But I love that Abbey has gone the extra mile to put her money where her mouth is by attaining her trichology certification, taking hair science courses, sharing reputable resources, reaching out directly to brands, etc. Such an icon, you deserve all the love and followers Abbey!

Abbey! I remember telling you that the breakage you had via rice water was not protein overload, but was rice starch buildup on your strands that was making your hair brittle. This is exactly why the original Lao recipe includes the oil resins from specific tree barks and citrus peels to break up the starch molecules in the rice water and why current black naturals add oil to our rice water concoctions AND we also deep condition AFTER our rice water treatments as well. I'm so happy you realized that protein overload is not a thing. Congratulations on the growth, boo! ❤❤❤ Please do more videos like this.
There are so many people though who's hair gets stiff and breaks using protein heavy products, especially fine/bleached hair. It's s very confusing. Abbey says it means you are not conditioning enough but conditioners for damaged hair have protein in as well and my hair doesn't like it.
@@natmya243 Protein treatments usually have conditioning agents in them to aide in application, slip, combability, texture, cosmetic elegance, etc but those minimal amounts of conditioning agents aren't moisturizing enough alone when in the presence of a lot of protein. Protein rich masks should always be followed with low to zero protein containing moisturizing conditioners /masks at the very least. Also, if your hair is not porous (virgin hair, etc), it probably doesn't benefit from protein as much as someone with chemically treated hair. Since protein forms a layer to help fill in the gaps in the hair cuticles, if you don't have many gaps in your hair cuticles to begin with ... you get what I'm saying. But no, it doesn't "overload" your hair. It just doesn't provide enough hydration or lipid moisturization to the hair, so the hair ends up feeling brittle. Rice water however isn't a protein issue. It's a starchy carbohydrate issue lol.
@@bklynbutters13 Thanks for explaining. My hair is heavily bleached so it is really damaged but it hates bond products, K18 and olaplex and protein. I guess it needs hydration but I don't find hydrating products slippy enough as a lot of them have no silicone and my hair tangles something chronic. It's fine but there is loads of it and it's very long.
I'm middle aged and let me tell you protein overload was not a thing when I was growing up. What I have noticed is that when people moved away from more cleansing shampoos aka sulfates is when this protein overload thing popped up. Honestly I don't even think it's a lack of conditioning but simply product build up!
I always tell people that science is only right until it's wrong. At one point people were literally walking around unaware of gravity, so it's not that far-fetched that what everyone is saying about hair today is still going to be true tomorrow. We still have so much to learn about hair, we have to give ourselves grace haha
A lot of the questionable hair trends such as anti-silicone, protein-overload hysteria etc. came from the curly hair community. My conspiracy theory is that this happened because the mainstream brands and scientific research completely ignored us until recently. We relied on anecdotal experience to figure out what worked and what didn't. It is no co-indigence that that popular curly hair brands such as Shea Moisture or Mielle have a made-in-kitchen feel away . I am starting to see more R&D dollars poured into curly haircare so maybe, we will see the end of these bogus hair trends.
This left me with wanting so much more! Can we get an updated hair care routine include wash days? Also, will your hair guide be updated as you learn new things in your classes? BTW - this would have been a great video to plug your hair guide! Great video!
Remember when we all had perfect hair (as children). Using less bleach and heat styling does wonders for hair health, but for those of us that don't want to go back to that, thank you for your tireless pursuit of truth and stunning hair!! I find it easy to maintain my hair by keeping it shoulder length, too.
I’m the old days of makeup communities (Sigma boards and MakeupAlley), I had always heard to use protein treatments when you were going to deep condition because protein can make your hair very dry. Because of this, I always did intense protein treatments with a rich deep conditioning mask and my hair was always in incredible shape. Never heard of “protein overload” until YT.
There was a time I used to be afraid of everything protein related, but then I started using hydrolysed protein in diy masks and noticed how much bounce & strength my hair had. How come something demonised work so good on my hair I thought 🫣😅These days I look forward to proteins in products and don’t want to miss them at all. I think the damage you experienced may come from the starch in the rice waters. Yao Women traditionally add dried tea (camelia seed) bran which contains natural cleansing agents that I assume will cleanse those residues away while pomelo peels & other natural conditioning agents not displayed to the public are conditioning their hair.
