  • This turned out to be on the long side so I cut it into 2 parts. The 1st part is mostly about taking off the old lines and the parts of the AC equipment as well as how to clean the Evaporator and Condenser both on the outside as well as the inside. Part 2 is on putting it all back together, evacuating the system and then charging. It is running very nice and cold in the cab now.

Excellent, thorough work Tim. Best tractor a/c video I’ve seen yet.

Thanks. I was trying to hit on the not so normal stuff but cover all the other things as well. That's why I thought it was getting long. The rest should be done and uploaded on Monday.

It is good stuff but be careful with it. It can burn your skin. I have a scar on the back of my wrist from using it years ago. Thanks for watching and commenting.

It is not something you want to do with the evaporator still in the cab. It will flood the drains, lol. It is something that is good for the condenser, oil cooler, and radiator to clean out for air flow. Thanks for watching.

Tim with the cleaning, thorough cleaning that you're doing here and then the keyword evacuate as in put a vacuum on the system I believe you're going to have a really good reconditioned air conditioning system working at Peak capacity.

It should be like bran new. It was nice and cold when I was done. Sometimes it is worth the effort to go the extra mile. Thanks for watching.

Can you provide sources for the new AC parts and the cleaning supplies you used on the AC components. I’ve got a 986 that needs an AC system overhaul. Great video, thanks for posting it.

Thank you. The parks were from a mix of my local CaseIH dealer and Anderson Tractor. Anderson Tractor is local to my area used parts tractor store that could get the parts, but you have to know the exact part. If there are 2 or more parts, it is up to you to know which you need for your tractor. I paid a little more for the dealer parts but in the end, it was worth it because there is an sr# break for different parts. Because they ordered the wrong parts, they ate the cost. The cleaning was from a local HVAC store. Hopefully, that will help you, and good luck.

Well that was some good information. What does the nitrogen do

Thank you, the N displaces any other gases that are in the system. If the is any moisture in there, it will cause the oil to make an acid and contaminate the system. The evaluation process will remove that moisture by reducing the boiling point temperature from 212 degrees down to 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Yes, if you pull a vaccum to fast the water can actually freeze before it can boil out. So if it is only N in the system, it is easier to get a good deep vacuum and remove all moisture and noncondensable.
