Robert...my husband and I are real fans of your vlog. And although we're no longer campers, we are keen fans of travel, and seeing this country. Your travels have been helpful to us, and your pointing out interesting and historic places, has rekindled a renewed interest in our upcoming traveling agenda. We especially have enjoyed your journey of the Lewis & Clark expedition...excellent information and wonderful photography. Thanks again Robert and safe journey.

Hey Robert, these Lewis & Clark episodes keep getting better and better! I really like that cutaway model of the keel boat, very well done. The augmented reality app is really impressive! Even though it's not part of the theme of your journey, I'm a bit surprised you didn't plan a quick stop in Columbia MO to pay homage to Ghost Dancer, the "Blue Highways" van that inspired who knows how many road trips. Oh well, I guess there's just never enough time to see everything, eh?

I always enjoy the historical facts you share with us Robert. I guess when people did not live as long as they do today, Lewis and Clark were considered middle aged when they set out. It is interesting how perspectives change with time. Looking forward to Kansas City.

Seriously, i'm following and enjoying it, I have been thinking of a similar trip myself since I was in Glacier NP around the time of the 200th anniversary of the corps journey.

BEWARE of East St Louis!!! That area is the roughest part of the area by far. Locals at a gas station warned us about it and told us to get in our car and don't stop again until we were out of East St Louis. Just an FYI for future reference. Great video BTW.

The lower mounds at Cahokia are, as I remember, pretty much all burial mounds and climbing them would be bad form. I'm glad you stopped to see Woodhenge there, it may have been underwhelming but it's an important find (a colleague I've met was in charge of several of the digs at Cahokia including Woodhenge).
There are many complexes with celestial alignments which are almost certainly ceremonial calendars, I'm aware of several including one between Tallahassee and Monticello Florida (Letchworth Mounds Archaeological State Park) which is very close to other mounds and complexes in structure (ones with significant celestial alignments). People don't realize the size and scope of Cahokia - it was in essence a Capital for the culture and there were complex trade connections throughout most of the US. People also have this idea that we (as I've said earlier, I'm a descendant of an offshoot of the Mississippian culture) were relatively primitive before Europeans came, but nothing could be further from the truth. Cahokia has most of the markings of being a State level society, with multiple political levels, complex long-distance trade, and influence extending down into Florida for instance. We had specialized labor producing trade goods at Cahokia (and elsewhere), organized division of labor, and there is evidence that any violence connected with Cahokia was meant to repress groups that would have predated on towns and villages connected to the capital there and prevent them from causing problems.
At one time in history, some of the biggest cities in the world were on this continent, and Cahokia was one of them. There are others (and there have been complex cultures both before and after Cahokia, like the Hopewell culture, and many of them were not as stratified as people used to think (some were quite egalitarian, like certain ones in Florida).

Actually, Poverty Point in NE Louisiana pre-dates Cahokia by more than one thousand years. The state of Illinois is a poor custodian of Cahokia (visitor center hours vary???). I hope someday the NPS takes control.
