Having grown up around farmers, lumberjacks and fishermen I can tell you the weld repair at the end is no different than they do it here in America. You work with what you’ve got and what you’ve got is what you can afford.

Granted, "probably not for very long", considering that for them the "carrying capacity of a truck" is about a pound less than "breaking point of an axle" (under load) is, but "precisamente, amigo" - _you work with what you got_ (and "can't make silk purse out of sow's ear").
I admire these people for the work they are doing with the few means available. on the other hand there is the usual air pollution and the lack of protection. I believe that the life expectancy of these people is very short.

You can weld cast iron… there is just a very detailed preheat and post heating regimen to adhere to. Are they following one, no. Do they have better means, no. Will this last, I highly doubt it. With their process the amount of porosity would be atrocious. To think that vehicle is going to be back on the road with that time-bomb lurking.

Copper is in Super High demand in First world nations, so they would likely sell it to copper exporters to go to Europe or North/South America. Used so much that it's hard to list the number of uses, least of all it is a major component of Brass/Bronze. High pressure fittings and plumbing fittings as well as electric wire are just a few of the uses for it, not including thousands of electronic uses. It is the Number one metal used for electrical transfer/wiring.
