i just ordered my first gigapower. sludge. i loved this video. it was really funny, and you kept ripping on the combiner dino bot set that i bought when i first started collecting. the G1 bit and dino bots not combining. you had me close to tears man. funny stuff.
Going back and watching this, I definitely think the Planet X dinos have held up the best style wise (in the chug scale). I know it’s the video game models but I think they still look great when I see them in collections, while a lot of the other options feel... dated. Love these discussion type videos, they have a lot of re-watchability lol, super good stuff 👍🏼
Wow. Such bashing on the Power of the Primes Dinobots. Not that it's entirely unwarranted. I'm collecting them, but Fans Toys are my main Dinobots and I couldn't be happier with them.
Great job. You hit all the notes needed to make it great. As for me, I will stick with official Transformers products, even though they are not as fantastic (understatement) as they should be. But I am a "purist" in a way because I only collect Transformers products and wallow in my bitter disappointment over how they are handling the toy collectors.
I can understand that completely. For me, I do appreciate what Hasbro has given us. Are they MP quality, not even close. But I appreciate what they have done, for those of nostalgia they have given a look that feels old school, for the kids they have given them a new transforming dinosaur toy. And that is the difference between what a 3P does and what Hasbro does. 3P is about the adult collector. Hasbro, on the other hand, is about getting products for all ages. So I can appreciate what they have done in that respect. The toys do look and work well if not perfect together as individual bots and dino's but that gestalt is what it is. A bit of a wreck. But I did not buy for the combination, I bought them as officially licensed representations of toys I enjoyed as a kid. And for me at least that is more important.
Great video. I got the Fansproject set and i am happy i did, BUT i do wish they were consistent and gave Grimlock a solid gold painted chest and all of them blue eyes in their modes, not just half of the set.

I wanted to get one or two just to have and I think I'm gonna go with Fans Toys Scoria. They seem to have quite a bit of appreciation within the community. Cheers.
I went with Fansproject's set, I have Slag and Grimmy so far and I'm pretty in love with them. I really dig alot of the changes they went with, it really gives them their own style and unique thing. I went with the Diaclone version of Slag because I just love that blue over the red. I'll see how I feel about the rest of them, Swoop looks kinda ehhhhh to me, but Snarl looks p great.
FYI (for the G2 Fanstoys set) - only those 3 were released by hasbro back in the 90s. There’s concept art for the Sludge and Swoop out there (Defensor and Menasor fall into this latter bucket too)...but they are pretty disgusting to look at (Sludge is blue and dark orange and Swoop is green and blue) so I don’t think FT will go down that path. I mean..they’re really gross...kinda glad hasbro didn’t go with them to be honest.
Hopefully, one day you'll get your hands on a release copy of Grassor and realize that the test copy you handled was not representative. I actually took your review at face value and avoided the GP set for over a year before finally taking the plunge. I'm glad I did. The GP dinobots are my favorite transformers currently and the only ones on permanent display.
SmokeForPants I had Gutter and Grassor and had seen bobby's review of Grassor so was always super delicate with the tails. 3rd time I transformed him from robot to triceratops the right side just fell off. The tail needed to be diecast like gutters tail. I sold up both which was a deal for the guy who got them and went in on the upsized DX9 in gold.

Personally the FaaaansToooys does it for me. But, honestly I really only wanted my favorite of the five; so I snagged FT Grinder and the G1 dino head at release. And I'm very happy with it. Great discussion, Mr. Skullface.
Planet X FTW for my Classics collection. Strong presence, great look, works perfectly in both modes and they are just freak'n awesome. Grimlock is an amazing piece, such a spectacular bot.

I have been on the fence as to whether to go with Fans Toys or Giga Power. I think I am going to go with Giga for my Dinobots. I do love both lines, but, I love the bulk of the Giga over the Ft. Thanks for doing the rundown on all these, Bobby!
I love the PX dinobots with my CHUG. They're reminiscent of IDW enough for me to where it works. And I don't own any MPs... too big for me, guys like Trypticon and Metroplex could never scale at all with them.
My first set of DB's was Toy Worlds I got them for dirt cheap and they are solid bots I got into the DB's later than most collectors due to which company I wanted to settle with now we fast forward a year later and today I officially collected all the Gigapower's released so far and P.O.'d there future coming rendition of Grimlock thanks for the great review Bob.

