I agree. was a fan of benchmade in 2001 when more affordable, axis was a knife type then no longer made. not fan of lint carrying axis lock anymore. Pocket Lint was always slowing down lock closing performance
I would agree with you that the Bugout seems overpriced for its build. Like the Bugout or hate the Bugout, that does not give someone else the right to sell their product as a Bugout. If they want to design and produce a knife, that is perfectly ok. They can even sell it for whatever they want. If it is a good product, it will stand on its own. There would be absolutely no need to sell or market it as something that it is not. That would be both dishonest and deceitful. This is just my opinion. Thank you for commenting. Although there is obviously no way that I could determine what you have for sure, I would be very skeptical due to the things that you pointed out. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I must have recieved a good quality clone, I will compare it to a real bug out again? This one doesn't have most of the issues you showed, it is a pretty well built knife with no play in the blade.
The $40 carbon fiber one on dhgate for $40 is legit imo . There’s an all black and a silver blade with blue thumbstuds and barrels . There’s also a mini freek . We don’t know what the blade steel is
5:28 other than spotting if it's real or not, the packing and that bag most of us really never going to use may are indicators but not really life changing difference in quality. You picked the fake bag up and checked the stitching to criticize it - which is OK, but you barely checkt the original which could also have bad stitching since who knows where benchmade buys those (china maybe?) When telling those difference you need to keep in mind that you know wich one is wich and so you see those differences. Give both to someone who don't know and let him share his intentions. Or compare a set of fake / real one of wich you yourself never held the certainly real one in your hand. Let someon cover the real showing differences like the logo and then compare it. Will you know? If a good clone comes along, you will fail.
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately that would only solve one of the many issues with this knife and it would only solve it temporarily. This clone was very poorly manufactured.
a ton of bugout clones come with bearings instead of washers like the real bugout. that surprised me. why go that route making a knockoff? you would think washers would be cheaper.
I'm honestly happy I didn't waste my money on a $200 Benchmade Bugout. It is nowhere near worth the price it is retailed at. Don't get buyers remose and attack us for buying clones. Ozark Trail aka Walmart made a $10 version and its just as good. I also bought some clones of the Bugout and for would never pay $200 for some minor differences and better steel. The 3 $15 clones will last longer than a real Bugout.
I have a real one and bought a clone because the price was crazy and its very very good for the price look just about the same the only giveaway is when its closed the logo sit halfway in my real one doesnt but not 100% sure
Counterfeits not clones if they being sold as actual Benchmades! A clone would not be marked as actual Benchmade product and the perpetrators are criminals! Knowingly selling a counterfeit product is also a Federal offense. Let's get the terminology right. Nice video! 👍
I’m wondering what steel they use for their counterfeits??? Every knife is being knocked off, right up to Zero Tolerance and Chris Reeves. They can’t be using good steel??? I won’t buy an expensive knife from anywhere questionable, EBay and amazon both have knock offs. It’s dangerous buying from them!!!
I totally agree. There is no way they are using good steel. Why would they? If they are going to lie about the brand, what stops them from lying about the steel?
There is.... aliexpress. You know it's gonna be cheap, it's gonna be clone, and most probably 440c steel. But you'll pay 24$ for it. Nice ultralight clone with some clean and adjustment it will just work fine. It will also be easy to re-sharp and maintain. In europe that bugout costs 230€ it's way to expensive for what it is. If you want the real deal just buy @ good reliable store. I personally think the clone is mutch better deal.
