I just bought my first FN this last year around May. I got the FNX 45 Tactical, and it’s been on my bed side table every night since then, with a Holosun 508T up top, a TLR-1, and Rugged Obsidian 45 out front. Shoots like a dream, and hopefully wouldn’t make me temporarily deaf if I had to use it a few moments after waking up in the middle of the night. That would be nice if that 18rd mag would fit the FNX! I’ve got a couple 20rd mags for the FNX, but they’re ProMag so reliability isn’t it’s strong suit. 😢Wish I’d waited till this year….I’d much rather have a striker fired without a thumb safety. Well, actually anything without a thumb safety. 😂
The FN 545 Tactical looks great, but I have an FNX-45 Tactical. If FN ever releases a midsize 545 Tactical like they did for the 509, I would seriously consider it then. I'd almost even consider switching over from my p320 xcarry as my concealed carry pistol to a midsize FN545 Tactical if they ever release one.
FN bring the heat with their 509/509 adjacent products. I have two of them in 9mm. I'm not saying they're better then anything else out there, but they are awesome.
Got mine on the 3rd for this month and haven't been to the range yet, holster i found at Dara holsters should be here tomorrow and I'll be at the range Thursday.
I own the 545, 545T, 510, and 509. I don't like the ambi controls, and can't imagine why anyone who knows what he's doing, intends to carry, and puts adequate practice rounds downrange, would. Once again, making one size fits all, doesn't wind up being best. The worst thing is that the mag release sits very proud on both sides, which means that the mag will pop loose, with a mild bump, on the exposed side, leaving you with a single shot. I ground, polished and re-blued the exposed side of my mag releases, and can still release the mag from that side, with either hand. The 2nd issue I had, was the sharp rear edge of the slide release. After a 100 or so rounds, if I'm not careful, this sharp edge of the slide release eats into my strong hand thumb. I rounded this edge off, with a fine file. Unfortunately, removing the ambi slide release requires substantial dis-assembly, and the material does not cold blue, as it's stainless. Either of these issues is just as likely, whether the shooter is right or left handed. Having un-needed controls also makes the pistol bulkier than needs be. It seems obvious that LH parts availability would be the answer, but instead, FN compromised the pistol, for everyone. If you don't mind some rudimentary mods, high cost, and a bit of trigger creep, they're OK. So far, I've had great accuracy with HST in the 45, while the 10mm does well with the Underwood 220 gr hard cast rounds, and 200 gr Gold Dots. Both pistols shot point of aim for me, at 25, sub 2" from a rest, with those loads. Wish they would put lower profile sights on the .45 "MRD" version, which is what I will carry, and has a 4", non-threaded barrel. Howdy from Texas :) Edit 1/24: Finding holsters and standard height sites is still problematic, more than a year after this piece was released. The .52" front sight (why do they put these on a non treaded barrel pistol?) catch on the Craft holster I had made, to the point I've quit using it. Other options on the market limit sight height to .3x", when the factory sights are >52". Others spec only 1.5" belt width (for a 40oz pistol?). Even the FN site only offers the stupid 1/2" tall sights, and no OWB holster options. If you want a decent leather OWB holster, you may have a long lead time for an expensive custom option. Lastly, there is a reliability issue with the FN extended mags. I dropped one, and when it landed on it's base, the follower got hung at the bottom of the mag tube, leaving the mag useless, and allowing all the ammo to fall out.
I get called bias all the time about choosing FN I’ve either brands. Some people want multiple glocks and I don’t see the problem with investing a couple extra bucks in something more appealing. I love my FN’s and plan on getting both 510 and 545. I have the FNX-45 tactical and 509c. I plan on getting the midsize tactical as soon as tax return comes in but there’s honestly something about shooting fn that feels really good and will make you want to go through every round you brought to the range. Just like my DD-PDW lol can’t wait for the comparison video and the 510 video
Everyone has preferences, and most manufacturers have certain traits on the weapon that we get used to, I love HK and love the mag release….. but I have some SIGs and other guns too. Nothing wrong with favoring FN!