I bought Power of the Primes Swoop and it really suffers from having to be a limb, and the dinos don't come with a sword and a gun, that should be the bare minimum requirement. I've wanted a chug set of Dinos for years, I think the upscaled KOs of the DX9 legends might be the way to go.

I already committed 100% to FansToys Dinobots as I own all 5 of them, and I'm fine with it. They look the part, they scale well to me, and are amazing when standing all together next to each other.
At 3:00 , i had to rewind and pause to see what terrible image was just burned into my retinas...I wish i hadn't! Now i can't unsee the powder prime pretzel combiner! To add insult to injury, a light sprinkling of candy corn was splayed out at his feet! I don't know which is worse...get 'em outta here!!! Exceptional work with this video man, thanks!

I went with Gigapower for my masterpiece Dinobots as I feel that they should always TOWER above the Optimus prime of whichever scale you choose. The other thing that inspired my choice was that in the trailer for FOC, Grimlock towered over Optimus even though GP's aesthetic doesn't match FOC whereas Planet X' does. What i do find funny is that Guttur, the so far only GP Dinobot i own(I got to the party late and just got him about 2 days ago) is nearly the same size as Planet X' Genesis(WFC Omega Supreme) which I also own. Someone pray for my poor shelves and display cases:/

I liked Gigapower because as I told him before, I get G1 masterpiece styles for toys. I have no connection to the show since was born in 1990 and I only really paid attention to shows live with Armada, so it’s been the commercials on TH-cam that I see them through, and identifying with that as an interesting piece of a collection. Gigapower hits that toyetic feel way better especially with goofy lovable flame accessories and angry faces. Gigapower knows it’s a toy, albiet for adults with careful hands, and it relishes in it.
Because, those people did not or will not go for 3rd parties. So, Hasbro and Takara are the only choices. When you compare Hasbro standard to Hasbro, people just getting excited when they finally getting their beloved characters. After playing TF app game and being one of the top players, I disgusted by Hasbro forced game devs ripping off TF fans. Hasbro toys are similar too. They are able but choose not to make better toys...so, fans always need to get the "new" version in hope they will be better.
I've got the potp version because third party costs too much. yeah the potp hasbro version aren't great but they are alright. I sure don't like the plastic used on grimlock's chest (it feels like it might deteriorate at some point. I saw someone's deteriorate while keeping him in combined mode.) and how it comes undone when I move grimlock's arms. I don't like how the forearms come undone on swoop and snarl in combined volcanus mode. volcanus doesn't appear too stable in combined mode like it is going to fall over. I even bought Hungurr and it started marring where the spine tabs connect. because I was forcing the pegs in first unto the spine instead of aligning the spine first then along with connecting the shield. then finally tabbing the pegs on the side. then there is rippersnapper which had five stress lines on the port when I first put the abonimus' hand in. they weren't showing signs of cracking yet but I have alphabravo, blades, vortex, drag strip, offroad which all have cracks on the ports where the hands or feet peg in. I got so upset that I return both hungurr and rippersnapper. at times i'm tempted to pick up hungurr , blot, cut throat, and sinnertwin at walmart. even though rippersnapper is so hard to find and I haven't even saw him since on retailer. it is not easy to resist at times but I have resisted a couple of times while going there and checking them out a couple of times.
Nice overview. I have both the DX9 and the Fansproject sets. I'm happy with both. With both sets, I'd've liked the inclusion of toy-style rocket launchers. The DX9 set, I bought because the way they transform, as a set, is extremely clever. They are fiddly but not overcomplicated or flimsy and it is worth it to look good in both modes. They're not quite perfect for me as I'm not really a legends collector and I find the yellow too dull. As for the FansProject set, I still think I made the right choice as a CHUG collector. They have many flaws. Most frustrating are the hands which consistently fail to hold any of the accessories. They also made some business decisions that are irksome - higher quality paint apps only on the diaclone versions, randomly packed head colour for Cubrar and body colour for Volar, new characters introduced before finishing the main five, etc... In a parallel universe, hardcore G1ers have yellow paint on their Fanstoys and I have shiny gold chrome under smoked translucent on the sets I chose and don't have the nagging feeling of 'close but not quite perfect for me'! :-) There is a part of me that really wants gigapower... I agree with the criticism of PotP Dinobots. There are some decent mainline toys out there, but not the Dinobots. Disappointing considering the level of anticipation...
Thanks for this video! Problem is, I want a set my kids can play with, and don't want to insult them with the Hasbro nonsense (I don't think they 'get' the dinobots the way they do devastator). Are any of these curable enough to play with? ... Asking for my kids.....
I can definitely say that it is worth picking up the Planet X dinobots if you are collecting WfC/FoC. However, anyone wanting to collect them because they just look cool might have to pass them up. Some of the members are easier to get than others but Sludge is almost impossible to get unless they release a metallic version. Oh yeah, Paddles is the weakest release from the company that I'm aware of do maybe pass on that one. The main 5 though are totally worth it for the WfC/FoC collector. I just wish they were bigger...
Two things not mentioned about FAAAANS TOOOYS, the Marvel Comic referencing X-Series, and the Diaclone sub-line. I have them plus the standard line. He did inspire me to stick the Fans Project Lost Exo-Realm boys with the my TT display since Takara isn't doing a PotP version with better paint and such.
I got all the fanstoys. They're pretty good, but some are looking a bit dated now and they make odd design choices(absolutely hated those weird dots on sever's spines). Really hope takara does them
It sucks cuz I want chug styled dinobots that are big Bois, but I can’t get down with, like, any of their aesthetics. And the one or two who’s aesthetics I like are either bricks or tiny

