.
I think this comment is a little disingenuous. There is a lot of undertale stuff that isn’t sans themed that you haven’t mentioned. Undertale Yellow, Underplayer, X-Tale, Endertale to name a few popular ones.
@@rubyred6608760 Ah yes X-tale the definitley not sans focused au where sans definitley dosent kill everyone and definitley dosent lead to underverse ( sans gaming )

@@h.annimations2536 wait but for real tho, Undertale was literally a big bang- when the game released, the first few instances of fan content appeared literally a few days after it and then it spiraled from people realizing that they wanted MORE. When Underswap and Underfell barely became concepts, it sort of self-perpetuated, which sped up the explosion that is the Undertale Multiverse.
32:44 That's actually something I found really interesting about Underverse's incarnation of Ink Sans. Jakei is on record confirming him to be genuinely soul-LESS (namely because some fans were diagnosing him, cause there's always gonna be those who believe a character might have some type of mental issue or otherwise, right?), and that in turn brings me to _another_ thing I love about Underverse: the *_foreshadowing._* Throughout Underverse, you got constant little nuggets of things being _not quite right_ in Sans's universe, or that Ink isn't to be trusted, or of Gaster being a top level threat, all of which come to a head in 0.4 (and the prologue for Season 2 for Sans's whole "owner" deal). It makes rewatches pretty great since you can really start to see the pieces as they fall in place, like Ink's emotions finally running dry by the end of 0.3 Part 2, where the shapes just stop appearing... which continues into the interlude and 0.4 where he reveals himself as the catalyst for everything. It's so damn good and shows how well Jakei does as a writer, though I wish we had an adaptation of Xtale Timeline X where we get to follow Sans like the original comic did. I like the idea of delving into Frisk and Chara's thoughts more and what drove them to give the others their memories back, but getting to see Cross having to fight his friends who gang up on _him_ for refusing to help the brothers was really something I wanted to see animated... hopefully she can make that after her year long break ends...
Ink is souless because he destroyed his to escape the Dead and abandoned AU. He survive solely on the creativity of the Undertale Creative Fandom, for without them he'll die. He's not the guardian of the AUs, rather the Muse of the Undertale Fandom; protecting their works for as if they're his very soul.
@@DrMecha Agreed. Ink protect the AUs' scripts too, not the world itself. He protects the story the Creators made. Whether this is a happy or a sad one. I saw once a small fan art where you had a Creator complaining that Ink did nothing to save the charaters, they themselves created to be miserable in the first place. Jakei puts a genuine respect toward all of the characters and how they are described by their own creators. Ink is the most telling because of the bad surprise Comyet gave Jakei. The best example is mentionning in the interview video she did years ago. She said that the same day the first episode came out, Comyet revealed the fact Ink is a soulless being. So, Jakei had a tiny panic since a blue attack was used on Ink, used the fact he has Gaster's soul on his sash to fix this and as a result, we atively see it in ep 3, as the blue attack is used on X-Gaster' soul while it is in Ink's hand, with the detail of his hand, then arm aand finally the rest of his body following. Same for the insensitivit to pain, for example. Ink is stated to be unable to feel pain. And, we don't reall seem him express a lot of pain... the two times he kinda did seem to were when Dream headbutted him by teleporting to his face, where he said a small 'ouh' which could be him having learned a bit to mimicate or something, and in ep 3 after he was crashed due to the blue attak in a pile of bone attack. And it is likely for the same reason as for the soulless problem. Because Comyet