The FN rifle used in the Canadian Navy was the first gun I ever saw and handled. For some strange reason I intuitively disassembled and reassembled it without help from the instructors - this didn't go over well and I was relegated to the band and cleaning - they didn't even allow me on the shooting range when the rest of my unit did - Great video, Colion, excellent looking gun, handles well
Now I have to go try to get this gun added to the Maryland handgun registry so I can buy it… My cousin is still trying to kick my behind for making him fall in love with the 509CC edge after I showed him your review on it… He paid for the gun but was not allowed to take it with him because it wasn’t on Marilyn’s handgun registry. Finally got it added at the beginning of February and he hasn’t shut up about it cents! Another great video and another gun to add to my wish list!😅
Yeah…unfortunately for us Marylanders, we have to wait a few months before MSP (Maryland Slave Police) will allow us to have new arms. Should be able to get them by early to mid summer though.
@@905byrdmanx i’m going to head to the gun shop to get the paperwork started on adding it to the registry tomorrow… I think this Maryland handgun registry thing is ridiculous… It’s not like any of them shoot nuclear missiles or anything or like they are machine gun pistols. SMH
7:00 there is a cut. Starts shooting with the 15 rd but then got the 18rd extended in the pistol. I think this pistol needs a 13rd flush fit mag. But anything else looks good.

I imagine it's fantastic because the FN 509 Tactical I have is the absolute most comfortable firing machine. It just FEELS good. I say, if something can shoot like butter, it's the FN 509 so no doubt at all that this one does too.
The only gripe I have with the FNX .45 Tactical (yes I own one) is the sand paper grips. I work as an auto mechanic for the last 14 yrs and my hands are rough textured; that FNX turns em raw after a while lol but I get why they made them rough like that. Running my suppressor on it is a lot fun.
Check out Handle It Edge grips! They’re rigid enough to keep the firearm in your hand but they’re somewhat rubbery. It’s a great combo and would help a lot!
If a war happens I’m using a shoulder rig with a mossberg shockwave holster, .45 handgun holster, for whatever one I choose, likely this or the FNX .45, and a rifle in sling. And then a helmet, night vision, alloy body armor, backpack, and a chest rig for some ammunition. Likely a satchel as well for some extra space. I’ll be ready for war.
Compare and contrast to the 1990’s legendary HK USP 45 Expert please. That is the best 45 ACP platform I ever shot. The SA/DA trigger on the USP is the best stock from the factory trigger on an pistol I ever had the pleasure of using. And the USP platform handles recoil like a champ. From your video I see the FN 545 does as well plus have an 18+1 rd option 😎👍🏽
I had a mk23 that probaby had the best dasa polymer framed trigger i have felt. It shat on the p30L, glocks, and Fn fnx. Felt like the beretta m9a3 but in a poly gun. The USP family shits on any other 45acp poly. Prove me wrong. (Walther boys have entered that chat)
Hk usp 45 blows compared to an fnx45.... if the 545 is better than the fnx45 why would anyone waste time talking about a heavy low capacity overpriced overhyped HK?
@@trumpwon20204Have you ever fired a USP or HK 45? They’re phenomenal pistols. I’ve fired a FNX 45, and the USP has a better trigger and is more accurate in my opinion. The FN pistols may have greater capacity and the capability to mount optics, but that’s not enough to put them over the USP for me.
It's a good one my buddy got one. We shot it the other day. It's good but I have a fnx 45. It's closet thing I could find that shot as soft as a pair of cz-97s I have. That being said cz 97 10 rds fnx 15 rd and 545 15 + 3extension . Hard to beat.

Colion, when you do the full run the gun test, please include some 45 Super. I like 45 ACP, but I carry 45 Super in my HK. I'm actually surprised vendors haven't up scaled new 45 ACP's to 45 Super as it answers the question of "Who needs a 10mm?"
