I’m feeling dumb for not realizing it. I watched both Bobby and Thew on their reviews, and I got the figure and messed with him. I was so surprised that he had an ab crunch, but I watched Thew’s review before Bobby’s, and Thew showed the ab crunch. I just feel stupid, now 🙃

Now this is not meant to be offensive, because I watch your videos often, but I can't believe you're the only one who mentioned the metal waist flak! I thought I had a defect because I couldn't get his legs to peg in the back. Also, no one but you mentioned the legs that peg in the back need to be extended. Freaking thank you!! Took me 2 hours to finally get it.
That thing really is painted beautifully. Proportions are just a hair off for my taste but it looks like a great figure for those on board with this set. Great review!
I still haven’t clipped in the translucent plastic chest piece because once you do , there didn’t seem to be a safe way to remove it. I’m still deciding what autobot logo to use on mine. I echo your comment about Gigapower pulling through to finish the set. 👍

i.STiLL.FUNCTiON yeah I’m not sure if there is a safe way to remove that piece. I think you would have to disassemble the whole chest and split it to get to the back of those tabs that lock in. Oh well maybe we will here about it on the next sit down Saturday episode. 👍

I ended up getting both the GP and FT sets, because as you said each set does some things the other does not. Excited to pick this guy up and finish out the crew (I'm used to the year wait between GP releases and wasn't ready for him to come out so quickly on the tail of Gaudenter). Great review as always!
Man, this is such a petty thing to point out, but since (in my mind) Grimlock usually stood next to Optimus in T-Rex mode, a height comparison between alt mode Grimlock and bot mode Prime would've been cool. To me that's the most natural pairing, so that would be one of the biggest decision factors between Giga and FansToys.
I really want to see a fellow stop-motion animator use three Gigapower Gigasaurs of Grimock, Slag, and Sludge to "clear this rubble, and be quick about it" in animation. Hmm, may do that myself. =P Truly a satisfying wait to collect all 5, that's for sure. I see that Maryland Phil has rubbed off on you knowing that Allosaurus had three fingers and the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex had two. That or we all know that, but Sunbow did not, since the original G1 Grimlock always had two fingers. I can forgive the two front toes on the foot though, lol. I do wish he came with an ability to swap out to Two fingers as the real "walking fang factory," Tyrannosaurus Rex, had. Less is more however, lol. That is weird when talking about the Dinobots. It makes sense that Gigapower Superator/Grimlock would come with less because I felt the Gigapower Swoop came with lots of unnecessary accessories. At 2:47 I would disagree and say that is more akin to Don Figueroa's War Within design than the IDW version (that one tends to have Batman-like bat "ears"). Totally agree with you that the clear on the gun barrels is really weird. Maybe a hold over from a dual-release (one Chrome and one Metallic). If the Metallic one comes with a full black plastic one, I'd be pissed, but this one is easily fixed with just some black paint and clear coat. My opinion is that the Gigapower Gigasaurs are the single most best 3rd Party Dinobots out there. The Fans Toys ones had their issues, but were way too undersized to scale right. The Gigasaurs work great as both a Generations and Masterpiece-sized. How you say? Check out Bumblebee scurrying underneath Grimlock's feet in SOS Dinobots and then check out their "downsizing" in Season 3, after the movie. I wonder, in a Marvel What If? comic-like style, that if your Grassor had not broken, and you knew that fans were asking for both a chrome and metallic version, that they'd double dip the molds, how you opinion of them would have turned out. At 9:38 See, that metallic paint is important, haha! Weird that you think the Fans Toys has better proportions. That's kind of where I think they failed as the Gigapower one has an aura of power and pressence when but next to one another. At 18:10 Hmm, didn't notice that before. Red for toy, Blue for Cartoon. Crap... gotta paint mine, lol. At 18:46 That's the pure joy, my friend, pure joy. I wonder if anyone is going to make their own Chef's apron and a tray with glasses for that infamous scene in Season 3, haha. Such a great figure all the way around, honestly. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see anything else from the Gigapower team. There's not enough of a market for the varying G2 Color schemes, and the Dinobots were their dream project to complete A labor of love really, aside from them having a love of Mobile Suit Gundam. Truly a chapter they could close on a high point, but who knows. Only time will tell. Although, my suspcion has been that they were closely related to, or were/are, Spark Toys that made Alpha Pack (War Within Optimus Prime) and Spartacus (War Within Megatron). Two figures I so greatly want. I wish we could get some kind of confirmation on that, but who knows, am I right? Thank you so much for an amazing review, Bobby, mack, and keep up the great work! =P

