Fixing the CAT S Damage & those pesky Parking Sensors - My Maserati Granturismo project V8 - Part 10

  • Hi Everyone,
    So I finally get the bumper off and look at the Cat S damage that wrote this car off. Compared to Matt Armstrong Insurance write offs, this is like hangar rash. My main reason though was to look at the parking sensors as she is a big car and several times, I have struggled with reversing.
    So thanks to the forums, I found cheap parking sensors. Maserati ones are £151 each +VAT, but you can get Skoda ones that are identical for £13 off eBay.
    I tried replacing my module as I thought it was bad, but the new one was broken. I suspect that a previous owner had the front sensors disconnected in the software as apparently they can be annoying, but I want mine back. Unfortunately that will be a £115 visit to a specialist to do a Proxi Alignment, but at least it will also get rid of my flashing odometer.
    I also glimpse into the exhaust and its valves, but that is for another video...

    Great to see you making good progress and bringing her back to how she should be ! She went to the right home.

      Thanks very much. I think another few months as I slowly work through it all. The wheel refurb is on the list as every time I walk outside she is parked in such a way that some corrosion on the front wheel catches my eye. But that will be expensive so will have to wait till next year. I gave her the first polish the other day. I have not polished a car in years. How is the Fulvia progressing?

      @@SailingSVPipedream The Fulvia is being tedious ! As fast as I put new items on another issue occurs which stops me being able to continue. It doesn't help that the car is stored 90 minutes away. Need to get it back home really. That will make life easier. Hopeful to have it running next week though all things being well.

    Sorry for the late reply, Holiday weekend got in the way..lol.
    So far you're making the Masi look not much harder to work on than other cars. More expensive, but workable. Once the bumper was off it didn't look too bad, all covered when done.
    Looking forward to the exhaust video, I have one side rattling inside.
    Expecting a snow storm this week..yippee

      Yes, so far she has been quite easy to work on. I have managed to fit her in my very small garage now, safe from the snow and rain. Stay warm!

    My granturismo has a front parking sensor on and off switch next to the headlights.
    It’s normal setting is off so you need to turn it on to activate them.
    Standard headlight switch panels don’t have the switch option.
    Mine works perfectly 😊

    • @SailingSVPipedream
      @SailingSVPipedream  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I have that switch too, so I know it had the option from factory. Currently it does not do anything when I press it, so I think someone had the front sensors disabled . I am buying the original sensor module for her, so that may resolve it all. I am looking forward to having sensors as I finally reorganised my garage and can get her in, but it is a small garage and quite nerve wracking!

    Sounds like your doing the same job as me this weekend. Just installed my replacement parking sensor too, good to have the system working again.

      @SailingSVPipedream  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, at least we can reverse with more confidence now. I am not sure I trust them fully, but they do give a reasonable indication. I am looking forward to having the fronts too soon.

    On my 2009 Quattroporte there is an option in the infotainment menu settings to turn the front sensors on and off. Check yours to see if it's an option.

    • @SailingSVPipedream
      @SailingSVPipedream  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes thanks, I have that option. I did try it, but on the dash display it looks like there is no room for the front sensors, so I think someone had them turned off in the main software which apparently you can get done by a dealer.

      Are the Larini non-valved mufflers the same as the stock mufflers internally? Meaning do they too have this internal hidden sort of pressure valve?@@SailingSVPipedream

      @SailingSVPipedream  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@steliosmathioulakis6851 I think TH-cam took offence to a word in your comment and held it for review! I am wondering what is in the Larini boxes, I guess no one wants to cut them open! My understanding though is that they do not have valves, but not 100% sure on that.

    my granturismo didn't come with front parking censors. maybe you need coding on the instrument cluster?

    • @SailingSVPipedream
      @SailingSVPipedream  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      She has the option as the button is on the dash and the sensors are in the bumper. However I think some people get them turned off by the dealer as they are a bit annoying apparently. You can turn the front sensors off in the infotainment settings too. My instrument cluster looks like it does not have them so needs the coding, so yes I guess I will need to get them added back on. I heard the MC does not have the sensors in the bumper at all, so when people ‘upgrade’ to that bumper, they have to get the sensors removed from the car ECU. I do want them back on when funds allow as I worry that I am getting too close to my fence. In the meantime a well placed stick with some pipe insulation on it may be necessary to ease my nerves!

      @@SailingSVPipedream The mileage only started flashing when I changed the rear parking sensor module but that didn't solve the parking sensors not working. I still have the old module so maybe putting that back on might then not require a proxi alignment ?

    • @SailingSVPipedream
      @SailingSVPipedream  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Lee_Pitcher I reckon that would be worth a try. I found a bad sensor on the front as well as the two rear ones were stopping the module from working. I will send a text.
