I watched this video 2 days ago. Today was the first day I actually got to try it. Unbelievable. Between this lesson and the lesson for seniors and people with physical problems, those 2 lessons were simply miraculous. I put that easy tempo swing with the Trevino left hand over my left foot. I literally gained 10 yards, bullet straight, lower trajectory, with spin. No more high stress on my lower back. I got done and felt like I had a nice walk in the sun. My ball position is just past middle towards the right foot. I haven’t had that much fun playing 12 holes in probably 2-3 years. I really like your chill way of giving lessons. If you get a bogie, it’s ok. That’s the type of golf I want to play. It’s not the end of the world if you can’t shoot par all the time. I also like the hot tub thing!

Two years of playing golf, plenty of lessons from PGA 'pros', and I still couldn't hit irons/hybrids consistently -- until I saw this video. I've been to the range every day this week and focused on leaning the shaft forward and positioning the ball just right of center. I'm now crushing the ball! Additionally, I worked on the "low and slow" method yesterday with great results. Can't wait to take this new swing to the course tomorrow. Thanks Jimmy - I'm going to buy your 3 hour video this weekend as a means of thanking you!
You're the only person I've found who has said this. I did this naturally when I first started and absolutely compressed the hell outta the ball. You're 100% correct. For whatever reason I thought it was wrong and went with a more "traditional" setup and haven't hit it like I did when I was new to golf. Recently I've gone back to this and the impact and compression I make with the ball is nuts. Right on man!! Also, bummer you got robbed. On a brighter note, your hair looks immaculate.
You are like me man lol. I am newer to golf. Have not broke 100. I went to the range one day and these 2 guys behind me were making videos of themselves. I started my stance with the grip over my left foot. I was compressing the ball and hitting shots I have never hit before and the guys started recording me lol. Then I thought it felt wrong and didn't set up like that again.
It's been over 30 years but I'll never forget the sound. I was standing 5-10 feet from Lee as he hit an iron shot into a par 3. Impact sounded like a gunshot. Talk about compressing a golf ball.
Good lesson, today. Pretty impressive as to what you've accomplished on a day that hasn't been easy. Good attitude is what you have on all days--even this. Hope you get some of your stuff back.
Took this tip to the range yesterday - and I striped the ball for the first time in ages. The compression was amazing! Love the no-nonsense way you approach golf. Thanks Jimmy!
Hi Jimmy, thanks for this video - perfect attitude to golf & good course management insight. I followed Trevino every hole in the final round of the 1971 Open at Birkdale. On one of the early holes he was about 25 ft from the hole. He stalked around the putt then hit it firmly. As it went into the hole (I think for par), I looked back at Trevino - he was already walking to the next tee! On the 11th he pulled his tee shot up into a sand dune in the left rough, close to me. The ball was a foot below his feet on sand. He described the shot he would play to his caddie, then hit a low penetrating seven iron, off his back foot onto the uphill green - astonishing. He went on to win, and to this day he's the best ball striker I've ever seen, live. Your tip here is how Trevino played every golf shot.
I saw this Lee Travino as a short, and thought of you. Your video on ball placement is criminally underrated. If anyone is struggling with hooks or slices, or ball first vontact, Jimmy has a video on ball position. Like all things Jimmy, it is simple and works.
Thanks for a great vid. A good golfer/storyteller talking golf tips and life lessons. No ego, no edits, no bs. And the production quality was great even with the backup gear. Sorry your stuff got stolen, but glad you didn't crash the truck. Just ordered Endless Summer. Will enjoy this weekend!
This post was so timely. I've played golf for over 45 years, and I realized that what you're saying is spot on. As soon as you lumped Hogan, Moe, and Trevino in the same thought pattern, I had to watch it. After trying to master the golf swing for myself, I've come to realize that I play good golf with the ball way back in my stance, with my hands very forward of the ball. It's as though all the contemporary "views/theories" are opposed to success. As a 20-year-old, I remember Trevino saying, "If you hit behind the ball, then put the ball BACK there". Boy, how right he was and IS. God bless you, sir.
Many many years ago, my dad and I were playing with this guy. He was talking about, I believe he said was his niece. He went on and on about how good she was and she was going to be great. Well, he was right! It was Nancy Lopez, right before she was Nancy Lopez lol. This was in Albuquerque, not long after the new University Of New Mexico golf course was built.