bought a couple clones on wish, always been a fan of benchmade and other solid knife companies, but i would like to get a feel for how the real knives would feel carrying everyday, before spending over a hundred bucks on the real thing, now i also feel clones are what they are, fake, and deceptive to some, but the companies should have to put clones on their advertisements, but me knowing about benchmade, obviously buying a benchmade knife online for less than 20 bucks is a no brainer that its fake, even if the seller never mentions the words, cant say that for wives buying for husbands or others that dont know anything about the company, the thing that is nice about clones is its a cheap way to get the same design you like for cheap even if the materials are shittier, a cheapo pocket knife can last a long time, i have expensive knives and cheap knives but these will be the first clones i get, once they break and if i enjoyed the feel of them, i will buy the real ones, im not saying clones are morally right but they definitely are in the market and they arent bad knives for less than 20 bucks
Thank you very much for your comment. I appreciate and respect your opinion and I also realize that that you are not alone with this school of thought. For me, one of the problems with this would be developing an opinion on a real one based on the look and feel of an inferior product. For example, if I were to make the blade steel, pivot, clip, scales, and overall manufacturing exempt from my scrutiny when basing an opinion, then the only thing left is the size and shape which may or may not be accurate. The fake in this video felt distinctly different than the real one. I even handed them both to my 12-year-old girl without telling her which is which and she identified the fake. If I would have based my opinion solely on the fake, I am not sure I would have bought the real one. Either way, I respect your opinion and wish you good luck with your purchases. Additionally, I appreciate your comment and I thank you for watching.
@@BladeStuff i totally agree with your reply, there nothin wrong with buying the expensive knives, my favorite knives were all over $100 due to the quality control, cheap ones get too loose and require more care to stay usable and cheap steels suck to sharpen, im interested in seeing what these fake benchmade knives can go through, compared to the real thing, like an actual torture stress test on the material made with both knives, but i totally agree with your stance on fakes, just wanna try it out for myself to satisfy my curiosity
Surprised you didn't put a little RED Loctite on the end of the screws. I do it on all knives i disassemble. DON'T use the Blue. I bought a very well made mini bugout imposter at the local gunshow. In the back of my head i knew the price was too good to be true. So i took it over to a couple who sold Real Benchmade knives and had them check it out. Said it was built very well. Was th Carbon Fiber one the carbon fiber is on the inside also. Whether its real i don't know. You can't squeeze the scales together. For me, it was the pockt clip and being able to access the screw just above the clip. And the trademark "R".if they made the clones with good steel ( s90v) they would put Benchmade out of business. $ 288.00 for a real carbon fiber mini bugout is ABSURD. Benchmade is off the chain on their prices. Thanks for your video Brother.
In my opinion I'd buy 10 knock off clones before I'd pay 200$ for a pocket knife...that's just crazy...the manufacturer's are to full of themselves I wouldn't even take one if they give it to me...the knock off are perfect...if you lose it or it gets stolen you aren't out much...besides it's just a pocket knife...they should be charging a cheaper price....maybe around 75 or under I'd consider it as it is no way...not happening.
This video’s 2 years old and so out of date now. Bought a clone for £20 from Aliexpress before Xmas and everything, the box, the knife play, everything is the same as the genuine one shown in this video.
Counterfeiting is indeed illegal. Hello! Clones on the other hand are not. Many Manufacturers held in such high esteem have been cloning Custom makers for as long as I can remember.. No one says a word about that, but oh no, if one of their knives has a similar looking knife by another company, everyone gets up in arms. If it has a companies name on it and is not made by that company, nor has said companies permission for it to be made by another entity, it is a counterfeit and is illegal. Apparently the vid producer here doesn't know the correct terms nor the legal definitions or ramifications. While I appreciate his position, and to an extent, his righteous indignation on the subject, I could take him more seriously if he knew what the heck he was talking about. I just got in a Gen. Benchmade 940-1 with a s90v blade and the workmanship on the knife is pretty much pitiful. there is NO Excuse for the price on many of their products and sadly, most buyers have NO Idea as t what to look in quality vs lackluster knife. Seems to me Benchmade is ripping off the public just as bad as the counter fitters are! KnifeMaker
Ok ok. If you do a few things you to your clone you can get rid of the majority of your issues. 1) put some locktite on the screws 2) replace the swivel screw with a t10 screw 3) purchase new scales $20-40 A quick amazon search on these items for a grand total of $41. I’ll give you the matte black finish is kinda ugly. I’m not a fan of a serated edge on a knife. Furthermore who cares what kind of steel a knife blade has, almost every human male on the planet doesn’t know how to sharpen them anyways. I hope you help your buddy improve his clone instead of just shitting all over his purchase, which from your statement early in the video you said he was very happy to get his hands on one. And for goodness sakes sharpen that knife when it comes out of the box. You kids today think brand new knifes are sharp. 😂
My clone is nicer then my legit Benchmade. 😢. The one i got has none of those distinguishing differences. Visually it's identical to my real one. Even the blade coating is identical. It also came out of the box hair popping sharp, centered, and smooth as butter in the action. It's utterly insane, I paid 6 bucks for the stupid thing plus 6 for shipping. If you threw it in a pile of 10 legit Benchmades I'm not sure I could pick it back out. I've seen some wonky Benchmades right outta the box at stores with more QC issues then this clone. Mine even came with a perfect rellica of the Benchmade baggie in the box. Stretchy, soft, perfect match to my others that they return my Lifesharps in.
