Just been introduced to this band as they were being played in our local barbers!. I'm 50 and they are giving good old classic 70s rock vibes in every way. Long live rock n roll
Samesies. I'm 53. My eldest son said, "Ma, you've gotta check out Greta Van Fleet. The next day, I did: Me: What's the name of that band you wanted me to check out again? Son: Greta Van Fleet Me: What songs do they sing? Son: Everybody seems to like Highway Song. Okay, so I checked that one out and thought damn!!! That's off the charts!!! And then Miss Beverly, I checked out Heat Above. Oh my gosh, by the time the song was done, I was bawling. I've been hooked ever since. Obsessed even.
I was listening to the recording of this on From The Fires and noticed that at the end of the song you can faintly here “that was it”. I thought that was pretty funny and wanted to share it with my fellow Greta Van Fleet fans. Peace homie! ✌️
He got so much better live. It's incredible. If I would have heard him here the first I would have thought he couldn't sing but man, I would have been so wrong. He is an amazing singer, one of the best I know of
Love that so many of their local fans/friends/fam are commenting. How great is that to be late teens/early 20’s and watch your life take off in wonderful, crazy ways? Remember those at your side during the early days, guys. And have a blast!
D Zxx He's still so young, he's probably still trying to find his style. He is only 23 , these guys have been going non stop since 2012. They were just playing local gigs then bam a major record deal came a calling and they've pretty much been pushing them to be Zepplenish if you will. Eventually they will find their own voice and sound completely, personally I love em can't get enough!!!!!! Hope they become Super successful!!!!!
I saw this performance. I was like, "Ehhh.." While in hospital in November, I "re-discovered" them. Now I can't stop playing their music as loud as possible! I'll be 55 in July. These guys kick ass!
The singer is standing equidistant between the vocal monitors and the drums. The stage crew should have put the vocal monitors right near his feet. Not only can he hardly hear himself, there'll be a significant delay between him singing and what he hears. That's enough interference to make the singer seem like he has no idea what he's doing. The guitar and the bass player have amps right behind them, and the drums are naturally loud. Only the singer gets no immediate feedback on how he is sounding. That's why he has that awkward questioning look on his face. Also, he probably looked in the mirror right before going on stage and wondering why he let himself be talked into that get-up.
@@jabbadabba1978 As often said, the SNL stage is notoriously hard to play re: sound characteristics. Whatever else one might want to say about GVF, they are the hardest workin' band in show biz right now. They tour incessantly, and the kid is gradually getting his chops together after a prodigious start. Of course, if their next album sounds just like this one, then we'll know they have trouble in the songwriting department. But normally, they play very sharp, night after night, keep the crowds happy. There was a band in the mid 1980s called Kingdom Come that did the same Zep Thing, and never grew out of it. If you've never heard of them, that's why.
A little cold ? at that time he was suffering from respiratory ailment, laryngitis .. they had to cancel shows in Europe ,goin without singing for some months ...now he has a coach to take care of his voice ...
That was a great live performance. That is a challenging song to sing, and I think he does an excellent job. They really should have pushed up his voice in the mix. Some of his phrasing reminds me of Geddy Lee, and that is a good thing.
I think this is one of the messier live versions of this song. He's still amazing of course, but he's not hitting the notes in quite a few places. They've done a few acoustic live versions of this song tho and they're amazing

