First time I went to Cuba in 1999 we visited my dad's family. I met a little third cousin of mine on their farm who was so proud to show me his toys. He made his own "farm" using bottles and cans as his animals. Two years later we visited again and I made sure to bring him a huge tub of 100 farm animals from Toys r Us. I'll never forget the look on his face when he opened it up. It's sad that Cuban kids have to grow up with so little but heart warming that they can still find joy without all the stuff we take for granted.

      Good Day
There shouldn’t even be non-organic foods of any kind. Monsanto and government started making all these GMO foods that are way less nutritious than organic foods. The seeds of GMO plants can’t even reproduce on their own. And the animals fed GMO products are also not as nutritious as animals that are fed regular organic foods. But unfortunately all this is way more expensive thanks to our government.
If the government could it would outlaw all organic farms. Bill Gates has been buying them up a lot especially in Oregon because they want to pass a bill and 2022 to that outlaws raising animals for food. Bill Gates wants to pass his lab grown meat.

When my parents were getting their citizenship here in Miami, there was an interesting moment. During the ceremony, the amount of people getting their citizenship from each country was called out, for example, from Argentina: 3, from Brazil: 2. It was small numbers from every country. They saved Cuba for last, and when they announced the number, I think it was something like 93 people. I was still a kid in middle school then and just found it funny, but these videos have really added a lot of depth to that memory for me.
My parents immigrated from Colombia, and they always talk about how safe things feel here, and how much opportunity there is. This city is a big melting pot of different people, so I didnt necessarily grow up in an enclave of white or hispanic people, but most of the people who I grew up with were immigrants or the children of immigrants, and whether they were black, asian, hispanic, or white, they had something to praise this country for that wasnt available to them where they came from.
There's a lot of anti-capitalist sentiment in the school system here, but thankfully its hard for the people here to buy into it, given the love the locals have for this country. You'll hear a lot of cynics in America say that the American dream is dead, but it is very much alive in Miami. For a lot of the people that come here, the dream is just being able to work a decent job for a decent income and have the things we take for granted here. For the children of these immigrants, who get to hear what other places in the world are like and know then to do the hard work, opportunity is abundant

      @FacelessQueenie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

Communism and capitalism are the extreme ends, so it baffles me the sort of all or nothing attitude a lot of people watching these videos have. Communism doesn't work, but neither does total capitalism the way we know it today. There is no true communism or capitalist country. I just think about the narrative that this is sending which paints this picture of specifically America as being a place with abundance for all, yet many Americans can't afford food or adequate housing and there are tons of social issues. It's interesting to see the difference between Cuba and America because it IS stark, but throughout I just thought about any poor Americans watching this and what they'd be thinking.
I'm from the UK which I feel has that in-between of socialism and capitalism which is why I mentioned the spectrum at the start, it's not black and white, I mean even when I went to a Publix for the first time in Orlando I thought it was nuts how much cereal there was 😂

@@FacelessQueenie Total capitalism? Where do you live? Here in the states we have a lot of social programs (too many in my opinion). Look it up wellfare queens who are
married to the state and get children only because of the benefits it gets them. How i know? Because they treat their children real bad. If you take away any incentive to work
because the state pays you for your "fatherless" children that is what you get.

The American dream is very much alive where I live also. I work in education and most of my students are either immigrants or children of immigrants and they are a joy to teach. They don't take their education for granted and they apply themselves above and beyond what is necessary. Not only do they do better academically but their behavior and level of respect is better. I hate to say it but they are doing much better than the other students who only know America.

