Drummers timing is fantastic, bass playing is ligit amazing, guitar playing is clean asf, and the singing is unreal.

@@aakar88 That was 8 months ago my opinion has changed😬A band like Greta is not as big as they are is because they have no new flavors in their music to appeal to new audiences. Rock n roll can’t be rock with old and original sounds and influences because that’s what Rock is, But if you don’t have any new flavors your only gonna appeal to modern day kids that like rock and boomers. It’s kinda like you can’t make a movie remake without original components, but you need to add new ones or else you’d just be watching a newer version of the original. That’s exactly what Greta is, watching a new version of zeppelin which is kinda boring. I won’t deny tho that the kid has a really good voice just not an original one.

I guess people just enjoy their music especially older people cause they can reminisce and bring themselves back to an older time. My dad enjoys how they sound cause to the ear of course it’s cool to hear a band sound like zeppelin, but they look like absolute shit on stage.

If you want a pure band, check out Swervedriver. These guys are just pantomiming, they basically seem like a technically talented and well-practiced high-school cover band, there’s a difference between having influences and not having one shred of individuality. There are bands with John Bonham-esque drummers, or singers similar to Zeppelin, these guys it’s the whole thing down to the clothes they wear on stage, it’s uninspiring, boring, derivative. There are tons of other bands whose sound harkens back to classic hard rock but they still have their own thing going like Fu Manchu

Josh Kiszka’s voice is iconic. Definitely a legendary sound and style. The band gives off that classic hard rock vibe. I’m glad they’ve brought that kind of music back. Definitely rocks 🤘🏼

Every year around this time I come back and revisit this video. It was my intro to GVF and I've been a huge fan every since. I was just listening and thinking the same thing, how much Josh's voice has improved over the past 5 years. He's had to make a lot of sacrifices to get there, but it's worth it. He will go down as having one of the most iconic voices in the history of Rock N Roll.

I know there is a lot of attention to the vocals but the lead guitar player is the secret sauce.
These guys are actually quite like The Who - John Entwistle once said he plays lead bass, Pete lead guitar, Keith lead drums, and Roger lead vocals.

First introduced to GVF 2yrs ago by a Tiktok post. I couldn't stop listening after hearing and learning more about them. My 22yr old daughter came home one day and told me about this new band that she's in love with.... needless to say, it was GVF and no sooner we booked a trip to Connecticut to see them play. It was one of the BEST experiences we've shared together! If you haven't seen them yet you absolutely need to! They sound just as good live as they do on album!! I was surprised to see such age differences there. From young children to people in their 80s, EVERYONE was having a great time TOGETHER under 1 amphitheater!

I wanted to say hello to him and finally get a photo with him (have seen them many times) but I am never super comfortable approaching people and didn't want to bother him. I don't know why people would rather choose to break down the first rock band on the charts in ages because they have some elitist standpoint on Zeppelin. The title is "Mainstream rock sucked in 2018" and used Imagine Dragons and Greta Van Fleet as 2 of several examples as to why it sucked. The Greta Van Fleet attack in the article was about them being a copycat band of Led Zeppelin. It is not just rock and metal fans that are critical of this band but professional music critics from a music magazine as well. The sad thing is Greta Van Fleet will probably win 1 or 2 Grammy awards in February. Rolling Stone Magazine should do a "why the Grammys suck". The Grammys have been much more of a popularity awards contest rather than being based on the best talent for several decades.
Tbh the reason why i like them is because they're reminiscent of old style rock, which is refreshing to have amongst all of the mainstream pop artists that sound the same to me.

@@harryhenderson792 Odds are these kids are gonna keep getting flack until they craft a sound that's a little more unique. The Zeppelin inspiration is nice, but it'll end up getting old quick. Wolfmother sounded Zeppeliny, but not as close as these dudes. They crafted their own unique style and it made them memorable. Anytime anyone hears The Joker, Woman, or Unicorn they know exactly who it is. If you played some Zep and then some Fleet for someone who hadn't heard either, they probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I could watch this on repeat all day! Every one of them is fantastic! I mean, you can't say anything bad about Josh's voice or his awesome lyrics, Danny banging the hell out of those drums...with the guitar being his 1st instrument, Jake doing his thing...being one of the best guitarist of this time (he actually ranks #1 on some charts) and Sammy playing that bass like a regular guitar...knowing that's his 2nd instrument to the keys! Just four dudes from Michigan who started playing together in the garage before even graduating high school. And as someone else commented..."Mama Kiska is the MVP for birthing 3 out of the 4 of them!" (Danny, the drummer, is honorary son...they've been best friends since like 10th grade)
People want to criticize them for sounding like Zeppelin but can't accept the fact that they are actually playing music in a time where we have people like tekashi 69 making money making trash and hooking up with an underage girl.
Go check out the Stoned Meadow of Doom channel. There are literally dozens of bands that have been making great 70's influenced hard rock albums for decades but get no press.