The thing is at the time you could have been right but as science changes and evolves things change. So updating your opinion is natural and normal. People should realize that. You are always studying and learning so I’m sure things change. You are definitely an honest girl to me
Regarding being gentle when combing/brushing your hair, I’ve always been super gentle as I went to hairdressing college when I was 16/17 (though I left before I qualified) but I’ve been to hairdressers - not cheap ones I must add - and they’ve been super rough combing/wet brushing my wet hair and then blow drying. Like you say, you can be using all the best products but if you’re being overly rough with your hair, it’s going to get damaged! I treat my hair like spun gold! 🤣
Great video - I'm happy to actually hear someone admit to learning more and correcting a previously held belief. Too bad you're at your parent's house - that background is so nice. Just seeing something green behind you (even if it may not be real!) is a nice addition.
I really appreciate your points here. We have to allow people to learn and grow. It’s more of a problem when people hold fast to opinions without being open to being wrong or to facts changing. Once upon a time we were told asbestos was safe. It wasn’t. Perfect example just with more dire consequences than rice water. I’m grateful for all I’ve learned! ❤
This is so awesome that you made this video and being honest about your mistakes, lots of respect for that. I always found the rice water thing strange as I assumed rice as a food doesn’t have protein, and surely the water must not have much. I have used the redken protein shampoos for years and never had protein overload or breakage issues, my hair was actually really good. So it makes sense that protein overload doesn’t exist
I learned that everyone’s hair texture and scalp is different. It’s matter of trial and error and research to find products that’s a good match for our haircare. I love Pantene and have used it for years. I stopped buying after the hype about how bad Pantene has gotten due to reformulation. I actually love the original Pantene. There’s something truly special about the OG model. The problem with shampoo industry is they keep changing the formula and ruining out hair. Right now I’m using Pure Volume Abundance Aveda shampoo with Scalp solution treatment once a week. So far my hair and scalp is not oily. and then I use Carol’s daughter leave in mask to rinse. No issues whatsoever. Aveda is a little but on the pricy side but that makes my hair happy I’ll stick to that. I need to try the trial size volume Pantene. Thank you Abby and your soft toned blonde hair color looks fabulous on you. Gives you that sunkissed glow
In the spirit of acknowledging times we were wrong… I was initially pretty derisive when you said that water caused damage to the hair. I thought you had misunderstood the hair science, but I now acknowledge it was me that was wrong, and you are 100% correct!
I have been using Pantene for YEARS! Even when everyone (Including my hair dresser which I have the upmost respect for) was say noooooo it’s so bad for your hair! My hair would always look so good. I 1000% agree with it is a combination of things that make your hair healthier. I have started using the Pureology leave in and the Olaplex oil (on my ends) and I limit the use of hot tools. My hair is in fantastic health now. My hair dresser had a wreck and broke her arm. It has been 19 weeks since I had a haircut and I have ZERO split ends. My hair is out of shape and needs to be thinned but no split ends! 👏👏👏
Why don't you delete the videos that have misinformation? Because this video doesn't erase that, and do you link this video to every video you've done that needs to be corrected?
@@BlingyBea right I'm super forgetful so I'll def end up watching an older vid and wondering if it's all true or not. Which I mean I do tend to look at multiple sources when I'm interested in a topic, but sometimes I do just trust her because I assume she's knowledgeable from everything else she's been right about and well she's gorgeous
I find that hairdressers always brush tangly wet hair so roughly like you did in that vid 😂 The next time a hairdresser does this to me, I'm intervening right away!
My old hairstylist tried to be gentle, but she always used this fine tooth comb to comb out my hair after washing it without any leave in conditioner to help give it slip. I have very fine, very dense wavy/curly blonde hair, so it took absolutely forever and ended up being more rough on my hair than necessary. I wanted to be like GIRL just give me like 30 secs with some leave in and a tangle teezer
Thank you for clarifying the protein buildup claim-I’ve been following you for a couple of years now and remembered you talking about protein overload, then a few weeks ago you said that isn’t a thing and I was so confused 😅
She is taking one person's expert opinion. Another expert could have a different opinion. Also many people will tell you when they use protein heavy products makes their hair dry. When your hair is dry it is brittle. So I still believe people need to be careful with protein products and balance that with moisture
This is such an amazing video! I feel that sometimes opinions change with new studies. I would like to see you do is explaining hair breakage, or hair growth because sometimes I don’t know if my hair broke off or if it’s new growth. Thanks for this video!