ALIAS band fan club there are so many better modern rock bands out there than these guys. Have King Gizzard on, they’re much better and actually have an original sound.
Do you just not listen to any modern rock or anything? It doesn't need "saving" by these jackasses, ripping off the legends. It's doing just fine. Loads of great heavy rock artists with big followings and fantastic, unique sounds. Oh Sees, King Gizzard, Swans, Iceage., Protomartyr. And thats the TIP of the iceberg man.
This band is very talented. Saw them live with my gf and now I love them. The drummer is a beast and the guitarist is quite good as well. If you've seen them live, you'd understand what I mean.
Like someone said, “Prince, Queen, and Led Zepplin all rolled into one”. So much wonderful. I love their soaring, classic sound and his rocking vocals.
X-ennial is a term that died rather quickly, politely gfys and never ever try to associate gen X with the echo boomer generation millennial crybabies. Gen X grew up on Rush and Zeppelin, why would we not want this awesomeness.
@TheRoadhammer379 Gen x was born in 70's and early 80's. It was the boomers that had the best music. That is, when your old enough to decide what you like, have enough money to buy albums and concert tickets.
Something about the way he sings and pronounces the words, it grabs you. He doesn’t have a technically perfect voice but one you would pay attention to. And yes they are all very attractive.
Every time I hear these guys I’m amazed at how talented they are at such a young age. Jake and Danny especially. They are right up there with the greatest musicians. Danny is going to be, if not already this generations equal to Bonham. And Jake is so good and different that it’s hard to compare him to anyone. They are freaking amazing!!
i feel like once the singer gets more confidence and really goes crazy he'll be great. its all just too clean which makes the few mistakes seem bigger than they really are.
Dam good band, I had a flashback to the early 70's, like shit man i know my draft card is coming. Funny but in 73 when I enlisted I had to go pickup my draft card I was #54..
I think it was more about his look and odd stage presence than the performance. No one can deny they are great musicians, especially at their age. Huge talent.
The "bad" performance that they are talking about is that SNL positioned the speakers so that the singer couldn't really hear himself, that's why he looks a bit confused
Most of the issues with this performance are to do with sound mixing from SNL, the instruments all blend into one noise and his mic is not loud enough so it makes his voice sound timid which it is not after seeing them live recently.
Exactly I don’t appreciate that he manipulates his voice to sound exactly like Led Zeppelin and then they turn around in the Rolling Stones op ed and say they don’t like to be compared to the Led Zeppelin well then stop manipulating your voice to sound like them 🤣
The drummer live is so much better than on the original recordings! Singer sounded great (I think he has sounded a little better in some other live proformances but he is still amazing here). I love the little fills the guitarist flicks in everywhere!
First time I’ve heard these guys and I was actually quite impressed. The opening guitar chord sequence sounded great, (nice feel) it was clean and honest with no frills. I read where (early on) they’ve played biker bars but had to stay outside between sets (because of their age). With their determination to play better venues (now in their favor) all their hard work is now reaping the rewards of earlier struggles. Fresh new rock talent, not to be ignored.
Apparently I have been living under a rock and while I was away Geddi Lee and Robert Plant had a baby hobbit together and that hobbit started a band that is amazing.
Funny how people can hate on this which is actually super talented, then turn around and worship Taylor swift or dua Lipa, or Lizzo lol. This is refreshing.
I don't hate GVF but how is it refreshing? Zeppelin did this more than 50 years ago. Ironically, every artist you listed is actually doing something more original with their work than Greta Van Fleet is
i hadn’t heard of these but they were on a TH-cam top ten of ppl who ruined their careers onstage they had clips with no sound and looked like was gonna be shit but watching it with sound they’re absolutely amazing and I love the slight awkwardness especially of the singer. They are a bit nervous at first, which is absolutely normal, but they totally deliver. First time I'm listening to them and seeing the band, by the way. Great song and great performance. I guess people just don't understand music being played for real, with instruments, anymore...
Vocal performance was really not good though
@@anthonyinzerillo2804 I don't... see that, I'm sorry. One thing is disliking his vocal style; another thing is to evaluate his delivery. I don't see any mistakes or off-notes beyond the natural human (professional) variance. Sounds perfectly ok to me.
Me too. Glad I did... this is hot
They are obviously on drugs that’s why it’s a “terrible performance” you can tell by many of his mannerisms I’m pretty sure they all did a line of coke
Seriously!! They are the sh*t, the real deal!!! WTF? Been playing for 40 years and total respect!!
The next day, I did:
Me: What's the name of that band you wanted me to check out again?
Son: Greta Van Fleet
Me: What songs do they sing?
Son: Everybody seems to like Highway Song.
Okay, so I checked that one out and thought damn!!! That's off the charts!!! And then Miss Beverly, I checked out Heat Above. Oh my gosh, by the time the song was done, I was bawling. I've been hooked ever since. Obsessed even.
Idk why they say the performance was one of snl's worst?🤷🏽♂️ maybe his voice cracks a little? Idk. But they are really good regardless.
Maybe they thought to watch a real Led Zeppelin copy. But no, Greta Van Fleet has a unique style.
Yeah, this is a good performance. I don't get it.
Everything about this band is pure Rock N' Roll. Pure magic. 🙏🤟🤟
I was listening to the recording of this on From The Fires and noticed that at the end of the song you can faintly here “that was it”. I thought that was pretty funny and wanted to share it with my fellow Greta Van Fleet fans. Peace homie! ✌️
Sodypops bouta go check it out thanks for the tip 👍👍👍
thought it was gonna be “that was it?” but im glad it was a “that was it!”
Anyone that loves old school rock, listen to Jakes guitar solo on As the Curtain Falls. I’m 60 and it makes my hair tingle when that play that song!
He got so much better live. It's incredible. If I would have heard him here the first I would have thought he couldn't sing but man, I would have been so wrong. He is an amazing singer, one of the best I know of
Just them live in Pittsburgh ! They are awesome !!
Jake and Sammy have such a great stage presence
Love that so many of their local fans/friends/fam are commenting. How great is that to be late teens/early 20’s and watch your life take off in wonderful, crazy ways? Remember those at your side during the early days, guys. And have a blast!
Everyones technique could possibly make this band legendary. Tiktok just got this band another fan. Can’t wait to see where life takes them
I just said this... they are in their infancy and need time and experience and they'll be
killing it
He’s a got a weird stage presence but I kinda like it
It's all Robert Plant
It seems kinda Freddy Mercury at least some of his moves.
A less enthusiastic Freddy Mercury
D Zxx He's still so young, he's probably still trying to find his style. He is only 23 , these guys have been going non stop since 2012. They were just playing local gigs then bam a major record deal came a calling and they've pretty much been pushing them to be Zepplenish if you will. Eventually they will find their own voice and sound completely, personally I love em can't get enough!!!!!! Hope they become Super successful!!!!!
@@geyserink please at least learn how to spell his name...