Agreed that the world needs this. But music is music, no matter if it is with autotune and pre recorded sounds. Open your mind, and you will find that with the autotune and a pc producction you can make things that with instruments or real tone of voice is imposible. I love rock jazz blues funk, but i also love electronic music, pop and rap. Its not a war, music is to express vibes and energy.
That’s a hell of a voice!

SNL's sound mix has always been abysmal when it comes to musical guests with few exceptions. I wouldn't blame their performance cause Greta Van Fleet usually perform very well.

@@keithremedy The Stairway lawsuit was bullshit in my opinion, but that does not take away from the fact that they literally sampled and stole material for some of their biggest songs, including some lyrics on Whole Lotta Love. Led Zeppelin is great and all, but nobody needs to get all high and mighty about GVF occasionally sounding somewhat like Zeppelin when Zeppelin literally stole material and nobody cares. GVF writes all their own stuff, so I really don't care myself if they sound vaguely similar. Hell, emulating another artist that well in your own material is perhaps the most difficult thing one could do in music. Sure, From The Fires had a few very Zeppelin-esque tracks, but on top of that Anthem Of The Peaceful Army sounds nothing like Zeppelin at all. And to be honest, I think in his upper register Josh sounds more like Janis Joplin than Robert Plant. It's largely just his lower register that really shares that similarity, especially on tracks like Safari Song.
People criticized Guns N Roses as well for being a little too “Led Zeplin-ish” they said...Lady Gaga sounds a little too much like Madonna (really?), Christina Aguilera try’s to sound like Mariah Carey too much, etc., etc.,...fact is this: These guys ROCK. It’s actually a pleasure to see a band actually playing instruments and lead singer who can sing without auto-tune. The Rock genre of the 70’s and 80’s has died out, and if these guys are reviving it and keeping it original, then good for them.

One drink of alcohol, crying, stress etc all play into how your vocal chords perform that night. Even Freddie mercury had his bad days and hes literally the king. Been singing my whole life and all my family members are musicians. That is one thing you learn very quickly is how fast something can effect your vocal chords even though you sounded absolutely amazing the night before.

Same thing happened to me. Heard “Safari Song” on Pandora and loved it. Look at the name and wonder why I’ve never heard of this band before. Assumed it was from back in the day. Months later I find out their age and the release date of their first album and I’m filled with excitement and pride for them lol Couldn’t believe it.

Every band in Led Zeppelin's time sounded like Led Zeppelin, nobody cried then. It's a southern style rhythem and blues rock. News flash people, Led Zeppelin does not own that sound, and they did not invent it. There are other sounds here other than a Led Zeppelin influence.
People accused Rush of sounding like Zeppelin too. Gene Simmons called them Canadian Zeppelin way back in the mid 70s. And they kept on rocking for 42 years, sold millions upon millions of records, sold out arenas all over the world, and are now in Hall of Fame. Not a bad career, eh?

In Rush's defence, they had their own sound. They may have borrowed elements from Zep but the had their own unique quarks and mannerisms. GVF, on the other hand, clearly don't. The signer even tries to copy Robert's hand gesture. There's nothing wrong with making a Zep tribute band, it's just weird that GVF isn't explicit about it. They're trying to pass for originals.
And how long did Zeppelin last? Certainly not forty years...

sure they play their own instruments (well? well... the rhythm section here is not that tight) but i'm pretty sure the formula for the songs and sound was ready by about 1972. i'll tell you what the problem is: in itself, playing your own instruments just doesn't constitute merit, it's not what separates good music from bad, worthy art from cynical cash-grab. these guys are getting attention because they are very specifically, very safely exploiting the nostalgia of people who got stuck with a stale af rockist attitude and are living in the past, people who like to say things like "hurr durr i prefer real music to auto-tuned pop stars." (if you don't understand why that is a ridiculous and shallow mindset i can't help you.) there are hundreds of exciting, own-song-writing and own-instrument-playing artists out there who aren't cracking the charts because they're doing something a bit more nuanced than Zeppelin pastiche that appeals directly to baby boomers' calcified tastes, and it's a ridiculous argument that people shouldn't criticize Greta Van Fleet just because it isn't EDM or whatever. saying this as a huge fan of Led Zeppelin and rock music in general, this is the opposite of what rock today should be.

Love these guys! I'm an old lady, musician, and love old rock. Very impressed by these young men. They seem well grounded, love what they are doing, and doing it well. Can't wait to follow their career.
Led Zeppelin laugh's at them I seen a interview with Robert plant and he just Snickers because Zeppelin did things no other band could do Jimmy page and John Paul Jones did things so other bands couldn't copy them The rain song has the guitar tuned for a tuning that takes a month to tune to play it if you play by ear. If you listen to heart breaker The riff in the beginning is the bass Jimmy accents it but the heavy riff everyone thinks it's the guitar and if you listen to Bono he's always a step ahead of Jimmy he doesn't follow the Bass like other bands and Greta van fleet is a excellent band with original music just because the singer has high range doesn't mean they are coping zep no one will ever be able to sound like Zeppelin