had explained the thing with pain after the soulless thing, explaining for her, since Ink is a skeleton, he already doesn't feel (physically) much, but his lack of soul cut off entirely his ability to feel physical pain. Jakei must have seen it, because in ep 4 and onward, Ink never express pain. I mean, look at the fight against Fatal_Error and the face Cross make upon seeing Ink's wrist. The guy nearly lost his entire wrist and he is casual, just telling Cross "yeah, you don't wanna be touhed by his red strings" while waving his arm to show the barely attached wrist. (he is the best example of Jakei adapting to the facts about the charaters that are part of Underverse) She even put his dads in the omega timeline, something that unless you follow comyet and pay very close attention to Ink related stuff, people don't know.
@@orianefaton1885 keeping up with canon info is pain I assumed. wonder how Jakei will deal with Error now that the entire script of his story was out in the open, leading to his own disappearance from the Undertale fandom as a whole. The missed opportunity was the exclusion of a suprised appearance from Error!Undyne; I could imagined a spear shot through the portal to the antivoid, leading to her pursuing him; a trap orchastrated by CORE themselves as a way to get rid of him.
@@DrMecha Apparently, this is the other way around. ERROR!Undyne was supposed in the storyline of the error ask blog to lose it and go completely crazy after seeing Error's glasses, since it is linked to Alphys. (the glass were given to him by Alphys when he was still Geno, before the Anti-void). She got dangerous to the point Core Frisk and Error had to do an alliance to get rid of her. But, yeah, keeping up with the canon get tricky quickly.
Hey, uh, Camilla had NOTHING to do with the creation or production of Underverse. The creator of Underverse, Jakei, had been friends with her at one point in the past, but that was back when she was unaware of everything she had done and Jakei has already disavowed her multiple times. I encourage you to look more into it, especially because of the blatant misinformation.
As a former tumblr girlie (I cringe so hard, lol), I remember a lot of cute and glorious fanart of the AUs now forever lost. Good yet awkward memories. Underfell, Underswap, Swapfell, and Outertale were my favorites if you're curious. I loved the gijinka versions of these AUs.
I always found the Undertale fandom so fascinating. You never had to play the game or read the information given by the au creators. You could find out everything you wanted about Undertale and the aus through fan osmosis. I never played the game or watched a playthrough of Undertale for years but I still new every character and story beat. People are so creative and cool! Undertale + Undertale aus have been a huge fixation of mine for many years.
I'm honestly surprised you didn't mention HELP_Tale while talking about AUs piling up. I mean, it's literally an AU about too many rapidly appearing AU's destabilizing the multiverse and causing it to implode into a single, grotesquely corrupted amalgam of a timeline.
Ayo, Cami didn't touch Underverse. That was made by Jael Penaloza who has been wrongfully harassed many times. Would be appreciated if you updated that or at least left a comment.
The moment you brought up Gaster I just immediately went 'He's gonna talk about Handplates' over 'nd over again I was in the trenches and these are the horrible consequences that will forever plague me
The handplates dub by Starbot/Calysto will likely never be finished, but there is a dub by Phoenix Prime that is finished. There is a playlist by "Briana M" that combines them so it switches over when the Starbot/Calysto dub ends.
Good video! The fandom grows each year as it evolves and changes. Looking back on what and seeing how things are now is pretty cool to see. Though a lot of worlds and projects have been left behind/finished, there’s always more like it up ahead. And now with deltarune, the train will go light speed. Happy 9th Anniversary, UNDERTALE!!!

