Today we’re dealing with a heavy topic. Pun intended. My guest, Vanessa is sharing it all from her struggles with self-image, how she deals with disrespectful girls who try to date her boyfriend, job recruiters who cut interviews short after she shows up on a Zoom call and even how she navigates airport/airplane drama.
This is an in-depth conversation about Vanessa’s weight loss journey, the stereotypes she has encountered over the years and the advice she has for dealing with online bullies. It’s a conversation you don’t want to miss. Enjoy!

the woman in the video telling men not to date bigger women so that they lose weight has nothing to do with the women losing weight. she doesn't give anything about whether other women are big or not, what she does care about is that big women are getting men over her. the tone of her voice and video was not that of caring, it was frustration and condescension. she was hurt. for whatever reason. my guess, like i said, is that she took runner up to a bigger woman and she was not happy about it. people need to stop thinking that when someone has something that they want, that it would be theirs if it was but for that person.

This is so infuriating!!!! My bf met me at 200lbs (19yrs, 5'8). He made me feel loved, he supported me before and during my weightloss journey. He didn't make me feel bad for falling back. He'd give me a gentle push. I struggle because of my PCOS and he understands that. PCOS girls will know how f**king hard it is to lose weight. I'm still overweight and fighting and he's still loving and supporting me. I want to marry him so much aha
I felt her with the plastic chairs. Literally the mood in Trinidad. Would just double up the chairs. I'd wear long sleeve clothes to cover my arms and upper thighs. I don't hate myself all the time but I also want to feel fit and feel more healthy. I also won't shit on anyone else for staying their size and being content. It's their business, not mine.
My feet are bloody big and I struggle to find shoes without searching a lot.

Online shopping is such a blessing because you can just find stuff in your size and style so quickly! A lot of cute shoes only go up to size 9 in physical stores and I'm a 10.5W to 11W. As soon as I understood it had to be lifestyle, not a diet, things fell in place. Other people don't have to eat a certain regiment or work out, but i do. Not for short term changes, but as a lifestyle of my best health.
    ⭐ Eat whole unprocessed food.
⭐ Reduce Alcohol, Sugar, Carbs, Breads, Rice, Pasta.
    ⭐ Boost vegg/fruit intake.
    ⭐ 30min Sunlight Daily.
    ⭐ 30min Exercise Daily.
⭐ Drop all sugared drinks except water, tea, natural veg/fruit juice.
    ⭐ Sleep at least 8hrs.
⭐ Utilize fasting. Both intermittent and multi day.
⭐ Avoid the middle isles of grocery stores. Shop the walls only.
⭐ Natural state foods. Forresr, Farm, Fire, Flood. If you can't find it on a *Farm* or *Forrest*, don't eat it. If you can't cook it with *Fire* (oven), or *Flood* (boiling) don't eat it.

I've struggled with my weight my entire life and managed to get down to 170+lbs and even at my heaviest (249lbs) I've never been met with such disrespect from random strangers about my weight, much less when out with my partner.
Maybe it's because of where I live or something, but it makes my skin crawl knowing that there are people who would have the nerve to not only insult someone for their weight in public for no reason but also do so in front of their significant other while flirting with them. Absolutely disgusting.

Hi my dear, I often stumble on your post, and I am always so happy with your balanced take on issues. However, this particular video struck home because I am overweight and it is a problem I have had for years. Losing weight has been a struggle. I recently found out that my issue was hormonal, and I am now better able to handle my weight loss, which continues to be an adventure at best...lol. You treated your guest with such respect. You know, it's the small small percentage of people that tend to ruin things. People can have whatever personal beliefs they want. But there is no excuse for putting someone down based on a superficial characteristic. One of my best friends is plus sized and I would never consider her less than because of it.
As a man, I've been with a few plus-sized women. When it comes to the bedroom, my experience has been that there are less...umm...position options if you know what I mean (based on my experience but not generalizing to all plus-size women). For me, I find the physical aspects of a relationship very important...so I didn't like that 'limiting' factor. But I would never think to suggest weight loss or to shame a woman because of it.
People on planes need to get over themselves. Flights may be long, but it's only temporary. If they don't have the grace to keep their thoughts to themselves, they are the ones that look bad.
As far as job opportunities...one idea to explore is that maybe employers think there is more likelihood that a plus-size employee will have to take more time off due to health issues, or that it might be more expensive when it comes to providing health care to employees (especially if an employer is self-insured).