More specifically, this should run BB or Underwood's 255gr hardcasts 45super for dangerous game. I know 10mm is the popular answer, but it's really not. I'm looking for a 1 shot stop with dangerous game, not an entire mag dump of 10mm to stop a baby moose or black bear. 255gr hardcast at 900fps have been 1 shot stops since 45colt from the late 1800s. I really like this design, only a bit smaller than the FNX45T, my G30S has been my woods carry 45super based on overall weight and size. It still has this gun beat. Somehow, I feel that the 18rd mag won't run the 255gr 45super without modifications. I use a modified 18rd ETS mag for the G30S and it will run 17+1 flawlessly. I lost 1 round of capacity due to the mods. I'm sure I can do the same modification to FNs 18rd mag, but it would be better if I don't have to.
The FN 545 is an improvement over the FNX 45. The newly released 545 is shorter, a bit slimmer, and less heavy; also, the striker-fired trigger system makes it more practical than the chunkier, heavier FNX 45 double/single action. I am impressed and happy with my 545, which can be carried concealed in an OWB Kydex holster. It is a matter of wanting to, without seeking maximum comfort.
It's not an improvement at all... They're 2 different guns. The 545 is a more carry friendly defensive based gun. The FNX is a no comprises, higher performing offensive gun. The 545 has to give up alot compared to the FNX, switching to a less reliable striker fired design (which naturally have horrible triggers as they're essentially double action only). They also have shorter barrels and are lighter than an FNX so the recoil will feel a bit more.
@@collegestudent6071 the FN 545 Tactical is a better handgun design than the heavy brick FNX 545 Tactical. Of course, you keep your FNX at home. I carry my FN 545 with ease. *To each their own.*

A couple extra bucks? I wish I had your budget. Retired and fixed income. Just sayin'.

@@rudolphmarchand9644 ahh sorry to hear you have been disabled your whole life. Good that you get to shoot through your disability though!
Looks like to me, you're found a great home defense weapon!
I love .45
GREAT PIECE 👍 I need to get 1 or 2 of them that is what my girl should be carrying EDC ASAP
Comment for the algorithm.
That said, watching Colion having so much fun.....is fun, in and of itself.
The FN rifle used in the Canadian Navy was the first gun I ever saw and handled. For some strange reason I intuitively disassembled and reassembled it without help from the instructors - this didn't go over well and I was relegated to the band and cleaning - they didn't even allow me on the shooting range when the rest of my unit did - Great video, Colion, excellent looking gun, handles well
Uhhhhh autism
Literally just bought the FN509C for my EDC just for 2 brand new FN handguns to come out 😖
I have both the hk 45c tactical and fnx 45 tactical but i cant wait to pick this gun up havent been this excited in along time 😮💨
Im an 45 acp fanatic im like a kid in the candy store when i see this gun fn knocked it out the park with this and the 510👌🏽
I was going to buy this gun no matter what the review said because it's an FN and whether it's a FNX-45, 509, or SCAR....I love them all! I love the FNX-45 in fde so much that I almost bought it in black and probably will at some point.
Yep---overpriced parts that are never in stock, poor service, might as well get an HK
Not everyone has your money brother! Glad we have you to help us make up our minds on what to drool over that we still can't afford. 😭
Didn't like the big base plates on the 545. Got an fnx and am very happy.
Oh wow! I thought the FN10 Tactical would be a good one. Now I’m gonna have to look at the FN45!
Had the FNS40. Amazing gun that I didn't like. Father has it now and it's his favorite handgun he's ever had.
Got myself M&P2.0 in 40 and love it. Then got Ruger 57 and once I get s level 2 retention holster it'll be my carry
I would try a newer model FN , I personally would never get FNS ___ anything
I imagine it's fantastic because the FN 509 Tactical I have is the absolute most comfortable firing machine. It just FEELS good. I say, if something can shoot like butter, it's the FN 509 so no doubt at all that this one does too.