@@Turtleboilol the scientist outfit seems kind of a stretch to me. And important...it's just a fun value character that disappears once you talk to it. I saw so many freaking Undertale AUs before playing the game that I was confused how many storylines the actual game even had because there are like 300 sans alternatives out there. But I can't blame the fandom, if a media has a story that open for making alternative universes with differing decisions, mechanics, lore - why not do it? AUs keep medias alive after they end or while waiting for the continuation. I caught myself doing AUs for media where I wasn't satisfied with the canon story and felt like you could do more with it, e.g FNAF
Tbh there are probably more, I can name 70 existing aus in like 10 minutes, and those are decently popular ones, if you also look at fan games, alternate timelines and smaller, less popular aus, there have to be an insane amount of them. Way more than 300 I believe

video was very nice! it feels good to see the au comunity being presented in a mostly positive light for once :3 however I would like to say that the section at the end (more specifically around 33:37) has a bit of missinformation, "underverse was being made by one of the worst possible people" and then proceeded to show a screenshot of camila,, intentional or not you're painting jakei(the actual creator of underverse) in a pretty bad light! Hey there! Just want to pop in and point out some misinformation at the end of the video. ^^ No hate or disrespect is intended with what I'm about to say! But Camila is not making Underverse. Jakei is! And despite many people saying so, they are not the same person and Jakei has made statements that she is uncomfortable just speaking about Camila. Camila made GlitchTale and Jakei made Underverse. I'm assuming this was just a mistake while recording and was overlooked in editing, but many of us fans and Jakei herself would appreciate if it was fixed so no more unnecessary hate is thrown at Jakei, especially hate that is supposed to be for another person. Again, no hate or disrespect to you for this! In fact you seem like a great creator and I love the videos I've seen from you! I just wanted to make you aware of this ^^
I'm about to do an "erm acktually" moment. 4:15 this would be an AT (Alternate Timeline). Anything that takes undertale and does a, "well what if this happened?" would be an AT. AU's are things like Underswap or Underfell.
It's technically an AU as it's an Derivative of Undertale; a Fanfic of shorts. AT refer to as route within the established game (Genocide, Pacifist, etc.). Think AUs as either an extension or alternative of what has already been established.
The whole AT thing was made up by the glitchtale creator who didn't want to be associated with all the "lame AUs" and look at what happened to them. Just say AU like everyone does
I have always loved undertale aus its been a true passion and hyperfixation for a good 8 years now and it always makes me happy to see some talking about them so kindly. Thank you
For me I love Ink sans as a character so much because of his flaws. Also, I think Ink's reasoning for doing all this has actually been more defined as the episodes come in. He's more like a antihero now than a true villain if I'm being honest and its not because of his lack of emotions really he was doing this. In the beginning, creators themselves destroyed half of the AUs which drove Ink into a uneasy alliance with Error (Which Ink didnt want) Ink's insecurities also of being forgotten....losing his only ability to feel with the few aus left probably also drove his actions to alliance with Xgaster. Gaster to me is the true villain because (SPOILERS) at least Ink is starting to realize that what he's doing may not be for the best not just for the multiverse but for him as well. Its not just to experience something new, and this is why I love Ink's character is because how many layers of him there are despite him not having a soul. He's always been there to support the creative community. He makes so many mistakes and can be scary but dang if he isn't cute and silly too.
Well, with undertale, there are two paths after playing, descend further into undertale madness, or become a masochist (Touhou fan). Anyway i chose masochism.
Bro... Just found an Undertale AU I wrote FOREVER ago and you post this as I start redrawing, redesigning, AND rewriting some of it?! How are you in my head?!
DustTale has been my favorite for a while now. I'm a sucker for "fallen hero" archetypes, combine that with the unique element of a game character grinding for and stealing your exp to weaken you. And Sans' purple eye is sick as well.
As someone who was right there when the UTMV first blew up, I can say for sure that it was - and still is - a wild ride. It's not for everyone but rampant creativity and chaos made a turbulent environment where just about anything could crop up and catch on. I was one of the early bloggers for Underswap, so a number of my concepts made their way into the base portrayal of the AU without anyone remembering my involvement specifically. It just became a mishmash of concepts and thoughts and discussions that evolved over time, each iteration getting wilder than the last. On the flip side, you've got people that felt like outcasts outside of the internet, people whose ideas and obsessions weren't taken seriously or discussed openly, who felt at home with the massive following Undertale had. We were all strange outsiders who shared a deep love of one game, and the variants that spiraled off it, and it gave us a home to be as weird as we wanted without feeling like we didn't belong. That also attracted a lot of bad people whose intentions weren't the best, but I think scale has to do with that. Say you've got ten fans for an obscure series, and one of them is a horrible person. Multiple that by thousands, and you get hundreds of bad people ruining things for the rest of us. Not that I defend their actions, but it's a consequence of fandom and of massive crowds gathering around something and obsessing over it. I'm still on the scene on a few sites, and it's gotten extremely quiet these days. There's still artists posting, but a lot of them moved on to other, more recent content to go nuts over that. Now's actually the time where I'd suggest getting into it, looking up old AUs and exploring the vast network of concepts and theories left behind. It's almost like an archaeological dig, finding AUs that got trampled over when the fanbase was still big and thriving. Those of us that are left writing and drawing, making new fangames and theorizing about the characters, would be very thankful for the company. A lot of the terrible people moved on already, or got booted out of the fanbase, so you don't have to worry as much as you used to about it. I'm in it for the long haul either way. Undertale changed my life, in both good and bad ways, and now that the bad parts of it are fading there's a bittersweet nostalgia to everything I find.
Ey, there's some good stuff too! Outertale has a full game with a somewhat original storyline, Undertale Yellow is done and awesome.. ..But yeah it's definitely the minority lol