I saw this performance. I was like, "Ehhh.." While in hospital in November, I "re-discovered" them. Now I can't stop playing their music as loud as possible! I'll be 55 in July. These guys kick ass!
Iam 63 and after finding this awesome band i have just been transported back to the 70s Rock on .Now im going to live another 50 years. lol
I agree
Agreed completely. The nervosity flew at the second song. He regained his appearence!
It’s a tiny tiny stage. The acoustics are instant. His instincts are every bit as much to blame as the eq board or set up.
If you've never heard of them, that's why.
nirvana played SNL and kicked ass
I don’t know why people say this was a bad performance, it was great imo.
I liked the performance, but i get why people are saying things like the mannerisms are weird
Because he moves weird
They have no stage presence, and the vocal performance is super weak and cringey
I couldn’t agree more. I just listened to it with headphones on, and the guitars and bass are absolute fire!
@@KendrickMegaFan I honestly prefer talent over stage presence, and these guys have a lot of talent.
The band is killing it! The lead singer is definitely shaking up and a little cold and that’s who usually pushes the vibe
A little cold ? at that time he was suffering from respiratory ailment, laryngitis .. they had to cancel shows in Europe ,goin without singing for some months ...now he has a coach to take care of his voice ...
One of the most underrated bands out there
So good to see rock back on snl
One of Pete Davidson’s greatest performances 🤯

Hooked! Love Zeppelin, the Doors, Queen, and Rush… Finally rock continues on! 🙌🏼 Refreshing. 🥰✨🎼
That was a great live performance. That is a challenging song to sing, and I think he does an excellent job. They really should have pushed up his voice in the mix. Some of his phrasing reminds me of Geddy Lee, and that is a good thing.
marc54678 that is true and people compare them to Led Zeppelin
Definitely reminds me of early Rush! Love it!
Yes!!! Not Zeppelin at all! It’s Rush for me as well!
Definitely hear Geddy Lee
I think this is one of the messier live versions of this song. He's still amazing of course, but he's not hitting the notes in quite a few places. They've done a few acoustic live versions of this song tho and they're amazing
for all of you commenting about what they're wearing that was very popular Rockstar attire way-back-when which is kind of what they're trying to channel and they're doing a really good job so you can all chill out they're bringing rock music back

LETS KEEP ROCK ALIVE... we all know it needs as much support as we can give it... As far as their clothing goes.. I'm pretty sure they have a "stylist" putting all that together
I'm not a fan of any of the people that you mentioned, but at least they have any charisma at all, which is absent in this GVF performance.
hell f that mumble bullshit
This band is very talented. Saw them live with my gf and now I love them. The drummer is a beast and the guitarist is quite good as well. If you've seen them live, you'd understand what I mean.
Very VERY rare to have artists making music timeless like this
😂😂😂 yeah because usually bands have enough self respect to not just straight up copy Led Zeppelin
Like someone said, “Prince, Queen, and Led Zepplin all rolled into one”. So much wonderful. I love their soaring, classic sound and his rocking vocals.
Speaking for all gen x and xennials please let this style come back these guys are amazing
Long live rock n roll babyyyyyyy
The Boho look? It was kinda popular in the 90’s but I’m amazed by this talent. This guy is freaking amazing!
Of music, not clothing.

Not a fan, but I came here to see how "bad" this performance actually was. It was perfectly fine lol, wtf are people talking about?
People just want any excuse to hate
I think it was more about his look and odd stage presence than the performance. No one can deny they are great musicians, especially at their age. Huge talent.
The "bad" performance that they are talking about is that SNL positioned the speakers so that the singer couldn't really hear himself, that's why he looks a bit confused
@Victor Melloni now say that without crying
Yeah this song is awesome!
56 year old dog here. Seen a boatload of the legends in concert .This is a good band. Talented.
Outstanding performance. One of SNL's best acts of the season.
Most of the issues with this performance are to do with sound mixing from SNL, the instruments all blend into one noise and his mic is not loud enough so it makes his voice sound timid which it is not after seeing them live recently.
The best band of the Shire ever.

I fell in love with this band when I saw this episode.... came back again to see this performance
The drummer live is so much better than on the original recordings! Singer sounded great (I think he has sounded a little better in some other live proformances but he is still amazing here). I love the little fills the guitarist flicks in everywhere!
Ian Austin the drummer is the weakest link
The drummer is all arms damn
First time I’ve heard these guys and I was actually quite impressed. The opening guitar chord sequence sounded great, (nice feel) it was clean and honest with no frills. I read where (early on) they’ve played biker bars but had to stay outside between sets (because of their age). With their determination to play better venues (now in their favor) all their hard work is now reaping the rewards of earlier struggles. Fresh new rock talent, not to be ignored.
Hey, remember when these guys won the battle of the bands in School of Rock? Good days man...
It’s mostly jealousy
I don't hate GVF but how is it refreshing? Zeppelin did this more than 50 years ago.