Sick review brother ... your energy as ur shooting makes me want to go get one asap
Colion , do you prefer striker or hammer and y?
I’ve never seen Colion so giddy about a firearm. Now my curiosity is peaked so I’ll have to shoot one.
I work at fn and build these along the scar and fn15s
The 510 is lovely as well
The only gripe I have with the FNX .45 Tactical (yes I own one) is the sand paper grips. I work as an auto mechanic for the last 14 yrs and my hands are rough textured; that FNX turns em raw after a while lol but I get why they made them rough like that. Running my suppressor on it is a lot fun.
Run some sand paper on it
Check out Handle It Edge grips! They’re rigid enough to keep the firearm in your hand but they’re somewhat rubbery. It’s a great combo and would help a lot!
I didn't know till after I bought it and turned the lights off the sights glow 😅 gun is sexy feels great and a great buy ❤
Fun watching! Love my FNP
Definitely want a base model. Don't need the Tac version
I wonder what sounds You'd make with the 510!?!?!?!?
Ughh uhh-uhh ugh
Waiting for it Brother!!!!
I’m coming Colion, love your content bro. I’m tryna get on your level.
GUNGANG!
FN definitely stepped up when designing the FN-5 Series Platform
Man that thing is cool! It’s well suited for someone as cool as you Colion lol
Have you ever reviewed a high point? That would be hilarious.
My c9 would give that FN a run for it's Monday
Compare and contrast to the 1990’s legendary HK USP 45 Expert please. That is the best 45 ACP platform I ever shot. The SA/DA trigger on the USP is the best stock from the factory trigger on an pistol I ever had the pleasure of using. And the USP platform handles recoil like a champ. From your video I see the FN 545 does as well plus have an 18+1 rd option 😎👍🏽
@@FM-xr5nj Match grade trigger from the HK factory with a 3.5 lb break in SA.
@@FL-Kaiman IMHO.... For me the best factory polymer frame trigger is Walther PPQ and the CZ P10c
That's the sexiest assault pistol I've seen since my old H&K USP
40 cal.
Hell yeah! That muzzle is bouncing like a .40s&w. That's either a really good gun, or you're making it look easy. (Both)
That was fun to watch. Loved the gleeful enjoyment😆
I been waiting on this..I no you gone give a real review 😃 thank u....
“I’m the moment…” pauses to send one down range right quick 😂
Just some ⛽⛽⛽ for the algorithm. -CCDL member from CT.
I didn’t know you had a trx man!!?? Sweet ride and sweeeetttt pistol!!!!
I love the 45 calibur recoil impulse in a great gun. I love my 45 shield performance center and my CZ 97B 45. It is so much fun to shoot them.
I'd love to be able to afford FN 545 and a great 1911 and the CZ P-10F 45 just to name a few.
The CZ 97B is such a great gun. I feel like it doesn’t get the love it deserves.
@@bucknasty69 you are so right.
700 horsepower 🤣, but the 545 is bad ass bro. Thanks for the show brother!
I ONLY BUY GUNS REVIEWED BY YOU AND HICKOK45 PERIOD AND I HAVE TO WATCH BOTH REVIEWS EVERY TIME
The enthusiasm (and giggling) is contagious lol
Just placed an order for me one
Dang I was thinking about getting the 509 but that thing looks thicc!!! Only it needs a hammer!!!
Would you appendix carry this with a mag side car ? Or will I be the only one ?
@@TheSgtDelta I easily carry the 545 inside an OWB wearing an untuck shirt or a jacket or a coat or a loose-fitting T-shirt. No problem.
The FNX 45 is BIG. It feels bigger than it looks. But it's a proven tank.
Already bought one can't wait till it come in!🔥🔥🔥
I’ve been considering a 45 for home defense because it won’t penetrate as much as my other guns. This may be the one.
Colion: *Holds up 545* “This might be the best 45ACP pistol ever.”
1911: ”Are you challenging me?!?”
It’s an awesome gun. Getting one. Great review