Hi Abbey! Was wondering if you could do a video about hair care tips on how to limit damage with lots of swimming (in pool & salt water)? With the summer coming up I know I’ll be spending a lot of time in the sun and water and don’t want to ruin my hair! If you have any tips, thank you 🙏
Even though you don’t have permanent extensions, I would love videos on how to care for you own hair and permanent weft extensions. My own hair is fine and curly and the weft extensions are thick and wavy. Not really sure how to care for both. Love your videos🌸
For 42 yrs( excluding child hood)I washed or rinsed my hair( it's undyed) everyday, then horror of horrors, just kidding I would braid it wet and sleep, then in the morning I rewet it and blow dried .Then about 1 year ago ( I'm 55 so I've been at this a long time)I started following utube "advice" and only washing every 2 to 3 days and not getting it wet in between and my hair started falling out!!!! I had hair to the middle of my back and had been in menopause for 6 years already with no issues until doing what the internet said to do now its unfortunately to my collarbone due to having to cut it, so my advice is if it works don't mess with it hashtag wet hair don't care!!!!!
Hi Abbey! Have you ever tried Curlsmith Bond Curl Rehab Salve? It is/was very popular in the curly community as a dupe for Olaplex in a way because it's supposed to repair the bonds in the hair (all three types of hair bonds that make the hair structure). If you have tried it, I would love to hear your opinions since I trust your reviews the most! Much love from Croatia 💞
absolutely adore this video idea. learning something new that disproves something we once believed to be true and owning up to it is real growth and progression. living for it 👏🏼❤️
Funny thing about the protein overload is that I knew about what you said without knowing it. My hair used to feel brittle after a protein treatment until I started using a moisturizing or noirishing mask afterwards. The moisturizing one has to be a very liquidy hair mask... here in Brazil I use Pantene Bamboo. In the nourishing side, recently I tested Briogeo Avocado and it also worked like a charm. Another one that I loved is Kerastase Oleo Relax. On both cases, I don't do the time the producer establishes. It never works for me. It is always between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the mask.
I love this right from the intro. Sometimes the more ya learn the more you realize u don’t know. I totally respect that you made this plus learned a few things!

I so appreciate your growth mindset and how ethical you are as a content creator! The face you made when you said "I don't think I was even using leave in conditioner" was priceless. I mean do you even use leave in conditioner bruh haha
I’ve been also following a chemist on TH-cam, Lab muffin beauty science, and she just came out with a video talking about how hair care studies are a really hard thing to pin down because of so many moving variables.
That’s the PERFECT hair color, Abbey!! Perfect shade of blonde. Looks so healthy and gorgeous with your skin tone. Don’t touch it! Maintain that color. So much shine and volume. ❤
When I first dipped my toes into ingredients-based skin care a year ago, I watched this guy on TH-cam who kept saying that so many products were must-haves and they would do all these amazing things and how. every routine means them… A few months later he was saying that he hates all those products and would never recommend them again. And not just the a brand, the ingredients themselves. I got so mad watching those because I was like, “dude, I bought all of those because you basically convinced me that I needed it now you’re saying that their crap!” Luckily I got them all from the ordinary while they are on sale even, so I wasn’t out a lot of money. But sadly, I have super sensitive skin and in particular eyeballs, and I reacted to over half the products. All of this is on me, but I learned my lesson to never go out and buy things without doing a TON of research. (Even though nobody can predict if they are going to react to things…that’s still a wild card). LONG story short, I refer to this channel to help me feel more empowered as a consumer 💓
I feel like the channel you are describing sums up 90% of TikTok.. Watching Tiktok for skin care, hair care, makeup recommendations, etc will put people in bankruptcy! haha The same creator over there will have a different must have favorite face wash every day! I feel like Tiktok is a bunch glorified commercials..