@@FacelessQueenie whether poverty exists in a country is a much more nuanced issue than how inclined citizens are towards socialism. You mention that the UK is a nice in between of capitalism and socialism, but there is still a lot of poverty there, a google search would tell me that the poverty rate is somewhere between 10-35% depending on the ethnic or age group (from skimming several different sites), which is comparable to the US and much of the first world as well.
However nuanced that issue is though, I can confidently say that what has plagued both systems and caused them to not work ideally is corruption, even more so corruption of the people in power. Socialism is a system where property is held publically and distributed to those who need it, but really by publically we mean by a centralized group, the state, and whether it gets distributed to those who need it is reliant on them, how corrupt or ignorant of the plight of their countrymen they are.
When people leave an especially oppressive state and come here, and they are hostile against socialism, it is really the corruption of those in charge that they are hostile against. But we know that there is corruption in capitalism as well. It is just that money rules in capitalism, and power exchanges hands more freely. What is valued in capitalism isnt who in power do you know and which of their needs can you meet, in capitalism what is valued is what does the public want and can you provide it to them. People who provide goods and services to meet their countrymen's needs in America can become wealthy, beyond just meeting their basic needs.
A lot of wrong still occurs here, but the ideal of the individual having the ability to rise to a position where they can impose not letting themselves be oppressed is held in America. As part of the first world, America *does* have a lot of abundance, but immigrants dont come here expecting to be sheltered and carried into a comfortable life. The American dream is working hard and making sacrifices for what you want, but then actually being able to get it, especially without it being stolen away, which is rare around much of the world.
There is always going to be poverty here, just like there is always going to be poverty in other countries. But there is hope in the US at least to always be able to improve your life, without having to convince someone in power to improve it for you.
And as someone mentioned above, the US does have a lot of social programs. It also offers an incredible amount of apprenticeship programs, many free and even with room and board, but they seem to be unheard of by the people seeking jobs in retail or customer service. The trades are stigmatized and seem to not be promoted, but thats one way up. There are even opportunities in apprenticeships for medical care, for computer programming, for translation and accounting. Another opportunity is the military, with the amount of benefits they offer with room and board, and the free college education and work experience, well that must be a big help to some. Many of the roles they offer are far from infantry as well. There are more ways out as well, it just takes hard work and sacrifice, something immigrants come here expecting to face

You cant be this brainwashed can you? The US sanctions communist countries and starts wars with them. You honestly think communism is so evil but the for profit US Government murders commies out of the goodness of their heart? They dont want you to see that making life better for ALL people not just the lucky and able bodied, is not just morally sound but fiscally sound too. Capitalism can't survive without using socialist policies. Look at what inevitably happens when the market crashes, when for profit companies use lobbyists to influence and change laws so that they can create monopolies. This system is extremely socialist... for the wealthy. When they burn the market for their own personal gain, the government steps in and prints them free money because the capitalist system would die without leaning on those socialist policies. Look at how large franchises pay their laborers as little as possible and the government has to step in and provide foodstamps so you dont starve and continue to generate wealth for those who have so much more than you. Look at how this system does nothing for those who literally can not work, and that socialist policies like SSI are the only thing keeping them alive. We as humans have always relied on eachother to survive. We specialize in our skills and lean on eachother when we need. Dont let the propaganda of the greedy and selfish turn you against your fellow human being. We ALL have a right to live. We are all created equal with inalienable rights to life and liberty. To me that doesnt mean only the lucky ones should be given those rights. None of us are free until everyone is. ❤

      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulgencio_Batista
When Castro came to Cuba to topple the dictatorship, he came with 80 men and hid in the mountains. How, if not by overwhelming popular support, do you think he managed to lead a successful revolution?
If you were Cuban yourself back then you would have obviously sided with the communist, just like the cubans actually did.
Now compare Cuba, economically bullied by the USA for decades, to Haiti and Puerto Rico for instance, which have a capitalist economy and are in the same geographical area, it ain't much better.

I was 10 when I left Cuba. I saw a modern beautiful country destroyed. My family was composed of doctors, pharmacists, teachers, fashion designers, singers, dancers, nurses. They all disappeared now just the memories remain.
I remember the joy of Christmas with family and lots of toys. Then everything disappeared the Christmas kiosks in the streets that sold regular toys became ration Chinese toys. I remember leaving Cuba with a blue eye baby doll and a China doll. I still have the China doll. The communist soldiers trying to rip off the doll’s heads off as I was checked by soldiers as I left the island with my parents.
Now my living room is full of toys for my grandchildren. It’s very sad to see that young man not be able to buy an $8.00 dollar doll for his daughter. It’s hard to see a beautiful country, life destroyed by a government that promised equality and just created destruction and control.