Great review! Regarding the paint, this looks a bit like Fanstoys LE comic version (which was silver paint in all gray areas). It’s a shame that it wasn’t the regular decoration but a LE. Would it be possible to get triple Vs. between GP, FT and Takara?
Just got mine today and I am impressed. This is my fist Dinobot and I’m sure FT is also impressive but I can definitely recommend this Grimlock if you haven’t started your dinobot collection. Now I feel I have to complete the set 🤦♂️💸💸💸
I went FT on this one because I feel he’s the happy middle although late in the game so I’m stuck with only two of the five at this point but I’m patiently praying for reissues.
Damn that Styrofoam is EVERYWHERE!!! I hate electrostatic ^^Nice review as always. I love the paint details inside of the wings/dino neck. Concerning paint deco they gave it all.
Translucent parts are for lighting effects...function and fun. As others already mentioned, Superator has an ab crunch, not that it is important. As for comparisons and proportions, watch the Sunbow cartoon, now look at Grimlock's waist, now compare FT Grimlock with GP Grimlock, the waist on FT Grimlock is way too small and I've been of this opinion from the time FT Grinder was released. Also I think the overall size of the GP is not only more toon accurate, but these are freaking Dinosaurs they should be bigger by nature of the case. As you mention in the video Bobby, GP Grimlock is solid, lots of paint, and in my opinion, better than all the other Grimlock figures before it. I do understand though how some people who have already invested so many $ into other Dinobot sets before this release might feel a little butt-hurt. lol Personally, I do not own any Masterpiece Dinobots figures so far, but if I ever come up with the funds, will definitely be in on the GP Set. Autobots ROLL OUT!
I'm so pleased with my Giga set. There are a couple of things I found strange about this one: No light-up feature in the gun; no toy-style shoulder launcher; no disassembling the head to mix-and-match the eyes... all pretty standard on the other Gigasaurs - especially the first two. I was also a little surprised they made the throne a separate purchase (can't wait to get it, though). Now, has anyone mentioned the ab crunch, yet? :-)
I had to pay Fanstoys 20 dollars for the cartoon head. Even though you said its prone to breaking, I like somethings about this transformation method. If the pieces fit together with less struggle, it looks like it would feel very satisfying.
So here I am as promised and first I need to tell you what I'm going for with the Grimlock Transformer. I'm recreating the fight with the Sharkticons on the G1 movie and I want Wheelie riding Grimlock in T-Rex mode. I will have X-Transbots Ollie riding him so Grimlock needs to be big but even though I'm going to display him in Dino mode I may want to display him in robot mode latter so I want the best overall Grimlock. Robot mode: Fanstoys has better proportions, better leg articulation, an ankle rocker, better accessories and a more solid transformation. Gigapower is a bit bigger, has better sculpt, paint and an ab crunch. Dino mode: Fanstoys has blue eyes and better articulated legs. Gigapower has a better sculpt, paint and better head (even though I can buy the extra one for Fanstoys and then it becomes better then the Gigapower). This is by no means an easy decision. I think the worst about Fanstoys is that it doesn't have an ab crunch (which helps looking down) and the sculpt and paint are a bit lacking when compared to Gigapower. The worst about Gigapower are the legs, both the articulation and the missing ankle rocker disappoint me and the transformation seems a bit more complicated (in a bad way), not having blue eyes for the T-Rex head bothers me a bit to. Gigapower costs $15 more but I need the extra head for Fanstoys so in the end the price will be the same, that doesn't help me a bit. Maybe you can help me, would you please send me a picture from both Grimlock versions with X-Transbots Ollie riding on the back like in the G1 movie? Thank you for both reviews they really helped me a lot.
Considering the recent release of Studio Series '86 Grimlock, a cartoon accurate remake of MP Grimlock seems to be a long ways away. Hopefully TakaraTomy gets their QC issues resolved by then. BTW glad to see Gigapower finally getting their Dinobots out of the way. Cant wait to see what they come up with next.