Abbey, have you done a video on your whole bleach/colouring hair journey? I have been getting blonde foils for years, and am thinking of giving the bleach a rest to try to repair my hair 🙂 Would love to see a video on when you started bleaching and/or colouring, to now 🙂
I feel like whatever shampoo I use and no matter how much time passes between 2 washes, my hair is oily already on the 2nd day 😭😭 it’s just so hard to figure these hair stuff out cause most shampoos and other haircare products come in sizes that last for months so it’s hard to test out new stuff.. anyway.. your new hair color looks amazing 😊
Maybe a weird question but do you clean your brushes regularly? Sometimes it's not the shampoo but something completely different. A dirty brush might be the issue. Cleaning your hair with shampoo and then brushing it with a dirty brush might cause the issue. Brushes should be cleaned about once in a month. Not sure if this helps but hope it does! 🤗
@𝑁𝑜𝑒𝑏𝑖 also try the reverse wash where u do conditioner first then shampoo. also dry shampoo but i’ve heard it’s bad for your hair (idk how true) but a good cheaper alternative is some talcum or baby powder! just sprinkle some in your hand and rub it in the areas that are oily, normally scalp. also try a clarifying shampoo and if it’s just your scalp that’s oily don’t use conditioner at all on scalp just ends. works for me, i just wash twice a week and air dry then depending either straighten, or use a smoothing cream & texturizing spray and leave it wavy just straightening some of hair around face. good luck hun
@@angelrose7451 Thanks! :) I actually clean both my makeup- and hairbrushes ~1x a week. Not sure if I can see a change but it is definitely more sanitary haha.
I have the exact same problem. I went to Aveda salon for facial and scalp consultation. The guy at the salon recommended 2 different products to choose. Scalp Solution (clarifying shampoo)or Pure Volume Abundance Shampoo. I bought trial size scalp solution and bought regular size pure volume abundance shampoo. Girlll I’m on day 2 now after using both and zero oil! It’s still soft and smooth. You should check out Aveda products. A little wee bit on the pricy side but the shampoo itself is great. As for hair mask, I use Carol’s daughter from Ulta as I treat for 5 minutes before rinsing out. Then I use Quai hair oil on the ends before blow drying. My hair is pretty healthy and have no oily hair this far. The shampoo smells like a minty spa smell which I love.
I think pantene is one of the best drugstore shampoos out there, even over professional. And ive used a ton of professional shampoos $30 -40 a bottle. To me they still were drying for my hair. And as for clarifying shampoo, unless you have oily hair, I don't think people need to use a clarifying shampoo every week, maybe once every month.
But even by what you're saying and what she said (I watched the video) protein overload might be an incorrect term, but it's still a case of too much protein vs moisture/conditioning ingredients. So protein moisture imbalance is a much better term, but in the end it's kind of a distinction without much of a difference. People are still experiencing the effects of too much protein. I think saying that protein overload "doesn't exist" is not the best way to address this because it makes it seem like people are imagining the effects of protein being "too much" due to imbalance with conditioning ingredients.
Omg thank god for this video 😂 the protein thing has been confusing me for years and I literally have a science degree I bought that pink packet of hask conditioner and it’s the best thing I’ve ever used, I was PRAYING I wouldn’t have a “protein overload” problem from the keratin.
Its just semantics. Protein without enough moisture CAN make your hair dry and brittle and therefore can break off. So, for lack of another term, “protein overload” was born to describe it. Protein needs moisture to combat the brittleness and dryness it can cause whether in the same product or another product post protein use.
Good to hear that! Two of the MOST damaging and over looked things we do to our hair are improper detangling snd how we wear it up! The worse breakage culprits, with out a doubt.
I absolutely love your commitment to accuracy, Abbey! We learn new things all the time, and I appreciate you taking the time to go back and explain your old thinking vs. new thinking. Thank you and keep it coming! 🙏💞
Everybody grows, learns and opinions change over time. My taste in almost everything... clothing, makeup even food has changed over the years. With maturity comes wisdom. Many blessings!!!💖💖💖
So funny you mention Pantene! It is never a brand I turn towards and had a relatively bad perception of it but I recently used their clean shampoo at a friends house and was so surprised at how great and cleeeean my hair felt! It felt great. Your right when you say sometimes, your hair calls for different types of shampoos depending on its state! 😊
Much respect for you Abbey for being truthful. It’s all trial and error and we learn as we go, but not many would point out the mistakes they have made and be honest about it, so thank you! Your hair is fabulous!!
The hair brushing. Oooo I understand that ♡ I appreciate you being so transparent that you call yourself out and set yourself straight. Nobody is right all the time. You are the most knowledgeable I know for hair.