Love this one here. I got the fanstoys dinos. They are the best choice. The thing i hate is i got 3 of the dinos. Snarl, swoop, and slag. I need a grimlock and sludge. These third-party companies not in a hurry to restock their lines. But giga powers dinos look good to. But I'm a fanstoys fan for life.
Personally I'm not too choosy. I have Iron Factory, GCreation, Planet X, Fans Toys, Fans Toys G2 and would like to pick up the DX9 ones some day. On the Powder Primes set I would recommend the Swoop as a stand alone. Admittedly I don't have Sludge and Snarl from Wave 2 yet, but of the 3 in Wave 1 Swoop was the only one worth near retail price.
I've gone Iron Factory but I will also go DX9 when Magic Square Toys start releasing their G1 Legends, I went Planet X, though I never got Slag, which I should at some point and will skip paddels, and I've gone Fans Toys with my Masterpiece. But, as you said, they all have their merits and place in your collection.
Hi bobby, I just started collecting dinobot mp and my first one is cesium from perfect fusion. I realized its bigger than fanstoys scoria.im not sure whether it can fit with other fanstoys dinobot. Should i getting gigapower or stick to fanstoys?
Takara Tomy's financials are not good ... and they might be getting bought out by Hasbro. Don't take it for granted the MP line will be going much longer, or that it will be concentrating on G1. If it does keep going priority seems to be on the movie designs anyways. We were never going to get a set of MP Dinos, but it'll suck not to get Jazz, Blaster, Mirage etc.
Watched this back when it came out, but the title caught my eye again and in my peripheral vison it looked like it said "Dinobot Party". I'd say that would be an equally appropriate title anyway.
I'm going for Giga and Fanstoys Dinos, thank goodness for the reissues. So far got 3 of the Giga Dinos and 2 of the Fanstoys Dinos. Just like you Bobby, Giga for Robit mode and Fanstoys for Dinosaur mode :)
The idea of Dinobots combining is most likely an homage to a 2004 comic called the Beast Within, where the Dinobots combine into a character called "The Beast"
G1 Dinobot fans triggered! LOL PotP Dinobot fans triggered! LOL Powder Primes! LOL I appreciate what Gigapower has done and if it wasn't for Fans Toys and the X series, I would have gone in on them. But for me, it's Fans Toys and the X version Dinos all the way and there's no looking back. Great video man!
I feel the same way, I really like the fan toys x but i couldnt justify $200+ a pop, so that in addition with other reasons, I went with Giga. I got the first three at less than $150 a pop.
The Fans Toys G2 Dinobots could very reasonably be considered "complete". They didn't release every deco out there, but they did do a deco for every G2 Dinobot that was actually released by Hasbro. That said Fans as a species are not known for being reasonable. Personally I'm in the process of trying to commission someone to repaint a FT Sludge and Swoop into the unreleased G2 decos that are floating around the internet to go with the 3 "official" FT G2 Dinos.
I went Gcreations and I am them all the way. I also got the fansproject raptors. They don't look to bad with the Gcreation set. I have an oddly scaled collection. Generally everything is based around Prime. But I have the MP-10 and I just got POTP Optimus and I am currently displaying him and MP is elsewhere. I may end up with Giga but they gotta be commited to finishing the line, and while I want it to be true that they are... I'd rather wait and see then spending 600 bones and not getting the other 2 or just missing out on one. Love my Gcreation set! Don't really care about the combiner aspect, but it does look sick as phuck!