@@TheMajorActual Non sequitur but anyway, most of the people working in computer parts manufacturing do what's called "996", from 9am to 9pm, 6 days per week, which translates to 72 hours a week. The workers get a relatively high salary from this, they often send a good amount of it to their families in the rural areas where their might still be some poverty/scarcity. They are free to go to some other company or return to their home town, but they generally do it anyway because they want to live in the city and help their families.
The issues caused by this schedule are too many and too important though, and people in China have started to compile the companies that push for it to encourage their boycott, and the government and state affiliated media have echoed their voices, criticizing it too :

We live in a very family-oriented part of the country though. But this video makes me reflect on the many times I've walked into my husband's store and taken everything for granted, being bored with the selection of food and not wanting to buy anything because some things weren't up to my immediate needs for convenience and satisfaction. Seeing the dichotomy of the two systems from a real life perspective would certainly instill some appreciation for everything that we are so lucky to have as Americans.

The amazing part is, this isnt even the full extent of Capitalism. C. What happens when a private company poisons the river that a town drinks out of? Should there be no consequences?
But sure, a society doesn't need rules or anybody to enforce them lol. That's clearly worked so well in places without government. It didn't just end up turning into warlords vs warlords or anything/s.

    • @z0h33y

@@KM-jf6bn A. Businesses only grow powerful when they offer a product or service that enriches the lives of others. I don't understand how on one hand we can say that whatever 2 consenting adults do in the privacy of their room is fine as long as no ones being forced to, but then say that a contract between an employer and employee has to be mitigated and regulated by a third party helicopter mommy government.
      B. People playing sports on a field isn't exactly the same as running a business. But at the same time, if you sign up to play Football, you go into it knowing that you made the choice and you may get hurt, but the payoff is worth it.
      C. Of course there should be consequences for businesses that objectively destroy the environment and are causing harm. Like theres a difference between telling me who i can hire and how much i can pay them, versus dumping poisonous chemicals into a town's water supply.
      D. A society does need rules. But what im getting at is that the government serves a very specific purpose: The courts, the police, the military. There shouldn't be a government politician telling me whats safe to eat, or how many hours i can work, or who i can marry, etc.

I saw my first video yesterday. It was the video spent at Costco. And I found the timing of that video to be quite serendipitous. Yesterday was our Independence Day. And here I am watching a video, through the perspective of a guest who only lives 90 miles away and having such intense feelings. Not for myself, but for him. I was born in the states, I grew up here. My family did face struggles.Money was tight, gifts were small. But nothing even close to what is happening down there. To be overwhelmed by the stuff that I see every time I go to the store is just something I cannot fully process. We take advantage of these things. We use the click list service on a regular basis, and if they don't have an item we asked for, they give us a substitution. Waiting 3 and 4 hours to get 1..ONE ITEM!?! A vast majority of Americans couldn't handle that. Most people wont wait 10 minutes, let alone hours on end.
I really hope that this becomes the new normal for Yoel, and his family. The moment he speaks about his Daughter really hits me deep. As a father of 2, I connect with that on a very emotional level. I hope he knows that he is a good father. I wish you all well. I wish to everyone who has family still in Cuba, can one day free themselves of that awful tyranny. And my final wish is to my fellow Americans. Look at this. Watch this. Listen to this! See the possibilities and gifts we have already sitting in front of us. Recognize that socialism will not work. Be grateful for waking up in a country every single day that we can just head to our local wal-mart, target, whichever store you choose and buy something. If you thought the last 18 months were hard, try a lifetime of it.

@3:27 When he talks about his daughter while looking at the cake is heartbreaking. I hate it when I hear about little kids who aren't able to do anything for their birthday or Christmas because of financial and/or family circumstance. Sadly, after teaching at an elementary school in a low income area of a large city for 5 years I can tell you it happens far, far too often in the US as well. I'll never forget the week after Thanksgiving my first year. I asked the class how their Thanksgiving my was. That was a big mistake. About half of the kids didn't have what you'd consider a "normal" Thanksgiving. It really got to me and still about 12 years later I still think of that every Thanksgiving. It make me sad and utterly grateful at the same time. I wish Yoel could get that cake and all these toys for his little girl!