Don't confuse the words clone and counterfeit, those are not the same thing. A clone would be fine if the price was right. What you have here is a counterfeit, and that is not cool.
the clone will have a reasonable price ! it is just as good as the so called real one ! both are built by Chinese cnc machines ( yes the so called real one is made by a Chinese cnc machine !) m390 is re named and lie hyped D2 ! and the rubber handle is total crap rip off !
The term "reasonable" is subjective. For example, you may feel that it is reasonable, but the designer and maker who poured tons of money in R&D would probably disagree. Just my opinion. Thanks for the comment.
No offence by why should knife makers get this stupid law were china who builds cheaper and in most times better versions.people who make fishing lures this happens cars etcetera. I personally buy one real one for display and a clone to use and 98 percent of the time except microtech i prefer the clone.sorry my money is mine
This isn't true. The Benchmade website allows you to build the whole knife from the studs , thumb stud, blade color, designs etc. Ordered 4 from the website and they came with the sticker box,bag ,stickers as they are axis model bugouts and there is was no cutout. Been ordering from them for awhile
Fuck it the clone is amazing for the price. I paid like 15 bucks for it and it works perfectly fine. I’d rather have crap steel and and replace it every year than 200 for a real bugout.
Maybe. But I’ve purchased a few gas station knives for $12 to $15 that worked just fine and didn’t rip off another company.

I must have recieved a good quality clone, I will compare it to a real bug out again? This one doesn't have most of the issues you showed, it is a pretty well built knife with no play in the blade.
Glad you found something that works for you. Thanks for commenting.
@@BladeStuff thank you for the erudite reply, just earned a subscriber.
Great quality video! Glad to know I’ve got myself a real benchmade.
Thank you very much! I am glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for posting just got ripped off on two fakes
You are very welcome. Sorry to hear you got ripped off . Thanks for watching.
Surprisingly I’ve bought a few authentic models after buying their clones to try out. my biggest beef are the people passing them as real on ebay
.Keep up the Good Work!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The $40 carbon fiber one on dhgate for $40 is legit imo . There’s an all black and a silver blade with blue thumbstuds and barrels . There’s also a mini freek . We don’t know what the blade steel is
Legit? Really? Counterfeits are never legitimate, Thats what makes them counterfeit.
5:28 other than spotting if it's real or not, the packing and that bag most of us really never going to use may are indicators but not really life changing difference in quality. You picked the fake bag up and checked the stitching to criticize it - which is OK, but you barely checkt the original which could also have bad stitching since who knows where benchmade buys those (china maybe?)
When telling those difference you need to keep in mind that you know wich one is wich and so you see those differences. Give both to someone who don't know and let him share his intentions. Or compare a set of fake / real one of wich you yourself never held the certainly real one in your hand. Let someon cover the real showing differences like the logo and then compare it. Will you know? If a good clone comes along, you will fail.
Tighten the pivot screw problem solved.
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately that would only solve one of the many issues with this knife and it would only solve it temporarily. This clone was very poorly manufactured.