Great video ! It is a very good summary. However I always ask myself a question... Is Perfect Fusion Cesium better than FansToys Scoria. Cesium seems to be a little bit bigger and seems to fit better with other FT Dinobots but I heard that he has some issues... Do you advise me to replace my Scoria ?
bought the dx9 set today for the crazy 20% off ebay sale, i intend to paint them in diaclone colors bc like the diaclones they are exactly 1/60 scale. I plan to sell my fanstoys diaclone scoria and grinder since while I love them I just dont have the space to support mp.
The unfortunate thing for me now is, that I waited to make the MP Dinobots a priority, and I want to go with Fans Toys but all of the regular versions of the Dibots are sold out at retail and price jacked on Evil Bay IF you can even find them. I still need Sever, Stomp, and Soar.
I knew from the get-go that I wanted my MP Dinobots in alt form, so I went with Fans Toys. No regrets whatsoever. Also, Dinobots should never combine. They're so much cooler as a team with enough muscle to take on a Combiner without themselves combining.
Stomp is quite a hurdle. The prices on him are redicilous. I saw his box being sold on ebay for $150 and that's just cardboard and plastic. The figure itself goes around for around $500 to $600 MIB nowadays.
@@richardsugai55 It is indeed cheaper to get them loose. I do like my boxes so I try to get my bots when they hit retail or at least MIB.. I've been collecting FT for a few years now so I'm kinda sitting on a goldmine here. No intention of selling them though. I only care for the best representation of the character in my mind and FT usually does that best as far as I'm concerned.

I have the Planet X set cause I love WFC and FoC with all my heart, had to skip lunch at school (a lot) to save up for all of them... Worth it!

I bought Power of the Primes Swoop and it really suffers from having to be a limb, and the dinos don't come with a sword and a gun, that should be the bare minimum requirement. I've wanted a chug set of Dinos for years, I think the upscaled KOs of the DX9 legends might be the way to go.

I already committed 100% to FansToys Dinobots as I own all 5 of them, and I'm fine with it. They look the part, they scale well to me, and are amazing when standing all together next to each other.
At 3:00 , i had to rewind and pause to see what terrible image was just burned into my retinas...I wish i hadn't! Now i can't unsee the powder prime pretzel combiner! To add insult to injury, a light sprinkling of candy corn was splayed out at his feet! I don't know which is worse...get 'em outta here!!!

I went with Gigapower for my masterpiece Dinobots as I feel that they should always TOWER above the Optimus prime of whichever scale you choose. The other thing that inspired my choice was that in the trailer for FOC, Grimlock towered over Optimus even though GP's aesthetic doesn't match FOC whereas Planet X' does. What i do find funny is that Guttur, the so far only GP Dinobot i own(I got to the party late and just got him about 2 days ago) is nearly the same size as Planet X' Genesis(WFC Omega Supreme) which I also own. Someone pray for my poor shelves and display cases:/

I liked Gigapower because as I told him before, I get G1 masterpiece styles for toys. I have no connection to the show since was born in 1990 and I only really paid attention to shows live with Armada, so it’s been the commercials on TH-cam that I see them through, and identifying with that as an interesting piece of a collection. Gigapower hits that toyetic feel way better especially with goofy lovable flame accessories and angry faces. Gigapower knows it’s a toy, albiet for adults with careful hands, and it relishes in it.
Transformers G1 was a great moment in my childhood.