There are some body positivity activists who give the movement a bad name by making claims of fatphobia when MDs mention medical risks that come from obesity, or when some people aren't sexually attracted to obese people. Otherwise, there are real examples of fatphobia, and harassment that really do occur. I know that a 30+ BMI doesn't always lead to health risks. Btw I try to make a distinction between the two.

I’m only 115 lbs and I fly a lot. Do I love having someone spilling into my seat? No. Do I think that it’s horrible and hate them for it? Also No. We are in it together, and there’s no point in being rude to someone over something that they can’t fix in that moment. In fact, if it’s my husband and me, I’ll switch with him if someone is heavier so that they have a little more room with me than with my hubby. I don’t mind sharing the seat that I’m not using with someone who needs it even tho there isn’t much room to start. It’s cramped for everyone but especially for people who are heavy. They deserve more compassion in that situation, and maybe I’m too nice but I don’t think so. I’ve never been heavy, but I wouldn’t want someone treating me like crap over it, so I don’t get people who treat heavy people like they are horrible for being heavy.
This is going to be unpopular but I do have to say though that while I hate that they have to do it, sometimes it’s necessary for a heavier person to buy 2 seats. If they genuinely need the extra room. And the reason is that it’s unfair to the person next to them who is healthy to be punished for someone else’s issue. Like I will sit next to them to help avoid it, but sometimes there just isn’t another choice. Personally I’d rather deal with someone spilling into my seat than to have all plane tix be outrageously expensive. I have a lot of compassion, but I do think there are times when compassion doesn’t fix things.

It's not just being overweight but being underweight is also another problem because people sometimes starve themselves just to 'fit in'. These are some reasons to gain weight: Genetics, Stage of life, Lifestyle factors, Environmental factors, Medical conditions, Medications, Eating too many highly processed foods, Eating too much sugar.
These are just some reasons but can also be some major issues that would/might cause weight gain. I used to be between 115-125 and I was scared to death because my doctor was very concerned that something was wrong with me. But it didn't hit me that this might have been a possibility: the food that I ate, I did a lot of walking when I was younger and burned off a lot of the sugar I ate. Now, today, I am between 220-230. I would like to be under 200 but not anywhere near to what I once was. My shoes size hits upon a size 14. But I would definitely like to rid myself of at least 30 lbs.

Coach is too small for us so we need two seats so that we are comfortable as are others. This is reality. I am a disabled vet, so it is hard for me to work out as much as I want to. There are times when I am in so much pain I don't want to move. But I still have to eat to live. Now I also try to eat more healthy, smaller meals and on those days that I can move good I will do a lot of walking. I do not want to get into the habit of taking pain pills every time I want to move, and some people will say do whatever it takes. well, whatever it takes will get me hooked on pain pills and all kinds of health problems cause of it. Some people can be so cruel, and it is people like that girl is when God ask us to forgive because she does not know what she is doing. Or maybe she does and does not care. The reason some people who eat healthy and excercise are overweight is because we are all different people with different bodies. We all process food differently. Our brains process food thoughts differently. Our bodies deal with stress differently. My son youngest son eats more than anyone but is tall and thin. He was born like this. It drives me crazy when people put others down. Why can't people just be kind to each other. All our problems could be solved if society celebrated kindness more than snarkiness.

    • @karenkendrick
      @karenkendrick 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@justt1984 This is just one normal body process that can trigger weight gain.
"Whenever you're stressed, your body kicks into fight or flight mode, causing it to release the hormone adrenaline to help you fight off the perceived threat you're feeling anxious about. To build up energy to deal with this threat, your body also releases glucose, or sugar, into your bloodstream. When your adrenaline wears off and your blood sugar levels drop, the hormone cortisol jumps in to provide you with more energy to continue addressing the threat.
Since cortisol stimulates the release of insulin in order to maintain your blood sugar levels, it can also trigger sugar cravings and your appetite in general. Giving into those cravings could lead to weight gain. In fact, research shows that people with higher weights tend to have an increased cortisol response to stress, says Vidhya Illuri, MD, an adult endocrinologist in Texas.
Not only can cortisol make you hungry, but it can also slow down your metabolism at the same time (another mechanism to help you conserve energy so you can deal with whatever is going on). After having their metabolic rates measured, women who reported one or more stressors the day before burned fewer calories than those who didn't, found a study in the journal Biological Psychiatry"

It’s Resting Metabolic Rate- RMR. I have known some overweight people whose rate is 1,000 calories or less so that even when they don’t eat much it still goes over their calories burned therefore they will not lose weight. I have been obese for a few decades so I know the drill but I make zero excuses for ‘why’ I am obese as I personally know the why and am finally fixing it now. At any rate, most people need to get their RMR done so they then know what cals they can or cannot eat.

