Xue Song is the only China player who was close to Lin Dan’s smoothness, speed and tactical on court, but so unfortunately injury permanently shut his Badminton career.
He would have destroyed Kento, Axelson them all.
Xue Song was leading Kento Momota when he retired injury and he never was able to come back to competition since then.
Xue Song is way far better than Shi Yuqi.

I remember the period Lcw is still playing. China, Indonesia , Japan and India have tons of new men's singles players while we only Lcw. I remember Chong wei feng, Daren liew and Iskandar zulkarnian. We even have Zulfadli as world junior champion and Soo teck zhi Asian junior champion. After that all didn't turn up good till Lzj comes in the scene. Fast forward China who is just like Malaysia is also struggling to find replacement .

badminton at the pinnacle level is extremely competitive. there can only be one or two players that a nation will develop. Especially china. Out of billions and billions of people in china, they recruit. and out of those only a handful are selected to train. It's true, when you're born in the age of LD, LCW, you're in no luck. CL was very closed to be eclipsed by LD, but eventually came up on top. posing to be a worthy opponent to lcw. Same thing can be said to malaysia. how many people couldn't reach their full potential because of lcw.
That being said, i cannot say if there was an alternate universe, where LD didn't exist, will these two players reach the legendary level of LD or CL. These are legends. Once every 10000 years :)

Tian HouWei always had phenomenal footwork and athleticism but his play lacked the creativity or breakthrough skills that other players would have (LCW's speed, Chen Long's defense, Axelsen's height/attack etc) but you could always tell he was a very hardworking player who would be ready to grind down his opponents with sheer will

About how Chinese' men singles are on a downfall with an injured, non-passionate Shi Yuqi; 2 left handers Zhao Jun Peng and Weng Hong Yang who look promising but their pace and overall skills are just 5/10 compared to the legend Lin Dan. I doubt that actually. The only one I would say looks the most promising rn is Weng Hong Yang, he is fast and has deadly smashes, also has fairly good defenses. Whereas Lu Guang Zu playstyle is a bit too textbook with no real weapons. This generation values players that has special attacking abilities like Axelsen or Lee Zi Jia. Momota's style is out of date, Zhao Jung Peng is weak in attack and a bit slow even though he has same height range as Chen Long who has amazing speed
