Hey up , yes the kit is the same as the engine is the same 😎, usually you only need to buy the filters as the o ring and copper washer lasts a few changes 😁, ride safe Simon B 😎
Hey up supermoto, I don't live in the desert, I'm in the UK , doesn't get that hot 😲, thanks for watching and dropping a comment, much appreciated, ride safe, Simon B 👍
@@SIMONB1i afraid you are to easy on that… (i don’s suspect you want to believe it tbh, but) till 20 deg celcius you are quite right, but these days it can also become 30 deg c + in summer.. a ktm/husky 701 is not a BSA B31 plodder, but a high performance engine almost to race spec. With just an very tiny amount of oil for such performance…. Imho you need the thicker oil…. And another tip: do you oil in a pan cold and look at the thickness…. Heat it up on the fire of your stove and look again…… “thicker when hot”? Not really…. Atleast not when i do that😂. Or did i understand you wrong?
Pity they have stopped making the 701, my earlier video th-cam.com/video/sDdNpPhAeGE/w-d-xo.html is when I got the bike, it's an awesome bike and would recommend buying one, I hadn't ride one till I bought mine from London and had it shipped up to me 😁, what u riding nowadays?
Google says it is 😉 Certain motor oils are designed to be thinner (less viscous) when cold and more viscous (thicker) when hot. For instance, multi-grade or multi-viscosity motor oils show a low viscosity at low temperatures and high viscosity at high temperatures.
@@SIMONB1 Nope. Let’s start with a 5W-30 motor oil. The first number (5W) is the viscosity rating or thickness when cold, the second (30) is the rating when it’s hot. The lower the number, the thinner the oil at that temperature point. Motor oil gets thinner as it’s heated, but to prevent it from getting too thin at higher temperatures, additives (viscosity modifiers) are used so that it behaves like a thicker grade oil at higher temps. It’s still thinner with heat, it’s just… you know, less thin. Generally speaking, you start with a base oil that provides the cold rating, and then use viscosity index improvers to set the hot temperature performance. The lower the first number, the better the oil will pump and flow at cold startups. This is a good thing, and not an indication that it won’t have a thick enough viscosity for protection at higher temperatures.
Read in the Vitpilen service manual: "Drain the engine oil while the engine is at operating temperature"... And if I remember weel, the drain plug with copper washer should be tighten at 20Nm, but the thwo plugs with Orings on the net filters are 15Nm tight...
It's a good discussion point tho 🤔, so its thin when cold, but not too thin when hot as it's viscosity is more, so isn't it thicker 😁, great discussion, thanks for watching the video and dropping a comment, ride safe, Simon B 👍
@@SIMONB1 No, it's not thicker because multigrade oil grade is not expressed as an absolute measure unit! Come on! :D 5W-30 means that this oil will perform as an 5 monograde oil when cold and as a 30 monograde oil when hot! A 5W-30 will be always thinner than a 10W-40 but BOTH WILL BECOME THINNER WHEN HOT! Come on! :D This is funny! :D
Wait a minute, 701 only consumes 1.6L of oil?!?!? Wtf man how can that be, it's a 700cc but consumes only a little amount of oil, well then time for me to get an upgrade, maintenance would be a lot cheaper than my bike lol which consumes 2.2L of oil
Yes that's all it takes, single cylinder, and it has a 6k service time, but I usually do it half way through, best way to look after your engine, change the oil regularly 😁, what u ride ?
Very pleasant watching your tutorial. Thanks
Hey up droneartists6137, thanks for your kind words, thanks for watching, ride safe Simon B 😎
Great video. Will be doing this on my Vitpilen 701.
Hey up Matt, really easy, thanks for watching, ride safe Simon B 😎
Hey up Simon, brill tutorial mate that i can revert to when I'm changing oil on my ktm. Thanks mate. Keep them coming and ride safe mate.
Hey up smiles, thanks for the feedback, hope you are well, ride safe, Simon B 👍
I don’t have the bikes you mentioned but very clear instructions and good tips
Hey up Richard, thanks for the positive feedback much appreciated, ride safe, Simon B 👍
Good tutorial. So the KTM 690 oil kit works for the Vitpilen as well?

Nice video but the bike needs 10w50 or 10w60 😅

Great video Simon enjoyed that stay safe 🇬🇧👍
Hey up Richard, thanks for the positive feedback, much appreciated, looking at your avatar do you own a 701 ?
Hi Simon thanks for the reply I don't own one but I would like to test ride one as I just think they look different 🇬🇧👍

The vitpilen would be a great addition to the stable 😉, your welcome to take mine out if your near 😁
Nice video man, thx👍
No problem 👍 , ride safe Simon B 😎
thankssss
Hey up, do you have a vitpilen?