It is understandable that people may miss-speak or make mistakes when talking if that is what happened, but please understand that Jale is NOT Camelia (aka: the creator of Glitchtale, aka: THAT horrible person).
The thing that gets me about Dreamtale is that it’s basically just a worse version of Chara and Asriel’s story. We got so far into Sans AUs they recreated something that already exists in the game
I would argue that a bit. The original is, yeah, fair. Pretty much the same thing. HOWEVER Nightmare's existence is the sole reason the Star Sanses exist, how Cross's story took off, the Murder Time Trio exists, and [arguably] why you can find so much deeper political schemes/planning oi fanfic rather than god-like creatures simply fighting
the Underswap Creator quit because people were shipping Underswap Sans hard in rated 18+ content and wouldn't stop, causing the creator to become discouraged and depressed. I found out few other Creators had similar problems or had been bullied or harassed because of their Au works. It's honestly sad we won't get a proper ending for some Au's.😔
Underverse does make everything worth it. As not an adult, I didn’t mind glitchtale, the fight scenes were great, the lore, well I think it kinda started dragging down after the monsters weren’t as in the spotlight as before, but oh well. Sadly, Jael is taking a break, but at least it’s only temporary! (Manga hiatus flashbacks, lol.)
Okay, I’m with you on pretty much everything, and your descriptions of characters and their motivations are absolutely incredible and pull all the heart strings, but.. calling Ink the “main” antagonist of Underverse is a bit much. That would still be XGaster. Ink might be the initiator, but that’s about it. He never expected any of this to happen, nor did he actually wish all this pain on anybody. Mostly because he literally couldn’t comprehend the concept of pain. So.. he’s not a villain, he’s just an idiot. And now that that fact has finally sunk in, he might actually figure out how to save everyone. So now, he’s joining the ridiculous army of anti-heros that is pretty much almost every other Sans.

