Enjoyed the comparison I am in the states where carrier deals save a lot of money. I traded in my s23 for the pixel 9 and paid only the sales tax. Probably premature but couldnt resist
Thank you! Fair enough - nice to get the phone basically free then! I've really enjoyed my experience with the Pixel 9 so far - it's a super solid phone. I hope you enjoy it! 😁
My Pixel 4 is still going strong! It’s running Android 13 and works incredibly smoothly. Plus, I still have unlimited photo storage. Honestly, I don’t think I need to upgrade just yet.
@arranpbrown just a suggestion... Instead of giving each phone points for pricing... You could divide its total score with the price factor and see which one comes out on top Just an example using top amazon prices for pixel 8 (14 ÷ 450 x 100) = 3.11 for pixel 9 (17 ÷ 550 x 100) = 3.09 This tells that the price to features/performance ratio of 9 is almost same as 8. This will also allow users to put in their region's price and get a better idea of what they're getting... Looking forward to watching more videos in this format 💯
Thanks for the suggestion - I think that would be a super interesting way to do it! However, I'm hesitant to do anything too complicated as I still want to make the video accessible for as many people as possible so it can help them - something like that may be slightly difficult to explain! However, I think the idea is excellent to get a proper 'value' factor for each device! Thanks for the suggestion! 👌
I don't have the budget to buy the pixel 9 in my country. But it's so beautiful that I don't feel like buying the 8 either :( Waiting so that the 9a has boxier design and symmetric bezels.
Yeah, I think the starting price of the Pixel 9 is too expensive no matter what country you are in to be fair, but it can be very expensive in certain countries which sucks 😞 I did see it down to £600 here in the UK in the recent sales though which I think is a much better price. Hopefully it comes down in price for you soon! And yes, I'm interested to see what they do with the Pixel 9a!
@@arranpbrown if you use idealo or similar price comparison engines you might find it for even less. let's say right now i see someone selling (one left!) for 500 pounds
You're lucky to have both those phones - they are both very nice! I've been loving my Pixel 9 since I started using it 😁 Thanks for watching and commenting 🙌
The thing is, these phones do not exist in a vacuum. Pixels only really shine in the camera department. Everything else can be had much cheaper and in a better quality from other manufacturers. The 8a for example gets KILLED by a Motorola Edge 50 neo for 300€. And there are many close competitors for the 8 and the 9 as well. Overall I think Google has lost it's former 'great value' stick due to their Apple-Like approach. They started selling the brand. Not the tech.
Yeah, agreed - there are plenty of more powerful phones out there to be fair. However, I do like Pixel OS as it offers some exclusive features that I really like and use frequently. I also didn't want to overcomplicate the video, so I've tailored it for people who are confident they want a Pixel but don't know which one to buy, if that makes sense. So this video does seem to have a bit of a narrow focus, but it was designed that way. That said, if you aren't set on getting a Pixel, I agree that the value proposition is far better from other manufacturers like Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus etc. Thanks for the comment! 😁
I agree the pixel 8 is fantastic value especially when on offer! This is the reason I didn't upgrade to the pixel 9 as there really isn't much in it. I would consider the 9 pro tho if it comes down in price! Great content enjoyed your video 👍🏻 pixel fan Kris ☺️
Cheers Kris! Yeah, there isn't any need to upgrade to the 9 if you have an 8! Yeah, the 9 Pro looks really good - may have to pick one up if it goes down in price like the 8 Pro has! 😁
None of your footage shows the Pixel 9 being on December QPR1 update which significantly improves its performance with new animations all around (same for other models). Pixel 9 with all of its improvements still shines as the best model to purchase having owned both the 8 and 9 myself. Especially the battery life, modem and thermals.
You're right - because it took me a long time to film and and edit everything together for this video, so I couldn't film it all again after the update came out. However, I'd argue that the Pixel 9 was still the best phone out of these 3 before the update anyway, and it still doesn't change the fact that the Pixel 8 is still the better value considering the much higher price of the Pixel 9, so it still wouldn't change the outcome of this video for me to be honest. However, good to note that the update has further improved the Pixel 9 - thanks for the comment! 👌
I dont get the build quality terms since most people keep the phones in the rubber sturdy cases.. i have the 8a, the screen little bit little and battery is weak 😢
Yeah, that's fair enough - I still think build quality is important in a phone to be fair! I quite like the size of the screen on the 8a, but if the bezels weren't so big then the phone would be even smaller, which I think would have been nice. But yes, I agree with your point about the battery, it's not the best!! Thanks for the comment! 👌
My 8 is great. Mom's 8a is great. Both phones were upgraded from previous Pixel's to get more storage (128 to 256 for both), but both preceding Pixels were great as well. All around solid. I don't feel like I am missing much not upgrading this year, even with the 9s being the unanimously chosen "best Pixels ever". Also, although the Pixel 6's fingerprint sensor was bad, I didn't have any issues with either the 7 or the 8's optical sensor.
Glad you are enjoying the 8! Yeah, there is definitely no need to upgrade from the 8 to the 9 as the 8 is already a really solid phone. I really enjoyed using the 8, but there were little niggles I had with it that the 9 solved - the 9 is just a more refined phone all round, which makes it a better experience, but it also costs too much for what it is in my opinion - especially if you already have an 8! And yes, 98% of the time, I had no issues with the fingerprint sensor on the 8, but it was only when I got the 9 that I realised that the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is definitely noticeably better and faster - you can quickly tap your finger on the sensor and it will work 99% of the time, whereas you have to be more deliberate and hold your finger on the 8 and 8a's sensors, which isn't an issue in real use, but stands out as slightly worse than the 9. Hope that makes sense, and thanks for the comment! 😁
I've not had any issues with scratches on my Pixel 9 - I've found the screen glass to be pretty scratchy resistant! Interesting to hear you've had a totally different experience, so thanks for sharing!
Pixel 8 is the best value for money, but please be aware of the green line display issues and only buy with a warranty (which is extended by google for affected phones).
I've heard a few people mention this, but I don't think anyone in the comments of my videos has mentioned ever having that issue, so I'm not sure how common it is. Then again, it's a good idea to get a phone with a warranty whenever you get a phone as there can always be faults or issues with any phone! Thanks for the comment!
Yeah, that's part of the reason it took me so long to put out this video 😅 I was there at the start of December - such a beautiful part of India! Maybe I need to go back so I can visit Calicut then 😁
Yeah, I get that - I felt exactly like that before I used the Pixel 9, but it changed my perspective! The 9 is just noticeably better - it's not that the Pixel 8 is bad, it's just noticeably slower than the 9 and does miss sometimes when my fingers are wet or too dry, whereas the 9 hardly ever misses. I hope that makes sense!
Wow, I get nowhere near that kind of screen on time - do you charge it during the day at all? I've noticed that it will just show the screen on time regardless of if you've charged it at all, so can inflate numbers a bit.
@@arranpbrownLet's start with the fact that I've turned off everything that is unnecessary. All location settings that are not needed and so on. I fully charge it in the evening and start using it in the morning, and I only put it on charge again late in the evening before going to bed, but it's not even fully discharged yet. It took me a long time to get everything sorted out, I mean all the settings need to be reviewed and everything that is unnecessary needs to be turned off.