I totally agree!! I can relate too. I was almost platinum blonde for many years. I cringe when I look back and see my hair. Everybody always told me how pretty my hair was… Now I know they were talking about my long curls not my color😂
Exactly! Protein rich treatments are usually mislabeled as deep conditioners when in actuality they're treatments that should be followed by a moisturizing conditioner.
im all for change in opinion and admitting learning new information, thanks for letting us know!! this only bothered me once when the youtuber i followed changed their mind like every 2 weeks after i bought their recommendations so i definitely appreciate u researching thoroughly before sharing with us
Love that you did these updates! I have an off-topic question for you though--I've been following your hair care routine and I've now been able to grow my hair unlike I have before, so thank you! But, I'm going on a 9 day vacation soon and doing a full wash day routine won't be possible. What would you recommend as the bare bones minimum routine to follow to keep your hair healthy when traveling? I need less products for my carry on! Maybe others have this question too since summer travel time is coming!
I 100% agree with publicly changing your understanding and continuing to learn. I actually think you should go a step further and delete those videos since they deliver old and possibly incorrect information. Why contribute to the problem when you can be part of the solution?
I'm writing my thoughts as I watch the video. 1. Thank you for debunking the protein overload myth. I'm so fed up of the bad science out there. The whole protein/moisture balance is also bullshit. 2. I love pantene. They have so many options. They use to have the most obnoxious fragrance, but they toned it down. I talk about the daily moisture renewal conditioner to everyone that is willing to listen. It's the perfect middle of the road moisturizing conditioner for fine bleached hair. Not too heavy, but not too light like a lot of silicone free volume conditioner. 3. One thing I would like you to talk about is that you totally don't need to use a matching shampoo and conditioner. If you have a very oily scalp but chemically processed hair like me you might need a strong shampoo, but the matching conditioner might be too lightweight.
I always say what works for you, do that. Personally, I have found my hair looks / feels the best when I use more clean, higher priced items. My favorites are Fable and Mane, Rahua, BurBur, and The Innate Life (I do not bleach my hair so it is not bleach damaged and I stay up to date on trims). I also 100% recognize that their are girls with long, beautiful, healthy hair that use drug store products. Every one is different and should just use what works best for them.
I would advise deleting or amending old videos,as I for one have spent money in product due to your recommendation. This would save people a lot of money

You are truly an amazing person. It takes a lot of courage to admit a mistake. I appreciate you so much for this video. Now I know for sure that I will listen to you and not any other TH-camr who only tries to sell me products
I respect your transparency and honesty. It’s rare these days. These types of videos are important, and you could totally tag this video to the older videos you are referring to.
I think rice water is like starching your hair. The starch is really all that seems to be in there that would do anything, I was surprised it did anything to my hair, it did make it really soft, but I think it comes from the Yao women & I don't think they use the rice water very often themselves, it seems to be more of a communal ceremony thing from what I've seen. Maybe using a product with rice water as an ingredient, which I think I've seen before, could be better for more frequent use
Okay I’ve got a question about dry shampoo! A hairstylist I know discourages use of dry shampoo for causing breakage bc she says that it builds up on your scalp and as hair grows from your scalp it either blocks the hair follicle completely or causes damage as that hair is growing out of your scalp… From your research is there any truth to this claim? I feel like for most of us, dry shampoo is only used 2-3 days before washing and if we thoroughly clean our scalp on wash day, build up for a couple days shouldn’t be a huge issue right? Thanks for all you do Abby ❤
I had a stylist say the same thing, she will not use dry shampoo. I will say that it does leave build up in my hair and I don’t love that. I’ve also experienced hair loss/breakage in my widows peak area on both sides of my head, but that could be many things from aging (menopause) , wearing my hair up too often…but it does make me wonder if dry shampoo plays any role?
For me it was true. Specifically got scalp acne in the exact locations I was putting it in my hair. BUUUUTT. I was letting my scalp build up with 3 days worth of oil, then would cake dry shampoo on for another 3 days straight without washing, and I did not know anything about proper washing/double shampoo/clarifying my scalp. And then I'd often put heavy product on my whole head of hair to compensate for how dry the ends were. Now I use a powder dry shampoo on the hair while avoiding the scalp and if I know it's the time where my scalp is starting to get that residual feeling, that's just the signal it's time to shampoo (and condition of course). Voila. No more clogged follicles or scalp irritation.
A suggestion, from a pro web designer who has had to do things like this in the past. I don't do YT, so I could be wrong. I know you can't edit the old videos, but you can change the description and (I think) the thumbnail image. Can you add some boilerplate text to the top of the descriptions on old videos, saying you have newer info available? And maybe add the words "Out of Date" to the thumbnails? This won't stop the comments, but will let anyone who bothers to look see that you have newer, better info on a different video. [I usually post about cosmetic formulation ... that's one of my hobbies. My profession is web designer, currently working for a major financial institution.]