The gigapower’s proportions are more g1 acurate with the chunkiness and wider waist and hips. But I like the proportions on the fanstoys better with the slim waist. The slim waist just makes his shoulders and chest seem that much broader which makes him look more intimidating imo.
It reminds a lot of MP Grimlock, it is like a reskin of the MP one. While I like it, it takes a lot of cues from Takara to be it's own thing like FansProject or even like Fanstoys. But it got good proportions.
I do not have Superator yet so i can't say with 100% certainty that you can, but, you could on previous GP figures. I swapped eyes on Guttur/Snarl, and Grassor/Slag, I've also seen pictures of Graviter/Sludge with the eyes swapped.
Be careful of the fingers,; a pin and a finger came out on me all of a sudden. Good thing I was watching or that metal pin may of never been found. Nonetheless, LOVE Gigapower- only dinos I’ve ever owned.
Gotta tell ya man, I got their first 3, but I'm passing on this just for that ankle rocker being lazy to the point of disrespectful! Crazy. Good on you not breaking the tail lol -- you were sweating bullets right??
Not doing a proper ankle rocker just baffles me, there was no reason not too. The alt mode looks superb and if my 1st 2 weren't train wrecks quality wise I'd have finished the set for that.
It almost seems as if GP skipped some articulation points just to finally get this thing out. Like a HS or college senior who knows he's got it in the bag and just coasts the last month. Not their best work, but they just wanted it to be over. That said, I'm all in on Gigasaurs. He's still way more primo finished than my Reximus Prime.
Hard Pass. GP might have the better size(IMHO the Dinobots should be ginormous) but size is all I'll give the Gigapower. The engineering is shoddy, and other commenters have noted that FT did release "fixes", but for me there's no comparison. The FT Dino's are big enough for my sense of scale, and they all look pretty much exactly how I want(still a little disappointed in Slag looking like a potato) with amazing sculpted detail and fun transformations.
Aside from size i don't really think It's fair to compare the GP to FT because each company aimed for different aesthetics and both sets have their pros and cons. That being said i think we can all agree that both sets are pretty phenomenal no matter what your preferred aesthetic is and that It's a good time to be Transformers fan.
I don't know how you could possibly think the proportions on the Fanstoys is better. I don't know how you could possibly think the Proportions of the Fanstoys is even good, or EVEN acceptable. I have never regretted any Transformers purchase I've ever made, SAVE for the Fanstoys Grinder. I loathe that things proportions. That thing is an absolute eyesore. Fucker's made out of a series of unconnected ovals.
I have a mixed FT/GP Dinobots collection and I have to say that seeing this I’m not tempted to replace my FT Grimlock. This one seems badly proportioned (his robo legs are the same size as FT’s which gives him a Johnny Bravo vibe) and the lower leg articulation leaves much to be desired. Also, FT bot seems more cartoon accurate to me. That being said I prefer GP’s Sludge and Snarl by far. Haven’t had any chance to handle FT’s Swoop but I’m happy with the GP version. As always all boils down to individual preference ;)
How can anyone look at these two and think Superator is the badly proprtioned one? Grinder's shoulders are ridiculously far apart and his crotch is way too small compared to his chest. This tiny crotch is the main reason he's shorter despite his legs being roughly the same size as Superator's. A great time to be a transformer fan with that said I already invested into the FT set and see no reason to change but he looks nice never felt like grimlock was a giant compared to prime and it’s a disaster couldn’t stop laughing but the and crunch he has is cool
Man, I do NOT like how delicate you had to be with this guy. Looks too fragile. Don’t remember you having to be this careful with the Fanstoys version of ol’Grimmy. Btw I ordered a 10 pack of spudgers just to help with transformations. Seems to make life so much easier for you!
Giga Power Predacons, built-quality-wise. It looks amazing, but the rocker essentially missing and the bow legs, plus proportions: if I start Dinobots: Fans Toys it is. Thanks for this, Bobby. :)
There is no point in doing any comparison video at all. I love Bobby skull face and his reviews but clearly his mind is already made up. He is previously stated that FT is a better fit for him than GP.
I'm pretty sure the only person Grimlock looks up to is Sergeant Kup and his war stories.

