Helldivers is a super underrated game, I'm so happy to see the sequel doing well. Such a cool universe as well, glad to see the lore covered!
Yes Helldivers 2 is awesome
don't know how you talked about this game for almost 20 minutes without mentioning starship troopers
I didn’t want to invoke into this lol
I get what you're saying, but that is literally the inspiration.
Post release of Helldivers 2, there's literally an achievement named "Doing your part," and scenes from the intro video mirror the movie.

Watched first 8 minutes and started hearing bug propaganda so I have to go. Reporting you to Super Earth Admin for reeducation.
I have never played helldivers and wanted to know a bit before playing Helldivers 2, this video really helped, thanks.
Thank you and I’m glad it helped!
Should definitely try hd 1, it still has a sizable community that plays it and its super fun and easy to get in a random game as its a jump in jump out kind of game and don't require a lot of players to play, its also soloable.
"Sound Familiar?"
Me: Painting Warhammer 40k models with Starship Troopers playing in the background, while listening to this video- "Yea, sounds very familiar.."
Keep in mind the hell divers universe has 1 particular thing in common with 40k and starship troopers regarding all species in it they all have only 2 choices those are to fight or be exterminated this goes for every species and like in the mentioned franchises humanity is fighting a constant uphill battle
Absolutely fight or flight to eventually be Merc’d
Nah it was more like
“Hey both of our Military’s are extremely powerful so we should avoid unnecessary conflict and suffering”
Super Earth:
“I’m sorry did I hear that you had Powerful Weapons/An Exploitable Resource/A different ideology?
It’s War Time Baby!”
Not really. Illuminate was willing to peacefully interact with Humans, Earth caused the war by attacking them first to steal their advanced technology.
Cyborgs are human rebels that want to seceede or at worst convert rest of humanity into their Cyborg socialism.
Bugs could have been wiped out if Super Earth hadn't decided to domesticate them because their corpses is a very useful biofuel for vehicles and FTL drives.
Super Earth isn't genocidal either. It enslaved defeated Cyborgs and Bugs. Illuminates are also alive just that their technology is confiscated and empire dismantled/disarmed.
With exception of bugs it is just three rival totalitarian governments fighting for control. Bugs are just animals.
FYI Facade is pronounced with an s not a c (from French façade where ç is pronounced s)
Thank you for catching that correction. I appreciate it!
Thank you for your entertaining video about the lore of this awesome game. I should have started with that!
Wanted to add to HD2’s intro tutorial and how it relates to my time in the Marine Corps. The game tongue and cheeks you as special forces being special when in actuality in all out war even Special Operation dudes are just a EDIPI and a dollar amount.
Thanks for this video! I enjoyed it. Arrowhead is one of my favorite game studios and I love their story telling. Really looking forward to HD2 as well, their most recent video was hilarious with "a soft iron fist" comment.
I agree! I am really looking forward to it, and I will be completing a review and a story analysis on it as well!
Great breakdown, thanks for your unique perspective!
Thank you for taking the time to check it out! I hope you enjoyed!
Don't become a propaganda sympathizer it blocks the shine of democracy
Seeing Helldivers 1 and all the goodness they packed into it, and seeing what they have done with Helldivers 2 is so awesome to see. Taking a great game story and gameplay wise, and then transforming into the fps scene while still utilizing the stratagem system is just outstanding
this video seems more about the philosophy behind helldivers and less about the lore. Not a bad video but I feel like I learned very little other than your opinions.
Exactly how I felt. I learned literally nothing about the lore.
That's always the question is it not. If we as a species have achieved peace among ourselves what use is war or conflict. Or would we just get bored and fight each other again, so we need a enemy to unite against
Yes, I think this game brings out some very deep thinking for us if we look deep enough.
Love the lore! Great video, thank you!
Thanks man I appreciate it
Mission: [Terminate Illegal Broadcast]
(Very insightful! *fires autocanon*)
I wonder if the hell divers themselves ever think about what they're doing on these planets far from home. I get a odd feeling when I'm states away from my place, I can only imagine what it's like to be on a totally different planet, where everything is trying to kill you. I wonder if some of these divers have ever even seen super earth, the home they're told that they're defending. Maybe that's part of the reason the cyborgs defected? All in all I really like this subtle way of telling the story through the actions of the character directly, it is not something you see much of these days.
I agree 100%. I have a question, do you think in Helldivers 2 we see an expansion into other worlds, or do you think there will be a focus on an all out defense of super earth at some point?
@DetectiveSeeds In the newest trailer they seem to be saying the terminids have expanded their territory to multiple planets, and the cyborgs after being pushed back, have now gone full borg and have become the automatons. I expect to see us going to other worlds rather than super earth, although getting to see it firsthand and fight there would be a dream.
