Appreciate the take on suspension and numb hands. I’ve been getting that now in my late 30s for the first time. I’m guessing it’s due to snowmobiles and chainsaws. Is there a big difference in antivibe between an ms460 and the 500? I’ve been eying the 500 and if it’ll help my hand health than it’s worth the cost.
HAVS(Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome) isn’t anything to ignore or push through. It is not necessarily an age thing other than it can take years to develop. My nerve OT and surgeon treat people in their 20’s and I was in my teens when my started showing up. Proper PPE made a huge difference along with the stretches and exercises. I’ve also been able to reverse symptoms with an anti inflammatory diet.
Yea I think it’s a good thing to be mindful of not to ignore that also When I was first starting out running equipment the old guys would tell me not to jump off the equiptment and dozer tracks onto the ground they said it will ter your knees up so I figured “you know these old guys prolly know best”and I ended up listening to them boy am I glad I did
@ Same thing here. I’m so glad I listened to that lesson. One of the guys who taught me about running equipment was only in his early thirties and had a hard time climbing in and out of the cab. He would jump out of the cab all the time for his early teen years. The guy was an athlete too. Related health and injury issues might make a good topic for future videos.
What suspension are you running? The upgraded fellers suspension or you still got factory ones. Im looking at changing mine as i feel the factory ones are too soft when dogging in with long bars.
Awesome, I've been looking at your 500i kit? Time to bite the bullet and upgrade the suspension. I been worried that the upgrade would lose the vibration protection. But this video give me the confidence it's the right move.
Our oaks in the south are nowhere near that size, but my favorite limber is an ms400c, very light and still strong, good video Gordy, thanks for sharing.
I love it. But at the same time it makes me wonder how much farther could my saw go. My 400 is a lot zippier and when it hits the rev limiter you can hear just how much more that saw could very easily go.
I loved watching this. Nothing better than gypo logging!!!! Thanks for sharing with us. Also I made this months cover on loggers world. Crazy a little guy like me gets recognized.
@westcoastsaw1368 Thanks for the reply! The fuel looked like VP 50:1 mix to me, because of the blue color and bar oil looked the same as you can get from Madsons. Thanks again for the reply! Keep the great videos coming! I will be ordering more from you guys soon.
Donnys, big timberjack will yard big logs. :) Don't ya love spruce limbs:/ (sarcasm) harder then hell right at the base. As usual say hi to donny for me.
Your 500 is good when doged in but limbing its 4 stroking bad! We've been having Aaron Lynch port our 500s and his recipe gets rid of all that 4 stroke. That was a bit of a taxing job as spruce has always got so many limbs! Good stuff Gordy thanks for sharing!
Ever use a 550xp or 562xp to limb or do you pretty much stick to 70cc plus saws ? Our bark in Michigan is quite different but I love the 550 to limb. Also there is no way you are almost 50!!
Yes the 70cc and up is what we run mainly to be able to pull a 32” and up bar so we can stand up save the back And yes I will be 49 in march born in 76
Hey Gordie, Great series with the spruce monsters. Question.....What product comes from these incredibly knotty lengths, when the mill is done with them? Thanks, Bryan from Nova Scotia
Limbing a tree laying on the ground is so freakn dangerous, people need to really be careful and watch for the tension and compression on the limb when they are cutting it and as you could see Gordy was being very careful making several cuts to try and release some of that built up pressure, nicely done Gordy!
@@westcoastsaw1368 I first learned felling in 1971 at 8yrs old, but didn't get to use a chain saw until I was 10 and those first 2 years I learned to fell trees with a chopping axe and you want to talk about intense, lol. Gordy there are lots of people on here doing tree felling, but in my humble opinion none of them do it to the same degree of proper technique/etiquette as you do. I wish I had an opportunity to have done what you are doing, so thank you young man for sharing all these educational videos with all of us!
I know I'm showing my ignorance but does each ring represent 1 year? Seams like I heard that when I was a youth, but I've never really given too much thought to that
Yes each growth ring represents one year, the outer layer under the bark is what grows and adds to the tree each season. When you see big spaces in the rings it means that tree had some really good growing conditions ie lots of rain and sunshine at just the right time, when the rings are real close and tight means it was through some very dry years. That's how they know when we had bad droughts in the past by studying old trees, pretty interesting how these things can be figured out from looking at a trees lifetime.
😊😊 IVE heard of big trees 🌳 😊 like that be 4 the size of a tractor trailer tire the biggest buggy skidder wouldn't pull the trees either until the trees where cut in half and that wasn't that far away from here 😮😮 and back in the day 😳 😮 there was only the cable skidders U had 2 hook every tree by hand buck cut limbs off also and U had 2 cut all of it by hand ✋️ 😮 W,a chainsaw everyday 😉 😮 OMG 11 1O 2O24
I use to ms 880 with a 3 foot bar on it all day long and at night my arms would just get numb and falling asleep and feeling like they weren’t even part of my body I use to cut a lot of oaks and eculyptus trees a lot of them up rooted themselves in rain storms and a lot of them I just dropped and had to be removed they were like from 50 inches to 60 inches in diameter at the base and 200 feet tall and some times when I had room to drop those trees that were that tall I would throw my climbing up in them and I would tye my climbing rope to my Ford F-250 power stroke and I would pull them down with my ford250 powerstroke and then I would cut them up
I could definitely see how the hard mount would be harder on your hands. I don't even think it would matter about age. Vibration is just hard on the muscles!
@@westcoastsaw1368 65 my days are now mostly 1 1/2 gallon days on a good day and I might hit 2 gallons on a great day which are few, wife for some odd reason keeps telling me I am not as young as I used to be. 🤨🤔🤪

Thanks for the video Gordy!

You need to make a spring suspension kit for the 661s. That would be awesome!
We do have a kit for the 661 👍it’s super simple makes it feel not so sloppy but still lets the anti-vibe work like it should
@@westcoastsaw1368 will it fit the 660 ?
Do you have your compression release plugged? If so what do you get to plug it Gordy?
All the saws I’ve seen have had it plugged with a short bolt of the same thread pattern as that insert
Yes, I do. You can get them on eBay.
How much you get for a big tree like that? All processed and hauled to the mill?
i was wondering how yall got the logs out. imrpessive

Where was this located, western Oregon or Washington? FYI love these logging videos!
Western Washington
That spruce seems very slow to cot. Either that or it’s as hard as a rock. Did it do any damage to your chain?
It’s hard and there’s a lot of tension on those limbs so I was taking my time because they can spring back and hit you or pinch. The bar really bad.