I'm rewriting this comment, as it seems the video delves into all AUs pre-pandemic, and I want to explain some things the video didn't include, that are pretty prevalent now Underevent: a yearly event where a ton of upcoming AU projects are showcased so fans can be up-to-date on what AUs they could be looking forward to UTSC: short for the Undertale Soundcloud Community; they've been around since 2016, but really only gained relevance after Deltarune Chapter 2 released, sparking a ton of new creators to create fan-made Deltarune content, and eventually create some of the best Undertale AU content the community's seen in years, such as original AUs that focus on the entire world of Undertale instead of just Sans, as well as revamping older AUs and making them better than they ever were Fan-Games: same with the UTSC, they've been around for awhile, but have only been one-off boss fights, or unfinished demos, short horror games, or Sans genocide route fangames (I will have to admit a couple of them were actually pretty good, such as the CC!Storyswap Asriel Fight) as of recent we've been getting fully fleshed out games, such as PS!Outertale, Undertale Yellow, and TS!Underswap, which are so good that even Toby Fox himself has acknowledged one of them (Undertale Yellow) we also still get boss-fight fan-games, although they're higher quality than what we had before, and are very unique concepts (eg: Call Of The Void, La Jupo Vania, literally every Dusttale take)
BTW Handplates the comic is complete, and there is a comic dub by Phoenix Prime up thats up to date if you still want to watch it, trust me, its awesome
I actually got into Handplates fairly early on and followed it to the very end. It's the only AU I followed and I felt the ending was satisfying. Zarla put a lot of care, effort, and personal sentiment into the entire series and it was an absolute joyride from start to finish. The complete work is on their deviantart, well worth the read if you have the time (keeping up with the fandub works too though for sure)
@@lazyvoid7107 They never said they weren't canon... and technically, they will never really be, since they aren't Undertale characters. (though they have their own canon, due to being very popular characters) What they meant was that the way it was said made it look like CQ created Error after having heard of Ink. Ironically, I think Comyet and CQ created them very close in time and the two in canon have no connection, but the fandom linked them due to their conflicting purpose.
So glad I finally got around to watching this! I was in the fandom during the height of AU creation and after seeing so much ridicule of it, so many creators either abandon their projects or turn out to be bad people, and just general shunning of something that would otherwise be harmless fun, seeing a video like this that examines that era of the fandom with so much genuine interest and enjoyment of the AUs in question is such a welcome breath of fresh air. Yes it was a messy, chaotic, and confusing time in the fandom's history and even today its influence hasn't ever really left, but I DO think that AUs have the chance to explore the story we got in the canon game in ways that we otherwise couldn't and allow for some genuine, harmless fun with a game that we really love. My heart goes out to all my fellow fans and creators of this game that are still finding joy in engaging with their favorite game and to those out there that are still throwing their hats into the AU-creation ring despite all the backlash it has gotten over the years. Y'all are so insanely creative and never cease to amaze me. Stay determined!
im so mad that i can name almost every au in the thumbnail (besides for the one that looks like gaster though that could be echo but with a orange eye and the one behind reaper with the red scarf)
i was deep in the nichest of those trenches in 2016. i remember i was mutuals on tumblr with a bunch of undertale fanfic blogs and all of them had their favourite AU skeleton that they shipped themself with and I made fanart of them. mine wasn't even a sans or a papyrus, it was the underswap version of napstablook. i remember reading pj's daycare when i was like 11-12. none of these words are in the bible. i hope those fic writers are doing well. i've never felt more vindicated than that time when sans killed the queen by winning the tumblr sexyman poll
My personal favourite AU is FGoD (Forced God of Destruction), which is where Error doesnt WANT to destroy any AUs but is forced to by either a higher deity or the natural laws of the multiverse itself. This usually also includes the group labeled as the “Bad Sanses” also not wanted to harm people but having to because of an outer force, and the “Good Sanses” actually being really corrupt and shitty. The original is a fanfic series on Ao3 by harrish6, but there are HEAPSSS of versions of just this AU all over the fandom!! I definitely recommend this AU if you want something a little bit different :))
Personnally, while the concept that the Bad and Error aren't doing it 100% because they want to is an interesting AU concept, I tend to think it is ver annoying that it paints either the Star as evil, or clueless. Ink is especially likely in FGoD to suffer from it, which is my biggest beef. Because in some, Ink is presented as if he create the AUs himself and endanger the multiverse, in other, he is made unaware of something that is a vital part of the wellbeing of the Multiverse, the one thing he protect so it make him look very incompetent. When in his literal canon, Ink is kinda forced in his position. He can only live if AUs are created. It make sense for him to protect them and assist in their creation. You get a real problem if both Ink and Error are forced by another entity. Because they tend to be among the strongest and they can't break free ? You have a real problem there. There is a channel that had this concept, the channel of NQ15.
@@orianefaton1885 definitely valid criticisms!! i don’t see those in many fgod aus but it’s definitely in a lot of them. my favourite part about the whole AU concept is that anyone can make anything they want, i love adding my headcannons to existing characters, spinning them to my own perspectives and making my own whole new universe out of it. this fandom is really good in the fact it IS so open to every possible alternate universe that can possibly be thought of!!!
God the amount of FGoD knockoff fanfics people made when that story blew up was immense. I could not find a single au fanfic on ao3 without it being based off FGoD for like 2 years. I do love that story, it's one of the best written au fanfics out there, as well as one of the best Error written fanfics. But man, the amount of knockoffs it spawned was frustrating
I have such nostalgia for hansplates It was the first fanmade comic i read and the writing is impeccable. Plus it is hands down the best depiction of gaster i have ever seen. It feels canon material
Aaay Handplates! I haven't kept up with it in a while but I think the artist actually completed it recently! Another au I always liked was Insomnia. Mostly for the worldbuilding, honestly: the artist had the genius idea to tie color theory and the science of visible light into how soul-magic works. Undertale already had a lot of color symbolism but Insomnia really takes it through the roof as far as more subtle applications of color. I swear a single pixel of unanticipated color can mean something XD It's also just a really witty and well-drawn comic in general. (Also I really like how the artist draws Chara's hair, it looks like a leaf.)
As someone who makes aus (not for undertale, psychonauts) the main reason is. Fun. I love putting my favorite characters in situations or making them act differently or have other characters act like them in their own special ways.
As a person who made my own undertale Au, I must say im always upset when people say undertale was ruined by the Aus. They are generally so fun to make and deserve the live they get
17:09 About the handplates dub - the voice actor left the undertale community quite some time ago and is going by a different name now. He completely quit dubbing comics and became a vtuber (from what I was told) so the dub will never be completed sadly. The comic however is finished so it's worth reading when you get caught up

