Fine dining is a fantasy of perfection that is achieved, and repeated dish after dish.
For food at that level their presentation (due to rushed preparation) was not correct.

Maybe that’s something she’s always struggled with, I don’t know, but from my personal experience I’ve been a lot harder on myself since becoming a mom. I did fieldwork on the coast of Hudson Bay during the summer for a few years. One time, our boat ride from town to our field site was a couple hours late because they were out harvesting sea urchin. I don't speak Inuktitut, and our boat driver had limited English (and his wife none), but they broke out some of the urchins as a snack for themselves and I was visibly interested so they offered me some. Spent the two hour boat ride learning how to crack open and clean the urchin (a cup of Hudson Bay water to rinse) from the wife while he drove. He didn't need to translate - body language and demonstration were plenty. Lots of laughter at my (very poor) knife technique as I practiced. It was a feast! There really isn't anything like really fresh sea urchin.

"That hazelnut mayo is actually NUTS." Vaughn always killing me in the best way with the puns 🫠
And Sohla!! That spread looked sooo fire. I second all the other commenters in encouraging her to let go of the self-criticism (but let me take my own advice first lmao).
Great job to Ham, too, for his prowess in the kitchen and in being such a positive force in Sohla's life 🤌

I smiled this entire video because they are so brilliant!! Love to hear the inspiration behind all of the dishes and the creativity of the ingredients. It looks delectable even if the presentation wasn't Michelin restaurant quality. I would eat this from Ham and Sohla in a HEART BEAT!

Sohla, Ham, AND Vaughn in the same video?? You're spoiling me! Also, all of the dishes make me want to try uni because I've never tasted one before. I never knew uni can be served with so many different things!

Not meeting their own standards of finesse make total sense, but honestly that's the kind of restaurant I want to go. Where it''s great flavors and good food, but not so precious about every single detail. It's just my personal preference, and I could 100% see the meal they made being worth $200+ at a restaurant.

No, actually! That was the best unintended pun I've heard 😂

I'm always amazed at how really talented people discount their ability to make something simple and delicious, and only see imperfections in finesse, rather than how amazingly good the product is because of their skill. It's the curse of a good eye.

what a creative succession of taste experience! How much you respected the 1st material which is really so exuberant and elegant at the same time. Congratulations to the two cooks! It would be very interesting if there was a restaurant where you could taste this whole menu of taste experience. very nice ideas, playful and youthful! Well done!

OMG. Best uni-lateral challenge ever! I want to live in this uni-verse! or go to their uni-versity! Uni? Yes, you! Something about the sea urchin shell and the baby carrier and Sohla with the baby and the champagne and Ham just cruising through those dishes was just the most intimate sea symphony. Thank you for my overnight shift entertainment! I hope they keep the illustrations and frame them in their kitchen. or bathroom. Uni-Me-Happy!