I had a lot of fun with Titans Return ... so far POTP looks to be a massive disappointment. Doesn't look like it's going to be lasting long either.
Because, those people did not or will not go for 3rd parties. So, Hasbro and Takara are the only choices. When you compare Hasbro standard to Hasbro, people just getting excited when they finally getting their beloved characters.
After playing TF app game and being one of the top players, I disgusted by Hasbro forced game devs ripping off TF fans. Hasbro toys are similar too. They are able but choose not to make better toys...so, fans always need to get the "new" version in hope they will be better.
I've got the potp version because third party costs too much. yeah the potp hasbro version aren't great but they are alright. I sure don't like the plastic used on grimlock's chest (it feels like it might deteriorate at some point. I saw someone's deteriorate while keeping him in combined mode.) and how it comes undone when I move grimlock's arms. I don't like how the forearms come undone on swoop and snarl in combined volcanus mode. volcanus doesn't appear too stable in combined mode like it is going to fall over. I even bought Hungurr and it started marring where the spine tabs connect. because I was forcing the pegs in first unto the spine instead of aligning the spine first then along with connecting the shield. then finally tabbing the pegs on the side. then there is rippersnapper which had five stress lines on the port when I first put the abonimus' hand in. they weren't showing signs of cracking yet but I have alphabravo, blades, vortex, drag strip, offroad which all have cracks on the ports where the hands or feet peg in. I got so upset that I return both hungurr and rippersnapper. at times i'm tempted to pick up hungurr , blot, cut throat, and sinnertwin at walmart. even though rippersnapper is so hard to find and I haven't even saw him since on retailer. it is not easy to resist at times but I have resisted a couple of times while going there and checking them out a couple of times.

I have both the DX9 and the Fansproject sets. I'm happy with both. With both sets, I'd've liked the inclusion of toy-style rocket launchers.
The DX9 set, I bought because the way they transform, as a set, is extremely clever. They are fiddly but not overcomplicated or flimsy and it is worth it to look good in both modes. They're not quite perfect for me as I'm not really a legends collector and I find the yellow too dull.
As for the FansProject set, I still think I made the right choice as a CHUG collector. They have many flaws. Most frustrating are the hands which consistently fail to hold any of the accessories. They also made some business decisions that are irksome - higher quality paint apps only on the diaclone versions, randomly packed head colour for Cubrar and body colour for Volar, new characters introduced before finishing the main five, etc...
In a parallel universe, hardcore G1ers have yellow paint on their Fanstoys and I have shiny gold chrome under smoked translucent on the sets I chose and don't have the nagging feeling of 'close but not quite perfect for me'! :-)

I agree with the criticism of PotP Dinobots. There are some decent mainline toys out there, but not the Dinobots. Disappointing considering the level of anticipation...

My MP Dinobots are FT except for Grimlock - He's the OS MP-08X Reximus Prime. That paint job is beautiful

I can definitely say that it is worth picking up the Planet X dinobots if you are collecting WfC/FoC. However, anyone wanting to collect them because they just look cool might have to pass them up. Some of the members are easier to get than others but Sludge is almost impossible to get unless they release a metallic version. Oh yeah, Paddles is the weakest release from the company that I'm aware of do maybe pass on that one. The main 5 though are totally worth it for the WfC/FoC collector. I just wish they were bigger...
Even though I don't collect legends, I still really want those DX9 dinos. They are, as the kids say nowadays, "totes adorbs"
You are SO right to mock the POTP Volcanicus. I'm getting all of them (except Slash), but will never combine them.
Two things not mentioned about FAAAANS TOOOYS, the Marvel Comic referencing X-Series, and the Diaclone sub-line. I have them plus the standard line. He did inspire me to stick the Fans Project Lost Exo-Realm boys with the my TT display since Takara isn't doing a PotP version with better paint and such.
I got all the fanstoys. They're pretty good, but some are looking a bit dated now and they make odd design choices(absolutely hated those weird dots on sever's spines). Really hope takara does them
Base on the recent releases, Takara version may be most G1, but not flawless both look n build. Definitely not much diecast.
It sucks cuz I want chug styled dinobots that are big Bois, but I can’t get down with, like, any of their aesthetics. And the one or two who’s aesthetics I like are either bricks or tiny

Love this one here. I got the fanstoys dinos. They are the best choice. The thing i hate is i got 3 of the dinos. Snarl, swoop, and slag. I need a grimlock and sludge. These third-party companies not in a hurry to restock their lines. But giga powers dinos look good to. But I'm a fanstoys fan for life.
Personally I'm not too choosy. I have Iron Factory, GCreation, Planet X, Fans Toys, Fans Toys G2 and would like to pick up the DX9 ones some day.
On the Powder Primes set I would recommend the Swoop as a stand alone. Admittedly I don't have Sludge and Snarl from Wave 2 yet, but of the 3 in Wave 1 Swoop was the only one worth near retail price.
I've gone Iron Factory but I will also go DX9 when Magic Square Toys start releasing their G1 Legends, I went Planet X, though I never got Slag, which I should at some point and will skip paddels, and I've gone Fans Toys with my Masterpiece. But, as you said, they all have their merits and place in your collection.