@Mr.Salad_ according to people who have interviewed the devs and got hands-on with the game the automatons have a mystery behind them and that they and the cyborgs may not be the same thing
@@Mr.Salad_in helldivers 1 couldn’t you go to super earth? i haven’t played in years but i recall when super earth is losing the war they get pushed back to their capitol and you have to fight in the urban streets of super earths cities.
Very nice! I don't think anyone else has focused on this aspect of Helldivers.
Just went and dug this game out again. Thinking I may need to get the sequel that just launched soon. Just need to wait a minute and see how the network issues pan out.
I really hope you do a review of the recently released sequel.
Actually I think Super Earth is in serious trouble, if you notice we are trying to 'tie up' 3 hostile factions by constantly attacking them with small groups of special forces 'networked' to various support fires to make up for our numerical inferiority, and as you play the galactic war, we actually get invaded. The entire propaganda machine serves to make the effort heroic, instead of the reality of how horrific of a situation they are in.
I think that’s a very good perspective to take. Do you think that Helldivers 2 will show us more of that reality and the status of super earth, or just invading other planets to expand?
@@DetectiveSeeds The focus will be on conquest and offensives, but I think this time they are putting more effort into additional lore, such as having the tutorial in an actual bootcamp, seeing your soldier awaken from cryogenic sleep etc. So we should see some extra bits and pieces alluding to not all being as it seems.
That was part of the impression I got. That the Helldivers were a solution akin to the Spartan III's of Halo. Disposable soldiers deployed to wage a resource efficiency war. They aren't the best, they aren't well armed, trained or equipped... until someone survives a brutally Darwinian selection process of trial by fire. That and the scale of this operation suggests to me that the situation is drastically worse than Super Earth's management are willing to admit. They have one resource to burn, and it's population. Very 40k Imperial guard feeling going on. (just, less religion.)
Thank you for your insight!
I recently started playing Helldivers 2, and merely thought of it as a blend of both Starship Troopers and Enders Game, without really reflecting upon what those stories actually touched upon and invited the readers think about - protectionism and re-preventionism in the thinly veiled guise of 'our way is the only way'.
Your video made me reflect upon nature, ants specifically - some use aphids to farm, others are extremely territorial, but all make use of air conditioning through placing their waste in one hole which leads to the surface, which, in turn, funnels cooler air into the tunnels. All, however, can be considered pests if in the right (or wrong) circumstance.
We can all agree, for instance, that ticks and parasites suck, at least until we consider the symbiosis that our gut bacteria provide (and we them).
Awesome video 18:28 ! Sorry for being long-winded! ❤
I like how it shows that even a society that values freedom and liberty over anything else can still be vulnerable to fanaticism towards its' own ideology, morphing it into something it's not
Yes I agree 100%.
2:36 “Fak-Cade” this guy definitely knows what he’s talking about
Describing helldivers as a “cleverly veiled critique of militarism and false democracy” is WILD.
It’s HEAVILY inspired by Paul Verhoven movies and is as “cleverly veiled” as Robocop and Starship Troopers are subtle
That’s my interpretation of it
And yet people mistake the meaning of those movies all the time. Starship Troopers features shot-for-shot recreations of Nazi propaganda films, like teaching children to handle firearms, but fans that don’t know that or take the time to reflect or investigate further would only see it as the full-throated endorsement of war that it appears to be on the surface. Satire itself can be a paradox; it has to imitate the subject matter well in order to be effective, but the better the imitation the more likely the intended message will be completely missed or misunderstood.
@@t-money1984they don't get the criticism because Paul verhoeven is an idiot who didn't even read the book he was parodying, the world of starship troopers is a utopia
🤓
Took a drink every time you said "sound familiar".
See that’s how it’s supposed to be done
Great video brother
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Super insightful and intelligent.
I’ll be honest fam. If I was out exploring and found an island full of giant bugs I don’t think I’d try to negotiate first 😂
Bugs and cyborgs will never ever have my sympathy. Literal machines and the biological equivalent to machines.
When you fail to realize this is an analog for the dehumanization your government uses against its own enemies
idk what the sub buffer sound that was happening but it was making me crazy its like a pulse throughout the video :(
I feel this is less of an explanation of the *story* and more of a breakdown of the story themes. A good video, but not what I clicked on it for.
Dang I’m sorry to hear that. Thank you for the feedback as I continue to get better at doing these style of videos.
While I agree, helldivers didn't actually have a story, so this is pretty much what should be expected.
@@wishfull3nigma I mean, I had expected someone talking about the story and lore all in one place instead of the small snippets we're rip-fed it in the game.
But instead it was someone talking about the story's themes in a breakdown, not an actual explanation of the story itself.