After experiencing a lot of hair shedding and breakage I started using the Redken acidic bonding shampoo, conditioner, and leave in conditioner about a month ago. However, it leaves my hair dry and frizzy. Using my straightener I can get it to look ok. Why would it make my hair look worse? The breakage and shedding have improved significantly. I also added a shower filter about the same time. Redken was definitely a splurge so I’m disappointed in how it makes my hair look and feel.
I absolutely love this!! I am the same way, no problem correcting myself at any point. This video is huge because it makes space for the conversation of updated information in a society that's not often forgiving. ❤
Best clarifying shampoo I’ve ever tried is the Colorproof Detox shampoo. It’s color safe, it’s amazing for people who have oily hair as well. I believe they changed packaging and it’s called clear it up now. Jim Markham, creator of Pureology, made the line after his non compete was up. I like the whole line.
Can I just say your warm-toned blonde suits you so much better than your previous icy blonde!!!!
OMG agreed I cringe at the icy blonde now haha thank you!!
To me it's the other way around. Especially with eyes like that.

I guess it needs hydration but I don't find hydrating products slippy enough as a lot of them have no silicone and my hair tangles something chronic. It's fine but there is loads of it and it's very long.
@@natmya243 I'm sure there are others, but Amika Soul Food is protein free, super moisturizing, has silicone, and a lot of slip imo.
This is the #1 problem with social media imo. Too many people out there with zero knowledge base giving shitty information then people follow.
Bingo!
Remember when there was no social media and people would think for themselves and choose to use what they like?
I'm middle aged and let me tell you protein overload was not a thing when I was growing up. What I have noticed is that when people moved away from more cleansing shampoos aka sulfates is when this protein overload thing popped up. Honestly I don't even think it's a lack of conditioning but simply product build up!
I always tell people that science is only right until it's wrong. At one point people were literally walking around unaware of gravity, so it's not that far-fetched that what everyone is saying about hair today is still going to be true tomorrow. We still have so much to learn about hair, we have to give ourselves grace haha
It’s so refreshing to hear someone go back on what they said! You go girl!!!❤
So brave Abbey ❤ I wish more people were willing to admit they learn new things😊 thank you for your hard work over the years!
I agree 100%.
I am a curly and yes, some people in our community just won’t stop vilifying silicones when they would be our FRIEND in fighting frizz.
This left me with wanting so much more! Can we get an updated hair care routine include wash days?
Also, will your hair guide be updated as you learn new things in your classes?
BTW - this would have been a great video to plug your hair guide!
Great video!
Yes! The hair guide won't change because it's based on my routines, but future guides will include my learnings for sure!
Thanks, Abbey! Your honesty and integrity is so very appreciated!
Thank you so much!!
I’m surprised more channels don’t do this. Thank you!!
You have completely changed my haircare routine. I appreciate all of the work you have put into the videos you post.
Your hair color NOW it is THE HAIR COLOR FOR YOU! You look younger and I don’t know: Healthier 😓?! It makes you glow!!
Would love a review of all the Pantene lines you’ve tried!
You ROCK!!! Nothing shows more wisdom and growth than admitting past mistakes. Keep up the great work! 💞👍🌟
I’m new here and I was going to go back and watch older videos, guess I won’t now. That would be very helpful.
@@StonedSammieSue her hair is stunning
I find that hairdressers always brush tangly wet hair so roughly like you did in that vid 😂
The next time a hairdresser does this to me, I'm intervening right away!
Ok right I've had that happen so many times over the years. Do it!!
Definitely need a different stylist if they do this.
@@jmkcr I've never had a hairdresser that doesn't do that.
@LL I was just about to say, I'd be looking some time! I've been to SO many salons and they all do it 😖🤣
Thank you for clarifying the protein buildup claim-I’ve been following you for a couple of years now and remembered you talking about protein overload, then a few weeks ago you said that isn’t a thing and I was so confused 😅
THAT is a real professional... showing how it should be done!!! You continue to impress Abbey!
Abby can you recommend a hair care routine for frizzy menopause hair . Thank you. Your hair looks amazing 😊
Much love from Croatia 💞
absolutely adore this video idea. learning something new that disproves something we once believed to be true and owning up to it is real growth and progression. living for it 👏🏼❤️
this so humble and true, now I’m DEFINITELY keeping up with the channel
I'm not afraid to publicly admit I'm wrong about something either. It takes courage and bravery. 🤔😁👍🏻👏🏻🥰
I love this right from the intro. Sometimes the more ya learn the more you realize u don’t know. I totally respect that you made this plus learned a few things!