I just started collecting dinobot mp and my first one is cesium from perfect fusion. I realized its bigger than fanstoys scoria.im not sure whether it can fit with other fanstoys dinobot. Should i getting gigapower or stick to fanstoys?

Takara Tomy's financials are not good ... and they might be getting bought out by Hasbro.
Don't take it for granted the MP line will be going much longer, or that it will be concentrating on G1. If it does keep going priority seems to be on the movie designs anyways.
We were never going to get a set of MP Dinos, but it'll suck not to get Jazz, Blaster, Mirage etc.
I don't have any 3rd party Dinobots, only one I have is Planet X Vulcan (FOC Grimlock), which I hope to follow suit & get the rest of 'em, soon.
Watched this back when it came out, but the title caught my eye again and in my peripheral vison it looked like it said "Dinobot Party". I'd say that would be an equally appropriate title anyway.
I'm going for Giga and Fanstoys Dinos, thank goodness for the reissues.

The idea of Dinobots combining is most likely an homage to a 2004 comic called the Beast Within, where the Dinobots combine into a character called "The Beast"

G1 Dinobot fans triggered! LOL PotP Dinobot fans triggered! LOL Powder Primes! LOL I appreciate what Gigapower has done and if it wasn't for Fans Toys and the X series, I would have gone in on them. But for me, it's Fans Toys and the X version Dinos all the way and there's no looking back. Great video man!
I feel the same way, I really like the fan toys x but i couldnt justify $200+ a pop, so that in addition with other reasons, I went with Giga. I got the first three at less than $150 a pop.
The Fans Toys G2 Dinobots could very reasonably be considered "complete". They didn't release every deco out there, but they did do a deco for every G2 Dinobot that was actually released by Hasbro. That said Fans as a species are not known for being reasonable. Personally I'm in the process of trying to commission someone to repaint a FT Sludge and Swoop into the unreleased G2 decos that are floating around the internet to go with the 3 "official" FT G2 Dinos.
I went Gcreations and I am them all the way. I also got the fansproject raptors. They don't look to bad with the Gcreation set. I have an oddly scaled collection. Generally everything is based around Prime. But I have the MP-10 and I just got POTP Optimus and I am currently displaying him and MP is elsewhere. I may end up with Giga but they gotta be commited to finishing the line, and while I want it to be true that they are... I'd rather wait and see then spending 600 bones and not getting the other 2 or just missing out on one.

bought the dx9 set today for the crazy 20% off ebay sale, i intend to paint them in diaclone colors bc like the diaclones they are exactly 1/60 scale. I plan to sell my fanstoys diaclone scoria and grinder since while I love them I just dont have the space to support mp.
The unfortunate thing for me now is, that I waited to make the MP Dinobots a priority, and I want to go with Fans Toys but all of the regular versions of the Dibots are sold out at retail and price jacked on Evil Bay IF you can even find them. I still need Sever, Stomp, and Soar.

I knew from the get-go that I wanted my MP Dinobots in alt form, so I went with Fans Toys. No regrets whatsoever.
Also, Dinobots should never combine. They're so much cooler as a team with enough muscle to take on a Combiner without themselves combining.

Stomp is quite a hurdle. The prices on him are redicilous. I saw his box being sold on ebay for $150 and that's just cardboard and plastic. The figure itself goes around for around $500 to $600 MIB nowadays.
Thats what i am seeing. I care nothing for the boxes. I bought a FT Apache for was cheaper because it was loose.
@@richardsugai55 It is indeed cheaper to get them loose. I do like my boxes so I try to get my bots when they hit retail or at least MIB.. I've been collecting FT for a few years now so I'm kinda sitting on a goldmine here. No intention of selling them though. I only care for the best representation of the character in my mind and FT usually does that best as far as I'm concerned.