What do you think they will have us sympathize in 2?
@@DetectiveSeeds Not sure, I was thinking of an enemy that pretends to be an object its not like the aliens from the game prey.

Hahaha shit probably some random country like chile
They are thought to harbor WMDs.... I think you can see who they are framed as by Super Earth.

I always wanted a prequel to 40k
I think the biggest commentary here goes back to a paraphrased quote from Aristotle, iirc, that "Democracies lead to tyranny, not tyranny of one individual, but tyranny of the masses" this is in reference to direct democracies whether aristocratic or demographic. It's funny to me, when people say stuff like "our democracy, our democracy" when they don't realize, at least as it pertains to these United States, the use of the term "democracy" is a fallacy, because we are a Representative Republic that, if adhered to the constitutional founding documents, _should_ balance the population in proportion to the local, municipal, and state locale and human landscape.
However, with the advent of (malicious IMO) use of semantics to call us a "Democracy" in effort to socially engineer the larger and more concentrated city and inner-city areas to disproportionately effect those who do not live in it. This becomes exacerbated once you go into a global, solar, and then inter-solar scale. The idea of homogenous thought; coerced, enforced, and/or encouraged is much easier if you use the "mob mentality" against the mob, any deviations from the common thought or "zeitgeist" is to be pushed off as irrelevant at best, and conspiratorial at worst.
Excellent comment! Thank you for taking the time to add this beautiful segment.
Yup. The term 'Managed Democracy' essentially predicted 'Fortification' of the results in a Republic by those who constantly stridently talk about 'our democracy'.
@@Sorain1
Also even if it were not the case at all; The fact that any and all evidence or investigation to prove there isn't a reasonable doubt that, impropriety or worse was prevalent may or may not have occurred was treated as conspiratorial is in of itself a major degenerative factor to trust the governing institutions. The trust that elections are held fairly by anyone of any political persuasion is next to non-existent is the problem in of itself.
@@redcell9636 when you realize managed democracy means neither choice you pick is going to break from the status quo because they are carefully curated and reinforced by the same propaganda machine controlling you.
This video will be under review by our top agents. Possible re education necessary!
good vid.
Thank you I appreciate you taking the time to watch
Bro you good?
Ngl my very first experience with helldivers was just watching a guy get swarmed by the bugs. I've been trying to get into warhammer and thought this was part of the warhammer lore
I've never questioned anything, I just like spilling oil
Honestly came looking to learn lore for this game. Instead this comes off as mostly a quick summary of alien types with little to no lore on the story at all. Great explanation on factions and great insight on morality. This just doesn’t come off as a story explained. It feels more of a game review than lore dive.
Automaton propganda
Helldivers is basically Starship Troopers?
Could definitely be related
Sounds very familiar.
This does not sound like a story summery.

2:37 facade?
Well, at the beginning of the game the news reports that the 3 other factions had attacked Super Earth prompting the war. Now, if that is true or government propaganda we are never told from what I understand.

lol join the fight today!!!!
A facade is said "fa-sod" js. I didn't know till someone told me I was saying it wrong.
well super earth have three enemy faction that want to destroy humanity what i see are soldiers defending earth
Wait are you referring to gameplay footage or? Just want to make sure I understand your observation correctly! Either way thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
Lorewise, Super Earth has caused every single war with the other 3 races. The Illumini are invaded by super earth because they are accused of having WMDS. We invade the bugs because their nests are a fuel source for our ships. And the cyborgs are literally second class citizens due to being cyborgs and pushed into terrorist cells that are a stark reflection on the dystopian ethnostate that is Super Earth.
@DetectiveSeeds I think he might be saying that in his perspective the 3 enemy factions are in fact the aggressors, so the acts of the helldivers are defensive. I'm not sure I agree but that's what I think he meant.
Bro really pronounced façade "fack-aid"