It happens when benchmade take over 290 dollars here in eroupe for a knife that is half plastic.
I just got screwed on a clone from eBay. I'm so pissed.
blade coating/finish looks way different as well.
yes, I would agree.
a ton of bugout clones come with bearings instead of washers like the real bugout. that surprised me. why go that route making a knockoff? you would think washers would be cheaper.
One would definitely think that. I agree
That is right throw that junk in the trash. Great video
Thank you for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Nothing some new metal scales can’t fix lol
thx video!
Thank you for watching
@@BladeStuff I live in Brazil and this video helped me choose the original
@@LocF-y1e I am happy that I was able to help.
I spent 100 for a lot of 2 bugout. I should’ve known it was too good to be true lol.
These are everywhere on eBay claiming to be authentic I wish there was a better way.
I agree. I am very careful where I buy. Thanks for watching. Thanks for the comment!
I think clones and copies are different 🤔
I think this is fair criticism and "counterfeit " is probably a better term. Thanks for the comment
They're replicating even the white stickers too
Yeah it's crazy! Thanks for the comment
Fails to mention the massive tool mark on the racasso that Benchmade would not have put on a blade.
Store name?
@@koningklootzak7788 search for 535 and take your pick ;)
So somebody sold a fake as a real one to your friend? That's low, man. That's lower than Wish...
Thats pretty low in my opinion. Thanks for watching
Face for radio
Lol.
Great vid! Thanks for posting! That whole clone business is absolute b.s. Should be illegal! Feel terrible for the people who get duped.
Thank you very much. I am glad you enjoyed it.. I couldn't agree more regarding the clone issue.. Thank you for your comment.
1) put some locktite on the screws
2) replace the swivel screw with a t10 screw
3) purchase new scales $20-40
A quick amazon search on these items for a grand total of $41.
Do you really think that they would be able to offer you a good piece of steel for $6 ?
Don't confuse the words clone and counterfeit, those are not the same thing. A clone would be fine if the price was right. What you have here is a counterfeit, and that is not cool.
You make a valid point. I agree counterfeit is a more appropriate term. Thanks
They do all that work to develop a knife and then throw it to a Chinese manufacturer to build it just asking for them to knock it off!!!
I don't buy fake but a benchmade I would just not to give them any money
Chaddddddddddddd
yes
cloning should be a crime. there are good knives made in china not using Benchmade name. Be safe and buy from Blade HQ
I absolutely agree! 💯.
That's a really bad clone. The good clones don't have different sized screws or anything that obvious of a flaw
Buy a hogue deka 😂😂😂
I need to. I do not own one of those yet. Thanks for the comment.
So many fakes on eBay it's hilarious
I believe that!
I would never buy one from anyone but a reputable store as I've seen some incredible fakes.
the clone will have a reasonable price ! it is just as good as the so called real one ! both are built by Chinese cnc machines ( yes the so called real one is made by a Chinese cnc machine !) m390 is re named and lie hyped D2 ! and the rubber handle is total crap rip off !
The term "reasonable" is subjective. For example, you may feel that it is reasonable, but the designer and maker who poured tons of money in R&D would probably disagree. Just my opinion. Thanks for the comment.
Dwie tandety...
No offence by why should knife makers get this stupid law were china who builds cheaper and in most times better versions.people who make fishing lures this happens cars etcetera. I personally buy one real one for display and a clone to use and 98 percent of the time except microtech i prefer the clone.sorry my money is mine
I like my clones better.
To each his own. Thanks for commenting.
Easily one of the most biased reviews
Why do people have to be dishonest and evil, I hate people that’s why I have dogs…
Thumbs down. Video ended.
Welcome to the real world bub
Wtf is a peench?
What can I say, I am an Okie.
I bet your buddy was heartbroken
oh yes, definitely
No you know what's unfair is people charging The working Man $400 for a 3-inch pocket knife
Interesting. Every true Benchmade I have purchased has had a cutout.