Adaptation & growth is necessary for growth. It’s humbling & a learning experience. That’s why I take advice with a grain of salt. Everyone’s body is different. But I personally love your content!.
I so appreciate your growth mindset and how ethical you are as a content creator! The face you made when you said "I don't think I was even using leave in conditioner" was priceless. I mean do you even use leave in conditioner bruh haha
can you do a video on what steps we should take once we dry our hair? like what products/sprays are best to use and in what order?
This needs to happen more with all creators & influencers. Kudos to you!!
I just binge-watched a lot of your hair videos today and I think I have to rethink everything I thought I knew about taking care of my hair 😳
Everyone changes. Hair changes. Also what we know about hair and products change too. Thank you for this video.
I have been getting blonde foils for years, and am thinking of giving the bleach a rest to try to repair my hair 🙂 Would love to see a video on when you started bleaching and/or colouring, to now 🙂
Yes!!! I’m looking for that too, did you find it?
@@stayy_lokeyy Thank you!! I might try a clarifying shampoo!
Omg thank god for this video 😂 the protein thing has been confusing me for years and I literally have a science degree
I bought that pink packet of hask conditioner and it’s the best thing I’ve ever used, I was PRAYING I wouldn’t have a “protein overload” problem from the keratin.

CAN YOU PLEASE do a video on If air drying or blow drying is healthier??
Abbey you’re becoming my favorite content creator I love you so much you’re so genuine and down to earth
We're learning & growing as you learn & grow. Thank you!
Your transparency is so appreciated and helpful ! Thank you for doing this.
I know the prev videos are intended for other purposes….but…..Living for this hair color on you! ❤
Yes I think the issue with protein is people not following it with a moisturising product!
I mean, there is still lots of people who upload and/or still uploading misinformation
Abby, given your exceptional transparency.... I would trust you with my life.
💖
If you have a very oily scalp but chemically processed hair like me you might need a strong shampoo, but the matching conditioner might be too lightweight.
so wise 🫶🏽
I always say what works for you, do that. Personally, I have found my hair looks / feels the best when I use more clean, higher priced items. My favorites are Fable and Mane, Rahua, BurBur, and The Innate Life (I do not bleach my hair so it is not bleach damaged and I stay up to date on trims). I also 100% recognize that their are girls with long, beautiful, healthy hair that use drug store products. Every one is different and should just use what works best for them.
I would advise deleting or amending old videos,as I for one have spent money in product due to your recommendation. This would save people a lot of money
I love your videos! And I really love that you took the time to discuss the importance of us to admit when we’re learning!!!!We’re all human & can’t ever always be correct! It’s obvious you care a lot about being honest. You also do a wonderful job with research as well as supporting it!
You are truly an amazing person. It takes a lot of courage to admit a mistake. I appreciate you so much for this video. Now I know for sure that I will listen to you and not any other TH-camr who only tries to sell me products
I won't let my husband "brush" his hair. TY Abbey, you are helping me save my hair!
What lip combo are you wearing here? It looks so pretty!!
So much integrity and dedication to your audience! I love having this channel to get accurate info from. Thank you!!
Okay I’ve got a question about dry shampoo! A hairstylist I know discourages use of dry shampoo for causing breakage bc she says that it builds up on your scalp and as hair grows from your scalp it either blocks the hair follicle completely or causes damage as that hair is growing out of your scalp…
From your research is there any truth to this claim?
I feel like for most of us, dry shampoo is only used 2-3 days before washing and if we thoroughly clean our scalp on wash day, build up for a couple days shouldn’t be a huge issue right?
Thanks for all you do Abby ❤
I’ve been wondering this too and can’t find anything on it
I had a stylist say the same thing, she will not use dry shampoo.
Great video ! I wish more people with an audience would be as open to self reflection.
This is a great idea!! Thank you!
I respect you so much for this! We love a queen that believes in science
I absolutely love this!! I am the same way, no problem correcting myself at any point. This video is huge because it makes space for the conversation of updated information in a society that's not often forgiving. ❤
I've used Pantene for the past 25 years. It is the only thing that makes my hair feel soft and conditioned
Yes update your older videos. Thanks I watch your videos and have yo select a bond treatment routine. My hair is needing repair.