I may be late a bit from this community of ours-(bcs I was introduced to Undertale and the AU’s in 2019-2020) but- I still must say that people creates AUs gives us a base and a pov of how most AUs works. I would say Underverse did the most at show what it’s like to meet another version of yourself, we- you- ANYONE would either be freaked out, excited(for most people who already knew the AU theory), concerned(also for the one that knows the AU theory) and/or chill about it(which in most classic!sans’s reaction after already meet a dozen of himself). Thx to Underverse, most people have already became one of those “evil scientists”(=crazy theorists) that just speculate almost everything about the multiverse- if/or/and what-not.(coming from someone that won’t shut up about multiverse as you can tell from how long and pointless essay I’m writing) This parallel that we and most called “Underverse/Undertale AUs/multiverse of sanses AUs”- teaches us about the causes of our actions and consequences if we ever try messing with the time. Even if you turn the clock 1 second behind by science or- what not, it’ll damage the timeline, making parallel amongst parallel that is beyond imaginable. That is ofc just a theory-
Being an OG UTAU person, I watched so many things happen with the UTAUs. I’m even a proud creator of 2 lesser known AU’s! But I find it crazy to believe I used to know nothing about Undertale just 7 years ago, and now I know almost everything. I’m glad the fandom is still growing in remarkable ways

Big bang be like
@@h.annimations2536 wait but for real tho, Undertale was literally a big bang-
when the game released, the first few instances of fan content appeared literally a few days after it and then it spiraled from people realizing that they wanted MORE. When Underswap and Underfell barely became concepts, it sort of self-perpetuated, which sped up the explosion that is the Undertale Multiverse.
32:44 That's actually something I found really interesting about Underverse's incarnation of Ink Sans. Jakei is on record confirming him to be genuinely soul-LESS (namely because some fans were diagnosing him, cause there's always gonna be those who believe a character might have some type of mental issue or otherwise, right?), and that in turn brings me to _another_ thing I love about Underverse: the *_foreshadowing._*
Throughout Underverse, you got constant little nuggets of things being _not quite right_ in Sans's universe, or that Ink isn't to be trusted, or of Gaster being a top level threat, all of which come to a head in 0.4 (and the prologue for Season 2 for Sans's whole "owner" deal).
(he is the best example of Jakei adapting to the facts about the charaters that are part of Underverse)
She even put his dads in the omega timeline, something that unless you follow comyet and pay very close attention to Ink related stuff, people don't know.

Though a lot of worlds and projects have been left behind/finished, there’s always more like it up ahead. And now with deltarune, the train will go light speed.
Happy 9th Anniversary, UNDERTALE!!!
12:45 what's even funnier is that we're not even SURE this is Gaster, it's only assumed by the fandom, but nothing really confirms it
toby wouldn’t change it
I kinda feel like he’s the real Gaster, since he wears a black, Scientist-like outfit, and seems to be the most important out of the secret characters.
@@Turtleboilol the scientist outfit seems kind of a stretch to me. And important...it's just a fun value character that disappears once you talk to it. He's the most mysterious because he doesn't talk like the others, but maybe not the most important.
I too want to believe it's Gaster, but nothing's confirmed so I can't tell.