Pretty sure it's just some packing foam. You can see that it didn't get brushed off before he started the review.

I had to pay Fanstoys 20 dollars for the cartoon head. Even though you said its prone to breaking, I like somethings about this transformation method. If the pieces fit together with less struggle, it looks like it would feel very satisfying.
So here I am as promised and first I need to tell you what I'm going for with the Grimlock Transformer. I'm recreating the fight with the Sharkticons on the G1 movie and I want Wheelie riding Grimlock in T-Rex mode. I will have X-Transbots Ollie riding him so Grimlock needs to be big but even though I'm going to display him in Dino mode I may want to display him in robot mode latter so I want the best overall Grimlock.
Robot mode:
Fanstoys has better proportions, better leg articulation, an ankle rocker, better accessories and a more solid transformation.
Gigapower is a bit bigger, has better sculpt, paint and an ab crunch.
Dino mode:
Fanstoys has blue eyes and better articulated legs.
Gigapower has a better sculpt, paint and better head (even though I can buy the extra one for Fanstoys and then it becomes better then the Gigapower).
This is by no means an easy decision.
I think the worst about Fanstoys is that it doesn't have an ab crunch (which helps looking down) and the sculpt and paint are a bit lacking when compared to Gigapower.
The worst about Gigapower are the legs, both the articulation and the missing ankle rocker disappoint me and the transformation seems a bit more complicated (in a bad way), not having blue eyes for the T-Rex head bothers me a bit to.
Gigapower costs $15 more but I need the extra head for Fanstoys so in the end the price will be the same, that doesn't help me a bit.
Maybe you can help me, would you please send me a picture from both Grimlock versions with X-Transbots Ollie riding on the back like in the G1 movie?

Considering the recent release of Studio Series '86 Grimlock, a cartoon accurate remake of MP Grimlock seems to be a long ways away. Hopefully TakaraTomy gets their QC issues resolved by then.
BTW glad to see Gigapower finally getting their Dinobots out of the way. Cant wait to see what they come up with next.
Can't wait for mine. I need to find the first two though :( Maybe they will do a reissue. I hope. I would like to hear what they are up to next,

The gigapower’s proportions are more g1 acurate with the chunkiness and wider waist and hips. But I like the proportions on the fanstoys better with the slim waist. The slim waist just makes his shoulders and chest seem that much broader which makes him look more intimidating imo.
I believe it was Dreamwave that first gave Grimlock the teeth on his bot mode faceplate.
Top versus bottom bot mode proportions look crazy.
It reminds a lot of MP Grimlock, it is like a reskin of the MP one. While I like it, it takes a lot of cues from Takara to be it's own thing like FansProject or even like Fanstoys. But it got good proportions.
My question is can you open the heads and swap the visors?
I would like the IDW head with the blue visor...
I do not have Superator yet so i can't say with 100% certainty that you can, but, you could on previous GP figures. I swapped eyes on Guttur/Snarl, and Grassor/Slag, I've also seen pictures of Graviter/Sludge with the eyes swapped.
Be careful of the fingers,; a pin and a finger came out on me all of a sudden. Good thing I was watching or that metal pin may of never been found. Nonetheless, LOVE Gigapower- only dinos I’ve ever owned.