I've struggled with weight most of my life. I choose to be a healthy weight now. It's been a challenge, but once I found the "secret" (eat less, move more) my life improved. Unless you have an underlying health condition, it's simple math. The world isn't built to accommodate obese people. They are the outliers. THEY need to make the necessary changes to live healthier lives. I have compassion, because that was me at one time. But ultimately, WE are in control of our bodies.

I think some people hang onto emotional wounding and they can struggle with their weight/self concept and that can even be enough to keep it on and to identify w it. Regardless of what you eat/exercise. I've seen it a lot in my work. Then you have some insecure thing going "under stress I get soooo thin I can't believe thats true" Thats them inserting themselves to invalidate you/feel superior. instead of trying to hear your struggle. Ayyyy Family its me again, Every now an then you touch on a subject that just suck me in, and this one hit home, I am fat, overweight, chunky, fluffy, what ever you wanna call me, I don't care ine shame about nothing. Ever since I was an adult I was fat, i'm not a big eater at all, (all the skinny people say, yeah right), I use to go to the gym, I tried Every Diet known to man, I even had gastric bypass surgery, I can tell you what works and what don't work I have lost 100lbs three times in my life, and as fast as I lost it, it turn around an come right back, I can barely eat a sandwich, and im full, two slice a pizza and I'm full, I'm a whopping 300lbs, but im a tall 300lbs, So why am I so fat, who the hell knows, I go to restaurants and watch lil skinny narrow hip people sit down and eat three times what I eat, and I gatta wonder, where the hell these people puttin all this dern food, I go to like the Olive Garden and red lobster, and by the time my food come I done stuffed with cheddar bay biscuits or the appetizer and garlic bread, my food gern home in a take out container, and even so I making at least two meals out of that! so This begs the question, why am I so fat, well I have obesity on both sides of my family so im predisposed to be fat, its in the jeans. plus the food you buy now a days is not the best quality, its full of chemicals and steroids, things that are unhealthy for the body, Its a struggle. I need all the lil narrow hip people to understand something, no one wants to be fat, no one wakes up in the morning and say, hey, I think I wanna be fat today, Obesity is a curse, and to people like me, food is also a curse, you know whats sad? I can go all day without eating, go outside in all this heat and sweat buckets, and wont lose Not one flippin ounce, its a curse, the food industry benefits off of our misery, the weight loss industry is making billions off of out misery, no one knows the real reason why People are fat, And if they did, they wouldn't tell you. If there was a cure they wouldn't give it to you, There is no money in cures, why should the cure you when they can make a ton of money on treatments, why should they cure obesity when they are making billions of dollars on weight loss products! I am Fat, I don't want to be fat, If I never put an ounce of food i'm my mouth ever again I would be happy food is not my friend!

The fact of the matter is most men do not care if a woman is "fat" or not. Literally every wedding I've personally been to in the past 10 years, the woman was plus sized. I think that makes WOMEN feel some type of way, regardless of whether it's about health or not. We've certainly seen men online being very vocal about not liking big girls, but out here in the real world, they are getting wifed up.

As a chubby chub chub myself, the first denial we need to get over is the denial of our calorie intake.
The reason we have excess fat deposits is because we take in more calories than we consume. Such are the facts. We are overweight because we eat more than our metabolism can burn. Nobody that doesn't eat more than their metabolism can burn will gain fat. (disclaimer, I dont actually know if there are rare diseases where the body generates fat deposits from nothing, but it is not common)
Personally I spent many years telling myself that I didnt eat that much different from normal weight people. But it is a lie. Sure our metabolisms are all different, and some people burn calories faster and easier than others. But most to all normal weighted people do pay attention to their weight, and scale their calorie intake accordingly. Or else they too would gain weight. And sure we can say metabolism just isnt fair, but it is biology, and tons of other health factors are equally "unfair". Cancer is genetics, aging is genetics, rheumatism is genetics. Which just means if you have genetics that increase your risk, you can mitigate by living accordingly.
But there are some truth to "you cant get fat from only eating kale" regardless if anyone can actually withstand only eating kale. That is where mental factors (which can also be highly "unfair") comes into play. And yes, we are wired differently; some have highly addictive personalities and will get addicted to stimuli like sugar, fats and calories, and some people have less addictive personalities, and can smoke for 15 years and quit from one day to the other.
But to say that overweight is not rooted in calorie intake is to lie to oneself, and that is a disservice really. How ever comforting it might be.