He’s in the middle of a small, isolated room, that’s why I said he seems to be the most important out of all the secret characters.

-Gaster Blasters are used by Sans, a skeleton.

Appreciate the research done!

If im correct there was a lot of missinfo being pread about that whole situation and I think it would've been just better not to mention it at all,,, again, loved the video it made me very happy to watch as someone whos very active in the fandom :D but that part left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth,,
Jael has spoken several times on the subject, and she herself has acknowledged that she screwed up everything that happened and even apologized, besides, what they are telling you is that you showed a screenshot that is not even her conversation, but a conversation between Camila and Crystal, to do that is irresponsible @@DefinitelyBoredOranges

That missspeak at 11:25 saying it was months and not years is one of the cruelest things a youtuber ever did
For me I love Ink sans as a character so much because of his flaws.

DustTale has been my favorite for a while now. I'm a sucker for "fallen hero" archetypes, combine that with the unique element of a game character grinding for and stealing your exp to weaken you. And Sans' purple eye is sick as well.
Inverted Fate is the absolute BEST AU, period. It's absolutely incredible and characterizes each and every character so well.

it's finished right? i read the whole comic up to the core part in 2020 (cuz the rest still wasn't done yet)
The Christmas party au webcomic dubs probably sent my life on an entirely different path.

the Underswap Creator quit because people were shipping Underswap Sans hard in rated 18+ content and wouldn't stop, causing the creator to become discouraged and depressed.

I'm rewriting this comment, as it seems the video delves into all AUs pre-pandemic, and I want to explain some things the video didn't include, that are pretty prevalent now
Underevent: a yearly event where a ton of upcoming AU projects are showcased so fans can be up-to-date on what AUs they could be looking forward to
UTSC: short for the Undertale Soundcloud Community; they've been around since 2016, but really only gained relevance after Deltarune Chapter 2 released, sparking a ton of new creators to create fan-made Deltarune content, and eventually create some of the best Undertale AU content the community's seen in years, such as original AUs that focus on the entire world of Undertale instead of just Sans, as well as revamping older AUs and making them better than they ever were
Fan-Games: same with the UTSC, they've been around for awhile, but have only been one-off boss fights, or unfinished demos, short horror games, or Sans genocide route fangames (I will have to admit a couple of them were actually pretty good, such as the CC!Storyswap Asriel Fight)
as of recent we've been getting fully fleshed out games, such as PS!Outertale, Undertale Yellow, and TS!Underswap, which are so good that even Toby Fox himself has acknowledged one of them (Undertale Yellow)
we also still get boss-fight fan-games, although they're higher quality than what we had before, and are very unique concepts (eg: Call Of The Void, La Jupo Vania, literally every Dusttale take)
that could be an entire video of its own
something tells me this will never end no matter what. and happy 9 years to Undertale
BTW Handplates the comic is complete, and there is a comic dub by Phoenix Prime up thats up to date if you still want to watch it, trust me, its awesome

Yes it was a messy, chaotic, and confusing time in the fandom's history and even today its influence hasn't ever really left, but I DO think that AUs have the chance to explore the story we got in the canon game in ways that we otherwise couldn't and allow for some genuine, harmless fun with a game that we really love.

i was deep in the nichest of those trenches in 2016. i remember i was mutuals on tumblr with a bunch of undertale fanfic blogs and all of them had their favourite AU skeleton that they shipped themself with and I made fanart of them. mine wasn't even a sans or a papyrus, it was the underswap version of napstablook. i remember reading pj's daycare when i was like 11-12. none of these words are in the bible. i hope those fic writers are doing well. i've never felt more vindicated than that time when sans killed the queen by winning the tumblr sexyman poll
DON'T REMIND ME OF PJ'S DAYCARE 🫣
I watched handplates YEARS ago, it was genuinely CRAZY. Thanks for reminding me of it, probably going to rewatch it
My personal favourite AU is FGoD (Forced God of Destruction), which is where Error doesnt WANT to destroy any AUs but is forced to by either a higher deity or the natural laws of the multiverse itself.

That is ofc just a theory-
I have more to explain. Just ask if you wanted another essay