Thanks for the wonderful tip in this video! I went to the range today and felt like I had turned the clock back 10 years with how i was striking the ball.
Sorry to hear about your stuff. Loving your vids. Love that you don't over complicate things, seem like a genuinely great guy and could easily watch you playing 18 holes and not get bored
First of all i'm sorry that your precious equipment has been stolen, thank you so much for taking the time to shoot and prepare this video, it's really appreciated. I'm so excited about trying this out when i'm next on the range 👍🇬🇧

Full transparency I broke a hundo a few times prior, but the diff after being shown this . Day and night with my contact and accuracy. I’m not where I want to be yet , but man oh man the fun you have when you’re constantly on or near the fairways and greens
Yours are the most enjoyable golf videos. I really enjoy the format and the feeling that I’m on the course with you. Down to earth and common sense tips that have actually made a difference to my game. Thanks.
Good stuff!! Yes, getting the club head flush with the ball is key in your stance. Also minimizes the feeling of having to over swing ad fall backwards.
After being in the Golf business for many years I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time watching and hanging out with Trevino mostly on the putting green. The best I ever got was a 1 handicap and yes I totally agree, compressing the ball is key to consistency and accuracy. You must compress the ball first before you take any turf / divot. I do have some issues with your set up placing the ball so far back in your stance especially with the longer clubs. yes the best shot makers play the ball fairly forward in their stance and a rule of thumb among the professionals is if your game is off and you are not hitting your irons properly move the ball back in your stance until you got things straightened out and then slowly moving forward again. One of the axioms/sayings of the professionals is you have to earn the ability to move the ball forward in your stance. Yes I agree, your hands need to be ahead of the ball at impact but expecting your hands to be in line with your left foot at impact is very extreme. in fact, when you say your hands are in line with your left foot they really are not if you look at the video. lastly either your clubs are too short or you’re choking up way too much because your posture is much too bent over and needs to be more upright. Being bent over that much makes it very difficult to work the ball left to right when you want to.If you insist on setting up so bent over I hope you have your clubs adjusted to about 4° flat to avoid duck hooks from constantly hitting the heel of the club on the ground causing the club face to snap closed. My fondest memory of Lee Trevino was walking around with him the entire 18 holes at the Toshiba classic in Newport Beach California playing his last competitive professional round of golf. He effortlessly shot his age that day, a 71. By the way I love your personality and style, I don’t know where you are from but you are so East Coast, hair slicked back, down to earth, authentic and not full of yourself. love it🤣🤣
When you were talking about cutting your clubs to your 7 iron height, i was at the range trying to shoot my 5 iron and it just felt wrong, i choked up about 2 inches and suddenly was hitting fantastic!
I'm a new subscriber. This is probably my 3rd video of yours that I've watched, and I really love the way you teach the game. I'm so sorry your equipment was stolen! But, for whatever its worth, this video was really good, and informative! It makes perfect sense! Why waste energy going from one position, where you're likely going to early release, and flip, or fat the shot, instead of lining up with the ball back in your stance, and your hands in front of the ball, and compressing the snot out of it... I love it!!!
Glad you went ahead and made the video. I know it was hard to do after a theft. Your video and audio were fine and it was very informative. Good job !!!
I occasionally play the punch shot like you showed here in the video, and usually always hit it crisp. This is why golf is so challenging yet fascinating as former Master's champ Gay Brewer taught Freddy Couples the exact opposite, put the grip 'mid-body' with a kink or cup in the left wrist. Enjoyed your video.
@@TropicanaEntertainment Much easier. Saw a slo mo of Freddy with his hands isolated. He was actually starting his release at just before hip high in the downswing. His left hand began to rotate down. Probably had to do this to get the club squared up coming into impact from starting in the middle.

