- Welcome to this Vagus Nerve Support Meditation, a 25-minute yoga nidra practice guided by Loren Runion.
This practice has been created to help you support the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is your 10th cranial nerve and plays a large role in the parasympathetic nervous system and relaxation. We support and tone this nerve by doing practices that utilize the nerve and therefore create more "traffic" along the nerve.
It works a lot like a muscle. The more you do nourishing practices that support accessing a calm state the easier it is for your body to reach these states and come back to a state of balance.
All yoga nidra meditations help support the parasympathetic nervous system and vagus nerve. This meditation in particular focuses on the path of the vagus nerve and exercises that help you increase vagal tone such as deep diaphragmatic breathing.

Dear Nidra Friends, If you listen to this meditation and the background music sounds like it's fading in and out here is what to do. First, this is not my editing, this a relatively new setting in TH-cam and it is happening because it is a watersound that I have wayyy lower than my voice sound. To turn OFF the setting in TH-cam making the volume go up and down do the following:
From your device:
1. Click on the gear icon on the video (settings)
2. Turn OFF "Stable Volume".
I have noticed this on other nidra's from other teachers so you can also change this as a setting in your TH-cam by the following:
1. Tap your profile picture
2. Tap settings
3. Tap General
4. Turn stable volume off
Hope this helps improve your experience!
Loren
Many blessings to you ❤ sharing with my adult children 17- 24 yrs . I wish I had this when I was 16 . Go Loren , your a blessing to earth 🌍 beings
Thanks so much Rachel. You are so kind. I wish I could get my 16 yo to practice yoga nidra!
Thank you ! I noticed that the water sounds get louder after Loren speaks. I think I would prefer the background water sounds to always be at the same volume instead of getting softer and louder. Much appreciated for everything you do !
Thanks for practicing with me Dan! I appreciate the feedback but the background sounds are the same throughout the track, I do not edit them to be louder when I'm not talking.
Thanks Loren. Yes the water sounds stop when you are talking and start up again in the gaps. This does detract a bit from the lovely sense of calmness you are creating
Take a listen and you will see what Dan means.
Hi John, thanks for practicing with me. I took a listen again and I still hear water sounds when I'm talking. These meditations are always best with earphones. Sorry to hear you both felt distracted, hopefully you find another meditation on the channel you like.
I did notice that as well. With earphones. Was still a great meditation! 👍
Wonderful, thank you Loren! I really like it how you say at the end "as your practice of yoga nidra is now complete". It is very helpful! I love your content and really appreciate you. 😊
I like this too.
You're so welcome! Thank you for sharing that with me, it is always great to know when something is helpful and I should keep doing it!
Loved the gentle sounds of water, Loren - this really enhanced my practice, especially with your gentle, soothing voice. ❤️

I appreciate your yoga nidras very much.Thank you for the healing space that you hold and the guidance that you offer🙏💗☀️🙏
I was practicing with earbuds and I do agree with john, dan and susan... the sound comes and goes with your voice and the spaces in between. It was very distracting for me. Maybe you could give it another listen. You might get useful information for the making of your future yoga nidras and their soundtracks, or not. Can't please all the people all the time.
I will check other of your vagus nerve yoga nidras🙏😊
Hi again, Thank you so much for your feedback. I always listen to the feedback of my listeners. Here is how to fix the problem that some are having with the sound. This is a setting in TH-cam, and now how I have my audio edited so from a "get useful information for my future yoga nidras" standpoint, there isn't anything I can do except educate others on how to turn this feature off. It is happening because the background sound is lower than the talking sound, so the water doesn't overpower the voice. With a certain setting on, it is causing the up and down sound you are hearing. Here is how to turn it off:
