It's good that Ziegu is trying to both innovate but also keep the radios at an affordable price.
I'm a fan - they aren't the best, but they provide good value at their price point.
They should actually finish a model before introducing a new one
I can't wait for the X6200 to become available so I can get a good price on the X6100!
I'll sell you might gently used one ;-)
Thanks for the update.
UBet!
They really need to release a HF/VHF/UHF radio.
This radio is supposed to have an expansion slot that will allow for transverters... time will tell.
Front panel layout very strongly resembles the ICOM IC-705.
@@WA1LBK Xiegu has been trying really hard to be more and more icom-like.
Been happy with my G90 for a while now but look forward to seeing some comparisons between it and the X6200. I appreciate your work, Steve.
Man, that would be a hard comparison - they really service two different markets and are both good in their own right. They overlap by using the same tuner and receiver. Its not even fair to say "one is 10w, one is 20w, therefor the 20w is better". Like all things in ham radio: It Depends.
Got it. So, not apples to apples but maybe more about form factor preferences which might include portability, ie. if POTA FT8 is your thing, don’t have to bring along the DE 19 and cables. Looking forward to more about the 6200.
TO! Thanks for bringing me up-to-date on the 6200. See you out there. 73 de Bill
Looking forward to it!
With the nice color screen,... I think an SSTV app would be a cool option,...
That would be great... and probably easier to do than FT8
I just HOPE they support this for a while. The GSOC had so much potential.
As did the 6100 AND the G90. Seems all of those have been dropped.
I'm on the same page.
Nice,
Thanks..
Would be interested in learning more about birdies and
Me too!

Oh,
I thought it was in your possession.
Not yet ... I wish.
Thanks 73
UBet!
Thanks for the 620 info. I too have the X6100. I also really like the SWR scanner. I have a remote tuner connected to a 400-foot-long wire. I use the SWR scanner to tune the remote tuner and just watch that SWR go down as it tunes it. Cool! Can the X6200 automatically transmit the FT8? I was looking at the sBitx v3 as it can do that. But no S-meter on that rig. No tuner either and no built-in battery.
I don't know yet if the X6200 will TX FT8... its certainly possible, the built-in computer in the X6100 can do it, so I'd imagine the new computer in the X6200 is at least that good.
@@temporarilyoffline Thanks! 73
It could sync ft8 timing to the traffic it sees rather than syncing the clock
It sure could
The X6200 is starting to look good! :-) After buying the little G106 I vowed that I now have enough radios, but... Anyhow - I agree that the X6100 is not "the best", but we have to acknowledge that the G90 (whilst also maybe not "the best" from a purely technical perspective) is absolutely superb! Xiegu for all their faults can make excellent radios. I would really like them to do a "shack in a box" that contains 160m to 6m as well as 2m and 70cm. Alternatively it would be fantastic if they can make at least one radio that can do HF plus 4m, which we here in the UK call the "Friendly Band". Way to go, TO! 73, Jan M7HNK
That would be great, I wish we had 4m in the US
Awesome 👍👍👍
Thanks for the visit
What camera are you using for the talking head stuff?
Depends, this was the dji osmo pocket 3. Most streams have just been the built in FaceTime camera in my macbook
What is the power output? I see videos talk about it but no word about the power output? Thanks WB9KQF
I just got a production model so I can test power output... stay tuned!
Needs a js8 decoder too
That would be neat.
Hi Steve, looks good. This one of the radios in the mix of radios on my purchase list.
I’ll let you know what radio I select for my first radio. Most likely will be something I can use at home and in the park.

David (VK2AAW)🎉
Let me know if you have any questions along the way. Its hard to go wrong with resale values being pretty good - -meaning you can usually get back out without much headache if you "bought the wrong one"

Hi Steve, thank you, I’ll let you know. A question about the QDX the manual talks about a 9v power supply, what watt should I use???
Chat soon be safe
David
@@davidm.wilson3736 The manual says 9v, 1.1a - so quick math says 9.9w power supply. You're the first person to ask that and Hans doesn't mention it at all. I have a video on my channel using the QDX with a 12v conversion and some AA batteries.
@@temporarilyoffline Hi Steve, your video on the QDX prompted the selection for my first project. The build was fun, I learned a whole bunch of new skills and now complete am ready to use it. Thanks for all the going support.

@@davidm.wilson3736 Glad it helped!
If it decodes FT8… how far a jump to decode JS8 call??? Now that would be slick
Probably not that far.
Did you see the Raddy RF919? I'm very curious about that receiver. Will you try it out?
I have seen it. What are some things you'd want to know about it?
@@temporarilyoffline I would like to see some tests about it. Is that as good as it looks?
Will there be a pre-order at some point?
I'm sure. But no details yet
Does your antenna tuner make the clinking sound like the g90 and the x5105 does. My buddy has one and I all it does is makes tone noise. Not sure if the radio is working right.
The clicking is the relays turning on and off tuning pathways in the radio. If you aren't hearing them and your radio isn't in tune, it's broken. Check your warranty/return policy
@@temporarilyoffline that is what I thought the 6100 should do the same thing as the other radios. Tnx for the input.
I heard end of May release and around $1k. Not sure how reliable either one of those is.
This is gonna be a hard sell at 1k
It would be really cool if this release wasn’t full of bugs like the 6100. I wish I could trade my 6100 in for this upgrade lol. Having a built in battery, tuner, and ft8 decode is a purchase point. Thanks for putting these videos out!
-73s
Oooh, trade ins on radios like cars would be awesome!
If it had VHF/UHF then I'd be sold, but currently I have no need to upgrade from the x6100 for even more than the 6100 cost
Its supposed to have a slot for a transverter... Time will tell.
Xiegu 1 or Xiegu 2 Some just don't know what to do? Tnx Man!
Answer: All The Xiegus!
Do you think this would be a good starter HF rig? I don't have the coin for an Icom or Yaesu.
Since no one answered, I say go with the G90 for a starter rig. It's a cool little radio, and you can always use it portable when you rig up to a 7300.
In the sense that you can learn and skill up to anything... yes. Will it be more difficult than starting with a 20w or even 100w rig...yes.
If you have a good Elmer to help you learn the tricks of trying to get a QRP radio working on the air, it can be a lot of fun/challenge.
The 20w Xiegu G90 is actually cheaper and would be easier to start with on voice modes.
Not trying to give you a run-around... its just not an easy answer.
@@temporarilyoffline Oh I don't think you're giving me the run around. :) An available Elmer.....well, that's the trick sometimes isn't it?
That said, what you provided here is good info to have. I'll look into the G90 as well.
@@michaelmeyer2725 Awesome - happy to help out. I guess its like learning to drive by using a formula 1 race car vs your dad's old wagon.
@@temporarilyoffline That's why I asked the question - I don't wanna buy a Ferrari if a Honda will do for now.
I can find nothing about the 6200 at this point that would compel me to purchase this unit over the 6100. Projected cost is significantly more, it does not have the benefit of multiple years of public beta testing, and I give up 1/5 of the power of the 6100 which was not a barn burner to begin with. I want to like it and have been waiting anxiously for it for sometime. Who knows maybe they are saving something for the big reveal?
The removable battery is the biggest reason over the 6100... if you don't already own one.
Thanks for the review
How many watt is it? Thanks for the video
Don't know yet... some sources say 8w, others say 10w.
Xiegu website in Europe still says 5w with battery, 10w external.
Do the chickens have large talons?
The roosters do, for sure.
I had a G90 some time ago but after Xeigu never responded to questions posted on the forums (no real support channel) by users such as myself, I concluded they basically "take the money and run". You said it yourself, the buyers are the beta testers. I suppose this wouldn't be totally bad except the cost of these radios really don't qualify for great values unless your expectations align with disposable gear! I'd rather have a Yaesu 891 without all the frills of a Xeigu since the Xeigus generally don't give what they advertise. If they say the 6100 will have such and such, and when you don't find such a feature, if it never shows up in a subsequent firmware update, just hold out for their next model and fork out another several hundred dollars because THEY will abandon previous models, that's what they do. If you're OK with that business model, by all means give them your money. But if you want what you're promised with real support, buy American or Japanese.
Yaesu or icom listen their customers opinion? Simply question.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but its hard to compare the 891 and the 6100 - They are both good at what they do... the 6100 delivers a lot of toys and hackability, while the 891 delivers a solid 100w radio with good noise filtering.
@TI2GBB Not that I know of. I haven't run into any large company that listens to its customers. Yaesu is a little better than Icom.
Any word on pricing?
Not yet - I'm guessing 6-700.
"FT8 Decoder"
How does it interface to PC software?
If you want to FT8 on the PC, you can use the USB ports.
@temporarilyoffline So...FT8 "decoder" means encoder, decoder, everything
@@LeeMcc_KI5YPR I don't have hands on, but I'm assuming that the radio only has decode baked into the firmware - and that if you want to encode, you'll need some type of computer. Hopefully they get bluetooth right and don't need extra wires.
I want one 😊
@@W6IWN_Radio same... Soon
Would be nice I'd they have fixed some of the issues that the 6100 had. The 6100 has a horrible front end as it picks up am.broadcast in a bad way. The DNF is absolutely horrible as it does NOT WORK. Just a couple issues.
Xiegu has trouble with AM Broadcast in all of its radios... seems like they spend more time on looks than on functions (and with the G90 battle wagon, that's saying something)
I bought and built that am filter you made a video about, and it works, but still get am broadcast
Why not take the G90 and improve that? It is a nice radio to take to the park or to do digital modes and CW with. Add a sound card and give it a bigger screen. The 20 watts is just enough to do the thing with. The main thing I don't like about what I see here is it looks like a video game from 1985.
I'm still waiting for a G90 improvement
So I guess decode only on FT8?
So far.
I wonder how much of Oleg's firmware they copied?
Maybe some of the FT8 decode... Xiegu farms out firmware dev, so anything is possible - "arms-length transaction"
None of the videos show it tuning across the band.
Reason?
That would show the horrific deal-killing birdies.
My 6100 has been pretty good overall. I can remember 2 times during my usage where I had birdies, but they couldn't be replicated and haven't come back since. I had a friend that had one that was nothing but birdies. These's aren't "great" radios, but they are a lot of fun.
Hi, Steve. Love your channel. Please use "sneak peek" not "peak". For your better writing.

All fixed, thanks for catching that!
Yes, 73! My fat fingers on a phone keyboard! Thx!
Only 8 watts?
Who knows... its possible, but would be foolish.
I prefer the look of the x6100 over this one.
Too early for me to tell yet, this is the 3rd change
I don't like the looks of this one. I will be keeping my 6100, as I am totally happy with it!
I'm not sure that looks alone are worth the upgrade. I have things I'm looking to see in a new radio for sure.
Yes the Sygoo oh wait it's spelled correctly in the title... I'm no mathemagician y'all but dang.

@@temporarilyoffline Tryna LOL LOL Oh uh oh God oh no, Elizabeth It's the big one. I'm coming!!!
right from the bat I hate that red lipstick button 🙄
Yeah, last model it was all black. They tryna steal from Thinkpad or something?
@@temporarilyoffline buahahaha we definitely work in the same industry “from a Thinkpad” LOL.
20 watts on battery power would be great, hopefully it’s at least 10 watts on battery power and 20 watts on power supply, I do like the external battery idea, and hopefully they made it where it can dissipate heat better.
Those are great ideas
Who said 20w? I keep seeing it's an "8-10w" radio.
The Europe website still says 5w and 8w.
waiting for anG9x!
I'm surprised they didn't converge the product lines into a 20w X6190!
@@temporarilyoffline That would make a lot of sense except they would probably make more money by having both models
@@temporarilyoffline I would love that!
Do you have any ideas for a budget portable amp for the x6100? I know portable and budget dont necessarily go together. Even 50w to lower the price would be OK.
Thanks for all you videos on the Xiegu radios‼️👍
@@markw.4679 I have run the XPA125B which has a handle, so its portable right? I have also heard good things about the MicroPA-50, but I haven't tested it personally: geni.us/4L5ECEa (affiliate) Better portability than the XPA, but less power. Its on the (very long) list of things to play with.
@@temporarilyoffline It is definitely smaller size and price than the XPA 125B!! I look foward to the video‼️👍
So, when you said you were on 6 MHz, the dial showed 50 MHz. Does it come with a secret decoder ring? LOL I dumped my X6100, just can't trust it in an emergency. I'm considering a G90 or used VX1700. If money wasn't an issue I'd go for an Icom F8101 or Barrett 4050 for AF MARS with ALE. 73! de WN7D

They can still do better changing out the RED TEXT for the Button Menus also,.... I was only able to change the Red on the button menus on a few of menus on the x6100,... But most of the button menus are hidden somewhere else (or maybe im Chinese,... So I couldn't find the code?)
It's being advertised for $1000+, for the x6200,.... And I don't believe the changes made are going to be worth that,... It would be níce if they could make Bluetooth AUDIO work,...
Still like my x6100,....but a removable battery would be better,....
Also,... I would rather have an SSTV APP, ,.... FT8CN works great with the x6100,... But would be nicer if Bluetooth AUDIO was working.
💯
I think $1000 is a bit steep for this one. I'm waiting.
Seems Xiegu is waiting a long time before releasing the X6200 compared to the X6100
I wanna say 5 months from tease to table-top.
This could've been a firmware update. This SHOULD have been a firmware update.
Right!
800 US dollars? I think not
My experience with the 6100 is pretty close to others who found it to have more birdies than an aviary & enough screen/scan artifacts to make it an obvious dog radio. I sold mine & replaced it with a 5105. Unless Xiegu completely re-engineered the 6200 & scrammed all the imported vagaries of the pretty much worthless GSOC, I would rather use one of those cheap Chinese clones of the uSDX/(tr)uSDX. Sad fact is the G90 & the X5105 are the present best choices of the Xiegu gulags, both of which radios I have and run. So for me, the ‘6200 is ‘a whole bunch of nope.’ (Hope to see you at Dayton.) 73 de W8IJN
I'll get one... but the jury is out on if it will be any better or not. I'll see you there!