Another great presentation, Jimmy. Thanks. Sorry that dork stole your equipment bag. Impressed how you let it go, just like we need to after making bad shots.
Sorry to hear about your stolen equipment. You are handling the situation much better than I would. Keep up the great videos. BTW, do you have any tips/videos to correct hitting irons off the toe?
Jimmy….went to the range today and tried this…ball back or middle and hands in front to my right thigh (Lefty) and I liked it…I thought I would hit the longer irons low because of the forward press but it did not happen. One question though…the Driver…I know you are supposed to hit down on the 3 wood but I tried a couple drivers and it was low hooks…so how do you get this feel with a driver????
Awesome presentation...very solid advice; and it works. Many thanks! I'll make sure to share with the vets I play with in the PGA HOPE program in the Carolinas.
I've long thought that setting up where you want to be at impact makes the most sense. Having the hands ahead in the Y shape helps with ball first and low point ahead of the ball. Solid shots and contact. I want to brush the grass 6-12 inches ahead of the ball.
I agree this helps with compression and I'm sure there are many golfers that can play really good like this but from my experience to much forward shaft lean can cause big problems, if you want a lower longer flight just club dwn but definitely agree that you should not be centered at address slightly forward, if you lean your shaft to much when chipping you will shank everything
Thanks for the vid. Gold, basically trapping the ball on every shot. I like your style. Where do you position the ball when hitting driver and do you use the same technique when hitting driver?
My older brother Bill from Arcadia drank Coors with Lee Trevino & Hale Irwin many decades ago. Lee Trevino has some of the best short game tips, my favorite "The burning Wedge". Good Video topic!
Tried this with my "never used" 4 iron today (never used because I've always been scared of it, and would instead use a fairway wood) Unbelievable... The ball took off like I'd squeezed a lemon seed, and straight as a laser. With the added roll, I was hitting a PW instead of an 8 iron into the green. What a tip. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Liked, subscribed, and joined.
Started doing this last year.. was shooting consistently in the upper 80's. Instantly went to shooting in the 70's. Pretty much stupid easy, damn near 'fool'proof
Jimmy, your the Bob Ross of golf. "Its all going to be OK" "Look at the blue sky, its not falling" "Lets put a tree right here, its ok, its your tree" all you need is a fro.....
Thieves are assholes. Hate that happened to you. Thanks for the video. I also have learned a lot watching some of Lee's old videos. He was probably my favorite as a kid.
I have always thought this. Why start with your hands in the middle? I was really happy when I saw this tip from Lee probably 2 years ago on TH-cam. You grip the club differently in the middle compared to having shaft lean at address.
So I'm a scratch golfer. I can say without a doubt this is good info.. it also helps u with grip.. so bout ur loss bro, guess it's time to upgrade.. thanx for the time and effort.

Thanks for watching!!
I've long thought that setting up where you want to be at impact makes the most sense. Having the hands ahead in the Y shape helps with ball first and low point ahead of the ball. Solid shots and contact. I want to brush the grass 6-12 inches ahead of the ball.
That’s extremely correct. I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching. Be smooth.
ELVIS is in the building...thanks for the great tips.
nice tip. great explanation
Hands forward move really helped me out. I saw that in a golf magazine previously, your video was easier to grasp....ps your mike was fine
Thanks for watching. Glad it helped.
Definitely enjoyed that. Bravo
Thanks for watching.
I love that video. I learned a lot from Lee and I learned a lot about how to teach people by watching him teach
I wouldn't advise betting Hale Irwin on the putting clock.
Tried this with my "never used" 4 iron today (never used because I've always been scared of it, and would instead use a fairway wood)
Unbelievable... The ball took off like I'd squeezed a lemon seed, and straight as a laser. With the added roll, I was hitting a PW instead of an 8 iron into the green. What a tip. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Jimmy Tropicana, put me down for 3. Joking good points.
:)
Your video turned out great despite your loss. I'm so sorry. does that practice apply to Fairway Woods also?
Started doing this last year.. was shooting consistently in the upper 80's. Instantly went to shooting in the 70's. Pretty much stupid easy, damn near 'fool'proof
Love to hear this! Glad its working. Thanks for watching
Jimmy, your the Bob Ross of golf. "Its all going to be OK" "Look at the blue sky, its not falling" "Lets put a tree right here, its ok, its your tree" all you need is a fro.....
Great tip. Cant wait to try i! Thanks
Thanks for watching. Good luck
Tremendo , Love it....Cheers Amigo

Thanks for watching
Yes sir brilliant video 👍
Thanks for watching.
I am playing golf this weekend. I’ll let you know how I do. I’m going to put my left hand on my left knee every time.
I’ve only gotten to the 80s three times this year second year playing
With your right eye, put your hands over your left shoe
Hang tough Jimmy, thank you for all you do.
Thanks for watching!
This video deserved my like 👍🏾
Thieves are assholes. Hate that happened to you. Thanks for the video. I also have learned a lot watching some of Lee's old videos. He was probably my favorite as a kid.
Yes, sir Lee is one of a kind. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
Great video thank you
Also your sunglasses are very nice what brand are they ?
Hello, my glasses are a vintage pair of Jon Fontaine’s. I replaced the lenses :) thanks for watching
Excellent 👌
thanks for watching, be smooth.
I have always thought this. Why start with your hands in the middle? I was really happy when I saw this tip from Lee probably 2 years ago on TH-cam. You grip the club differently in the middle compared to having shaft lean at address.
You’re spot on! Thanks for watching. Be smooth
Well done for carry on with the video much appreciated another great tip 👍
Thank you for watching
Great. Do you shorten the swing to get more control and the compression makes up for less swing speed ?
I dont shorten it but I dont like a long swing. Short and slow believe it or not
Thanks for sharing...sorry about losing you gears and bag but very useful tip🙏