Not doing a proper ankle rocker just baffles me, there was no reason not too. The alt mode looks superb and if my 1st 2 weren't train wrecks quality wise I'd have finished the set for that.
He is almost a combiner size and I just preordered him was it worth it?

It almost seems as if GP skipped some articulation points just to finally get this thing out. Like a HS or college senior who knows he's got it in the bag and just coasts the last month. Not their best work, but they just wanted it to be over.
That said, I'm all in on Gigasaurs. He's still way more primo finished than my Reximus Prime.
Hard Pass. GP might have the better size(IMHO the Dinobots should be ginormous) but size is all I'll give the Gigapower. The engineering is shoddy, and other commenters have noted that FT did release "fixes", but for me there's no comparison. The FT Dino's are big enough for my sense of scale, and they all look pretty much exactly how I want(still a little disappointed in Slag looking like a potato) with amazing sculpted detail and fun transformations.

I would have gotten the rest of the dinos if only GP did great head sculpts like they did for Superator.
The arm flaps are very weak. I heard they break quite easily. Tiny plastic bits are holding all that die cast?! Has anyone encountered the problem?
They finally completed this set?? Looks nice, but it kind of annoys me how they went for a toy look at first and then went more toon

Once it’s transformed in Dino mode. It will stay Dino. I’ll keep all the Fanstoys in bot mode.

Aside from size i don't really think It's fair to compare the GP to FT because each company aimed for different aesthetics and both sets have their pros and cons. That being said i think we can all agree that both sets are pretty phenomenal no matter what your preferred aesthetic is and that It's a good time to be Transformers fan.
I don't know how you could possibly think the proportions on the Fanstoys is better. I don't know how you could possibly think the Proportions of the Fanstoys is even good, or EVEN acceptable. I have never regretted any Transformers purchase I've ever made, SAVE for the Fanstoys Grinder. I loathe that things proportions. That thing is an absolute eyesore. Fucker's made out of a series of unconnected ovals.
I have a mixed FT/GP Dinobots collection and I have to say that seeing this I’m not tempted to replace my FT Grimlock. This one seems badly proportioned (his robo legs are the same size as FT’s which gives him a Johnny Bravo vibe) and the lower leg articulation leaves much to be desired. Also, FT bot seems more cartoon accurate to me. That being said I prefer GP’s Sludge and Snarl by far. Haven’t had any chance to handle FT’s Swoop but I’m happy with the GP version. As always all boils down to individual preference ;)
How can anyone look at these two and think Superator is the badly proprtioned one? Grinder's shoulders are ridiculously far apart and his crotch is way too small compared to his chest. This tiny crotch is the main reason he's shorter despite his legs being roughly the same size as Superator's. Superator's proportions look far more natural and are far closer to the cartoon, just look: i.imgur.com/5n2CNpt.jpg

They show working ab-crunch on the prototype. Plus is see that for so long time wait they do not take this time in efforts. And is just me or FT One look more in design with rest of Gigapower dinos that this one o_0
A great time to be a transformer fan with that said I already invested into the FT set and see no reason to change but he looks nice never felt like grimlock was a giant compared to prime and it’s a disaster couldn’t stop laughing but the and crunch he has is cool
Excellent review as always. These look nice, but for me, FT is superior in almost every way.
Took so long for this set to finish that I lost interest. Dinos are kind of old news. And what’s with the messed up outward ankle rockers?
Man, I do NOT like how delicate you had to be with this guy. Looks too fragile. Don’t remember you having to be this careful with the Fanstoys version of ol’Grimmy. Btw I ordered a 10 pack of spudgers just to help with transformations. Seems to make life so much easier for you!

I strongly advise you don't peg those things on the dino back in fully. They are REALLY hard to unpeg!
There is no point in doing any comparison video at all. I love Bobby skull face and his reviews but clearly his mind is already made up. He is previously stated that FT is a better fit for him than GP.
